Hi ! Just wrote this last night at 2 AM, so please forgive me if it's not any good. Disclaimer : I do own not the characters, nor the original storyline. Thank you for reading ! :-) This is my own take on what happened in Bracciano at the end of season 2, episode 7. Martino barely has the time to brush his teeth before Niccolò shows up at the door, and he has to remind himself how to breathe properly. ------------------------------------------- The boys just left and Martino can’t freakin’ believe it. Before his nerves get the best of him, he actually texts the address of Gio’s cabin to Niccolò, and gets up from the couch. He’s shaking with nerves, and his legs are restless. He needs to brush his teeth, clean up the mess, get the fire going because it’s actually almost extinct in the fireplace, and most importantly, he needs to look good for when Nico gets here. Niccolò. Here, in Bracciano.
Martino gets into the bathroom and brushes his teeth, a little too impatiently, trying to focus on one thought at a time. Earlier, he sent that fateful message to Niccolò and hoped for the best. But upon seeing the hours pass by and still no answer, he felt like giving up. But Niccolò didn’t give up, on the contrary. He probably weighed out the pros and cons, and still decided to get to Bracciano, to Martino. Marti still couldn’t believe it. How did Niccolò manage to choose him over Maddalena ? How can someone actually choose him over their long-time girlfriend ? He’s stopped in his thoughts by looking up at the mirror, and winces. Wow, his hair is a mess. He tries to comb it with his fingers, and his heart skips a beat when he hears the unmistakable sound of a car door opening and closing just outside the cabin.
Dammit, Niccolò’s here, and Martino is almost high on the anticipation. He’s also nervous as fuck, but he’s willing to put that aside for now. He hasn’t seen Niccolò in a while now, and just the thought of seeing the dark-haired boy he likes so much actually makes him giddy. He walks down the hallway, to face the glass door, and his heart stops when he sees Niccolò smiling up at him. Martino’s all kind of impatient at this point, but he takes his time, opening the door and greeting Niccolò, who looks around, a puzzled look on his face.
“Where are your friends ?” Marti recalls with a rush of gratitude Gio getting up from his chair, and saying that they’re leaving and that Martino should tell Nico to come here. “They went out”, he says, and they both understand what he’s not saying out loud.
We’re alone for two hours, Martino thinks, and he almost shivers. Two hours alone with Niccolò, no risk of getting interrupted whatsoever. It makes his head spin, and before he even realizes it, he closes the gap between them and kisses Nico. Finally, he thinks, and he smiles to himself.
They take their time. Niccolò kisses him sweet, gently, softly, and Marti moans into the kiss, before slipping his tongue between their open lips. Nico makes sounds that Marti likes, so so much. He feels the heat between them, and flushes darkly as he leads them in the hallway towards the bedroom. God, Niccolò gasps into their kiss, and Marti’s head is swimming. He can feel the heat coursing through his veins like lava, and takes a deep breath when they break from the kiss, Niccolò removing his scarf and sweater. Marti smiles, and wants to ruffle his hair, which is spiking every which way. God, he’s beautiful, with those green eyes and flush cheeks, lips red from all the kissing, and that smile that could definitely compete with the sun. Marti’s train of thought is stopped abruptly when Nico removes his shirt, and he closes his eyes, inhaling deeply through his nose. Wow, how is it possible that seeing someone shirtless could affects him this much ?
He barely has the time to think about it, and removes his own shirt. Niccolò presses kisses to his heart and neck, and Martino has to remind himself to breathe. He definitely feels the heat pooling south, and he has to bit back a moan when Nico flushes his hips against his. The contact of his skin against Marti’s makes his blood sing, and he closes his eyes. His breath catches in his throat. His senses are overstimulated in the best way possible, and he has to bite his lower lip, drowning in his own pleasure. Nico presses kisses onto his chest, over his nipples, and Marti gasps, brain short-circuiting in an instant and blood going straight to his dick. “Nì….” He opens his eyes to see that Niccolò is kneeling in front of him, tugging at his jeans. Martino can’t escape the low moan coming out of his lips. This boy is going to be the death of him, he thinks, right before Nico removes his owns jeans and smiles up at him. Eyes staring into his, Niccolò’s fingers skim over the waistband of his boxers, and Martino’s knees turn to jelly. His breath is coming out shallow, and he nods, understanding that Nico’s waiting for him to give him the green light. When his fingers wrap around his dick, Martino bites forcefully the inside of his cheeks and he closes his eyes, flashes of pure want running through him like fire.
