hypothetically how would we feel about eichel to rags, Seth jones to Chicago and dougie Hamilton to oil country? ik it’s just noise rn but .......
ok here we go
this is interesting bc after the desk-job wipeout & coaching changes the rags just went through, the acquisition of eichel could make them a potentially tricky team to play against imo. they’d obviously have to give up their no. 15, maybe some prospects, and possibly ryan strome? i would think that the rags would hold on tight to lafreniere and kakko, all things considered, so i’m not entirely sure which prospects they’d part ways with tbh. but yeah. eichel (not considering his neck injury bc i really dk what’s going on there) is obviously an excellent player and the rangers aren’t gonna get him for free. but this would be interesting.
idk much about what’s going on with the oilers blue line except that klefbom is an issue rn and kulikov needs to sign or else edmonton is gonna have gaps. i think tyson barrie is gone and signing hamilton would be the right move for edmonton, but tbh, it would be the right move for pretty much any team lmao. if dougie hamilton wants to go to edmonton and they can afford it, nice. mcdavid and draisaitl would appreciate it greatly, i think.
ah. man. seth jones to chicago. seth jones’ season was pretty underwhelming to put it nicely, but like. it’s still seth jones? columbus fucking sucks so it could have been a result of bad conditions, which is what i think chicago is thinking. brent seabrook is retired, duncan keith is slowing down, adam boqvist is injured. someone on twitter mentioned giving up toews to ease the pressure of his contract, but i highly highly highly doubt that’s going to happen (mostly bc i can’t see anybody waiving a nmc to go to columbus, much less the 3x sc winner). i can see stan bowman giving up dach and a prospect in exchange for seth jones, which is dumb but it’s chicago so idc. alternatively, i can also see chicago giving up dylan strome, ian mitchell, and as many draft picks they can pull out of their ass to somehow weasel a deal with columbus. i think if this trade goes through the way i’m predicting, chicago gm is out of a job next season.

Well, I read some truly cracking books this year. Check out the list below! Full disclosure: I didn’t finish the BS Johnson biography (it’s very long!), the book of Will Oldham’s lyrics (I gave it to a friend which I am totally fine about!), the John Cheever short stories (there are about 500 in that edition!), the Beastie Boys book (I only just got it!) and Finnegans Wake (it’s not written in English!). But a good haul nevertheless. 2018 was the year in which I discovered the Backlisted podcast which I highly recommend. It’s inspiring, accessible, funny, and has introduced me to numerous life-changing books that I would never have heard about otherwise.

361: Terry Herbert - A Right Jolly Old Elf
Terry Herbert is most noted as a children's entertainer based in the U.K. but he is so much more than that. In this podcast, Terry talks about working with children and how close-up magic developed into what it is today in England. Pour yourself a cup of tea as you sit back and enjoy this podcast. It is full of great stories about some of the English magic legends and a "trip down memory lane".
Time stamps for this podcast:
00:06:15 - Terry talks about working with children and the how he came to star in one of the earliest "hit magic videos" on teaching how to entertain children. He also talks about the state of performing close-up in England today and what is in his current stand-up routine for adults. We chat about mentalism in the U.K. and it was interesting to find that Terry has done quite a bit of study on the history of "The Piddingtons" which he discusses here on the podcast. Terry talks about his friends Ken Brooke and tells stories about Tommy Cooper and other U.K. legends.
01:14:17 - Product review of "Horoscope" by Chris Congreave and Magic Tao - a volunteer reads their horoscope from a magazine page in your wallet that also has a playing card printed on the page which matches the card and astrological sign on the card also in your wallet.
01:22:16 - "Sparks" by JC James. Thirteen effects, routines and moves (mostly card sleights) that are mostly ideas that can be incorporated in your routines.

LOS HUMANOIDES YA HUELEN EL JAMÓN
Podcast: https://www.ivoox.com/44319164
Música: “The Robots”. Krafwerk.

