What is the Greatest Team in Motorsports?
So last weekend, Team Penske swept the three-wide front row for the 2024 Indianapolis 500, marking only the second time that a team has locked out the front row. The first time? Penske in 1988. Oh, and just to add a cherry on top of that, Penske won the NASCAR All-Star race at North Wilkesboro with Joey Logano.
This comes on the heels of Penske winning the 2021 Daytona 500 with Austin Cindric, the 2022 Indycar championship with Will Power, the 2022 NASCAR championship with Joey Logano, the 2023 Indianapolis 500 with Josef Newgarden, the 2023 NASCAR championship with Ryan Blaney, and the 2024 24 Hours of Daytona with Dane Cameron, Matt Campbell, Felipe Nasr, and Josef Newgarden. Yeah...they're on a run and a half, aren't they?
Beyond that, Penske has been everywhere and done everything.
Formula One? Won the 1976 Austrian Grand Prix with John Watson.
Sports Cars? Well in addition to the aforementioned Daytona 24 win, their Porsche-Penske RS Spyder dominated LMP2 racing in the 2000s - you know how everyone talks about how dominant the Diesel Audi LMP1s of the 2000s were? Well at the 2008 12 Hours of Sebring, the Porsche-Penske RS Spyder LMP2 beat the Audi R10 TDI LMP1. Penske won, a privateer RS Spyder finished second, and the Audi had to settle for third. Damn.
That's not even to mention how the Penske Porsche 917-30 with its 5.4L Twin Turbo Flat-12 was so dominant in 1973 that it killed Can Am.
Three Daytona 500s, nineteen Indianapolis 500s, four NASCAR championships plus two in the Xfinity series, seventeen Indycar championships across USAC, CART, and Indycar, and a grand total of over 500 race wins makes for a pretty compelling case.
Pretty much the only major feather messing in Roger Penske's cap is the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and, well, the Penske-Porsche partnership is at it again. The #6 Penske Porsche driven by Kevin Estre, Andre Lotterer, and Laurens Vanthoor has gone first-second-second in the first three WEC races of the season. That kind of form, plus some of the historic context I established for the Porsche-Penske partnership...are you really going to write them off ahead of Le Mans this year?
So yeah, Penske is a powerhouse of a team and they've been everywhere.
Including Australian Supercars of all things. Scott McLaughlin in the DJR Team Penske Ford took forty-eight wins across four years and won three championships in a row from 2018 to 2020, including the 2019 Bathurst 1000. He then went on to race in Indycar, has taken five wins so far, and just set a 233.220 four-lap average to take that pole position for the Indy 500.
Running the same classic Pennzoil yellow submarine livery as Rick Mears did in 1988. In the race itself, he'll wear a retro red and yellow suit of overalls modeled on the ones that Rick Mears wore in the 80s. If the stars align and Scott repeats what Rick did in 1988 and wins the Indy 500, then he'll have done something truly remarkable. He'll have cut his teeth in Australian supercars and come out of it one of the best Indycar drivers of the modern era.
Of course, his teammates will challenge him.
Will Power, who has more poles in Indycar than anyone else in history.
Josef Newgarden who won last year and has turned into a dominant force on ovals in Indycar.
Not to mention thirty other cars that want to wipe the smile off of Team Penske's face.
There is a lot of talk about Kyle Larson doing the double this year, racing the Indy 500 for Arrow McLaren and then racing the Coke 600 in Charlotte for Hendrick Motorsports, and he'll start fifth. That legitimately gives him one of the best chances of anyone to attempt the double. That being said, last year...Team Penske did the double as a team.
Josef Newgarden won the Indy 500, then Ryan Blaney won the Coke 600. Both of them went into the crowds to celebrate. If Kyle Larson wants to win the double, he'll be up against the mammoth that is Team Penske. Perhaps one of the greatest teams in all of motorsports, and they'll be facing him in both Indianapolis and Charlotte.
Let the games begin.
Sunday, May 26th, 2024 is going to be Motorsports Christmas. The Catalan Motorcycle Grand Prix, the Monaco Grand Prix, the Indianapolis 500, and the Coke 600. Two triple crown events, one of NASCAR's crown jewel, and the home race for about half of the MotoGP field, all in one day.
It's going to be a damn good day.

Nightburnerz, Part 1: 2025's greatest HW five-pack
The 2025 selection of five-packs has been pretty dominated by the F1s, but early in the year I heard a lot about this set:
Tumblr media
The Nightburnerz set comprises 4 licenced and one fantasy car, and where (if you're like me) most five-packs contain one or two cars you'd probably get if they were by themselves, but you don't want to pay for the others to get them, in this case every one of these is great.  I still had a little pause - but then I saw that 5-packs were reduced to £7.20!  Given they usually go for £11 and a mainline for £2.40, that's a pretty damn good price. I was never going to get the F1 set, I'm not a fan, and the Mattel anniversary one is not for me either, so this is the one for me. It's only my second five-pack ever, and with the single cars I got at the same time, it pushes my collection over the 1000 car mark! 1007 cars by my tally, and still going...
Tumblr media
Going in order from top to bottom of the pack, first is the Sierra.  The casting, a Ryu Asada design, represents itself on the bottom as an "'87 Ford Sierra Cosworth", which is part but not all of the story - It should read Ford Sierra RS Cosworth.  Also, the year 1987, lower ducktail spoiler below the whale-tail and central indent to the front bumper for an extra inlet slot below the grille indicates that this is the RS500 version, a limited edition of 500 RHD cars constructed for Ford and Cosworth by Aston Martin and sold in the UK only.  The Sierra was Euro Ford's main large saloon car, its hot boi configuration was known as the XR4i (alongside the Escort XR3i and Fiesta XR2i); the RS Cosworth was a hotter version with a 2.0l turbo engine based on a Ford Pinto, and the RS500 an even hotter one, with numerous engine tweaks to make it raceable.  Americans might have occasionally seen the Merkur XR4Ti on their roads and racetracks a bit earlier in the decade, a relatively unsuccessful and unusual attempt to sell a Euro Ford in the USA by beefing up and for some reason rebranding the Sierra XR4i ('Merkur' is German for Mercury), and the RS Cosworth adopted many of the components developed for the XR4Ti as well.
