No offense to anyone but genuinly the Babby Shuggy moments not only made me ship it but also make me not understand people who feel like their dynamic in canon isn’t „all that interesting“ after they split. „They haven’t seen each other in years. They are different people now. They aren’t thinking and regretting their splitting 24/7!“ okay, but also like…. You don’t want them to have more screentime after the flashback that can just really flesh out how they changed? You don’t think Buggy fucking up upwards coupled with Shanks actual epicness while still being the type of guy to be chill with Buggy and congratulate him for fucking up upwards would be fun? You don’t even want them to have that cool anime shonen type thing where they work together for a while and get into a fight and get a full page panel of them ready to kick ass while standing back to back? You’re fighting too?“ scene from Kingdom Hearts may be overused but it comes to my mind immediatly because sometimes things are overused for a REASON and it fits them in a weird way) Like…. Okay. Your loss. But even beyond shipping I am still a bit flabbergasted at some people being like „Yeah but there’s nothing THERE.“ like, COME ON THERE COULD BE SO MUCH.

Okay, anon, sometimes you need to understand that people have no taste and sometimes we are more intelligent than others and we have to carry the burden of liking and understanding an amazing ship that a lot of people find boring in canon because they don't know how to read the characters. (I'm half joking here, by the way)

Like!!! I started shipping them from the first second they mentioned they were together when they were young. The first flashback of them has the biggest most beautiful "young, teenage best friends to lovers angsty with a lot of pining and not actually unrequited love" I've ever seen. And not only that, even their fucking past is a slow burn. They make you wait to know about the resentment and what happened between them (I've only watched that flashback in wano, if more things are shown in the arc or the manga I don't know about them so don't spoil me in the comments pleaseplease) and it's so so so beautiful. Like- They make me want to lay on the floor all day and cry WHAT'S NOT INTERESTING ABOUT THEIR DYNAMIC????

You know what happens, anon? A lot of people don't like the childhood best friends to lovers trope because they find it boring (for some reason I still don't understand because it's literally my favorite trope) and so they decide to focus on the rivalry and angst that comes later but, y'know, that's when the fanon thing comes up and they focus more on that than on their actual canon past where they're best friends.

And tbh the fact that they reduce their characters only to their relationship instead of to their actual personalities and goals is a shame because Buggy and Shanks have to be two of the most charismatic and interesting anime characters I've ever seen. They're fun and extremely cool to watch even when they aren't thinking about each other 24/7. People, please stop only thinking about ships for a moment?? And if you do, please at least think about how cool it's going to be once they get together again after so much time being apart.

This reminds me a lot of Soukoku and Satosugu ngl. The whole BFFs until there was this big betrayal thing and also the fact that people only like them because of their relationship and are always mad their characters aren't only about the ship.

Honestly, I'm so excited to see more of them and every time they talk/show up on screen I immediately start sobbing. How could people not find them interesting in canon? Buggy is literally one of the best characters wdym?? Also he'd be extremely angry at people reducing him to his relationship with Shanks, dude already is tired of that man let him rest!! Imagine people always talking about you to talk about the ex you still love like damn please he's an awesome character too. PERSONAL FAVORITE?

I'm going to say living la dolce vita (I’ve been saving all my summers for you), mostly because of the amount of work I put into it. Honestly, I never thought I'd finish it! I restarted this story six or seven times — I just could not find the voice. But I am so pleased with the outcome. I think of everything I've written this year, this story really underscored to me that, beyond "flashes of inspiration," writing is a lot of hard work that needs consistent attention and practice!

MOST UNDERAPPRECIATED?

I definitely think this one is it's a dangerous game, my Dr. Jekyll and Hyde AU. I initially started writing this for a Gothic-themed challenge, abandoned for a bit, then finished in a flurry for Haladriel Week. This fic is also a close second for my favorite of the year. I love a Gothic aesthetic and I made sure this story was chock full of it. I was also so purposeful with my writing voice for this story and, to me, it doesn't sound like anything else I've written.

I mean, this is so subjective, but I think the somnophilia scene from it's a dangerous game takes the cake for me! I wrote it in one sitting during my lunch break and my god was it hard to go back to work after this...

An excerpt from the end of the scene: Instead, he adjusts her skirts and melts into the darkness, leaving her as he found her; boneless and wet, flushed with heat and ripe for the taking. 