Chicago Blackhawks Player Reviews: Nick Seeler
Tumblr media
2019-20 regular season Games played: 12 Points: 1 Goals: 0 Assists: 1 Plus/Minus: -8 PIM: 15 Game-Winning Goals: 0
Summary Nick Seeler played in six games when he was with the Minnesota Wild. On January 3, 2020, he was assigned to the Iowa Wild in the AHL for conditioning purposes; while in the AHL, he posted two assists in 6 games.
On February 2, 2020, Seeler was placed on waivers by the Minnesota Wild and claimed off them by the Blackhawks the next day.
He made his debut as a Blackhawk on February 9, 2020 in a 5-2 loss against the Winnipeg Jets where he got an assist in his 100th NHL career game.
On February 16, 2020, Seeler tallied a career-high of five hits in a 3-2 loss against the Winnipeg Jets. He skated in 12:23 of total ice time in a 2-1 overtime win against the Nashville Predators.
Thoughts from my point of view I thought that Nick Seeler had a pretty good game in his debut as a Blackhawk; he got an assist and showed off his physical presence when he got into a fight with Nathan Beaulieu.
However, after that, Seeler found himself as a healthy scratch which made it hard for me to get a good vibe on how well he fits in with the team. According to research, his possession numbers were not great; Coach Colliton tried to pair him up with Connor Murphy, but it didn't seem to work out.
Before the season was put on pause, Seeler was scratched in the Blackhawks' game against the San Jose Sharks and Nicolas Beaudin took his place in the lineup.
Seeler is signed with the team until the 2020-21 season. With the presence of up & coming young players such as Nicolas Beaudin, the recent signing of Ian Mitchell, and depending on whether Calvin de Haan or Brent Seabrook will be healthy enough to play again, I don't know where Seeler will fit into the lineup or what his future with the team will look like. Guess we'll have to wait and see what happens with him.

Ramblings: Jordan Staal Update; Coyotes Injuries; Deadline; Dahlin – February 19
Jordan Staal was back at practice for the Carolina Hurricanes, but this time he was in a regular jersey instead of a non-contact one. For a player returning from a concussion, this is a significant step. I imagine he’ll need a few more practices under his belt before he’s cleared, but it looks like he should return to the lineup sooner rather than later. That’s a huge boon for the Hurricanes in this playoff push, if not overly fantasy-relevant.
*
Pontus Aberg should be back for Minnesota’s game Tuesday night while Victor Rask will not be.
*
Boone Jenner returned for the Blue Jackets having missed their last couple games, skating in his usual spot with Nick Foligno and Josh Anderson. Anthony Duclair, meanwhile, was a healthy scratch:
Asked why Duclair is a healthy scratch again, Torts said: “bad listening skills.” Wouldn’t elaborate.
— Tom Reed (@treed1919) February 18, 2019
I know it’s the way of the world that a player at the end of the roster will get nitpicked to death while those at the top of the roster will not. However, it always struck me as a way to alienate a guy who could help a team win.
*
Corey Crawford is still skating with Chicago, which continues to be a good sign, but there’s still no firm update on a return.
*
We got an update from Craig Morgan at The Athletic about a few of the injured Arizona players:
To summarize:
Still not expecting Antti Raanta to return this year.
Christian Dvorak’s conditioning stint length is not determined, could be one game, could be several.
Michael Grabner is back skating with the team but in a non-contact jersey following his eye injury. There’s no firm timeline yet.
Jason Demers is also skating with the team in a non-contact jersey recovering from knee surgery. Don’t expect him back anytime soon but it certainly seems possible he’s back before the season is out.
The Coyotes will get some reinforcements in the next month but it’s a question of how many players and if it’s too late to push for the playoffs. It’s a wonder where this team would be with any injury luck.
*
After an unlucky start to the year, Vladimir Tarasenko is up to 0.46 goals/game (he was 0.46 over the previous three seasons) and 0.89 points/game (he was at 0.89 points/game over the previous three seasons). Hope you all bought low when we told you to.
*
Carolina is having a bit of fun with Don Cherry:
The jerk store called…we are now taking orders!

