If you guys liked Challengers you will not regret picking up Infinite Jest! It's like a slow-burn, post-apocalyptic AU with lots of trans + queer rep and aspects of magical realism, anti-capitalist and lighthearted fun for all audiences!¹

have you read infinite jest? if so what's your favorite scene? i've reread the tucson arizona chapter so many times because it's such a raw depiction of the sort of not quite neglect not quite abuse that vicarious parenting causes. say what you want about dfw himself but he could portray characters with a level of realism thats hard to find elsewhere
yassss im on like page 250 :3 cant really remember any particular scene but madame psychosis stands out to me. also i like the rehab house stuff. but idk its honestly been like a couple years since i really read it a lot 😭 the book hopperrrr

genuinely really hard to talk about my opinions on Infinite Jest without sounding like an "erm akshully ☝️🤓" guy but like. i genuinely think that the density of infinite jest is both overhyped and genuinely damaging to the experience reading it. Like yes its long (EXTREMELY long) and part of the experience IS frustration vis a vis the footnotes, but like. its not that bad? idk maybe its just me but on trying to approach it a second time without focusing on the confusion or density itself and just meeting the narrative where it is, i found myself both enjoying it way more and UNDERSTANDING it. Infinite Jest is genuinely a well-structured story with compelling characters and an EXTREMELY intricate world. its just that you have to work for it. You have to put effort into it. its not even that difficult after a certain point. you just have to try. you have to be willing to try a little bit and it will be there for you i promise
