Things you should watch in the Autumn: A somewhat un-seasonal list by Alice

Majo No Tabitabi - This is a show about a witch who travels to various places and tries to avoid getting involved in the stories she encounters there. Don't watch this if sexual assault (mentioned) or gore (depicted) would be a problem for you, since episode 9 gets dark.

The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari - Do not watch the remake. Watch the original film from 1920. It's on youtube, and only a bit over an hour long. This is a film from the waning days of Weimar expressionism (and which was roundly denounced by many Weimar expressionists as inauthentic), with beautiful painted sets and a drama that, despite its simple structure, remains compelling over a century later.

Haibane Renmei - This show is about death, coping, and moving on. It came out the year I was born, and uses a muted colour palette to great effect in establishing its tone. It's a melancholy show about girls with wings living in an isolated rural community with strange rituals. It's beautiful, and it *feels* like autumn in a way nothing else on this list does, even though it isn't really an "autumn" show in the way something like Over the Garden Wall is. It leaves you with questions.

Puella Magi Madoka Magica - This one is kind of a religious text for some trans women. It's a story of love and tragedy between magical girls, and the movie Rebellion continues the story in a logical and yet controversial-at-the-time way. Another film has been announced recently, so this is a good time to get into Madoka, or rewatch it if you haven't seen it in a while.

So Ra No Wo To - Also sometimes written as Sora No Woto, and I'm told one or both is wrong. This is, like Haibane Renmei, in the genre of melancholy shows about girls living in rural communities, but with a bit less darkness and a bit more in the way of comedy, though it still knows when to be serious. Honestly, it's not as good as Haibane Renmei, so if you only watch one of the two, watch that. It was unfairly written off as a K-On clone when it first came out, however, and deserves more love than it gets. Noel Kannagi is autistic. It leaves you with questions, though not as many as Haibane Renmei does.

[03/31] Happy birthday to my favorite Japanese songstress, Maaya Sakamoto! She's also a really prominent voice actress!

As it is her birthday, I wanted to share with you all some of my favorite songs from her (ones I've heard at least). It's gonna be difficult, but I'll keep it to ten of them. ^_^;;

This is gonna be a long post (and full of music), but I hope you enjoy anyway!

Found on her album 'Easy Listening' (one of the first albums I bought of hers). It's such an amazing song! The last leg of it does make you feel like you're flying (at least to me). Definitely one of the songs I had on repeat alot in my younger years.

Hemisphere

This song is used for the opening of the anime called RahXephon. I like how the song picks up during the chorus. It just makes me so hype! Here's the opening if you're curious about the anime.

tune the rainbow

This one is the ending song played for RahXephon the Movie: Pluralitas Concentio--which is pretty much a compilation of the anime. I originally heard the unplugged version first (which is also really good). Here is an (official?) amv for the movie. Watching it again...I'm rather melancholic because of what happens in the anime/movie. I should rewatch it.

Waiting for the Rain

This song is used as the first ending for the anime The Asterisk War. I've never watched it, so I know nothing about it. But this song is really soothing, and one of few songs Maaya has sung fully in English. Here is the ending if you're curious about the anime.

Kazemachi Jet

This one is used as the second ending for the anime Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles. It's got such a playful kind of feel to it. I really like the first few notes from the violin (?) and guitar. I never did finish this anime. Maybe it's time I should. Here is the ending if you're curious about the anime.

KINGFISHER GIRL - The Song of "Wish You Were Here"

This is yet another song that Maaya has sung fully in English. It comes from her album 'Shounen Alice'. It has kind of that folkish (and a little melancholic) feel to it.

Kiseki no Umi (Sea of Miracles)

Used as the second opening for the anime The Record of Lodoss War. This song is pretty dope. When it first comes on, it just gets me really hyped up! And then when the chorus comes I'll sometimes try to belt it out as well. ^^;; Here is the ending for the anime if you're interested.

Tell Me What the Rain Knows

This song is used as a special ending for the anime Wolf's Rain. It's got a sense of sadness to it. Once again, it's a song sung fully in English. Every time I hear it, I'm reminded of the last few episodes of the anime... I should rewatch it. Here's the special ending if you're interested.

Triangler

This song is used as the first opening to the anime Macross Frontier. It's an upbeat song with an opening line that has you asking: "Who are you going to kiss? Me or her?" The anime (like most Macross, if I'm not mistaken) contains a love triangle of sorts, so the title fits. Here is the opening (which was really tough to find) if you're interested.

