June 2025
About a month ago, my publisher mentioned I should write dev logs. For publicity, y’know? I don’t know how to do that. I’m going to try anyways. I tried before, last year (and I think the year before?) — but I wasn’t very good at it. I was doing it in a weird style, on the blog I made for strange lantern productions, and it just didn’t feel right. I didn’t keep up with it, no one read them, so I just… stopped. Now I’m starting again, and I hope someone reads. I’ll post them on my personal Tumblr, and on my Itch, and we’ll see where this goes. This one’s going to be extra weird and retrospective-y because this month is a very special anniversary for me: it’s the two year anniversary of me becoming a game dev, for real.
I realized I wanted to make games in the spring of 2020, but it wasn’t until 2023 that I felt like I was allowed to call myself a game developer. I was a year out of college, working two jobs, and I played my first RPG maker game. I played the remaster of Ib, and I fell in love with it. Then I played Mad Father, and started watching video essays on the genre, and realized I could use RPG Maker. I could make games all by myself. I’d already been told I should by every industry professional I reached out to for advice after graduation. So I bought RPG Maker MV and went through all its tutorials, and then I realized I should really get RPG Maker MZ. It was a real rocky start, to stay the least. I spent all my disposable income on assets to play around with in the engine, I tried to make sprites of a fankid my friend and I had come up with. Then I lost my job. Because of government stuff. So, I had a lot of time on my hands. During May and June of 2023 I holed up in my apartment and made a game. It wasn’t very good. I was flying by the seat of my pants, learning what I could do with the engine, how to use plugins, and how to just… tell a story in a game. It was a mess. The Lighthouse wasn’t good, by my own standards, but it was mine. I’d made it. And, I could make it better. Over a decade of writing experience had taught me that all first drafts have to do is exist. To learn more, I entered a week long game jam and made another, shorter game called Terminated. This game was better, if only in an organizational sense. I learned a lot from making it! Now, I don’t think it was very good, but it was yet another first draft to be proud of. It existed, and could be made better. Of course, soon after this victory my life was put on hold. I got a new job, I moved to a different city and was living alone for the first time in my life. My longterm partner was in Ireland, making the (what I now realize was abusive) relationship long distance. What followed was the toughest year of my adult life. It’s not easy to live alone, hours away from family and friends. The one friend I had in the city was my life line, and I am still so grateful to her. Shout out to you, Hannah. You’re the realest and I’m so lucky to have you in my life. During this tumultuous time, I worked on revising The Lighthouse — now called Frey Nel — and figuring out what the story I was trying to tell was even about. On top of that, I was working to find a composer and an artist to work with, since my own skills in those artistic categories are… not the best. I actually found BibiXP on accident, as I originally commissioned her for some additional sprite work when my original guy disappeared from Etsy for a time. My original sprite guy, Larkison, brought Youfoundnico on board to take over for him. And eventually, I asked my brother Lyon to do the rest of the art — portraits/busts, CGs, promotional art. Which brings us to now. I’m no longer in an abusive relationship, I’m living with my friends, and I’m on the precipice of releasing DelirIAM, a stand alone prequel to Frey Nel and the final form of Terminated. As of now, I’m planning on releasing it on June 30th , but should my brother’s ADHD win it’ll be delayed to the 7th of July. After that, it’ll be full steam ahead on revamping Frey Nel’s demo in time for its crowdfunding campaign in August/September. Thanks for joining me on this journey, here’s to the next two years!

Lessons learned from recent server and website updates

Content-Security-Policy
Regarding the CSP header, the prefetch-src entry is deprecated and should be removed. More at Mozilla!
Nginx and HTTP/3
The Nginx version in Ubuntu 22.04 is pretty old (1.18) and has reached EOL yet. For receiving newer releases one must add the Nginx repository from nginx.org to the package manager and remove the old install. Nginx distinguishes a stable branch (only security updates) with even minor release numbers and a mainline branch with odd minor release numbers. The latter also gets functionality updates. I employed this guide to update my servers. The Ubuntu package of the mainline branch delivers 1.25 at the time being which comes with inbuilt HTTP/3 support. It is still marked as experimental but some community members use it in production already. I have decided to do so, too, in order to gain some experience. Alas, only a minority of my visitors use it already despite of browser support being close to complete. It appeared that several HTTP/3 checkers were faulty or not online anymore. My screenshot was taken from Litespeed's HTTP/3 Check.

