Q’ruhka could tell he was doing all he could to not even glance at the young Miqo’te, because every time the man’s gaze wandered even close to him his expression turned even more sour and snapped away. Was he that difficult to look at? Sure he was still rail thin and bore the bruises of his narrow escape from slavers, but at least he had a god damn shirt on. He couldn’t have said that a few days ago.

“I-I know that but-” Salt, to her credit, at least tried to argue for him. It had been his curiosity for her books rather than her ears that had won her over barely a week prior, and his apparently surprising ability to read and, what in his mind was simply parroting the information back.

“The boy is completely uneducated, I’m sure he can barely read or write,” Another sneer, or maybe that was the scholar’s default expression, it seemed so deeply etched in his face.

“No, not at all! He’s been remarkably-” And so they argued more, under the heat of the Thanalan sun that Ruhka so desperately wanted to get away from. Ul’dah was still on the horizon behind them, looming like a gilded springtrap, ready to swallow him whole again if he gave it even half a chance.

All he wanted was to get away, farther, farther, maybe he could simply ask to go to Gridania with them, Miss Salt had said that was the next major stop on their pilgrimage to gather more books and scholars left behind from Sharlayan’s abandonment of Eorzea a decade ago. Gridania would be enough, he heard the botanist’s guild was always accepting, it would be something steady, and hopefully cooler being well out of the desert. How could he justify asking for more? He wasn’t worth the trouble.

“No I’m telling you, Bartholomew, you daft git, he’s showing aptitude I’ve not seen in even your ‘best and brightest’. Gil given by parents does not equate to intelligence!” Salt snapped back, ah, Ruhka had tuned out for a moment in his thoughts, apparently the ‘discussion’ wasn’t going well.

“And you think some feral kitten would do better? Look at him, he’s more liable to run off at the sight of some pretty tail with delusions of being a Nuhn than stay with us to even the next town!”

Oh. Oh fuck this guy, actually.

“I wouldn’t wanna study under you anyways, yer grasp on the theological and social issues around primal summoning is shaky at best, considering yeh don’t even take into account the spoken tribes reasons for resorting to such measures. Also you’re one to talk considering my handwriting is cleaner than yours, and in the one missive I saw of yers, you spelled ‘La Noscea’ wrong, three differnt times, three differnt ways.” The tiny Miqo’te hissed back, before Salt could get a word in edgewise, just a few summers into his teens (he assumed) and already he’s lost his last fuck, squaring up against a Master Sharlayan Scholar.

The camp was dead silent for a few moments that felt far longer, and he could feel a dozen pairs of eyes on him. Well, perhaps he’d burned this opportunity to the ground, he could find another way to Gridania, or Limsa. But the tension broke like glass when he realized he could hear someone giggling in the back, and another, then the camp seemed to settle back into ease, leaving said Master Scholar to glance around in ill concealed embarrassment.

“F-fine! Ms. Myzarian, the boy is your problem if you care for him so blindly! He’ll be a ward of the Library, and his boarding will come out of your pay!”

Q’ruhka blinked. He glanced up at the Viera, who only blinked in mirrored surprise back. That... worked? Salt shook off the shock first, drawing herself up and taking Ruhka by the shoulders just to turn him around and push him towards a nearby merchant. “Let’s get you some proper clothes, dear!”

Sea travel, as it turned out, wasn’t all that bad. It’d been some time since he’d been on such a sizable ship for such an extended period, but for all of Salt’s wailing about getting sea sick, he didn’t seem to. It was rather pleasant, all told, perhaps in another life...

“Gods save me, I’d forgotten how sick I got last time,” The Viera grumbled and slid up next to the Miqo’te on the ship’s railing, Limsa only just in sight now. It’d been years since he’d last seen Eorzea, enough that it felt like a different age altogether. Studying under the Sharlayan library hadn’t been easy, but between the two of them, he and Salt, they’d made it through unscathed. Salt now the Master Librarian, and he her assistant and protege, they’d petitioned for funds for another pilgrimage to gather new books and papers waiting for them in the wider world. An adventure, he liked to think of it. Romantic, perhaps, but after an age of burying his nose in books he’d like to see to his own story.

“The gods cannot save you now,” He chuckled back, grabbing the bottle of wine out of her hand and taking a sizable gulp for himself. “Nor wine, though I shall thank you for the drink!”