He has had dreams about this, many of them, but nothing ever came close to what’s happening right now. Pleasure sparks across his skin, at the base of his spine, and it’s ridiculous how much he’s turned on. He can actually feel his cheeks becoming redder and redder by the second, and he doesn’t dare to look at Niccolò, who’s smiling, he can feel it against his skin. His blood is running hot through his veins, and he’s having a hard time breathing. “I never drove it on pavement.” That’s the first thing Emme Hall told me when she got back from testing the 2020 Land Rover Defender in Africa earlier this year — you know, back when traveling was still a thing. Indeed, Emme’s weeklong safari through Namibia put the Defender’s impressive off-road chops in the spotlight. But as I discovered over the course of a few days at home in Los Angeles, the Defender’s a damn fine SUV for urban life, too.

Of course, I’m printing that alongside a bunch of photos of a dirty Defender that were clearly shot at an off-road park. But like, how could I not off-road this thing? I’ll let Emme’s first drive review get into the nitty-gritty details about how Land Rover’s new SUV handles the rough stuff, though I will say the Defender had no trouble handling the same tricky trails I recently drove in a Jeep Gladiator EcoDiesel, and all I had to do was raise the air suspension and shuffle through the various off-road modes.
The first round of Defenders to hit the US will be the four-door 110 version seen here; the two-door 90 arrives in the coming months, and it’ll have a 2021 model year designation. Personally, I’m all about the 90, mostly because I’ve got a soft spot for stubby, two-door SUVs. The 110, meanwhile, is actually bigger than you might think. It has an imposing presence on the street and my first thought upon climbing inside is, wow, this is roomy.

The Defender gets Land Rover’s new Pivi Pro infotainment system, housed on a high-resolution, 10-inch display atop the center stack. You’ve got access to all of the Defender’s off-road settings in here, as well as navigation, a Wi-Fi hotspot, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Combined with the digital gauge cluster, the Defender’s tech game is strong. But while the Pivi Pro system is generally easier to use and more attractive than Land Rover’s old InControl tech, it still suffers from the same laggy response times and occasional refusal to recognize my iPhone and load CarPlay.
My Defender SE test car’s cloth-lined seats are super-supportive and great for covering long distances in comfort. Overall, the Defender’s interior is purposeful but nicely appointed, with fabric-lined panels on the dashboard and tough-looking exposed screws on the doors. This durable appearance is a good thing; I feel a lot better about trekking mud inside a Defender than I do a leather-wrapped Mercedes-Benz G-Class. The rubber-lined footwells and cargo area speak to this down-and-dirty nature, too. Sure, you can option a Defender with nicer upholstery like Dinamica suede if you want, but I don’t, so there.
The cabin is handsomely styled, and Land Rover’s new Pivi Pro infotainment tech is housed on a 10-inch screen.

You can get the Defender with three rows of seats, something Land Rover calls its “five-plus-two” option. You lose a bit of cargo space if you go this route, but if you stick to the five-passenger configuration, there’s a maximum of 78.8 cubic feet of cargo space behind the first row, though do note that the side-hinged tailgate swings out to the side, so be careful when backing into parking spaces. Speaking of hauling, regardless of wheelbase length or engine size, the Defender can tow 8,200 pounds.
The Defender’s base engine is a 2.0-liter turbo I4 with 296 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, but I’ve got the upgraded 3.0-liter I6, which uses turbocharging and mild-hybrid electric assist to produce 395 hp and 406 lb-ft. This MHEV I6 is the same one Land Rover offers in the Range Rover Sport and it’s a real peach of an engine, with lots of low-end torque and a refined stop-start system. However, with EPA fuel economy ratings of 17 miles per gallon city, 22 mpg highway and 19 mpg combined, even with mild-hybrid assist, it’s not exactly a fuel-sipper.
Combined with a smooth-shifting, eight-speed automatic transmission and full-time all-wheel drive, Land Rover says the 3.0-liter Defender 110 can accelerate to 60 mph in 5.8 seconds, which is pretty damn quick for a 5,000-pound SUV. You really feel that punch from behind the wheel, too. Lay into the throttle while heading up a highway on-ramp and you’ll be well above the posted speed limit before it’s even time to merge. Not that I’d know anything about that, natch.
Good tires and a nicely tuned air suspension keep the Defender rocking steady no matter the terrain.

