by Marlon West (FB: marlon.west1 Twitter: @marlonw IG: stlmarlonwest Spotify: marlonwest)
When De La Soul member David Jude Jolicoeur (aka Trugoy the Dove) unexpectedly passed away in February, anyone seeking to revisit the group’s best-known works would have come away baffled and empty-handed.
The scores of uncleared samples that defined De La Soul’s classic records made for a legal minefield…

This one goes out to anyone who's listened to this song and thought... no... the fidelity is too high. I want it to sound like it starts on a dinky little record player in the corner of the room, slowly builds, then leaves the room and bounces off the walls of a large cavernous indoor town square.

Song of the Day: April 28, 2024
Ibrahim Maalouf and Melody Gardot: J’attendrei
J’attendrei on Amazon Prime Music
Sunday is jazz day. A great friend of mine recently introduced me to the music of Melody Gardot. She is a jazz vocalist who focuses on standards and torch songs. She is from New Jersey, but much of her work is presented in French. She experienced a serious head injury and turned to music therapy for her recovery,…

Episode 608: Ibrahim Maalouf
For some musicians, touring is a strange dichotomy. In him home of France, Ibrahim Maalouf plays stadiums.
It’s a different vibe here in the States where he finds himself playing to a few hundred, in spite of last year’s Grammy nomination.
The Lebanon-born musician was up for the award courtesy of Queen of Sheba, his reent collaboration with Angélique Kidjo.
Maalouf joins us to discuss how he came to love the trumpet.

TBC 30 Day Challenge - Day 16
Favourite background music
This wasn't an easy decision. There are so many bits of music that are so deeply associated to the show for me now. I'll never be able to hear the reset music without feeling emotional. I'll always sing "You Should See Me in a Crown" with Orpheus' tune.
But if I could only pick one, it would be the tango. That's Ibrahim Maalouf - Will Soon Be a Woman. The soft, beautiful intro, the way it grows into a dazzling tango, the way we start so intimately in the office, dancing slowly on the carpet, and it grows into one of the most spectacular numbers of the show.
