Cover of the day: Day 11: Mint Postcard from Erevan, Armenian SSR
Hello Everyone! I'm posting this about 12 hours later than usual, well thats because I was playing 3D Pinball Space Cadet for 4 hours until I passed out, and Unconscious people can't write Tumblr posts (Yet). So sorry for the delay.
Also I'll post some 3d pinball space cadet gamin' footage later.
---
Today's cover was sent... never, this is a mint postcard (Didn't I do this bit before? Oh yeah on day 8). Well Its from 1975, the 27th of May to be specific, But it was purchased in June 1978.
Let me first tell you how I acquired this postcard. I was in a thrift store, well the only thrift store in a 50 Kilometre radius (That's the bad thing about living in a tiny little baby country) and in the corner I saw a large box, that piqued my curiosity so I looked inside. The box was full of many envelopes; each filled with many mint, unsent postcards, and every single envelope labeled with a location and a date. My guess is that someone bought a few postcards everywhere they went, there were ones from Turkey, Bulgaria, Poland, France, ETC. Of course, my interest being The Soviet Union, I eventually found a few interesting things, Two envelopes of Postcards one from Yerevan/Erevan and one from Tblisi, and three sets from The museum of National Architecture in Ukraine, The Uzbek city of Bukhara, and one from Moscow. Here's the Envelope from Erevan (Erevan is the Slovenian spelling of Yerevan, Erevan was also used as the English spelling until the 1980s), This envelope contains about 10 postcards
Tumblr media
The one I picked from this envelope features Zvartnots airport in Yerevan (Though Its called Zapadnyy airport on the postcard for some reason?)
Tumblr media
The plane featured here is an Ilyushin Il-18 airplane with 1960s-Early 70s livery (Fitting with the date of issue of 1975)
Here's a late 1960s photo of the same plane with the same livery
Tumblr media
Like the Tupolev Tu-154 from day 8, the only airline with the Il-18 in passenger service is North Korea's state airline- Air Koryo!
Here's the only Il-18 still in passenger service!
Tumblr media
Looks a bit depressing, doesn't it?
Oh yeah I still have to show you the back of the postcard. Here it is I guess:
Tumblr media
Good bye

More details about the ANCE Johann Sebastian Mastropiero, the dear ship of our heroes Beto, Ragua, Suisini and probably some more.
An HA-116 "Barrilete" class ship. Built by Haedo Astronáutica as a strategic multi-role transport, with production massively ramped during the Machine War to supply remote outposts. Widely licensed and appreciated by its rugged nature, there are thousands still on service, many on civilian hands.
Looks like a mix of the Space Shuttle and the Ilyushin Il-76, but in a retro space opera style (sleek yet all "burned" from lots and lots of atmospheric reentries). The size is about of a C-17 Globemaster, with some more crew space.
The engines are fusion rockets working on as of-yet undiscovered tech, but commonplace by the future of the setting (not more complex than modern jet engines). Once in space, to enter FTL, it docks with a drive ring in orbit (common for this kind of ships)
Full travel time for a standard mission, is about 3-5 days until you need refuelling. It all depends of course where and how you want to go but that's about the max without dangerously stretching it.
It takes off and lands from any kind of airfield, even unpaved ones; in fact, this is what the ship was designed for, to deliver any kind of cargo to any place, no matter how remote. As long as there's some kind of flatish surface, it can land and take off.
The interior is very, very cramped. It has 4 cabins for crew and 8 for passengers (with 16 seats/beds), but they are standard "pod" designs, roughy 2x2m; you get your own pod with two acceleration couches, a TV, a hilariously tiny bathroom, and that's it. Think a capsule hotel with some more space. It's not for luxury travel.
No artificial gravity either. Travel is relatively short so you don't have to worry that much about muscle degradation, but there might be some gym equipment stored around.
The cargo bay is the most spacious place, because that's what's the ship's for. It can fit up to 6 shipping containers or equivalent cargo (depends what's in).
When it's empty, it's fun to hang out there (not like there's much space in the ship)
Like I said, outside it's decorated in a fileteado style, with celeste, silver and red, the colors of the Esteloplatense Confederation. It might have some details reminding old Rioplatenses buses and trucks..
Inside, of course, it feels cozy. Beto, of course, has some malvón flowers, a estamptita of San Carlos de los Astronautas, a Mary statue and a crucifix (everything helps) and a flag of River Plate on the cockpit.
Beto's pod cabin is full of whatever memories and stuff he finds on his travels (all safely stored of course). Suisini's pod is basically a sun-room with crystals for focusing different wavelenghts of light, it kinda has a hippie vibe. Ragua has a bathtub, and she finds it depressingly tacky compared to what she's used to.
Now as for its service story (no dates, assumes all this happens around 600-700 years After Gagarin):
Built for the Machine War, served for years (on the command of Beto's grandfather) on many supply missions in the counterspin front, mostly supplying bases and building sensor outposts, but also in a few hostile landing missions.
Returned to the Confederation Astral Prefecture, served as a reserve transport ship for a few more years.
Refitted for civilian service and sold in an auction of surplus military equipment
Bought by a group of former pilots, including Beto's grandpa, who started a transport cooperative. Refitted and put to work once again.
After a crash, it languishes in an hangar at Aerolito for a few more years.
Beto takes a loan, repairs it and rejoin the coop, and it flies once again.
It should be roughly 40-50 years old. And still flying...