Tumblr media
The RS500 was created for dominating Group A racing, which it succeeded at in touring car racing all over the world, although it was less good at rally, inevitably losing out to 4WD cars on loose surfaces; there was an XR4x4 but it did not use the powerful Cosworth engine.  This one has Advan-style gradient stripes (my favourite flavour of racing decoration) of Ford-badge blue that look amazing, and the white Aerodisc wheels are a grand choice.
Tumblr media
I have the first release of this car (debut releases are one of my focuses with collecting, since I think of my collection as being focused on design and each car as a piece of commercial art more than a toy, and the first release most reflects the original designers' visions for the car), which is a nice pastiche of a Texaco livery worn by a successful 1987 racer - and the Matchbox Superkings one I had as a kid - and skipped the rest of the releases. They were cool, but not that cool.  I missed the white premium version with restrained and tasteful Ford racing stripes that was in the Canyon Warriors series.  That was very cool looking and if I'd seen that at a sensible price I'd have snapped it up, but in all honesty this might be even better.
Tumblr media
Next is the Maxima.  This is a Nissan Maxima G910 estate from around 1983, modified for drifting with the rear bumper deleted, a window cut in the bonnet and a big, aggressive splitter.  It's a really great casting that injects a ton of personality into an otherwise mundane everyday vehicle, like a budget DIY response to an Audi RS2 Avant, all early '80s angles and flat body panels with lovely bolt-on box flaring.
Tumblr media
It's a car for real car people, who understand every car is special to its owner and holds the potential for greatness within itself, that projects like this are about perceiving that potential and actualising it; the kind of car that makes you wish HW would do something like this this with your old family car, or an old beater you have long parted ways with.  I found a Speedhunters article here featuring a similar but less drifty car, with an RB25 engine swapped in, but I don't think there's an exact real-world counterpart to this car.  A weird thing I just realised about this car, though: what's going on with the back doors?  Has the rear box flare really sealed them shut?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For customisers it's a fun car to work on with the transparent bonnet allowing for engine detailing you'd not normally get a chance to appreciate, and this one has a chromed interior piece that will enhance the look of the engine a lot (I've not opened this yet, but I probably will).  I have the first release of this car also; in fact I have two of them, because this car saw the debut of the awesome FC3 wheel, modelled after the Advan SA3R wheel, one of my favourite wheel designs (and featuring on the Gentileschi Delta in Deliverance Book 3 ).  I wanted a set for customs, so I bought it again; the later releases featured a shakotan-style livery that didn’t appeal to me, and while the one in the Greddy diorama was the highlight of the set in my view, I wasn't really into the rest, so this grey/blue metallic one with "Hotto Hoiiru" on the side in Japanese is my third, but only the second design.
Tumblr media
Next is the car that provides the artwork for the box, the Supra.  This is a car with too many names: a 2020 Toyota GR Supra A90 (a.k.a. J29/DB, a.k.a. 5th generation) that wears a Pandem (a.k.a. Rocket Bunny) version 1 body kit. There's no mention of this kit on the car itself, but the kit is easily recognisable, flaring its wheel arches out even wider than normal and adding a wide wing to the back. Compared to the standard body version, this car has been released many times.  This Ryu Asada-designed casting is one I don't have the debut version of, as I found it rather dull, but I got the one from the Slide Street premium series which had more personality, and later on a whim I got the red A80 and A90 Then and Now pair from 2022.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The contours are very appealing on this car, especially the broad hips at the rear, and I've always admired how the car evokes the 2000GT as well as the A80 Supra, even though I don't really feel that passionate about this car.  This version is a really lustrous, sensual metalflake red that has a little iridescence to it, changing shade with angle, and suits a curvy body like this perfectly.  Some black swooshes on the sides get a Supra logotype in that strange ugly Supra font that looks like a very old man's handwriting and GR badges (the decisions behind Toyota's branding are a total mystery to me, what was wrong with TRD?). A tan interior peeps from inside. This is almost a sexy car, and I don't often say that, I don't find cars and sex crossing over very naturally, but this and its flowing curves is the colour of spectacular femme fatale lips or racy satin lingerie.  I think it's my new favourite A90. I still don't adore the A90, but I appreciate it fondly, and I'll defend it all day against the morons who moan because BMW worked with Toyota on the car and supply a lot of the parts - like BMW is bad at making performance cars all of a sudden? Anyway, newsflash, all cars are built with parts bought from suppliers, a lot of whom supply parts to multiple manufacturers. No Toyota is purely a Toyota, they buy components from dozens, maybe hundreds of firms. It's always been this way - or did you think Daimler forged all his own nuts and bolts?
Tumblr media
Number four is maybe my favourite car of the bunch, the one and only fantasy car of the pack, the Dimachinni Veloce.  Named for its designer Dmitriy Shakhmatov, a man who enjoys naming cars after himself, it's a car that naturally belongs in a group with the El Segundo Coupe and Glory Chaser, as an extremely credible pastiche of a European sports car racer, in this case a '70s Italianate wedge with British hints.  HW have just about perfected the art of the Muscle Car pastiche, but in recent years as their Euro and Japanese selection has grown, so too has their ability to use the design languages of these types of cars. The Dimachinni Veloce evokes Maserati Bora or Khamsin and De Tomaso Mangusta to me, a bit of Lamborghini Espada and maybe a pinch of Lancia 037 too, but seen alongside the Alfa Romeo GTV6 3.0 it bears a striking resemblance to that too, if one were to flatten the Alfa a bit (credit to Joe Eldridge of Ignition Diecast for this insight - his Yuuchoobe channel is a daily visit for me, an always interesting and entertaining place for collectors of little toy cars and a great exercise in zero-prep, zero-pretention, just-sit-down-and-speak-your-mind videos like Youtube was always supposed to be, and he has an epic archiving project happening too, collecting all the main line Hot Wheels since 1968 and showing each as he adds it to the archive).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And then there's hints of Lotus Elite or Aston Martin V8 sneaking in too.  The rear view is particularly interesting with the intensely Khamsin-esque glass across the entire back of the car (compare below with my Kyosho Khamsin, a car I still can't believe I found in a Junk shop in 上田市), spare wheel and louvred window.  The front meanwhile has the bonnet (complete with GTV6 3.0-like bulge) formed from the interior piece for colour contrast, which is especially striking here since it's chrome.  The black with gold detail is a minor theme among this year's main line releases, with the BMW 6 series, Bentley Continental GT3 and Lamborghini Miura, and looks no less gorgeous than any of them.