“You brat! I should drop you off on the shore and leave you there!” He chimed back, and despite the green undertone of her charcoal skin, it was said with a grin and a giggle. Things were comfortable, at ease.

“You’d be lost without me, Bunny, we both know it!” He grinned back, “Let’s have our grand adventure, hmm? Travel the star and collect our riches, it’s all ours for the taking!”

Obviously only tangentially related to you, but do you know why are medications so expensive in the US? My friend said she was holding off on getting asthma medication and when I asked her why, she said it costs $50 with insurance? I take the same one and it costs the equivalent of $2 without insurance. Same thing when I suggested she take mefenamic acid for her period pain; it doesnt exist over the counter there. How?

I’m not an expert in the economics of pharmaceutical research, so my answer will be an incomplete one, but I expect that collective medblr can add some knowledge. It’s a very complex, emotive problem that has far-reaching consequences for all of us, wherever we work.

In order to bring a drug into being, a drug has to be developed through research. Though universities and hospitals and government agencies play a significant and often ignored role in research, much of that burden falls to the large pharmaceutical companies who have the money to sink into research; it’s not a venture that many can afford, and if a drug isn’t effective or ends up having bad effects, companies can even go bankrupt. As a result, when a medication comes out, it is usually under patent for a set period. This means that nobody else can make that medication without the permission of the company who holds the rights over that medication. That monopoly in turn means that the company can decide a price for that medication knowing that they are the only ones making it. Once the patent ends, any company can make that drug, and prices will drop, because competing labs will sell the product for a much lower price. The prices often start considerably higher than it costs to make the medicine; that’s true of every product we buy to varying degrees. In theory, the prices of medicines are meant to reflect the money that has been put into their research; the company only has a set time to recoup the costs and make a profit, because when the patent ends, they won’t be able to command anywhere near that price for the product. That’s how it’s supposed to work, in theory. However, whether the prices are ‘fair’, or whether they are inflated higher than they need to be, in order to generate profit, is a matter of fierce debate. Medication prices vary considerably across the world; and sometimes for good reason arguably companies have to adjust prices to local markets. For example, there’s no way the average person in India making $616 in US money would be able to afford the same prices as US patients; not when the difference in what money is made is very considerable. I’ve seen posts from the US angry that they are being charged more for a medication than someone in a much poorer country, who feel like they are ‘subsidising’ others, but in eality that product is still very expensive in that country, relative to people’s wages over there. It’s much more complex than that. That’s why there have been real battles between Western pharm companies and local companies in poor countries who have been making patented medication at a cheaper price (despite the legal and IP implications), serving populations who could never afford the ‘lower’ prices that Western countries set for their market.

Where it becomes difficult is the ethics of pricing. How much is a fair price to charge? Companies need to pay their employees, and modern capitalism relies on profit, but how much profit is acceptable? What exactly is a fair margin on medications, when you want to feed enough money back into the company to create more research, but don’t want to drive costs out of the reach of the people who need it?

I think insurance companies themselves have to shoulder significant responsibility in this context. They choose what they pay out for, and if they choose to make patients shoulder the majority of the cost of an expensive drug, then they aren’t really fulfilling the role of insurance. Which is, in its simplest form, ‘I pay a little bit regularly so that when I have a big cost, I don’t need to shoulder that all in one sitting’.  Working in a system where insurance is entirely unneccessary, I am not comfortable with the role insurance companies play in healthcare across much of the world, nor of what I hear about how it works in the US in general. It often makes me deeply, deeply uncomfortable, and I extend my sympathies to the people who have to deal with these companies as healthcare providers and advocates of patient care, and for patients themselves who find themselves at the mercy of them. I don’t personally believe healthcare insurance companies should be an integral part of healthcare,, in part because that’s how it works here.  I believe that it would genuinely save patients and the state so much money and stress if more countries took on a model similar to the NHS or some of the other European countries. Under the US system, the government (nad therefore people, through taxes) already pay more than we do in the UK per head, and then also, people pay a lot for insurance on top. Which really doesn’t sound like a fair deal to me.