— Carolina Hurricanes (@NHLCanes) February 17, 2019
Heaven forbid players have fun playing a game.
*
Brent Seabrook was scratched just before warmups for the Blackhawks with an abdominal strain. When there is a timeline for his return, we will pass it along.
*
Colorado has seen their power play go cold of late so Nathan MacKinnon was dropped to the second power play unit. They also split their top line across their top three lines. I'm as confused as you are.
*
Victor Hedman left Monday night’s game at the end of the first period and did not return. Though Jon Cooper wouldn’t elaborate much further, he said he didn’t expect it to be serious.
*
We are less than a week away from the trade deadline, typically one of the busiest times of the year for fantasy owners outside of draft week. Just a reminder that we’ll have you completely covered here at Dobber Hockey. Any trade of significance will be broken down here by either myself, Ian, Cam, or Dobber himself. Whenever fantasy owners see a trade go down, they should head over here within the next few hours to get a breakdown of what that means for them and their fantasy leagues.
*
While on the topic of trade deadlines, we need to get something out in the open: a lot of what happens between now and the end of the season is driven by luck, and that goes for both teams and individual players. With about one quarter of a season left, just think of all the quirky things we’ve seen this season alone in quarter segments:
Through the season’s first 21 games, Buffalo had one fewer point than Tampa Bay, The Rangers had one fewer point than the Flames, and the Blues were 30th in the league.
In that same span of games, Matthew Tkachuk had as many points as Nikita Kucherov, Max Domi had as many points as Johnny Gaudreau, and Pekka Rinne led all goalies in save percentage at .944 (he’s been a .901 since).
In the next 20 or so games, Jonathan Huberdeau put up as many points as Sidney Crosby and Sean Monahan, Gaudreau led the league in goals (what?!), Vegas accumulated the most points in the league while Buffalo, previously fourth, fell to 22nd in the league. The Rangers went from accumulating one fewer point than Tampa Bay through the first ~21 games to accumulating 20 fewer points than Tampa Bay over the next ~21 games.
Those are a handful of extreme examples, but I think fantasy owners will get the general idea. We can talk about how Player X is a good fit, or Player Y will get better line mates, or Team Z is suddenly better defensively because of an acquisition, but the truth is we’re at the mercy of the hockey gods (and ensuing puck luck) a lot more than we’d care to admit.
It’s not to absolve everyone of their sins in decision making. There are still optimal decisions to be made that can put a fantasy roster in the best position to succeed. That does not guarantee success, or even make it likely. Just something to keep in mind if Matt Duchene gets traded to Winnipeg and puts up 11 points over the balance of the season.

On the topic of luck, I wanted to check in with the best ball league over at Fantrax that Dobber, Cam Metz, myself, and others from around the industry took part. For those unfamiliar, best ball leagues are draft-only. That means you draft your team and leave it, with no trades or free agency. Your best scores from a pre-determined number of players – your best 6 out of 10 forwards, 3 of out of 6 defencemen, and 2 out of 4 goalies or whatever – determine your overall score.
In these types of leagues, it can be helpful to stack and try to hit a line that explodes for the year. I did exactly that by drafting Sean Monahan, Johnny Gaudreau, and Mark Giordano. That worked out well! However, injuries have gotten the better of me, having lost John Klingberg for six weeks, James van Riemsdyk for six weeks, Oscar Klefbom for nearly two months, Justin Schultz for over half the year, and Taylor Hall still hasn’t returned to the lineup, having missed eight weeks already. That’s two of my top three defencemen (and a potential top-5 blue liner) plus my first round pick with significant injuries. Needless to say, I’m nowhere near the top (though I’m second in points/game, I’m last in games played because of the injuries). Cam Metz can still win the title though and has drafted a solid squad.
That’s just a long lament to show that even if your players perform that you hoped they would (and I do think I drafted a very good team, as evidenced by being second in points/game), there’s still the injury factor that can crop up at a moment’s notice. Not only do fantasy owners need puck luck, they need injury luck. Fantasy hockey amounts to a roulette wheel sometimes.