Tumblr media
This type of car is why Hot Wheels appeals to me, though - it's marvellous to behold the level of design ability that sees to the heart of an existing car design, can draw out features that can evoke those designs without copying them, and then integrates them into fictional designs that are credible enough that they can easily be mistaken for real cars, and do it with such verve and authoritative confidence.  Shakhmatov also designed the Maxima, and many other great castings but this is probably my favourite, and apparently was most recently in charge of premium castings, but left Mattel in 2023.
Tumblr media
My only other one of these is again a first version, a blue rally version.  I never encountered the green Alitalia-looking version from 2023 but it's on the list, near the top.
Tumblr media
Lastly from this pack, there's the Subaru.  This Subaru Impreza GR WRX STI is a 2011 model, the last year that WRX was a version of the Impreza - the WRX became a separate model from 2012 onwards.  GR in this case is indicating a widebody hatchback, the only available body for the STI that year. It's hard to ascertain since there are a great many special editions and so on of the Impreza, but this could be the second Cosworth in this pack.  A Cosworth-tuned Impreza called the CS400 was made in a limited edition of 75 only, and to this day remains the hottest over-the-counter Subaru out there (there must be 1000-hp Subarus out there at this point, though those will all be homebrewed).
Tumblr media
I was very unsure about the pink when I saw photos, I think pink cars are hard to do well without getting unnecessarily camp or tacky very quickly, but in person it's a lovely rich shade, warm and floral despite the metallic zing.  A Subaru is a atural choice for pink, though, since the STI logotype is pink.
Tumblr media
In the end my qualms about the colour match with the trajectory of my feeling about the car itself, though; I was never a fan of the Impreza hatchback and originally intended to skip this casting, preferring to stick to saloon-bodied Imprezas, but in fact this pink one is my 5th Subaru hatchback. I unexpectedly received the yellow 2021 one as a freebie in a package of other cars from a seller on Mercari when I lived in Japan.  I was delighted by this kind gesture and the car became a fond favourite, eventually getting rubber wheels, a roof sunburst tampo and a sticker-bomb tampo on the front bumper, an interior swap and even a cameo in Deliverance book 3, and getting me into hatchback Imprezas generally.  Later I built this red 2022 lifted one with oversized wheels (filing the wheel arches was a nightmare, it still doesn't roll freely, but I'm still proud of this, isn't it neat?), and bought the beautiful metalflake navy colour variant.  The fifth, the black one, is part of the 2019 Backroad Rally set, a collection I as a rally car lover felt obliged to get all of.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That's all from this five pack, and from part 1, but not all from the Nightburnerz series. In part 2 I'll think a bit more about what 'Nightburnerz' actually means...

Isuzu I-Mark Turbo RS
This is the Isuzu I-Mark Turbo RS, it’s a little-remembered hot hatch from the golden age of turbo that was designed by Italian great Giorgetto Giugiaro, it had suspension tuned by Lotus, and it was built by Isuzu in Japan.he Isuzu I-Mark Turbo RS was the top of the line model in the second generation Isuzu Gemini model family, a model family that had been initially designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro. After Giugiaro had finalized the styling it was sent to GM for approval, and this is where things began to go awry. GM made a few relatively minor changes to the design but no one at Isuzu or GM ran the changes by Giugiaro, when he learned what had happened he refused to have his name associated with the car and cut all ties with Isuzu. He wouldn’t publicly admit to having designed the car until a decade after it went out of production. As a result, some have called it “the forgotten Giugiaro.” This hiccup aside, the I-Mark Turbo RS was a remarkable performer by the standards of the time, most of the original Giugiaro styling remained, and Lotus had been hired to fine-tune the suspension. This all resulted in a car with excellent performance, sharp handling, popular styling, and good fuel economy to boot. The car shared the same basic steel unibody as the standard I-Mark, the suspension had been completely reworked by Lotus with new springs, thicker sway bars, and tuned shock absorbers. Period ads for the car claimed it could achieve .79g on a skid pad, just like a Porsche 944.In the inline-four cylinder engine has a displacement of 1.5 liters, it has double overhead cams, four valves per cylinder, and electronic fuel injection. In standard trim it produced 125 bhp at 7,800 rpm and it could do the 0-62 mph dash in 8.1 seconds – not a bad time for a hot hatch in the 1980s.

There's a special power to telling a story. Putting things into a sort of sequential, narrative format lets you convince people of your belief, even if it's complete bullshit. For whatever reason, our entire species is hard-wired to believe a story that provides a concise, simple explanation for the way the world is. I'm sure you can think of ways to abuse this power; for me, I used my theatrical training to get discounts on cars. One day, it all went sideways on me.
I remember it like it was yesterday. Here I am, standing on the previous owner's lawn, looking over a Corolla FX16. There was no way I was going to pay full price for this vehicle - my religion forbids it. Scanning the area and the vehicle for weaknesses, I determined that this guy would probably bend over backwards for a sympathetic yarn. So I tried one on.
"You know, I grew up in an orphanage in Hong Kong," I lied blatantly to his face. "The last thing I remember was that the man who dropped me off was driving one of these. It seems crazy, but driving your Toyota helped me feel like I had some connection to my birth family, as vague as it was."
He was blown away, and started to ask some followup questions. I quickly lost track of which contradictions and bullshit I had already woven through, but any inconsistencies in my amazing rags-to-riches story were quickly wallpapered over because he Wanted To Believe Me. A deal was struck, and I got fifty bucks off because of my story (and also because the wheels were a little scratched.) What I didn't realize was that my lies would follow me home, unlike the muffler of the FX16 as soon as I revved the car up to 4500 rpm and side stepped the clutch coming out of the owner's cul-de-sac.