Ilyushin Il-18 Interflug
Registration: DDR-STE Type: Il-18V Engines: 4 × AI-20 Serial Number: 051-01 First flight: 1962
Interflug GmbH was the national airline of East Germany from 1963 to 1990. Based in East Berlin, it operated scheduled and chartered flights to European and intercontinental destinations out of its hub at Berlin Schönefeld Airport, focusing on Comecon countries. Following the German reunification, the company was liquidated. Over the 1960s, the airline saw a significant growth, concerning both its route network and fleet of Soviet-built aircraft. The Ilyushin Il-18 turboprop airliner became the backbone of Interflug's short haul flights during that period. Now Ilyushin Il-18 DDR-STE is an exhibit of the Hans Grade Museum, Borkheide, Germany.

Russia inaugurates new airfield in Antarctica
New place was named Zenit.
Fernando Valduga By Fernando Valduga 11/15/2022 - 21:39 in Air Cargo, Commercial
The new Russian airfield for heavy transport aircraft at the Progress station in Antarctica was inaugurated on November 7 by experts from the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute and Zapsibgazprom. He was named Zenit in honor of the famous St. Petersburg football club.
Tumblr media
"The severe weather allows us to carry out seasonal work in Antarctica for only a few months. With the opening of a new track, this period increases significantly, which means that the scale of our activities on the continent is expanding. This is an important event that will radically change the work of the Russian Antarctic expedition. For polar explorers, the new airfield is another opportunity to communicate with the house, with the hometown. Our institute is based in St. Petersburg, so our experts have made a collegial decision to name a new location in Antarctica in honor of the St. Petersburg Zenit football club. We are already discussing joint actions with the club and, perhaps, in the near future, we will please fans with interesting events," said Alexander Makarov, director of the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute (AARI).
Tumblr media
Russian research station in Progress.
"Football is a team sport in which the well-ordinated work of all participants in the game is very important. In this case, the teams of football players and polar explorers are very similar. After all, in the big game, as well as in works in high latitudes, in difficult and sometimes dangerous conditions, mutual support and team spirit are important. It is a great honor for us that the new airfield in Antarctica has the name of the club. We plan to transfer the Zenit flag and other attributes of the team to be placed in the territory of the Progress station," said Alexander Medvedev, CEO of the Zenit football club.
The first flight of a Volga-Dnepr Airlines IL-76TD-90VD aircraft on the Cape Town - Progress route took place on November 7, 2022. The plane covered a distance of 5,300 km in 6.5 hours and delivered 6.6 tons of cargo to Antarctica and 82 participants in the 68th Russian Antarctic Expedition - AARI scientists and Zapsibgazprom experts.
A second supply flight with the Ilyushin aircraft with the Russian registration RA-76503 took place on November 12. A total of four flights are planned from Cape Town in the current season.
Tumblr media
The Russian Antarctic Expedition (RAE) is a continuous expedition of the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute in Antarctica. Winters and seasonal detachments that work in the Antarctic summer participate in the RAE. In Antarctica, Institute employees constantly monitor changes in the natural environment in 5 seasons throughout the year: Novolazarevskaya, Bellingshausen, Mirny, Progress and East. In the summer, the work is carried out at the seasonal field bases Molodezhnaya, Druzhnaya-4, Bangera Oasis, Russian and Leningradskaya.
Tumblr media
Progress is the latest Russian station in Antarctica: it is located in the Larsemann Hills, on the coast of Ingrid Christensen. It was created in 1988 and houses 77 employees in the Antarctic summer from October to February, and 20 in the winter.
Tumblr media
Ice rinks are built in Antarctica in areas without effective snowfall. As ice does not contain air bubbles there, it is particularly resistant to transport and also allows the landing of heavy cargo planes. As the runways are snow-free, planes do not need skis, but can land with conventional wheels. However, due to the low braking coefficient of the ice, a special landing technology is necessary: aircraft brake after landing exclusively by reversing in thrust instead of the brakes on the wheels.
Tumblr media
The Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute is the world's leading scientific center for the study of the Earth's polar regions. The Institute carries out the entire cycle of works in high latitudes in the interest of the Russian Federation and commercial companies. The scientific units of the Institute are involved in fundamental and applied research of the climate, processes in the atmosphere, near space, marine environment and ice cover.
Tumblr media
AARI is a state operator to organize and implement activities in the Arctic and Antarctica. By Order of the Government of the Russian Federation, the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute was appointed state operator for the organization and implementation of activities in Antarctica in the interest of the Russian Federation. For 100 years of scientific work, the Institute's experts organized about 1,100 expeditions to the Arctic and Antarctica. In 1994, the Institute received the status of state scientific center of the Russian Federation.

