Hookfeather Dragon - Animo planta

The largest known true dragon to date, the hookfeather looms over every other dragon on the continent, reaching sizes of up to 100 feet at the shoulder. As the name implies, they are covered in thick layers of long, barbed green feathers that curl around anything that touches them similar to a sundew plant. A large crest of darker green feathers sprouts from their head, and they have a long neck and powerful jaws.

What makes them truly stand out, however, is their plant companions - alpine thornflowers, which bloom only in the hookfeather's nesting grounds and form a symbiotic relationship with the dragons.

Hookfeather dragons hatch with a soft fleshy spot in the back of their skull. No bone forms here, just a thick layer of skin and fat cushioning a piece of the brain. Parents guard the hatchlings closely as they are especially vulnerable to injury at this time.

Once they reach 2 months of age, a ceremony is held where all hatchlings of the right age are brought to the thornflower fields to walk among the vines. This ceremony is a very important ritual to the hookfeathers, and the fields are considered sacred.

They will wander through the fields until a vine snares around their leg, a vine belonging to a flowering stalk. In a slightly violent move, a seed from the flower is jabbed into the soft spot in their skull, where it will slowly germinate and intertwine with the dragon's nervous system. It will form its own "brain" wrapping around its host's brain, and a cluster of protective, thorny vines will sprout from the skull.

Eventually, vines will protrude all over the body, concealed by the feathers. These vines are able to ensare and kill any prey caught in their feathers, helping these massive dragons hunt, nourishing both the dragon and the plant. The vines also provide some energy through photosynthesis, and their systems are very linked with the host's.

The plants are also sentient in a sense, and dragons and plants are able to communicate through their linked nervous systems.

Hookfeather dragons are carnivorous and ever-hungry, needing to hunt almost constantly to sustain their massive size. As the rulers of the sky, there is not much to threaten them, and anything they can snap their jaws around or grab with their sharp claws is fair game.

a couple facts for this design

she’s looks kinda young but she’s actually pretty old around 35-40

In her glory days she was considered a top level fighter and almost made grand master status but couldn’t because the life style she wanted didn’t fit with the requirements for being a grand master.

she used to be in a team of other apprentice eucarians who also fought along side her to get stronger.

it was after their training was finished that they all went their separate ways to live out their own lives for the first time in over two decades.

she lives with her family in a pretty rural area not many people know about, she enjoys spending her time grazing the fields at night.

She still has some contact with her old friends but it’s pretty sparse, only her two closest friends really get to see her often.

she’s always been really mischievous and kinda mean but she’s fun mean :)

she’ll playfully tease anyone she likes as a form of endearment.

she used to have big wings she could fly with but after one particular fight they were ripped off almost completely leaving them completely useless, she remedies this by wearing a big cape she uses to glide around since flying is no longer an option.

Her kids love to steal and play in it when she’s not looking.