The next morning, the press was at my door. They wanted to hear about this amazing story, how an orphan had formed a multi-million dollar textile business and was living in such squalor so as to remain humbly approachable in the hope that his birth father may one day return. I was a little aghast that I had laid it on so thick for a mere fifty bucks off, but then I remembered that the previous owner didn't include the spare-tire jack with the car, so fuck him.
Here's the thing with lies: once you make one, it's really easy to make more. I faced the camera, and laid out another amazing yarn about my long-lost mother's car, a 1988 Isuzu i-Mark RS Turbo. If anyone had one of those, I cried for the news, then please let me have it for super fucking cheap.
They didn't even bleep out that last part, because a rugged, self-made industrialist like me could say what he wanted with no fear of reprisal.

Isuzu I-Mark Turbo RS – "The Forgotten Giugiaro"

This is the Isuzu I-Mark Turbo RS, it’s a little-remembered hot hatch from the golden age of turbo that was designed by Italian great Giorgetto Giugiaro, it had suspension tuned by Lotus, and it was built by Isuzu in Japan. Perhaps due to its lack of fame relative to hot hatches like the Golf GTI, the Isuzu I-Mark Turbo RS remains relatively affordable – that is when a good example comes up for…

THE COOLEST AUDI EVER MADE? - 700HP AUDI SPORT QUATTRO - INSANE SOUND & PERFORMANCE
Tumblr media
Finally. That’s all I can say. This is it. This is the coolest and greatest car that will ever be in front of the Auditography lens. The majestic. The iconic. For many people, the ultimate and impossible dream Audi. The legendary, and the one and only: Audi SportQuattro!! It’s been a long time coming, and I’ve searched a long time for one, and here it finally is. Thanks to my friends at LCE Performance, I can present to you the craziest car Audi has ever made. The craziest sounds you’ve ever heard a car produce. For those that love Group B rally, you can already imagine. It’s hard for me to get this excited over a car, but this is the craziest ish! The Sport quattro, also called ”The Short One" was first presented to the public at the 1983 IAA. Delivery began in December 1984. It was developed on the basis of the Audi quattro for rallying and was produced from autumn 1984 to summer 1985 in a quantity of only 220 units. The guys at LCE Performance are very proud, after a lot of development work, to be the only ones worldwide who can offer the customers such a replica with 100% TÜV! For further information please contact them. The car is fully street legal with up to an insane 1080hp. In terms of bodywork, Audi was able to proceed on the basis of a large number of its models in the so-called modular system. The Sport quattro is based on the two-door Audi 80 sedan up to the B-pillar and the Audi quattro from the B-pillar upwards. The Sport quattro is 320 mm shorter than the Audi quattro. The side doors are all from the Audi 80, while the tailgate is made of glass-fiber reinforced polyester resin, as was used for the front spoiler of the Audi quattro. Fenders, rear side panels, roof, hood, front and rear apron were manufactured and delivered by Seger and Hoffmann in Switzerland. These parts are made of multi-layer aramid fabric, epoxy resin and various additives. The production and processing of this dimensionally stable yet lightweight material also accounted for a large part of the total cost of the Audi Sport quattro. The weight of 1,060KG is a result of these blatant conversions to full carbon in all areas, which allows for a constant TÜV conformity. In addition to its lightness, the Sport Quattro stands out because of the characteristics hidden under the hood. A modified five-cylinder in-line engine from the Audi A6 2.5 TDI in combination with a 92.8mm crankshaft from the South African VW T4 diesel bus and a modified Audi S2 cylinder head generates an incredible 1,081 hp. Coated forged pistons, H-shaft connecting rods and 22 mm piston pins provide the necessary stability. Breathed by a TTE 1200 turbocharger with RS 2-Wastegate, the Sport Quattro fires the 3.5-inch exhaust system, which is a custom-made product and runs from the turbocharger. A maximum boost pressure of 3.4 bar accelerates the Sport Quattro to a theoretical 330 km/h. The 6-speed manual transmission, which is operated using a CAE shifter, has been lengthened in 6th gear to allow it to operate at low revs even during longer freeway stages. Car: 1984-1985 Audi Sportquattro Coupé Original Engine: 2.1L 5 cylinder Turbo, 310hp/350Nm/228Kw This engine: A modified five-cylinder in-line engine from the 2.5 TDI in combination with a 92.8mm crankshaft from the South African VW T4 diesel bus and a modified Audi S2 cylinder head generates an incredible 700hp (can put out up to 1081hp) Performance 0-100kmh(62mph): around 3.5 seconds Top speed: 280km/h - 700hp, 330km/h - 1081hp Weight: 1080kg Quattro and gearbox: 4x4 full-time (quattro 1gen, all-wheel drive permanent; manual locks on center and rear differentials), manual 5-speed gearbox Location: Markdorf, Germany Instagram: http://www.Instagram.com/auditography YouTube: http://www.YouTube.com/auditography Facebook: http://www.Facebook.com/auditography Camera & lens: Canon Eos 5D Mark IV / 24-70mm Special thanks to: LCE Performance (http://www.lce-performance.de), Sportquattros, Carparazzi Music: ”Hybrid Intro Action Movie” by Fly_Productions https://audiojungle.net/item/hybrid-intro-action-movie/23641424 #audi #sportquattro #audiquattro .video-container {position: relative;padding-bottom: 56.25%;padding-top: 1px; height: 0; overflow: hidden;} .video-container iframe, .video-container object, .video-container embed {position: absolute;top: 0;LEFT: 0;width: 100%;height: 100%;}

EcoBoost Mustang Breaks World Record with 800+ HP Dyno Pull

EcoBoost Mustang Breaks World Record with 800+ HP Dyno Pull
Tumblr media
Back when the EcoBoost engine was initially introduced under the hood of the Kia Mustang in 2015, many had been less than thrilled. It was believed with a large percentage of Ford lovers that a four-cylinder didn’t belong within the engine bay of the iconic muscles car, even with a turbo. At this point, I won’t say that I was excessively welcoming to the four-cylinder S550 possibly. I would be lying if I mentioned the EcoBoost made my want list. But after much time considering Ford’s potential reasons for including the brand new engine alongside the existing 5. 0l Coyote option and 3. 7-liter V6 option, I realized all of us might be knocking down the EcoBoost prior to we gave it a fair possibility. After all, the EcoBoost wasn’t beyond the boundary of a cry from the coveted SVO of the Fox-body era.