In the UK, our formulary, the BNF tells us how much something costs to prescribe; because the NHS picks up the majority of the cost. So we know when a drug is no longer under patent, and what we prescribe as first line can change when this happens. We’re encouraged to evaluate effeciveness and price, and high prices can have an effect on official guidelines on an NHS-wide scale. We don’t pay more than the price of a prescription per month, and if you are on benefits, a child or have particular health conditions, then you pay nothing for your prescriptions. Even though prescriptions here are under £10, and they can be monthly, that can still be a challenge for people who are struggling, so I can’t even begin to imagine dealing with the kinds of prices that people deal with in the US. For the most part, the price of a medication here isn’t passed onto patients directly; the problem arises only if NICE deem a medication too expensive compared to its effectiveness and decide that it can’t be used. And the way that treatments here are not always rationed eqally between differnt areas, arising to what people describe as ‘postcode lotteries’ can cause problems of its own. So I won’t pretend we have it 100% worked out.

We don’t have mefenamic acid over the counter here, either, actually. The restrictions on what is and isn’t available OTC can be pretty different from country to country! It’s a prescription medication, though not hard to get from the GP. Even here, there’s a difference in the cost of medications based on branding. Branded paracetamol or ibuprofen will set you back a few pounds, whereas generic paracetamol can be as little as 13p per packet of 16 tablets. So it pays for us to ask for medicines by their generic name wherever possible; my favourite pharmacy always offers both (and usually tells me if it’s cheaper to get something on prescription or over the counter, even if I have it prescribed), so it’s always worth having a chat with your pharmacist about what the best options are. Pharmacists are a geninely underappreciated and under-used resource and if I could clone my local pharmacist I’d ship him out to all of you.You don’t mention where you live, or where your friend lives (US and Canada? Or somewhere else entirely), so it’s hard to know why the difference is so big. Perhaps the pricing for patent medication is very different between your countries. Or perhaps the medicines aren’t under patent but the ones on offer are branded, and companies are marking up the prices considerably; without knowing the meds it’s hard to know.

I need serious help.

So hi guys, usually I wouldn’t bring this up but I’m at my wits end and how the last 2 days have happened and treated me I need help. I tried doing my own research but I’m just not getting the answers I need.

So basicly a run down of what’s going on with me as I’ve never talked about it here before.

My names Meghan, I’m currently 15 years of age and have recently come to the conclusion that I am neglected and emotionally abused in ways and held up to double standards. And the simplest way for me to say I noticed is to say that a family member who I see mabey 2-3 times a year told me she saw I’m neglected by my father and semi neglected by my mother.

I don’t think I wanted to belive it for a long time but, here I am. It got really bad 2 days ago and I’m struggling with how I’m going to deal with this situation as I can not stay at home for another 3 years. I need an out once I’m 16.

Here’s what I need to know that I can’t find a definite answer for about the state of New Jersey and it’s legal laws,

1.) If I leave home, (aka) run away can I be forced back? 2.) Is there a legal way to leave home if running is NOT a viable option? 3.) Is there any public licensed places I can go if I run or have a legal way out? 4.) Is there a way to avoid investigation? /note here, I don’t think the level of neglect could hold up in court. Sometimes I don’t think they know there doing it but it is blatantly obvious to a family member, friends and now me./ 5.) What legally makes up a neglect case? What charges can be made / what evidence is needed to make a case? 6.) Will I still be able to attend school if I find a different residence to live in? 7.) Is there any way to be out of here before 16? 8.) Does anyone have an experience with running and being free…?

I’m serious about this and seriously need help. I can’t keep doing this. There not taking my mental health seriously and I needed out of this toxic house 6 years ago when this all started.

Below I’m going to explain and list my experiences with the Neglect and border line emotional abuse, please tell me if this would hold in a court case. And if you’ve made it this far reading I really appreciate it.

