Today I got my first (spam) comment accusing me of using Chat GPT to write a fanfic I've been posting:
I reported it, of course, but I've seen the same comments on other people's works. I'm also aware that a few people are using AI to write stories and post them on Ao3.
It's one thing to post a fic and say, "I wrote this using AI as an experiment and wondered what you think of it." If clearly marked as such, I have no problem with that kind of experiment. I don't even have a huge problem with someone using AI to "write" a first draft, if someone then puts in the work to turn it into their own story.
It's another thing if "writers" are doing this without disclosing the fact that they didn't do anything but think of a prompt.
I'm really not sure what will happen if this becomes common-- well, it's probably already happening.
I assure you that I write all my stories myself. Writing is part of who I am; I don't do it for hit count or kudos. I like to think I'm a fairly original writer, and recognize that my stories are inspired by many things. But writing a story inspired by a movie or a book I've read is not the same as AI scraping all my stories and producing a new "work" (ha, little actual work involved) meant to replicate my writing style.
Just wanted to throw this out there, remind people to mark these comments as spam. Not sure what else to do. (Just so glad I'm no longer teaching writing.)
Bethellium swag has arriiived. The timing was perfect because I did some reorganizing of one of my shelves the day before, which left me plenty of space to slot this into my collection.
I had to pay almost another $100 in customs because the import fees in this country are stupid, but whatevs, I knew it was going to happen.
The pins are gorgeous and also waaay bigger than I was expecting them to be. Really gotta finish building my pin board so I can display these properly.
The slipcase is very solid and so shiny.
Shiiinyyy.
Bethellium is by ABlueDeer. You can read it in webcomic form right here.