so i hope you got to follow my series of blogs about putin's address to nation. i wish i can claim credit to have nearly predicted his address but putin is quite.... how should i put it? limited by his options.
based on nbc version of the address (see the link in the thread), 1st 1/2 of his address is resolute. 2nd 1/2 is that he is fragile and benevolent. in hindsight, i should've tried to write out a version of what his address could be like. but i didn't and so the best i can offer now is a simple breakdown below:
resolute (remind the nation that he is still in control because he was not)
as continuation of being resolute, putin starts with the message of unity (this part is very old school communist/kgb stuff) from the govt to the citizens. and this is the part when you should bust out laughing because anyone with a jet got in the air and the rest were just wondering who the fuck is running the country? prigozhin???
at 0:54, putin's speech writer ran out of bullshit on "unity" and just threw in another bullshit to sound resolute which is that putin knew and had a plan from the beginning.
Tumblr media
putin was just giving his pilots a drill, a rehearsal. his plane and those helicopters...
4. and then the writer got carried away, and added that not only putin was ready, prigozhin knew that the mutiny was going to fail big time. and so nobody was ever in danger. NONE. (excluding 6 helicopters-1 mig35, 1 ka52, 3 mi8, 1 mi8 transport, Ilyushin Il-22M coot aerial command post & radio-relay plane).
5. but despite of sounding contradictory, prigozhin mutiny is still very dangerous! so starting from 1:23, putin dragged in the great threat from outside of russia and prigozhin's mutiny would jeopardize russia's battle against the entire outside world.
6. then it became nonsense because russia invaded ukraine and yet putin talks like the russian soldiers at the front won't give an inch and start to blame everything on ukraine and other countries for manipulating the mutiny.
7. after a couple of minutes of saying wagners were used then at 3:21, putin starts to soften up and start the 2nd act-fragile
8. putin essentially offers olive branch to the traitors the following options: 1) sign contract to join military. 2) go home. or 3) go to belarus. SO, I AM STILL RIGHT! BECOME A WAGNER NOW AND YOU CAN GO HOME OR GO BELARUS!!! you have to be a dumb mother fucker fighting at the frontline getting paid nothing, fighting with shit weapons, eating expired foods, and AT ONE TIME, GETTING SHOT AT BY THE WAGNERS FROM BEHIND, and them mother fuckers get to go home or go belarus now!
lol, this is a cluster fuck for russian soldiers. those who joined mutiny get to go free or, who knows, maybe have another showdown to overthrow putin, but those at the front, they just realized that THERE'S NO REINFORCEMENTS, NO ROTATIONS!!!
in case you got lost in my blogs, and you could not find the nbc version of putin's address to nation. below is the video.