Photo thanks to Parker Performance Facebook page.
As the years possess passed since its introduction, we now have seen many impressive EcoBoost Mustangs hit the street, dyno, and speedway. We recently heard about an EcoBoost belonging to Jessie Ringley, an professional at the University of Tennessee, plus owner of Engineered Motorsports Solutions in Rogersville, Tennessee. According to the post upon Mustang6G , it took 5 years of research and development, testing, and more in order to the world record, passing the eight hundred rear-wheel horsepower mark — 805 horsepower and 726 lb-ft torque capacity at the rear wheels to be precise — without nitrous.
According to the post in the forum, the particular Mustang features a 2 . 0-liter cross block with the 2 . 3-liter revolving assembly, assembled by its proprietor. The poster, whose name is just listed as Josh (username MiDiablo), says the pair began building the lethal combination in 2016, beginning with an OEM Ford semi-closed deck from the Focus or Blend 2 . 0L offerings. They additional the 2. 3-liter rotating assembly in addition to a Focus RS head gasket, plus “several other tricks, ” based on Josh. After trying many iterations and with a lot of blood, sweat, plus tears, Jessie perfected the combination. Josh said some of the issues they will ran into included the bring about wheel coming apart from the crank pulley and flexplates breaking. The group created solutions like an one-piece turn pulley and SFI-rated flywheel. In addition they added a CVFab Race Primary front-mount intercooler.
Josh said the combination made greater than 50 psi on-track according to datalogging information and believes that the dynamometer pull that resulted in an 805-horsepower reading was at 43 psi.
After sharing information with other EcoBoost owners in an effort to assist others make big power, the particular pair at this point offers a fully assembled short or long obstruct from Jessie’s organization, EMS, through Parker Performance . Josh states that Jessie’s goals for the 2021 season include clicking off a good 8-second quarter-mile time, and we are sure it’s only a matter of your time before that dream becomes a fact.

First Drive: The Aston Martin DBS Superleggera Volante Is a Scorching-Fast Drop-Top Dream
Tumblr media
Absolute beauty, absolute torque, absolutely buy one.
One of the most crucial things you learn after cycling through a veritable legion of different cars is that numbers—those cold, hard, irrefutable statistics pooled at the base of so many published automotive tests—don't tell the whole story. This is common sense, but no one prepares you for the inevitable perspective rot that sets in sometime between your first afternoon with a 220-horsepower hot hatch and the third time you pin the throttle in something with more 500 hp; it eats away at your internal goalposts to the point where your first impressions of statistics are now gangrenous and foul. "$50,000, 600 hp, and zero-to-sixty in 3.7," you read. "No dual-clutch? Might as well turn the whole lot of them into an artificial reef." No, not really, but this is where the 715-hp, 211-mph 2020 Aston Martin DBS Superleggera Volante comes in.
As tested, this metallic orange, color-shifting shard of crystalized speed will liberate $388,000 from your offshore accounts if you replicate its build. If we're comparing caviar to caviar, that's $200,000 dearer than a loaded BMW M8 Competition Convertible and $32,000 more than a base Rolls-Royce Dawn. Heck, for that kind of cash, you've got a stripper fixed-roof Ferrari 812 Superfast and a spare $53,000 in options to play with. Leave all of the extras on the shelf, and you're still going to pony up roughly $330,000 for the privilege of owning the 2020 Aston Martin DBS Superleggera Volante.
Plenty Of Power For this kind of financial sucker punch, more than a few of you are sneering at the 715-hp figure. After all, the aforementioned Ferrari 812 manages 789 hp without the help of forced induction, which is itself a smidge down from the blue-collar Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye with its concrete-crackin' 797 hp. Keep reading, and it becomes statistically more upsetting; in place of the supercar-standard dual-clutch transmission, the 2020 Aston Martin DBS Superleggera Volante makes use of a traditional ZF-sourced eight-speed automatic, returning a zero-to-60-mph pull of a feet-dragging 3.5 seconds. Can you imagine admitting that middling time down at the athletic club? Careful you don't mention that in front of Alistair—I heard he's been mighty proud of his new 911 Turbo S and its 2.6-second sprint.
Enough snark. Untethered by comparisons, spec charts, instrumented testing, and Instagram comments, 715 hp is borderline unfathomable in a road-legal car, let alone something that was designed as a semi-cushy riviera mile-muncher. Significantly, aside from the monumental power, the DBS' 5.2-liter twin-turbo V-12 chugs out 664 lb-ft of torque. If you absolutely have to keep score, that's more twist than anything with an internal combustion engine on the present production roster at Ferrari, McLaren, Porsche, and Lamborghini.
Spleen Scrambling Speed There's so much torque, in fact, the transmission restricts the output in first through third gears, only giving up the full goods once you shift into fourth. From a dig, there's a mad scramble from the rear as the Pirelli P Zeros hop, skip, and slide trying to hold on. Once it hooks—somewhere around the 50-mph mark—you gather speed like a hiker chucked off a cliff by Bigfoot. There's no discernable drop-off in power, even as things get a bit blurry, breathless, and lose-your-license stupid; drinking deep from that twin-turbo V-12 gives off the sneaking suspicion the invisible hand of acceleration's been hitting the trenbolone rather aggressively. Not since the Porsche GT2 RS  and the McLaren 720S have I experienced a car that feels so capable of a million-miles-per-hour—and those aforementioned Automobile All-Stars did so with a piddling torque figure well shy of the 600 lb-ft mark. If one of your qualifiers for being a true "GT" car is the capability to effortlessly shuttle occupants at high-speeds for long distances, the 2020 Aston Martin DBS Superleggera Volante passes with flying colors.
Looks To Die (Another Day) For That's to say nothing of the visual and aural drama that accompany this railgun launch. With or without the soft-top, the DBS Superleggera is arguably the most stylistically evocative Aston Martin we've seen in quite some time. If you weren't a fan of the catfish-style grille Aston cultivated since the 1950s, you're not going to like the DBS' maw, but it synergizes well with the DBS' unavoidably hulking footprint. Those flowing, windswept lines are devastatingly beautiful; it looks as if, were you to spatter a parked DBS' clamshell hood with water, the droplets would streak over the bodywork and dissipate off of the rear lip within seconds.