Dobber released a couple of his rankings last week but the one I want to focus on is his top-100 keeper defencemen list. Namely, one defenceman on the list, coming in at number 20: Rasmus Dahlin.
Before the season, I was adamant that Dahlin would not be worth his ADP in standard Yahoo! leagues (you can read my stuff from the offseason here, here, and here. That’s not all of it, but it’s a start). He’s already surpassed my projections but whether he lives up to his ADP remains to be seen. All the same, I wanted to say this: his rookie season has been exceptional.
In the history of the NHL, Dahlin is one of three defencemen to average 0.55 points per game in their rookie season, the other two being Bobby Orr and Phil Housley. Not that he’s guaranteed to maintain that mark over the balance of the season, but the fact he’s at that point when we’re a week away from the trade deadline speaks volumes of his talent.
This production isn’t all smoke and mirrors, either. In cases like this, we’d often be concerned with a sky-high individual points percentage at five-on-five (he’s under 40 percent personally which is kind of high but still outside the top-40 defencemen), a sky-high on-ice shooting percentage (he’s at 8.7 percent, which doesn’t even lead the Sabres and is outside the top-60 league-wide), or a high secondary assist rate (that is high, by the way, tied for 10th across the league). While there is a bit of a concern of a slowdown because of the secondary assist rate, the additional power play time he’s seen recently can make up for that.
Under the hood, he’s driving offence at a considerably higher rate than his teammates on the blue line, and at a comparable rate league-wide to other dynamos like Morgan Rielly and Mark Giordano. He can find his teammates regularly in shooting positions and can get out of his zone and into the other zone with control as often as almost anyone (from CJ Turtoro’s viz):
His performance in the defensive zone still needs work but, I mean, come on, the kid is 18. We can cut him a little slack!
All this is to say that Dahlin is performing every bit the future superstar he has been. Though that may not be enough to pay off his preseason ADP, this is about as good as we could possibly hope for. I can’t possibly imagine he can be had for cheap in dynasty/keeper leagues, but I would be checking with the Dahlin owner in your league. If he can be a top-30 fantasy defenceman as an 18-year old and do it without being driven by luck, we’re only a couple years away from a top-5 defenceman.