MOST FUN STORY TO WRITE?

Fun is a strong word, but I was the story I felt was most fulfilling to write was tell me something true (or tell me nothing at all). I already had some of the template letter concepts in my notes from a twitter conversation much earlier in the year, and expanding on them, while building the scenes around them, was a really fun exercise.

HARDEST?

I'm not going to lie, most of them! I used to be the type of writer who would have one flash of inspiration, write it up at a mad sprint, then quit writing until I was struck with another mad idea. I wrote for so many prompt and themed challenges this year that I was required to be more intentional about story building and more consistent with my writing — even when it was hard, even when I hated everything I wrote down. Felt a lot like muscle training at the gym!

BIGGEST SURPRISE?

My output really surprised me!! I complain to my therapist all the time that I'm shit at finishing things, but it's hard to deny the truth when it's staring me in the face: six complete stories, two wips that I will complete! And not just the quantity of my output, but the quality too. I am proud of, and really like, everything I published!

I mean, don't ask me how my social life is going lol, but at least my writing life is going well!

DID YOU TAKE ANY RISKS IN WRITING THIS YEAR?

Dipping my toe into Dark Fics for sure, which is new for me. But beyond that, just engaging with the fandom as a whole! I firmly believe that writing/story-telling is a communal activity and I am beyond grateful to have found that community. It's the first real fan-space I've been a real part of, and it's definitely improved my writing.

MOST UNINTENTIONALLY TELLING STORY?

My life is too boring to translate to fic lol. But I did not have to dig very deep to write the depression beats in living la dolce vita (I’ve been saving all my summers for you). A lot of what Galadriel goes through — the listlessness, the anger, the selfishness — is stuff I also struggle with during depressive episodes.

FAVORITE LINES/SCENES?

I like them all lol but these are a few that I know others, including my fiancé, have really liked:

Literally just having this fandom. Having this community of wonderful, kind, incredibly talented people I can talk to, get advice from, brainstorm with!! I have made so many wonderful friends and I will be forever grateful.

2024 WRITING AMBITIONS

I want to continue developing a consistent writing habit, preferably once a day. Ideally, I'll become to type of girlie who wakes up at 5am and writes for two hours before work, but let's be real, I'm way to sleepy for that!

I also want to focus on two specific things: writing faster and writing less. First, I am, in my eyes, a slow writer — without that "flash of inspiration," it can take me a few days to write a single scene. Mostly because I do not follow my own advice and have to get everything perfect in the first draft. Second — as you can see from this post!!! — I have always been the type of writer who goes "why use one word when you can use ten?" I want to be able to write shorter stories without feeling like I'm compromising on my vision.

We went grocery shopping tonight and I decided to use one of the little electric scooter shopping carts for the first time- which was honestly the whole reason we went tonight instead of early tomorrow like we'd originally planned.

I had so much anxiety about using one for the first time, because I didn't know how to drive them. I didn't want to embarrass myself in front of a bunch of people while learning. I also didn't want to upset people by being in their way, especially if it got busy. So I had him take me closer to closing so I could learn in peace and with a lot less embarrassment.

It was actually a lot easier to learn how to drive them than I thought it'd be. But there were still a lot of mishaps; I ran into a bunch of things because they turn weird. And there were a few times where I made it really mad and it stalled out on me entirely. But I got fairly comfortable with it after a bit ... Still really glad virtually no one but the workers were around to see me make a fool of myself learning, though.

Speaking of: The blatant tone shift in the way I was treated was astounding.

Between headwrapping full coverage (in Mizrahi style 99% of the time- which is fairly identifiably Jewish even around here), and using a cane? Usually I get open hostile looks whenever we're shopping- and the later we shop, the worse it typically gets ... But tonight not a single person looked at me cross once the entire trip. It was the exact opposite, actually ??? Several of the staff even outright went out of their way to see if there was anything we needed that they could get for us.

My Husband and I were flabbergasted by the tone shift the entire way home. Because literally the only difference is ... I was sitting in an electric scooter cart instead of walking myself like normal.

Anyways. Regardless of that weirdness ...

It'll probably be a while yet before I'm comfortable using one of those carts during the day time, instead of at night. But it was actually really nice to have a "pain free" shopping trip for once ... And the only reason that's in quotations is because it technically wasn't without pain because I was already in pain when we left to begin with. I just didn't come home in any more pain than I was already in.