1.) At around 11 or 12 I told them I wanted to commit suicide and they told me “It’s a cowardly thing to do.” And the “Cowards way out.” Then then proceeded to ignore the entire situation for months until out of the blue they brought me to a therapist. 2.) At 14 they guilt tripped me into confessing my Sexuality and then told me it was invalid because “God said this…” ect, ect. And then in the following months created a wall in where I was an outsider and sent me to a therapist to discuss my Sexuality. 3.) They always put my younger sibling first in every sense of the word. He plays baseball and he is never allowed to miss a practice, he’s exempt from specific chores because he had “practice”. My father generally takes his side and punishes me when my mother’s not around to defend me. 4.) My father doesn’t give me his attention. He just doesn’t. He worked multiple jobs and went to collage when I was a small kid and now as an almost adult he’s working a teacher’s job and working a differnt side job during the year. In the summer he’s traveling almost every week. My mother is traveling for work almost every day as well and returning late in the evening. This is yearly for her. I’m generally competing for any attention but as mentioned before my brother receives the eyes of them both. A prime example is today. My brother had a tournament almost 2 hours from here so we stayed over night at a hotel yesterday night and then went to the double header the next day, he’d been stung by a wasp the previous day and his leg was swelling. Once we came back from the tournament my mother brought him to urgent care as it was swelling even more. /note, I was the one who did the research to finding out it was a wasp. Everyone thought it was a bee. It wasn’t./ Turns out he needs crutches and is prohibited from walking unless it’s to get to a bathroom. When my father returned from Delaware as he’d been traveling, the first time he addressed my brother was to find out if he was going to travel almost 2 hours to support his team mate’s. Now how this proteins to me is first off, my younger brother is 13 and not great at defending himself so I stepped in. I told him what the doctor had told my mother that she had already told him. That he can’t get up. I was dismissed imeatly until my mother stepped in. 5.) And last but not the least what so ever, is the fact that my friends or a few of there parents are not fans of my own parents. They give the encouragement of “It’s only X amount of years left till you can leave home.” Or “My house is always open.” The problem is I’m too terrified to ask for there help, let alonfle leave and get myself or them in legal trouble.

Here we go

So it’s been quite awhile since i last typed, it feels like that anyway. I am starting work in a few days. I actually feel nervous and I think I’ll always be nervous starting a new job.I was quite surprised that I even got this job honestly.. Not sure if it was luck or if my abilities are more than I think they are. Still feeling weird about the past few months... I can’t believe I’ve been a single woman for about 6 months and counting now. I really didn’t think i’d be single again if I’m being honest. Still weird to think about but past few days i’ve been feeling so blissful honestly.. Not sure if it’s the addition of jogging which means extra endorphins or... but I’ve been feeling good...... it almost feels too good but at the same time i definitely enjoy it.  *Update* I was actually not nervous at all LOL as i thought it would be. I want to document this journey so I need to make sure I am writing on this blog every few days at least. The company culture is definitely different to the one I was in previously. Let’s give it a month to see how it goes. It seems as though they are going through a company restructure by the looks of things and are hiring so many people at once.  It’s actually kind of daunting to see how many people they are hiring during this busy period honestly. They use this app called Dingtalk which has all all kinds of differnt features inside it.. kind of crazy honestly. First day was actually not too bad, content overload which is the usual, second day learnt how to post an ad on ebay and then learnt about the reporting systems used to look at sales and profit margin... which was interesting.. They said that the team might become so big that they need to split up everyone in different places to manage different areas.. I mean being a marketing assistant in an e commerce company isn’t so bad.. since i’ll be learning a lot for sure... Today is sunday and i’ve made it a goal for myself to practice cook to upskill myself there as I realise, I can cook basic stuff but if i really want to learn i need to start doing it myself. As much as i love parents and appreciate them cooking but I’m a very independent person who wants to learn how to do everything by themselves... I’ve grown and have been taught that way...  The pandemic in aus has now gotten a lot worst so we shall see where everything heads this week. Masks are compulsory from wednesday if you need to leave the house for various reasons. Oh.. I had a call with my ex a few days ago.. and well that was quite interesting. It definitely solidified that I am indeed over him.. I thought it would take me much longer if i’m being honest... I didnt think i would be over him during this time. It also made me realise that it was best for both of us to go our separate ways..  It was also interesting to hear what reasons he would tell people why we broke up.. because we all know in an event of a breakup there are always 2 sides to every story.. and his reason was valid- we distanced- mine was definitely too complicated.. So i’m definitely going to be using that reason from now on, so much easier to say that than what i’ve been telling every guy i meet. OOLOL....

I've carried my auto and homeowners insurance with State Farm for about 15 years. I've had multiple auto claims but only one claim on my homeowners poicy. I had my roof replaced about four years ago when most houses in the area were damaged by hail. I've been very happy dealing with state farm but I'm considering a change to travelers. I have a 99' silverado LS 5.3 liter truck. It was hit in the parking lot by some fool at work and now all the body panels on the passenger side are dented.