There isn't the same level of aesthetic theater inside, but mostly divine materials and thoroughly modern design permeate the cabin. Stitching and leather is top-notch, as is the infotainment infrastructure sourced from technical partner Mercedes-Benz. Some fasteners and mounting points are plastic, but you have to hunt for anything not leather-wrapped or carbon-clad. For the intended purpose of long-distance cruising or coddling on your daily commute, it feels mostly worthy of the $330,000 payout.
I'm not the only one who digs the DBS. Wherever you drive, cruise, park, fill up, or idle, phones come out, kids cheer, and takes are tripled. Parking the Volante in front of a nearby house where a car-hungry kid lives drew surrounding neighbors out like free ice cream, requesting photos, info, and an earful of that 12-cylinder music.
The Sound And The Fury What a sound it is, too. V-12s are understandably endangered these days, and two out of the six existing V-12 automakers don't even put their's on performance duty. Mercedes' AMG-ified V-12s are gruff torque monsters with an industrial-age soundtrack to match, so it falls to Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Aston to harmonize. The DBS' 12 isn't as sonorous as the vaguely Duratec-based Aston V-12s from the past two decades, but it's smoother and less gargle-prone than those free-breathing monsters.
However, just like those prior Aston V-12s, the DBS sounds objectively phenomenal, but somehow it manages to be somewhat clinical—almost like a V-8 tuned to sound like a V-12. Distant highway rips in a big Ferrari or Lambo are easily identifiable, but the DBS' 5.2-liter is almost characterless in tonality, similar to the crackly noise emitted by Jaguar's ubiquitous 5.0-liter supercharged V-8.
Superleggera Does Not Necessarily Mean Super Light Escape the looky-loos and charge into the hills, and the story gets even sweeter. The 2020 Aston Martin DBS Superleggera Volante is a big car, so leave the tighter, narrower stuff to the Boxsters and BMW M2s, and head for an area with wide sweepers. Sawzalling the roof off the DBS coupe added an additional 220 pounds to the already hefty car, now weighing in at a total of 4,107 pounds. All of that extra mass went into both the folding canvas roof and the requisite structural bracing to compensate for the aire libre configuration. To offset this added bulk, Aston rejiggered the rear suspension by increasing the spring rates by 13 percent, alongside a 30-percent higher compression-rate and a 25-percent greater rebound rate.
Without having driven the coupe back-to-back with the drop-top, I can't say how big of a difference it makes, but I'd reckon with the Volante-specific changes, differences are minor. Charging over curvier tarmac, the excellent multilink suspension setup, wide track, and 50:50 weight distribution belies the bulk, returning composed handling that suits the car's multi-purpose, long-legged character. Compared to the sharper-edged Vantage, the DBS eschews the smaller car's Track suspension setting, instead offering three stiffness tiers ranging between GT, Sport, and Sport Plus. Most seat time was spent toggled between comfort-oriented GT and edgier sport, leaving Sport Plus only for truly pristine pavement.
Dynamically, there are only two gripes: The steering isn't as sharp or tactile as I'd hoped, and when paired with the DBS' particularly touchy throttle, the ZF-sourced eight-speed transmission was either overeager or reluctant to downshift, depending on the toggled drive mode. However, during regular day-to-day driving, neither the steering, throttle, nor transmission intruded enough to warrant further complaint.
Endurance Superstar Surprise, surprise—sublime, semi-relaxed grand touring is the 2020 Aston Martin DBS Superleggera Volante's party piece. Like the big Astons that came before it, the DBS gobbles up hundreds of miles at an alarming pace, with nary a care given to broken pavement nor speed limits. Meanwhile, paralyzing beauty and roaring vocal cords alone are nearly worth the cost of entry. The 2020 Aston Martin DBS Superleggera Volante is not a numbers car; call it a sensation car, as corny as that may be.
Next time the members down at the polo grounds get high-and-mighty with their Bentleys and Maybachs, take 'em out for lunch in the DBS—just make sure you take the long, straight-and-then-sweepy way.
2020 Aston Martin DBS Superleggera Volante Highlights: Brain-bending good looks Enough torque to move an oil tanker Feels absolutely capable of its claimed 211-mph top speed Expensive—and worth it เดิมพันบาคาร่า

MG Motors will debut the Maxus D90 in India at the 2020 Auto Expo
The D90 is scheduled to be launched in India by Diwali 2020. The D90 is already on sale in some Asian markets beneath the Maxus model title. Its additionally offered in Australia as the LDV 90. Just like MG Motors, Maxus can be a subsidiary of SAIC. The D90, when its launched in India will be full-size SUV with three rows of seating and it will rival the likes of the Toyota Fortuner, the Ford Endeavor and Mahindra Alturas G4 in India.
Just like its rivals, the D90 can be constructed on a ladder-frame chassis. In phrases of dimensions, the D90 measures 5,005mm in size, 1,932mm in width, 1,875mm in top and has a wheelbase of two,950mm. That makes the D90 even bigger than the Alturas G4. You can thus count on tons of area on the inside.
If we’re to go by the international-spec D90, then it comes very nicely kitted on the interiors. Expect MG Motor’s model of Maxus D90 to return with 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, an 8.0-inch digital instrument cluster, three-zone local weather management, cooled/heated seats, a panoramic sunroof and a 360-degree digital camera on the vary topping trims. However, the D90 with this engine will not generate a lot gross sales in India. MG’s mum or dad firm SAIC was engaged on a brand new 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel engine that will produce 218hp and 480Nm of peak torque. AMG’s Mind-Blowing 603-hp Family Haulers That Are Also Incredibly Practical
Seriously, this is a “1 percenter” conundrum, but it’s a fun automotive/escapist exercise, nonetheless. Let’s imagine you have a family of five to seven, perhaps a doggo, and occasionally visit a local nursery, home-improvement store, or big-box outlet. Oh,, and you have the financial means to consider a $100,000-plus, fire-breathing, AMG-built wagon or SUV. Which path more-rapidly traveled should you take?