"Mum, please, I don't care about who my soulmate is," you pleaded as your mother dragged you to one of the other dress shops on the square. "Honestly it isn't important to me."

Your mother gasped at the scandalous comment before she pulled you into one of the most expensive shops.

"You could very well meet your soulmate at this party and I will not have you wearing a dress you've worn before. You'll purchase something new and expensive and tonight you will introduce yourself to every available man until you find your Thomas."

Your Thomas. The name had appeared on your wrist when you were younger and your parents had searched high and low throughout London for your Thomas. Of the ones they found, none of them had your name on their wrist. 

Not that you cared. You meant it honestly when you said it wasn't important to you. If you found your soulmate, that was great, but searching for him made it feel cheap and garish. 

And not all soulmates were happy together. Your parents weren't. 

"What if my soulmate isn't here? Where will you drag me next?"

You had been all around London already, as well as a few other places like Paris. You were tired. 

"Your soulmate will be an individual like us so he will be somewhere of worth. We will find him, my dear, don't you worry."

You didn't know how to explain that you very much weren't worried. Not that your mother would have listened to you.

Your parents were going to kill you. Maybe not your father, but your mother would. The moment you had climbed into the car with your cousin, you knew they'd kill you. 

Birmingham wasn't far from where your mother had relocated you in an effort to find your match, but it was far enough. And by the looks of it, it wasn't somewhere your mother expected you to find your soulmate. Not here with the factories and people wearing dirty clothes and where it looked like it rained more than anything. 

You and your cousin slipped through the wet streets together, giggling and enjoying the freedom that this new city provided. 

"This looks promising," she said as she tugged you into a place called The Garrison. 

Inside everything was golden. Your eyes adjusted to the smoky view as you followed Janine to the bar. She leaned across to order the drinks and flirt with the bartender. You preferred to look around at the people. 

Some looked miserable, drowning their sorrows in drink. Some looked joyous and without a care. And then you saw a group in the back. One of which was watching you. 

They looked like a rough crew. And the one watching you was no exception. His eyes looked light, even over this distance. And he didn't seem displeased with what he saw. 

He beckoned you forward with two fingers, a brief flick of his wrist, but you weren't to be called to heel like a dog. If he wanted to talk to you, he was more than welcome to work for it.

A tiny thrill went through you at the look of smugness on his face before you turned away. That was a man who wasn't used to not getting what he wanted and you had told him no.

Janine handed you a drink and then started to guide you to an empty table nearby. You were about to pull out your chair when it was done for you. 

"You're not from around here," a low voice said in your ear as the man from before pulled your chair out.

"Because I didn't come when you beckoned? Is that all it takes to spot an outsider here?"

Up close the man was even more handsome, but also much more dangerous. You could trace the outline of guns under his jacket and his knuckles were bruised. 

"Seeing as how I own this bar, yes," the man said with a smirk as he settled into a chair between you and your flabbergasted cousin. 

She has never seen you behave this way. Granted you had never had the freedom to flirt with a man unless your mother thought he might be your soulmate.

"It is a nice establishment," you said with a look around, feigning interest in something besides the man beside you. 

The man leaned forward onto his forearms. You caught the glimpse of ink on his wrist but couldn't make out much. And it was rude to stare. 

He tilted his head as he looked you over. His own eyes strayed to your wrist but you always wore a cloth bracelet that hid the name there.

"What's your name?"

Your cousin kicked your shin, obviously telling you not to give your name to this man, but you were tired of being told what to do. 

When you said your name, you watched the man's eyes narrow. His eyes darted back down to your wrist and you caught the sight of his fingers twitching towards his own wrist. Your heart started to speed up as you waited for him to introduce himself as well. 

"I'm–"

The doors of the pub were thrown open and a group of men armed with large guns stormed in. They looked around as everyone quieted down to the point where you could have heard a pin drop.

"Where is Tommy Shelby?"

The man beside you squeezed your elbow before he stood up. 

"I'm Thomas Shelby."

You missed the threats that poured from the main thugs mouth as your mind took off in flight. This was Thomas? Your Thomas? Janine kicked you again, but this time it wasn't in warning. She looked terrified.

There was a flurry of movement as the people started to rush from the establishment. Thomas bent down to whisper into your ear.