Centenery commemorations held across the Costa Blanca
On Sunday, the National Service of Remembrance was held at the Cenotaph on Whitehall, London, to commemorate the contribution of British and Commonwealth military and civilian servicemen and women involved in the two World Wars and later conflicts. This year, with Remembrance Sunday falling on the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War, the event held a special significance, no more so than here in Spain where services were held across the entire length of the Costa Blanca. The first local event took place on Friday where children, staff and parents, from the Phoenix International School in San Miguel de Salinas, joined with members of The Orihuela Costa Branch of the Royal British Legion to pay their respects to the fallen. Accompanied by The RBL Band the children sang a selection of hymns and songs from the period, after which they read poems written by and dedicated to First World War veterans, as they took part in an outdoor service led by the RBL Chaplain of Spain North, Pastor Keith Brown. On Saturday the commemoration moved to Torrevieja where the local RBL Branch held ceremony in a packed La Siesta Church, into which the RBL standards, as well as those of RAFA, RNA and RMA, were escorted by the splendid Torrevieja Pipes and Drums. As they formed up in front of the altar the service got underway with a prayer from Father Richard Seabrook, officiating chaplain, followed by the RBL Exhortation and then, most significantly of all, the Last Post played by Ian Gibson of the JB Brass Band. The music was provided by the Royal British Band in Spain led by David Last and the Crescendo International choir. In his sermon, Fr Richard spoke of his connection to WW1 through his grandfather who served in the trenches in France before moving to Palestine as he proudly held aloft his campaign medals and photographs The lessons were read in English and Spanish by branch President Gill Burden and Debbie Winston after which a poem to the fallen was read by Carol Stockwell. Andy Kirkbride sang ‘Bring him home’ after which the standards, followed by dignitaries and wreath holders, moved to the cenotaph located in the church garden area, where the wreath laying ceremony was led by the Branch President. A carvery lunch followed for members of the RBL and their guests at the Club in Quesada. Sunday morning’s focus of Remembrance was at the Capilla de las Mil Palmeras where the Orihuela Costa and District Branch held its annual service led by Pastor Keith Brown, with the event being relayed both on a large screen and by sound to a congregation of over 600 people. Guests included the British Vice Consul Sara Munsterhjelm and the Chairman of the RBL Spain District North, Don Cubbon. They were joined by the mayor of Pilar de la Horadada, Ignacio Ramos, and five of his councillors along with Orihuela councillors Sofia Alvarez and Luisa Boné. Gerald Turner of Blevins Franks, who sponsored the Order of Service, represented the business community, along with Anne Martinez Hoth, of Quiron Salud Hospital. Pastor Keith Brown was assisted by lay preacher Stephen Treseder while lessons and readings were delivered by Don Ignacia and Dña Sofia, along with Sara Munsterhjelm, Gerald Turner, Branch Vice chairman Walter Shatford and Councillor Pilar Samper. There was also a moving performance of ‘Bring him home’ faultlessly sung by RBL supporter Stevie Spit. The RBL Band in Spain again provided the musical accompaniment to the hymns led by their MD David Last. Prior to the service, the RBL standards, as well as those of RAFA, RNA and RMA, were led to the church by the splendid Torrevieja Pipes and Drums. As the service got underway the congregation was addressed by Mayor Ignacio Ramos. He said how pleased he was to have such a close relationship with the RBL and how much he, and the people of Spain, shared with their thoughts and sentiments at this time. Pastor Keith Brown responded by thanking the people of Pilar de la Horadada and Orihuela for the wonderful support they have provided in the holding this event. The last post was performed by the Costa Blanca’s premier bugler Ian Gibson while the lament, ‘Lock Rannoch’, was played by the Torrevieja Pipes and Drums. Stevie Spit then brought the house down with his solo of the classic Remembrance melody from Les Miserables “Bring him home.” Two local schoolchildren, Angelina and Leticia, carried the peace candle to the altar, reciting a short prayer after they had done so which was also warmly received. The service was concluded with the National Anthems of Spain and the United Kingdom after which the ceremony moved out to the brand new Garden of Remembrance, completely refurbished by the Ayuntamiento of Pilar de la Horadada, where dignitaries and guests laid their wreathes in remembrance after which branch and members of the public added their own poppy crosses in memory of family members and lost friends. Flanked by a large number of the general public the Pipes and Drums then led over a hundred and fifty members of the congregation from the church to the Mil Palmeras Olympia Restaurant where members and guests  enjoyed a delightful buffet lunch. Gran Alacant and La Marina Branch of the Royal British Legion, in association with the Ayuntamiento of San Fulgencio, also held their annual Service of Remembrance on Sunday while The Royal British Legion in Hondon Valley had conducted theirs a day earlier in Hondon de las Frailes It was on to Campoverde for the final event of the weekend where, on Sunday evening, where once again the event was well supported and following the last post, reveille and the laying of a wreath, many of the congregation stayed behind to enjoy refreshments in the church garden. The National Service of Remembrance was originally conceived as a commemoration of the war dead of the First World War but after the Second World War the scope of the ceremony was extended to focus on the nation’s dead of both World Wars, and in 1980 it was widened once again to extend the remembrance to all who have suffered and died in conflict in the service of their country and all those who mourn. But of course Remembrance is not just about those who fought in the last two World Wars, it is also held in respect of those involved in the many other conflicts worldwide and those who are still fighting for peace and freedom even now. It is also about all of us learning from the past and resolving to make the world a better place in which to live, and with so many more children becoming involved in the event here on the Costa Blanca we are now rather more assured that the future of remembrance is in increasingly safe hands.

AC Invacar Model 70 review: ‘Terrifying but exhilarating’ | Martin Love
The ice-blue three-wheel invalid carriage that was such a feature of the 1970s rides again in a heroic adventure
AC Invacar Model 70 Year 1972 Engine 493cc Top speed 82mph (surely not!)
Having dragged this 1972 Invacar from a boggy field in Sussex, Ian Seabrook has decided to prepare the ungainly ice-blue three-wheeler for probably the biggest adventure of its life. He’s going to drive it 170 miles from his home in Wales to the brilliantly eccentric Festival of the Unexceptional in Buckinghamshire.