2020 Mercedes-AMG E 63 4Matic+: A Rare Breed.
On one side of the garage, we have an ultra-wagon—the Mercedes-AMG E 63 S 4Matic+ station wagon. It’s the ‘have your cake and eat it, too’solution to “I want an all-wheel-drive AMG super sedan, but also I want more than double the cargo capacity.” Because Cadillac pulled the plug on the CTS-V wagon in 2014, Dodge stopped building the Magnum SRT way back in 2008, and BMW built a very limited run of rare M5 wagons (none of which were available to U.S. customers), only a handful other automakers currently stand with AMG and offer performance wagons: Audi, Jaguar, Porsche, and Volvo. (Until we can arrange for that dream comparison, here’s our initial take on Audi RS 6 Avant against an E 63S wagon. Meanwhile, back to the AMG intramurals.)
Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 4Matic+ SUV: The Unicorn You Didn’t Know You Wanted
On the other side of the garage, we have the 2021 Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 4Matic+ SUV, the largest sport utility Mercedes-Benz builds, that’s also been massaged by the AMG division. No other automaker offers a luxury high-performance 3-row SUV, not Audi, Bentley, BMW, Lamborghini, Porsche, or Rolls Royce. It is literally in a class of one. The GLS 63 SUV a (very fast) rolling seven-seat contradiction that defies logic. How can something so large, with a weight approaching 6,000 pounds, feel so lithe and capable on a twisting road and yet remain an everyday-livable sport utility?
Performance
Pro: The GLS 63 SUV is Seriously Quick Con: The E 63 Wagon is Quicker Still
Both the E 63 and GLS 63 are powered by the ubiquitous AMG twin-turbo 4.0L V-8 making 603 horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque. With so many automakers offering 600-plus horsepower motors today, we’ll update the old refrain and now say, “600 is the new 500.” They’re both fitted with a rapid-fire AMG-tuned nine-speed automatic, but where the two differ is that the GLS’s engine is a mild hybrid with a 48-volt electrical system and an “EQ Boost starter/generator” that seamlessly fires up the engine and adds 21 hp and 184 lb-ft into the mi—-not additively, by the way. The added electric-motor torque-fill, indeed, effectively eliminates most of the turbo lag you might feel at part-throttle, but that’s where the performance gains end. If you’re at full throttle, the added torque lies waiting in the background.
To Nobody’s Surprise
We’ve tested a 2018 E 63 wagon, and it ran to 60 mph in just 3 seconds flat. Imagine that: one-thousand-one, one-thousand-two, one-thousand-three: SIXTY! In a wagon. There are roughly 50 cars MotorTrend has ever tested, mostly supercars, that have managed to get under the 3-second mark. That this approximately 4,700-pound wagon gets this close is truly a remarkable feat. Even without considering its drift mode— ensuring it’s completely rear-wheel drive— the E 63 wagon is truly an overperformer.
We’ve yet to measure the GLS 63’s acceleration, but combing through our data and previous tests of the current generation GLS (450 and 580) and tests of the last-gen 5.5-liter 577-hp/561–lb-ft GLS 63, we’re confident to report this one would easily be under 4 seconds to 60 mph; somewhere in the range of 3.8 seconds. Again, a truly stellar performance, but several tenths shy of the wagon.
Ride and Handling
Pro: Both Benefit from Air Springs and Adaptive Dampers Con: There’s No Arguing with Physics
Air springs do a wonderful job smoothing out the ride, but you need other, smarter, faster systems to aid handling. In the GLS 63, its 48-volt electrical system fires electro-mechanical actuators to effectively negate body roll, and it truly works. What should feel like a runaway Conestoga with steam-roller sized 23-inch mono-block forged wheels, ends up feeling like a very fine handling wagon. What’s more is that the ride is very calm and controlled.
And the wagon, lighter by 1,300 pounds? Well, it feels like top-tier sport sedan; so confident and capable, one simply forgets they’re driving what is otherwise a smooth-riding wagon. That thought simply vanishes as the roads grow more challenging.
People Space
Pro: The E 63 Wagon is Spacious Con: The GLS 63 is Cavernous
OK duh, so the heavier SUV isn’t as quick or agile as the wagon, but what about space? You wouldn’t be considering either of these if all you needed was a fast AMG-branded car, right? Then it’s about people space and cargo space.
With a 7.7-inch longer wheelbase, you anticipate the GLS would easily trounce the E wagon for passenger comfort. You’d be mostly right, but then you realize those inches need to be chopped into three rows of seating rather than two. (Note: The current non-AMG versions of the E-Class wagon come with standard rear-facing third-row jump seats, bringing the seat count to seven—same as the GLS. This will remain true in 2021 when the only other E-Class wagon will be the soft-road-ready All-Terrain, set to do battle against the Audi A6 Allroad and the Volvo V90 Cross Country.)
Back to people space: The GLS SUV’s much taller roofline affords an obvious headroom advantage in every seat. Mind you, hoisting yourself into the tall GLS is a bit more of a chore. Then it might surprise you that the driver and front passenger in the E-wagon are afforded about an inch more legroom. The second-row legroom comparison isn’t even close. The GLS offers six more luxurious inches in which to stretch out. Naturally, there’s an available Executive Rear Seat package available. The difference in shoulder room between these two isn’t as great, and three-across in either second row isn’t out of the question.
Cargo Space
Pro: The E63 Wagon Can Haul a Boatload of Stuff Con: Did We Mention the GLS is Cavernous
Although the trunk volume of the E 63 sedan is generous at 13.1 cubic feet, the wagon offers 35 cubes with all seats occupied and 64 cubes with the second row folded. That’s on par with popular SUVs like the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4. Impressive, right? With the second row folded, the length of the floor is impressive. If it were ever needed, a 6-foot-plus tall person could sleep in the back, say for an overnighter at the 24 Hours of Sebring. The cargo lift-over height is a very reasonable 22.4 inches, and the wagon can safely carry as much as 1,300 pounds. It cannot be equipped for towing in the states, but seriously, who needs an SUV?