WordPress
WordPress (6.2.2) has a health check now (German: Website-Zustand) but some of its messages appear spurious. I employ the ActivityPub plugin so you can subscribe to authors with fediverse clients like Mastodon. For ingram-braun.net, where I am the only author, simply put [email protected] in the search field of your client. Health check does not stop to complain about a faulty webfinger reply although I managed to subscribe to authors in real life. Read the full article

The Ultimate Guide To How does MT4 Manager API Work for Forex Brokers? | CPlugin
In this blog, we have discussed how the MT4 manager API works for forex brokers. What Did I Do In 2022?
Game Translations That Aren't YTTD: 1. Okay, maybe 1.5.
----
First of all, while I didn't add it until later in the year (not entirely unmotivated by the Stability of Platforms), my site now has an RSS feed for notable updates of any kind! I mention this upfront because I'm mostly just going over the things that are already listed there. It currently retroactively covers everything back to 2020, but I might add more past stuff over time so it can better serve as a general "everything I've ever done" page.
In February, I translated Kenshi Yonezu's POP SONG (and an interview). Noel The Mortal Fate Seasons 1-7 also got a revamped version on consoles (Switch, PS4); the console versions include a new Season 3.5 translated entirely by me, and the rest of the seasons have a revised script which is more thoroughly edited by me than even the redone Steam translation was.
In March, the update adding Kai to Your Time To Shine came out. Yes, he is Kai.
In April, I finally finished up my unofficial Japanese translation patch for Petal Crash. たのしいね、クラッシュ! It actually just got some extra attention after the Petal Crash run for RTA In Japan about two days ago, which is kind of wild. Is this what it's like to be famous...? (clueless)
In May, I translated Kenshi Yonezu's Shin Ultraman theme song M87 (interview, interview), and the coupling song from the single, ETA. And there was an article about the 10th anniversary of his debut!
Also in May, the Ib remake came out on Steam in English! Told you they'd contact me. It was later announced to be coming to Switch, scheduled for March 2023.
In August, Your Turn To Die was announced to be coming to Steam. It's planned for early 2023, but to be clear, it'll release first in Early Access still with no final part, though with some exclusive mini-episodes and character profile sheets. Apparently once that's out, the actual completion is estimated for 6 to 12 months later... but, you know. Estimates are hard.
In September, I put together a guide for and officially "released" my Custom Translation Engine plugin for RPG Maker MV, the one I made for the Ib remake, and back-implemented into Your Turn To Die shortly after I was contacted about it coming to Steam. It's fancy (in-game language switching!), convenient (minimal direct editing of code!), and you can use it for your own translation projects if you want!
In October... well, I didn't do anything new for it, but I'll take credit for The Witch's House MV coming to consoles. (Switch, PS4, Xbox) I also translated everyone's favorite Chainsaw Man opening KICK BACK, associated interviews, and the single's coupling song Y'all Should Be Ashamed.
Finally, in December, after lots of spending my time elsewhere and indecision about how I should go about returning to doing some dang free game translations, I concluded that what I'd really wanted to do all year was translate Uri's PEDESTAL.
I think some people latched onto specific parts of Uri's original explanation for why it wasn't being translated, such as the cultural aspects (I honestly winced at her blunt remark that the story was "no good at all"), but while Uri indeed had those doubts at the time of release, the only real reason it wasn't translated at the time is that I did a less-than-ideal rushed playthrough that slightly hurt my overall impression of its quality, and I felt too busy at the time to work on something with lots of text that was likely to be divisive. So similarly, me finally feeling up to it was the reason it did get translated. I probably should've come back to it quite a bit sooner (after I was made to give up a certain other translation, say), but as I alluded to in last year's post, I was self-conscious about "my big return to free game translations" being something that might not have wide appeal. Uh, glad to be past that, hopefully.