"Get out of here. Meet me at the Lawndale tonight at eight."

He helped you up and then watched as you and your cousin disappeared out of the pub. 

Even when you looked back, you couldn't see him anymore. 

"This is madness. Tell me that isn't your soulmate in there!"

You looked at your cousin and then at the cloth over your wrist. 

"I think it is."

The Lawndale was a hotel that served dinner. You had convinced Janine to let you go alone, so you stood out front and waited for eight. 

Once the watch you wore went ten past eight, you wondered if maybe something had happened to him. Perhaps he had been hurt or killed. Perhaps you were wrong about him being your soulmate. Perhaps…

"There you are."

You spun around and caught a brilliant sight. He was decked out as if he was taking you to the palace rather than a hotel restaurant. And he looked you over in your blue dress as if you were a queen rather than just a woman who had never really felt at home anywhere. 

"Sorry I'm late. You look resplendent."

You felt heat rise to your cheeks as you let him take your hand. You expected him to lead you inside but instead he used is grip to turn your wrist over. It also forced his own wrist to turn.

Neither of you had the names covered. You stared at your name on his wrist while he looked at yours. 

"I didn't think I'd ever find you," he admitted before he lifted your hand up to kiss the palm. "I stopped looking a long time ago."

You stepped closer to him until you could feel the warmth of his body. 

"I never cared one way or another if I found my soulmate, but I really wanted it to be you. Even as you beckoned me to you, I wanted it to be you."

He smiled as if you had just given him the moon. And once again he did something to surprise you. Instead of leading you in for dinner, he pulled you in for a kiss.

Not that you minded one bit.

Your mother wouldn't be happy with who your soulmate was, but you didn't care. You were mesmerized by this man who wore guns even to dinner with his soulmate. And by the way he couldn't keep his eyes or hands off you, he felt the same way.

You refused to be anything but happy with the turn of events.

Hi. Omg ok, so it's 5AM and (yes I'm still awake idk why either) and I FREAKING LOVE YOUR BLOG! I WENT thought almost the whole thing. I was wondering if I could please request something. If it's possible, could you write a reaction/imagine (however you'd like to categorize that) of Chuuya, Dazai, Kunikida, and Akutagawa when the reader tells them they're pregnant. Much love, Em

I’m going to do headcanons for these, let me know if you want scenarios for any of them!

Chuuya:

Chuuya is absolutely flabbergasted and doesn’t quite know how to react at first. He honestly thinks you’re joking. 

When it hits him that it’s legitimate, he starts panicking a little especially about raising a kid in the mafia. 

He goes to Kouyou for help a lot and gets smacked if he tells her that the baby was unplanned. 

As the pregnancy moves along, Chuuya is essentially next to you 24/7, wanting to shield both you and the baby from the dangers of being associated with the mafia. 

Dazai:

“Oh, how will I ever be able to commit that lovely double suicide with you now that we’re having a kid?!”

Dazai is dramatic, as always, shouting some type of spiel about how beautiful the child is going to be since they’re yours or how he’s going to keep you from getting stressed at work or if the child is going to come out naturally wearing bandages.

He becomes overprotective, needing to make sure that you’re safe from all harm…including stairs, scissors, and slipping in the shower. It honestly gets kind of annoying, but you do love that weird charm of his.

The further you are into the pregnancy, the more protective Dazai becomes both from his past in the mafia and the enemies he attained and for your general well-being.

Kunikida:

He’s mad at himself for not using protection/contraception if the baby was an accident. If the baby was expected, then he is ecstatic, although he doesn’t show it at first.

If you also work at the ADA, he tries to convince Fukuzawa to have you stay in the office instead of going on any dangerous missions, which Fukuzawa agrees to.

He’s more aware of his book than he ever has been, especially when he’s near you, ready to pull it out and protect you from danger on a moment’s notice.

Akutagawa:

Like Chuuya, he’s flabbergasted, not knowing how to react. How was he going to raise a child? Was he capable of raising a child? How was the rest of the mafia going to react? Those were the thoughts running through his head.

He’s super protective over you, having Rashoumon guard you almost 24/7. You end up developing a bond with Rashoumon, which irritates Akutagawa.

He has Higuchi and Gin take care of you when you’re in about the third trimester. Occasionally, he’ll help out too, but is horribly confused on what to do to the point that you’d rather have the two females around you instead.