However, the GLS is a cargo ship by comparison. With all seats folded, it can hold 20 cu-ft more cargo, something like a large ottoman, and nearly accommodate a 4-by-88-foot sheet of plywood. Lifting cargo over the GLS’s 33-inch high transom might be a tall order, but it can carry nearly 1,700 pounds. Considering the significant power of the engine, it’s a bit surprising the GLS 63 is rated to tow a modest 4,300 pounds. No doubt, if you need to move a lot of stuff or people rapidly, the seven-passenger GLS 63 is the one for you.
Off-Roading
Pro: The GLS 63 Can Genuinely Go Off Roading Con: The E 63 Should Never Go Off Road
Both the E 63 wagon and GLS 63 SUV have air springs; however, the GLS’s can raise orlower the SUV at will. While the wagon is fixed at 5.0 inches of ground clearance with bumper-scuffing 12.7 and 15.0 degrees of approach and departure angles, the SUV’s clearance can vary between 7.9 and 8.5 inches, and when raised to its highest level, it can afford a respectable 23.0/21.0-degree approach/departure angles. It would be like a Bigfoot sighting if you came across a GLS 63 in the wild, but it can go off-roading.
User Interface
Pro: The E 63 Wagon’s “MBUX” is Hard to Navigate Con: The GLS 63’s is Worse
Both vehicles come with a graphics-intensive low-button-count version of the Mercedes-Benz User Experience. There are two 12.3-inch multi-configurable color displays with abundant, unintuitive menus. Where the (older) E 63 wagon uses a combo pad/push-knob to navigate what must total 100 different screens buried in menu after menu, the newer GLS 63 is controlled by a trackpad/touchpad alone.
Just as we criticize Lexus for its similarly frustrating interface, we do here in the GLS as well. Besides being variously precise, monitoring where the cursor is and hitting your mark requires far too much of a driver’s valuable attention. We get it, fewer moving parts that could break, taking every last ounce out of a vehicle to save weight, but at some point, the actual user experience should matter more. True story: Family friends who have purchased a new Mercedes-Benz every two years for the past 2  let their new GLE sit in the garage and instead drive their spare 2015 Ford Explorer because the GLE’s infotainment system “scares” them. Do better, Mercedes-Benz.
Safety
Pro: Both Have an Extensive Suite of Advanced Safety Systems Con: Sometimes They’re Intrusive and Difficult to Disable
Besides 10 airbags, a driver attention monitor, and laser-sharp LED headlamps with auto high-beams, the E63 wagon is equipped with standard blind-spot monitoring, a system that Mercedes calls “Pre Safe,” which is activated when an imminent front or rear collision is predicted, and pedestrian/collision-avoidance auto braking. For instance, if stationary and the wagon senses an imminent rear collision, it will apply full brake pressure to avoid being pushed into an intersection or another car, raise the front seats to a more upright position, pretension the seat belts, and issue a particular frequency of sound from the audio system that causes an ear reflex to protect from loud noises. It also has parking sensors and a 360-degree camera system.
The GLS 63 has all the above and yet three fewer airbags (no rear-side or front passenger knee) but adds curve-following LED headlamps, lane keep assist, and adaptive cruise. Not bad, but considering so many new cars priced tens of thousands of dollars lower offer an even broader, standard safety suite, this feels a little skimpy for $100,000-plus vehicles.
The E 63 has an additional Driver Assistance package that goes a couple steps beyond the GLS’s standard equipment. This $2,250 option includes adaptive cruise control with active curve-sensitive and speed limit adjustment, lane keeping and lane change assist, auto braking for pedestrian/collision avoidance and rear cross traffic, evasive steering assist including blind-spot assist, and something Mercedes calls Impulse Side protection, which when a side impact is imminent,  will nudge a front occupant toward the center of the car in their seat.
That’s a lot to digest, and it’s a lot to control or defeat if it’s not functioning to your liking. For instance, when using the curve/speed limit-sensitive cruise control, the vehicle slows inexplicably—sometimes drastically—when entering a slower-speed zone (to the dismay of following drivers). If one simply presses the accelerator pedal in defiance too many times or for too long, the entire system shuts down. Gah! There may be a way to decouple the curve and speed limit tattle tales in a menu somewhere, but good luck finding that while driving.
We did appreciate the blind-spot systems: good clear warnings and a slight nudge on the wheel. The rear cross-traffic auto braking may save the day a time or two. The forward-looking automated braking was properly (not too conservatively) calibrated for L.A.’s unpredictable and congested traffic. It never inadvertently sent a brief case into the passenger foot well.
In Summary
Pro: Unfathomably Capable, Comfortable, and Posh Con: You Can Choose Only One
There’s no question that if you have more than $100,000 to spend on family/cargo transport, you’re going to be happy with either the Mercedes-AMG E 63 S wagon or GLS 63 4Matic+. Heck, you could probably afford both and be done with it.
In terms of acceleration to 60 mph, with the advantage of all-wheel-drive, either would give a 760-hp Mustang Shelby GT500 a run for its money. That’s simply world-class quickness. They both offer opulent interiors that can comfortably accommodate five to seven people and/or more cargo than you’ll probably ever need them to. Shockingly, neither one is so egregiously thirsty that they earn a gas-guzzler tax.
The GLS 63 is an unapologetically grandiose luxury liner with previously incomprehensible performance. Looking at the nearly 6-foot-tall, 3-row SUV, you’d never suspect such explosive acceleration, cornering ability, or posh ride on those massive mono-block wheels – or that it could (and not that anybody would) safely traverse a moderately challenging trail. Do you want it all with zero compromise? Then there’s nothing like it from any other automaker today. Go claim your unicorn right now.
That said, we in the in the automotive press have always been drawn to stealthy, sporty wagons not only for their incongruous performance-to-image qualities, but also because they’re almost always more attractive than their sedan siblings; the lines are longer, sleeker, and just sexier. Yes, we just said wagons are sexier than sedans. Look at Audi, BMW, Dodge (when they offered one), Jaguar, Mercedes, Porsche, or Volvo. Fight us. And for now, the E 63S wagon is the apex of the breed. It’s incredibly satisfying to drive, rides beautifully down the highway, and literally hauls more than cargo. It’s also easy to park, and doesn’t scream “Look at me!” For us, all these talents add up to one of the most desirable vehicles on the planet. It would be the one we’d choose and even more so, it would be the onewe’d probably be happy with for the rest of our motoring lives.

Peugeot 208