Oh, and ever since finishing PEDESTAL, I've been working on all sorts of overhauls to my site, but like... not the kind that actually majorly changes any part of the visible design and annoys people (and if something did change in an annoying way, it's probably accidental). Some of it's just better consideration of mobile browsing (stuff like images or tables sticking out of bounds at mobile resolutions), or making things more convenient for myself behind the scenes (did you know I made a program to add "br"s to every line of all lyrics content before considering I could just have the page code do that, and also better?).
Some more major observable changes include general renovations to the lyrics page (bigger font size, buttons that hide individual languages to aid in side-by-side comparison), and more convenient navigation of OSTER's tweets, such that I could actually imagine someone reading through them all the way from the start without it being too much of a hassle.
----
While I'm glad to be over the PEDESTAL hump, I don't... necessarily have any definite plans for upcoming free game translations. I mostly just have some stuff on a list that I may have to make myself check out soon enough. Also, Game Atsumaru (which you may know as The Site That Hosts YTTD's Japanese Version) is ending in June??? So uh, might have to accelerate checking out stuff on there, though I guess it depends on how many creators are able to migrate. (Nankidai does plan to put YTTD's Japanese browser version up somewhere else.)
As I mentioned, Your Turn To Die's Early Access release on Steam should be coming up early next year with those mini-episodes and character profiles, and the game might be completed within the year. No promises. I mean, I don't have anything to promise, it's not my game.
Speaking of my game... also no promises. But I'd really like to release one. We'll see what happens. There's also a different kind of original project I recently returned to trying to make real, which could come early in the year, but who knows. As should be apparent, I'm working on a lot of different fronts here, so I frequently feel bad about neglecting such-and-such type of creative work, which sometimes means nothing actually gets done and released. Ultimately, though, it's probably better to follow what I most feel like doing, rather than force focus on one thing and end up not actually getting much done.
Which is to say: hoping to finish something in the new year!

March’s Featured Game: Abigail Fortune and the Dreams of Azure
DEVELOPER(S): Fusoloid ENGINE: RPG Maker MV GENRE: Adventure, RPG SUMMARY: Abigail Fortune's adventures continue in Paris! As she obtains information about a mysterious treasure called "Azure Dreams", the gentlewoman thief is joined by her old friend, Marguerite "Maria" Montblanc. Together the ladies must discover the true identity of the treasure, find out the truth behind the treasure's owner, and avoid falling permanently into the most wonderful dream...
Our Interview With The Dev Team Below The Cut!
Introduce yourself! I am Heidi K., also known as Fusoloid. I'm a Finnish university student, and I've been in the RPG Maker community since the early 2010's. I got much more active in following the community after I started developing my own games, however. I love art, studying cultures, and all in all, I'm here to be creative and have a good time!
What is your project about? What inspired you to create your game initially? *Fusoloid: The Abigail Fortune series is, essentially, about the eponymous gentlewoman thief and her many adventures. I was inspired to make a story about a thief after binge-watching the first Lupin III anime series in late 2014, and after playing the demo of an RPGM game called Pumpkin Panic! around the same time, I decided to make it a game series on RPG Maker.
How long did you work on your project? *Fusoloid: I've been working on the AF series as a whole since late 2014. Proper work on Dreams of Azure started in 2017, after the release of the first game in the series, The Scarlet Fairy. Of course, even before that, I had outlined the major plot points and many of the characters, and even made some character sketches, though most of my efforts were focused on The Scarlet Fairy until it was released.
Did any other games or media influence aspects of your project? *Fusoloid: Lupin III is the obvious biggest inspiration behind the series; major characters like Abigail, Marguerite and the Interpol duo of Cynthia and Neil were inspired by the major characters of Lupin III. Games like Persona 5, the Sly Cooper series and even the Uncharted series have inspired me in one way or another. Of course, I've been inspired by other pixel RPGs too, like The Witch's House, Dreaming Mary, Virgo VS the Zodiac and the LiEat series.
Have you come across any challenges during development? How have you overcome or worked around them? *Fusoloid: One thing I've had challenges with Dreams of Azure is the more complex battle system I want to implement. Sometimes effects or features I wanted to include in the battle system weren't possible to implement, either due to the restrictions of the engine/plugin, or the complexity of the coding needed for it. Currently I've changed things so that these effects work differently than what I initially intended, but in a similar fashion.