The standard adaptive air suspension does a great job of soaking up pavement blemishes and keeps the big Defender from feeling tippy or wallowy at speed. There’s not a lot of front-end dive under hard braking, and while I don’t really recommend throwing one of these butch bois into a tight corner, the Defender is surprisingly agile. It’s a nicer highway cruiser than a G-Class, and 20 times better than a Jeep Wrangler. My only gripe is that the off-road tires spec’d to this car as part of the $1,345 Off-Road Pack are a little loud. Give and take, I guess.
A whole bunch of driver-assistance tech makes daily life with the Defender easier. The mid-level SE trim comes standard with a 3D surround camera, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping assist, traffic sign recognition and even nifty novelties like tech that’ll tell you if a car or pedestrian is approaching when you’re parked so you don’t inadvertently open your door and cause a crash. Weirdly, full-speed adaptive cruise control remains an option, so be prepared to spend an extra $1,020 if that’s on your wish list.
Pricing starts at $51,250 (including $1,350 for destination) for a base 110 and can stretch into the mid-$90,000s for a fully loaded Defender X. The full range of shorter-wheelbase Defender 90 models will hit dealers soon, and a base, two-door model starts at $47,470 delivered.

Land Rover is smartly offering lots of different add-on packages that can make your Defender as luxurious or as off-road-ready as you want, and they’re available across the whole lineup. As tested, my generously equipped 2020 Defender 110 SE costs $72,180 including destination. Considering you can option a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon well above $60,000, that doesn’t strike me as too bad of a deal. The Mercedes G-Class starts at more than $130,000, though it’s much nicer inside while being every bit as capable (perhaps more) off-road. The Ford Bronco will be a worthy adversary for the Defender, too, but it’s still a year or so away from hitting dealers.
I’ve heard people complain that the new Defender’s lost some of the charm of the old versions, but what they really mean is, it’s not a loud, bouncy, pain in the ass to live with on the daily. The new Defender is every bit as capable as its predecessor, but finally goes through finishing school. Even if you never take it off the beaten path, this new Land Rover is sure to impress.

 The 2017 Land Rover Discovery debuted nearly a year ago to much hype and fanfare. It was a welcome addition to the Land Rover Range Rover SUV family. It offered a brilliant mix of on-road and off-road features in a nicely sized, concise package. Here at Land Rover Orlando , your Orlando, FL Land Rover dealership we’re excited to see what’s new with the next model, the upcoming 2018 Land Rover Discovery.
The 2018 Land Rover Discovery is set to go on sale early next year but that doesn’t mean we can’t talk about some great new features now. So here are a few features that we’re excited about in the upcoming model.
The 2018 model of the Land Rover Discovery is getting a bit of a tech makeover. Standard on all models is the Land Rover InControl Touch Pro infotainment system. It includes a larger 10-inch touchscreen and 4G connectivity which brings WiFi for up to eight devices. Higher trims like the HSE and HSE Luxury will get a configurable instrument display with a high-resolution 12.3-inch touchscreen. An optional feature includes a bigger, full-color heads-up display which displays speed, traffic sign recognition, gear selection, and more.
For safety, all models now include a standard front collision system with both automatic braking and pedestrian detection. the system will even provide visual and audio warnings and, in the event of a collision, apply the brakes at speeds between 3.2 mph and 49.7 mph.
In addition to existing trims, a new off-road focused Land Rover Discovery SVX will be available. In addition to many off-road specific upgrades, the model will feature a supercharged 5.0-liter V8 engine that puts out 518 horsepower.

