i think my favorite thing in star trek might be when they want to indicate that something is even further in the future than usual so they will show you some starfleet ferengi characters to let you know that things really have changed. maybe a Klingon or something too if they’re feeling frisky. but you really know it’s the future if you see a ferengi someplace you wouldn’t usually

Kind of funny how at the end of the world when Morgoth breaks out of the Void, this final epic battle is prophesied to take place on the plains of Valinor - somewhere that’s.. no longer really part of the world. I’d think Valinor would get pulled back out of its realm of hidden things during the breaking of the world, but it’s interesting that the reshaping/unflattening post-Númenor is said to be sort of a foretaste of the end times, while its impact is also (in my view) to make it less clear how the end of the world will play out, now that ties are severed (for most intents and purposes, limited unidirectional sailing aside) between Aman and the rest of Arda. Maybe the original prophecy still holds, it just wasn’t able to account for such disruption to the whole geographic relation of Middle-earth and Aman (and the Void too, which itself is presumably only accessible from Valinor’s Door of Night), but it would be interesting if the world-rounding intervention by Ilúvatar - by definition drastic and unexpected - actually interfered with the fulfillment of Mandos’s prophecy or altered the world’s fated end

Unlikely but here’s a concept: the Final Battle only applies now to Aman, and destroys it, removing it and the elves and the Valar fully from the world. The earth just keeps on spinning and no one notices a thing

i think the funniest interaction i had when explaining the implications of mw’s stuff being in the beartaur cave as far back as s1 and beartaur just not giving a shit bc that’s his roommate is when i was like “Her boots are in the Beartaur cave in episode 5, and the Beartaur comments on it with 0 malice. do you understand the implications of this” and my friend who is oh so sweet yet was so tired bc it was 6 am where they lived was like “she has shoes :0” and it took half of my energy to not crack up right then and there

people being mad that there's josie vs lizzie stuff going around again? maybe if legacies had josie face any consequences for the shit she do we wouldn't have to keep having this debate

I actually do think it can get annoying. I got a lot of asks throughout the season complaining about stuff with Josie I didn’t think was that deep, because she honestly wasn’t getting on my nerves too much. She still isn’t! Last episode just reminded of the same pattern that’s been going on since S1, and I’m sure it did the same for others, so people vented? The problem is many Josie stans are incredibly sensitive and have a worse victim complex than that girl and genuinely don’t see an imbalance in who has to take accountability writing-wise, so they start reacting like people are saying they want Josie’s head chopped off. And then Lizzie stans start rehashing stuff that happened all the way back in S1 to prove a point over and over, and it just goes in circles.

But I will say, yeah, it’s incredibly unfair to sit and watch a show where one of the characters actually gets dramatic heaps of blame, and the other... doesn’t once you hop off the internet, and pretend the latter is the same as the former. If you don’t want to see people say sometimes Josie is Wrong Too, just exit out of whatever social media app you’re on and go rewatch Legacies the television show!

They also have this annoying habit of only addressing half of the picture to make her look better. On Twitter they’re going on and on about how reading your sibling’s diary isn’t that big of a deal, which I’d agree with, except... she didn’t just read it, she ran around school telling everybody else about it (and since I saw somebody say it, no, she didn’t tell one trusted person, Hope literally said she told the witches - stop rewriting canon.)

They used to always say “uh, she was a kid when she lied about Hope spreading rumors about Lizzie’s mental illness” - erasing the fact that she never fessed up when she was older until things got so bad between Hope and Lizzie that the truth popped out and she was forced to. And even then, she literally did not apologize, she blamed Lizzie for it. On the show. On screen. And her stans ate that up! 😭

And I have seen people be incredibly dramatic about Josie! Anybody who thinks she’s even top ten in morally bereft TVDU characters has lost the plot, I don’t align with those people either. But as everybody keeps saying over and over, you can’t keep bitching every time people get annoyed about “little” things Josie does, when that’s exactly what Josie has canonically done with Lizzie. Do you think Lizzie stans enjoyed watching her say she doesn’t care about anybody but herself because Lizzie didn’t tell her about a letter she voluntarily chose not to read? Or that she deserves to experience breakdowns? But Lizzie stans vent and clock some bullshit on the show that Josie will never face consequences for anyway and suddenly it’s the end of the world. Give me a break.

That song of Luisa is still on my mind, even though I can’t relate to some of it bc I’m an only child, but people don’t realize how annoying it is when they scoff at you for saying that. “Your life is so easy. You’re so lucky.” Like only other only kids get this /particular/ immense amount of pressure put on you at all times to be as perfect as can be and to live out every family expectation that they want bc you’re the only one they have who can. Plus you’re constantly expected to take care of any ailing family members, to plan every aspect of what’s going to happen to your parents when they’re older, to put on a perfect facade of having shit together, take on all the generational trauma alone, etc. Ppl act like only kids are the spoiled younger kids of the family when all signs point to it being like you’re the oldest, which in some ways is easier in that sense bc you /don’t/ have to take care of younger siblings. But also if you ever fuck up all of it lies solely on you alone. There aren’t second chance roles for your parents to fulfill with more children so if you mess up you’re a complete disappointment life-ruiner. It also wasn’t like my parents just decided on one kid. My mom couldn’t, she had to have her uterus removed bc I completely flipped it when I was born. So in addition to being an only child it was like being a miracle child as well bc apparently we almost both died in childbirth. I used to just pray that my mom would magically be able to have more kids so I wasn’t alone anymore and didn’t have as big a burden (there was a time I was obsessed w it, and begged my parents to just adopt, anything). I wasn’t given choices about ANYTHING I wanted to do growing up bc I was on my parents predetermined plan for my life and when I finally DID break free of it it was a nightmare that almost killed me (literally I think I learned how much emotional pain will physically rip you apart). Getting out of that kind of cycle was intensely hard and ofc there are parts of it that always linger about but it is possible to break free. I just remember the hopelessness of it all and like for me personally I can’t give up all of those roles but I got it a little better at the least, perhaps 60-70% better than it was in the past.