Did any aspects of your project change over time? How does your current project differ from your initial concept? *Fusoloid: The story has probably changed the most out of all other aspects! The initial story was set in France like the current one, but the characters and story progression were completely different. Some time during 2016, I realized that the story wouldn't work as an RPG-style game too well, so I rewrote it to what it is now. Of course, that original story idea isn't completely abandoned yet...
What was your team like at the beginning? How did people join the team? If you don’t have a team, do you wish you had one or do you prefer working alone? *Fusoloid: I've worked on the series mostly by myself, but I've had some help from a certain friend of mine. She did the playtesting for The Scarlet Fairy, and also proofread and illustrated The Scarlet Emperor spinoff novella for me. I don't have any regrets about working (mostly) alone on the series, but I sometimes think I should learn a bit more about how Javascript works... a bit.
What was the best part of developing the game? *Fusoloid: Writing the story and making the art! I love writing dialogue and just writing down ideas for interactions that could be either funny or entertaining to the player or myself. Making the various character portraits is something I enjoy most about making the game's art, and I love conveying the different characters' personalities with their expressions and reactions.
Do you find yourself playing other RPG Maker games to see what you can do with the engine, or do you prefer to do your own thing? *Fusoloid: I often play other RPGM games to become inspired or to find new ideas, often times for puzzles and aesthetic stuff. For example, I would play Pocket Mirror or Dreaming Mary to get ideas for the aesthetic of Dreams of Azure's main location, and then play games like Ib or The Witch's House for puzzle ideas. Of course, I don't want to directly rip off anything, and I like doing my own thing and putting in my own twists as well.
Which character in your game do you relate to the most and why? (Alternatively: Who is your favorite character and why?) *Fusoloid: While I do like all of my character in one way or another, my favorite overall character will probably always be Abigail. She's extremely fun to write, and it's interesting to write a character who disguises her true self under a multitude of different personas. However, at the same time, there's the same person at the core of every disguise, and I want to develop that core character with every new entry in the series. And also, I just love charming rogues with a heart of gold... ♥
Looking back now, is there anything that regret/wish you had done differently? *Fusoloid: There isn't anything I regret with The Dreams of Azure, but regarding my game development journey in general, I wish I had started with something small instead of jumping straight into a bigger project. The Scarlet Fairy feels really unpolished in retrospect, and had I known more about the engine beforehand, I think I could've probably created much more creative ways of progression, as well as more interesting puzzles.
Do you plan to explore the game’s universe and characters further in subsequent projects, or leave it as-is? *Fusoloid: Of course! The Abigail Fortune series will certainly continue after Dreams of Azure, and I already have a multitude of ideas on how the series will continue. AF3 will definitely come one day, but there will be a bunch more stuff coming out before that.
With your current project, what do you look most forward to upon/after release? *Fusoloid: The reaction from the fans! I love seeing how people talk about my stuff and what they liked and enjoyed about it. There's also just the incredibly satisfying feeling of being able to complete something and releasing it into the wild.
Is there something you’re afraid of concerning the development or the release of your game? *Fusoloid: The reaction from the fans, surprisingly. While I love seeing people enjoy my stuff, I'm also extremely terrified of releasing any big project due to my fear of being judged or unjustly critiqued. If it's something big and something I spent a lot of time on, having it be called bad or terrible would be the worst thing I could think of. I think this fear stems from years of bad experiences in my youth... I've done my best to work on this, of course, but I still notice myself getting very nervous.
Do you have any advice for upcoming devs? *Fusoloid: If you're thinking about getting into game developing, start from small projects. These projects don't have to be any longer than 5 minutes, as long as you finish them and learn new things about the engine you're using. Secondly, when you start your first bigger project, WRITE EVERYTHING DOWN. From puzzles to dialogue to how the story advances, write everything down on a document of some kind so you can easily go through the progression of the plot without suffering and having to come up with things on the fly as you're making the game. And thirdly, BACK UP YOUR PROJECT FILES! Save 'em on an external hard drive, send 'em to an online cloud, send 'em to a friend; anything goes as long as your hard work will be preserved in case of disaster!!