Yakusoku wa Iranai (No Need for Promises)

The opening for the anime The Vision of Escaflowne. This is pretty much the first song I heard from Maaya. This one also has a kind of folkish sound to it. It's also one that I'll try to belt out the chorus to. And the bagpipe breakdown in the middle slaps! Here is the opening to the anime if you're interested.

You two would definitely have a slow-burn relationship. You became companions fairly easily, but were slow to friendship. Once you spent more time together you warmed up to each other slowly, learning the intricacies of each other, and slowly fell for each other.

Sherlock is not a physical type per se so he would never pressure you to do anything you weren't comfortable with. He is perfectly fine just spending time with you, whether is be sitting around the house, reading, playing music, etc. Or walking around the city together. He doesn't need anything but you by his side.

Even if Sherlock doesn't need anything, he knows your main love language is gift-giving, so he knows each time you buy him something, it is you telling him you love him. So, he never rejects a gift, and even if he doesn't need it he keeps it. It now holds a sentimentality to it that he will protect.

It started out a little slow but once I got into it I came to love the characters. Some stand out episodes for me are Beauty, Eloise Gardener and One Little Tear.

What can I say, Alice jones! Knightrook! Curious Archer! I love the relationships and characters in s7. There were some really thrilling episodes in this arc. It beats 7a for me because things got more intense with the coven and we got a lot more curious Archer.

3. 3a

Neverland was a really cool realm. Every moment spent there felt more dangerous. Pan was a great villain and I'm still waiting for that Neverland spin off!

2. 3b

For my girl Zelena! I really likes her as the main villain. The arc had me on the edge of my seat not knowing what to expect or who to root for.

1. Season 1

So magical. Impossible to compare to anything else. The nostalgia! It's just so good. I am always tempted to rewatch for the amazing snowing, mama snow, swan believer content and enchanting episodes.

Still thinking about The Rise of Darkrai because revisiting nostalgic stuff almost a full decade later will be the death of me.

I realised there could be some very sad stuff implied in the movie?? But maybe that's just my brain digging for angst where there isn't any, so take it for what it is.

What got me theorizing was this one scene when Darkrai gets knocked out and crashes in the garden while fighting Palkia and Dialga. When Alice goes to check on him, he immediately mistakes her for her grandma, Alicia.

And when she tells him that her name is Alice and that Alicia was her grandma, he's kinda surprised by it. I never noticed that until now. So does he not know Alice at all? I mean he saved her life; we see in that flashback from Tonio, when Alice fell off a cliff while playing in the garden.

After some very confused and frantic voice messages to a friend of mine to try and explain it, here's the conclusion I've come to:

Darkrai probably didn't realise Alicia and Alice were two different people

Lemme explain:

First he meets Alicia in the garden when she first tells him that he can stay in there for as long as he pleases.

We know Alicia keeps going to the garden after that for decades, even taking Alice with her sometimes. I presume Darkrai would still be living in the garden at that time since as far as we know there was no reason for him to leave.

Alicia is already very old when we see her with a young Alice, so we can presume that she passed away sometime between this flashback and the present day of the movie.

This is the bit with more speculation from my part but I think it still fits pretty well with the timeline - after her grandma dies, Alice starts playing in the garden either by herself or with Tonio as shown in the movie. During that time, she falls off a cliff while playing with Tonio and Darkrai saves her.

We know Alice doesn't know Darkrai from her grandma since she seems to go off what people in town tell about him: how he's been living in the garden for years. She's even surprised when Tonio told her that he found out when her grandma encountered Darkrai for the first time.

We're never shown if Darkrai sees old Alicia around the garden after their first encounter, so as far as we know, Alicia is still a kid in his memory. That means that when he saves Alice in the garden, he probably thought he was saving Alicia.

And that leads back to the first scene I talked about.

The possibility that Darkrai probably didn't realize he was now protecting Alicia's granddaughter without even knowing Alicia herself had passed awat is a sad thing that totally went unnoticed by me when I rewatched the movie yesterday.

Legit just did this because I'm an absolute sucker for sad shit XD I absolutely adore the "smal child befriends scary creature through the power of love" so I felt like trying to expand on it for fun.

tl;dr: Darkrai probably didn't realized Alicia had passed away and kept protecting Alice thinking that was her.