US 'Doomsday Plane' Capable of Ordering World-Ending Nuclear Strikes Spotted in Europe
Tumblr media
The US and Russia are the only two countries in the world possessing ‘doomsday planes’ – a type of airborne command post designed to launch nuclear strikes and survive an enemy nuclear attack. The terrifying aircraft were created during the Cold War, but have gained new relevance amid the ongoing NATO-Russia proxy conflict in Ukraine.
United States European Command (EUCOM), the Stuttgart, Germany-based combatant command responsible for US military operations in and around Europe, Turkey and Russia, has tweeted a photo of a US Navy E-6B Mercury airborne command post and communications relay plane which recently landed in Iceland.
“A US Navy E-6B Mercury assigned to United States Strategic Command Wing One arrived in Iceland recently, while conducting operations in the EU European Command area of responsibility,” the EUCOM’s account tweeted.
Tumblr media
Russian Air Force Il-80 Maxdome, “Doomsday Plane”
Tumblr media
The plane’s crew was said to have met with Carrin Patman, the US ambassador to Iceland, as well as unnamed “other diplomatic and military leaders.”
Wing One is the US Navy’s nuclear command and control wing. Based out of the Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma, the unit’s primary mission consists of receiving, verifying and retransmitting “Emergency Action Messages (EAMs) to US strategic forces.” In Pentagon jargon, EAMs are messages directing US nuclear forces to launch strikes against enemy targets in conditions of nuclear war. In addition to its ability to deliver launch orders to ballistic missile submarines, the planes can remotely order ground-based operators of Minuteman intercontinental ballistic missile silos to launch their payloads.
Pentagon planners have also highlighted the EAM network for possible use in the execution of its ‘Prompt Global Strike’ plans as well. The latter is an ambitious (but highly dangerous) Pentagon initiative cooked up during the Bush II administration envisioning the disarmament of a nuclear-armed adversary and the ‘decapitation’ of its political and military leadership through the massed launch of conventional ballistic and cruise missiles. Russia responded to PGS through the creation of new advanced hypersonic missiles and other weaponry to convince the Pentagon that any attempt to “declaw” Russia’s strategic arsenal would result in “unacceptable” losses – including the possible destruction of American cities.
The US Navy has 16 E-6 Mercury aircraft in its inventory, plus four older Boeing E-4 ‘Nightwatch’ Advanced Airborne Command Post (AACP) planes.
Russia is the only other country in the world operating ‘doomsday planes,’ with its inventory consisting of three Ilyushin Il-80 (NATO reporting name ‘Maxdome’) airborne command and control aircraft built in the 1980s.
The US has deployed its doomsday plane to Europe in the past. Last March, an E4-B Nightwatch was transferred from Edwards Air Force Base in California to RAF Midenhall in the UK as part of a fleet of aircraft that accompanied President Biden during last year’s emergency NATO summit and meetings with European officials.

On Thursday, April 21, two Swedish JAS39 Gripen fighters and two Danish F-16s followed a Russian Ilyushin Il-20 Coot-A military reconnaissance aircraft over the Baltic Sea. It is the first time that a synchronized effort has been made in this way.
Throughout the operation, the Swedish and Danish air forces were under their own national management.
"This synchronized effort is proof of our close and good cooperation with the Danish air force. Together, we take responsibility for protecting the airspace over the Baltic Sea through our respective incident preparedness units," said Swedish Air Force Deputy Chief Tommy Petersson.

Shortly after 1 p.m. on Thursday, Swedish and Danish warplanes found the Russian military reconnaissance plane, heading west, in the area between Sweden and the regions of Zealand and Bornholm in Denmark.
“We see Russian military aircraft patrolling the Baltic Sea at regular intervals, so sending our Swedish incident report is a routine mission for us. It's part of our active defense," says Tommy Petersson.
After following the route of the Russian aircraft for some time, the fighters returned to their respective bases.
The Ilyushin Il-20M is a Russian military reconnaissance aircraft designed and built by the Ilyushin Aviation Complex, mainly used for electronic intelligence collection and surveillance missions. It is equipped with a range of advanced sensors and communication systems, including radar, electronic surveillance equipment and optical and infrared sensors.