Question from last month's featured dev @doc-saturn: What's something you learned while making this game? Is there anything you're trying to learn how to do right now? *Fusoloid: Parallax mapping! I decided to try out parallax mapping for the first time for The Dreams of Azure, and it's a lot of fun! The maps look a lot better than in The Scarlet Fairy, and it's fun to think of set pieces and decorations for the maps. However, making changes into the maps after having completed them can be a bit of a hassle...
We mods would like to thank Fusoloid for agreeing to our interview! We believe that featuring the developer and their creative process is just as important as featuring the final product. Hopefully this Q&A segment has been an entertaining and insightful experience for everyone involved!
Remember to check out Abigail Fortune and the Dreams of Azureif you haven’t already! See you next month!

hi dilan, i want to start making instagram edit and i saw your instagram account with edits, loved all of them. i know you are a helpful person so may i ask guidance about how to start video editing? how did you start? which steps you took? any tutorials you'd recommend? thanks dilan.
hi there!! first of all, thank you so much for your compliment! i’ll try to write something for you under the cut, but since i’m so bad at explaining things feel free to message me again if you don’t understand/if you have other questions!
okay, first, you need to find a program to edit. most people on instagram use adobe after effects, and some use programs like sony vegas pro, videostar (i believe this one is for phone editors tho), final cut pro, etc etc.i started editing with wondershare filmora (it’s not a very good program for instagram editing since it doesn’t have many effects/the edits turn out to be way too simple), but it was because i found svp (sony vegas pro) too confusing at first and it helped me to warm up. you can do that too, or you can download sony vegas pro (or whichever program you wan’t! i don’t use after effects like most people since it still confuses me) right away & see if you can handle it! i know most people manage to figure that program out very soon unlike my experience, so it’s worth a shot.you usually download the programs for editing from youtube, most of the links are safe but still be careful! just type “program name + version download” to the search button. ( for example: sony vegas pro 14 download - also if you’ll download svp i recommend downloading 14/14+ versions of it since anything below 14 usually gives errors while trying out the effects )you also need to download plugins in order to get better effects/transitions. sapphire plugins and new blue fx are the most common ones and you really need to have the two of them for editing!! you can search them on youtube the same way you search the programs but try to find a video where it explains how to upload it since there are some important steps!you can get your clips from “logoless accounts” on twitter like @ downloadinhd (my fave), @ logolessdesires, etc. or if your video is not mp4 you can convert your videos yourself, HERE’S a video that explains how to do that, but i’ve never tried it so i’m not gonna be much help about that dfghgfthere are also lots of accounts on instagram that give download links for scene packs they put together, if you don’t want to download whole episodes. just search “scene pack” or “fandom name scene pack” on insta and they’ll pop up! (or you can just search “character name logoless” on youtube)okay so, the editing process: first, you need to practice a lot by simply putting clips together. (and by that i really mean A LOT, it took me 1-2 years to start making somewhat decent edits.) and then you gotta watch all the tutorial videos on youtube that you can find & practice them on your clips while watching them - at least that's how i learned!!! like, keep your editing program open, put your clips together and just start doing what the youtube tutorials tell you to do while watching it. but i also know there are small tutorials for beginners, like, they don't cover everything but depending on the program you use it teaches you very basic stuff, like cutting the clip.now i’ll link you some tutorials but they’re all for svp since it’s the program i use, you can just search the tutorial names on youtube & add the name of the program you’ll be using and i’m pretty sure the same stuff will pop up!here are some tutorials for beginners that i could find, they all explain pretty much the same thing but watching the same tutorials from different people really help as well: x, x, x.and here are some tutorials that explain basic effects/transitions/etc for after you get comfortable with your program: x, x, x, x.also these channels are very helpful: x, x.in short, you need to watch ALL the tutorials that you can find, and practice A LOT!also in case if you’ll be sharing your edits & use instagram as your platform, here are some small, short info:cc: coloring credit (to credit the account you took your coloring from - if you didn’t make it yourself)ac: audio credit (there are audio accounts on instagram, they edit songs a lot in order to make it easier for editors to follow the beat & stuff. if you took an audio from them you credit the acc)ib: inspired by (if your edit was inspired by another editor)rm: remake (if you remade an edit)oc: overlay credit (if you’re using an overlay someone made from scratch)i really really hope that this helps & that i covered everything but if anything seems too confusing lmk!!! <3