The large estate car is stylish, good to drive and offers an impressive amount of pace – even in the entry-level diesel models. The cavernous load area is a match for all but the Mercedes E-Class Estate, while the interior offers more space than the old model. The driving position is superb, while an uninspiring interior and so-so infotainment system are the only real areas of concern. 23 Oct, 2017 3.8 The Sportbrake is identical to the saloon until you reach the B-pillar, where the roofline stays high and continues past to the rear to reveal a traditional estate car back-end. The tailgate is dominated by the F-Type-inspired rear light clusters. To our eyes, this is the best-looking estate car you can buy, even managing to steal a march over the Volvo V90, especially in top-spec S trim. It’s sharper than before, with neat touches such as the F-Pace-inspired rear window and the taillights mentioned above. As you’d expect, the cabin is identical to the saloon, which means a simple, if a tad uninspiring cockpit and levels of fit and finish far beyond that of the previous model. That said, the Jaguar can’t quite match the overall quality and feel of the 5 Series Touring and E-Class Estate. Image 4 of 17 Image 4 of 17 The driving position is suitably sporty, helped by the raised centre console, which provides a terrific sense of occasion, while the optional panoramic sunroof (only available on the Sportbrake) allows light to flood into the cabin. At £1,125, it’s an expensive but must-have option, especially as, for an additional £205, it can be paired with gesture control, a first for Jaguar. Sat-nav, stereo and infotainment All models come with an eight-inch touchscreen and five-inch central TFT display between the dials. Navigation, Bluetooth, DAB digital radio and iPod connectivity are also included. The infotainment system is rather dated, however, and the lack of Apple CarPlay or Android Auto are notable by their absence. The standard 80-watt sound system is good enough, but Portfolio and S models gain a 380-watt Meridian upgrade (a £630 option on Prestige and R-Sport). Buyers can also spec a InControl Touch Pro system, which features a 12.3-inch touchscreen, virtual instrument display and a choice of two Meridian surround sound systems – 380-watt and 825-watt. 4.2 Like the XF saloon, the Sportbrake is based on a lightweight aluminium architecture, which helps the way it rides and handles. In fact, with the estate version weighing just 115kg more than the saloon, you’d be hard-pressed to notice any difference at the wheel. That’s high praise indeed. All Sportbrake models feature air suspension at the rear, which helps to ensure a level chassis and ride height, even when the car is fully laden. No chance of the freshly purchased pot plants, or worse still, the golden retriever, enjoying a less than perfect ride home from the garden centre, then. Upgrading to 20-inch alloy wheels will have next-to-no impact on the ride quality, such is the cushion-soft ride. But show the XF Sportbrake a twisting B-road, and it’ll respond with lightning-quick cornering, tight body control and bags of grip, especially if you opt for one of the all-wheel drive models. Flick the suspension into Dynamic mode, and the Sportbrake fidgets around a little more, but rarely feels too firm. The car appears more alive and more eager to change direction in this mode. The perfect sporting estate, then? It’s undoubtedly one of the best-in-class when it comes to ride and handling, with only a small amount of additional road noise over the saloon. Still want that F-Pace? Engines Jaguar had company car drivers in mind when it developed the XF Sportbrake, which is why the engine line-up consists predominantly of low-emission four-cylinder units. The 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel is likely to be the most popular choice and is available with three power outputs: 161bhp, 178bhp and 237bhp. A six-speed manual gearbox is offered on the smallest diesel, but we’d stick with the smooth and responsive eight-speed automatic. It makes motorway driving a smooth and relaxing affair, while the paddle-shifters on the steering wheel can be used to inject some enjoyment when the occasion arises. Image 2 of 17 Image 2 of 17 We’d opt for one of the higher-powered Ingenium diesel units, as the additional torque – a total of 430Nm in the 178bhp version and 500Nm in the 237bhp – is welcome, especially when you’re carrying loads. The flagship XF S offers a mighty 296bhp and 700Nm from its twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6 diesel. It might not be as quick as the saloon version, but you’ll barely notice the difference. The sole petrol version is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder unit offering 248bhp and 365Nm of torque. Sadly, for now, at least, the saloon’s supercharged 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine is off-limits for Sportbrake buyers. 4.6 The Sportbrake hasn’t been tested by Euro NCAP, but the XF saloon received a five-star safety rating in 2015. The scores were impressive across the board, including 92 per cent for adult occupants, 84 per cent for child occupants, 80 per cent for pedestrian safety, and 83 per cent for safety assist systems. There’s an impressive list of standard safety equipment fitted across the range, including autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning, trailer stability assist, traffic sign recognition and rear parking aid. Options include a surround camera system (£990), lane keep assist (£480), blind spot monitor and reverse traffic detection (£525) and park assist (£470). In our 2017 Driver Power Survey, Jaguar was rated 12th out of 27 on the list of manufacturers, while the first generation XF finished second for reliability. It scored an impressive 93.76 per cent, with the data suggesting that the majority of faults fall within the minor, rather than major, category. Image 17 of 17 Image 17 of 17 That said, some drivers were disappointed by the relatively high cost of maintenance. Warranty The XF Sportbrake comes with a standard three-year, unlimited mileage warranty, which is on par with rivals in this sector. This can be extended for up to 12 months, with a package that includes MOT test insurance cover and car hire for seven days. Servicing In line with some other brands, Jaguar offers a five-year service plan on the XF Sportbrake, priced according to the annual mileage and engine. For example, a five-year/50,000-mile plan on the 2.0-litre costs £649, or £749 for 75,000 miles. The 3.0-litre diesel is the most expensive, with a price of £825 for a five-year/50,000-mile servicing plan. 4.2 The XF Sportbrake’s undoubted good looks don’t come at the expense of practicality, as the Jaguar estate is a match for the majority of its rivals, with only the all-conquering Mercedes-E-Class Estate providing more interior space. A detachable tow bar can be fitted for £705, or, for an additional £285, you can upgrade to an electrically deployable version. The towing capacity is rated at 1,900kg to 2,000kg, depending on the engine. Size At 4,955mm in length, the XF Sportbrake is only 1mm longer than the saloon and 22mm longer than the Mercedes E-Class Estate. At 2,091mm width and 1,496mm height, it’s also slightly wider and taller than the E-Class. Image 11 of 17 Image 11 of 17 Leg room, head room & passenger space The previous generation XF Sportbrake was criticised for the lack of rear legroom, but this isn’t an issue in the latest model. All but the very tallest of passengers will also find plenty of headroom in the back, while entry to the rear seats is much improved, thanks to the large rear doors. Boot If you’re buying an estate car, the load capacity will be an important consideration. At 565 litres, the XF Sportbrake offers only 25 litres more than the saloon, but the space is more usable due to its square shape. The optional electric tailgate opens to reveal a huge opening, while the 40:20:40-split rear bench folds flat to create a totally flush load area and up to 1,700 litres of capacity. At 640 litres, the Mercedes E-Class Estate offers a larger load area, while the XF is five litres smaller than a BMW 5 Series Touring, but five litres bigger than the Volvo V90. Image 13 of 17 Image 13 of 17 4 You won’t match the saloon’s headline 70.6mpg in the XF Sportbrake, although the smallest diesel engine is the economy champ, with a claimed 62.8mpg on a combined cycle. Upgrade to the 178bhp version and the economy drops to 60.1mpg in the rear-wheel drive version and 56.5mpg when fitted with all-wheel drive. Things get a little trickier when choosing between the 237bhp four-cylinder diesel and the fire-crackling 3.0-litre V6. At 48.7mpg, the 2.0-litre diesel is more efficient than the 3.0-litre’s figure of 47.9mpg, but the larger engine will feel less stressed under heavy loads. Predictably, the 2.0-litre petrol is the least efficient, offering a combined 41.5mpg. At 118g/km and 119g/km CO2 (manual vs automatic), the smallest diesel engine is the cheapest to tax, with a first-year VED rate of £160. Opt for the rear-wheel drive version of the 178bhp diesel and CO2 increases to 120g/km, but the tax band remains the same. Image 9 of 17 Image 9 of 17 The more powerful and all-wheel drive diesel models will cost £200 to tax in the first year, while the 3.0-litre diesel and 2.0-litre petrol – both 154g/km CO2 – cost £500. Eight models avoid the £310 surcharge for cars costing more than £40,000, which gives the XF Sportbrake the edge over rivals such as the Mercedes E-Class Estate and BMW 5 Series Touring. Insurance groups Insurance groups range from 25 for the 161bhp versions to 42 for the 3.0-litre V6 S. The groupings put the XF Sportbrake on par with many of its rivals. Depreciation The XF saloon will hold on to anywhere between 42 and 46 per cent of its value after three years, and we expect the Sportbrake to follow suit. In fact, the extra practicality could improve the residual values still further. Only the XF S and 2.0 turbo petrol versions are likely to retain less value after three years and 36,000 miles.

It makes motorway driving a smooth and relaxing affair, while the paddle-shifters on the steering wheel can be used to inject some enjoyment when the occasion arises. Image 2 of 17 Image 2 of 17 We’d opt for one of the higher-powered Ingenium diesel units, as the additional torque – a total of 430Nm in the 178bhp version and 500Nm in the 237bhp – is welcome, especially when you’re carrying loads. The flagship XF S offers a mighty 296bhp and 700Nm from its twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6 diesel. It might not be as quick as the saloon version, but you’ll barely notice the difference. The sole petrol version is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder unit offering 248bhp and 365Nm of torque. Sadly, for now, at least, the saloon’s supercharged 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine is off-limits for Sportbrake buyers. 4.6 The Sportbrake hasn’t been tested by Euro NCAP, but the XF saloon received a five-star safety rating in 2015. The scores were impressive across the board, including 92 per cent for adult occupants, 84 per cent for child occupants, 80 per cent for pedestrian safety, and 83 per cent for safety assist systems. There’s an impressive list of standard safety equipment fitted across the range, including autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning, trailer stability assist, traffic sign recognition and rear parking aid. Options include a surround camera system (£990), lane keep assist (£480), blind spot monitor and reverse traffic detection (£525) and park assist (£470). In our 2017 Driver Power Survey, Jaguar was rated 12th out of 27 on the list of manufacturers, while the first generation XF finished second for reliability. It scored an impressive 93.76 per cent, with the data suggesting that the majority of faults fall within the minor, rather than major, category. Image 17 of 17 Image 17 of 17 That said, some drivers were disappointed by the relatively high cost of maintenance. Warranty The XF Sportbrake comes with a standard three-year, unlimited mileage warranty, which is on par with rivals in this sector. This can be extended for up to 12 months, with a package that includes MOT test insurance cover and car hire for seven days. Servicing In line with some other brands, Jaguar offers a five-year service plan on the XF Sportbrake, priced according to the annual mileage and engine. For example, a five-year/50,000-mile plan on the 2.0-litre costs £649, or £749 for 75,000 miles. The 3.0-litre diesel is the most expensive, with a price of £825 for a five-year/50,000-mile servicing plan. 4.2 The XF Sportbrake’s undoubted good looks don’t come at the expense of practicality, as the Jaguar estate is a match for the majority of its rivals, with only the all-conquering Mercedes-E-Class Estate providing more interior space. A detachable tow bar can be fitted for £705, or, for an additional £285, you can upgrade to an electrically deployable version. The towing capacity is rated at 1,900kg to 2,000kg, depending on the engine. Size At 4,955mm in length, the XF Sportbrake is only 1mm longer than the saloon and 22mm longer than the Mercedes E-Class Estate. At 2,091mm width and 1,496mm height, it’s also slightly wider and taller than the E-Class. Image 11 of 17 Image 11 of 17 Leg room, head room & passenger space The previous generation XF Sportbrake was criticised for the lack of rear legroom, but this isn’t an issue in the latest model. All but the very tallest of passengers will also find plenty of headroom in the back, while entry to the rear seats is much improved, thanks to the large rear doors. Boot If you’re buying an estate car, the load capacity will be an important consideration. At 565 litres, the XF Sportbrake offers only 25 litres more than the saloon, but the space is more usable due to its square shape. The optional electric tailgate opens to reveal a huge opening, while the 40:20:40-split rear bench folds flat to create a totally flush load area and up to 1,700 litres of capacity. At 640 litres, the Mercedes E-Class Estate offers a larger load area, while the XF is five litres smaller than a BMW 5 Series Touring, but five litres bigger than the Volvo V90. Image 13 of 17 Image 13 of 17 4 You won’t match the saloon’s headline 70.6mpg in the XF Sportbrake, although the smallest diesel engine is the economy champ, with a claimed 62.8mpg on a combined cycle. Upgrade to the 178bhp version and the economy drops to 60.1mpg in the rear-wheel drive version and 56.5mpg when fitted with all-wheel drive. Things get a little trickier when choosing between the 237bhp four-cylinder diesel and the fire-crackling 3.0-litre V6. At 48.7mpg, the 2.0-litre diesel is more efficient than the 3.0-litre’s figure of 47.9mpg, but the larger engine will feel less stressed under heavy loads. Predictably, the 2.0-litre petrol is the least efficient, offering a combined 41.5mpg. At 118g/km and 119g/km CO2 (manual vs automatic), the smallest diesel engine is the cheapest to tax, with a first-year VED rate of £160. Opt for the rear-wheel drive version of the 178bhp diesel and CO2 increases to 120g/km, but the tax band remains the same. Image 9 of 17 Image 9 of 17 The more powerful and all-wheel drive diesel models will cost £200 to tax in the first year, while the 3.0-litre diesel and 2.0-litre petrol – both 154g/km CO2 – cost £500. Eight models avoid the £310 surcharge for cars costing more than £40,000, which gives the XF Sportbrake the edge over rivals such as the Mercedes E-Class Estate and BMW 5 Series Touring. Insurance groups Insurance groups range from 25 for the 161bhp versions to 42 for the 3.0-litre V6 S. The groupings put the XF Sportbrake on par with many of its rivals. Depreciation The XF saloon will hold on to anywhere between 42 and 46 per cent of its value after three years, and we expect the Sportbrake to follow suit. In fact, the extra practicality could improve the residual values still further. Only the XF S and 2.0 turbo petrol versions are likely to retain less value after three years and 36,000 miles.
