Patricia Scanlon - SoapBox Labs [Inspirefest 2017 dublin]-130329 by William Murphy Via Flickr: Patricia Scanlon FOUNDER & CEO, SOAPBOX LABS Patricia Scanlon is founder and CEO of SoapBox Labs, a Dublin-based start-up, which recently landed €1.2m seed funding after meeting Astia Angels at Inspirefest. As adult speech recognition systems currently on the market are unsuitable for young children, SoapBox Labs has developed a proprietary, cloud-based speech recognition technology platform specifically for young kids aged 4-10. SoapBox Labs licenses its technology to a wide range of application areas that, to date, have not been served by accurate children’s speech technology, such as educational products for literacy and language learning as well as learning games.

Ep 135 Agent to Stars Carol Hanna & Michelle Cullen at Inspirefest by The Women's Podcast .... Carol Hanna recently marked 50 years in show business and 30 years at the helm of the talent agency she founded Carol and Associates. In this episode she tells Róisín Ingle how she went from the Knights of Columbanus to the Showbands, to Eurovision and Boyzone. She gave Louis Walsh his break in the industry, paying him £3 a week to make posters for her, a working relationship that has continued to this day. In the second part of the show, we bring you another excellent speech from InspireFest. This time it's Michelle Cullen, Managing Director with Accenture, speaking about gender inequality and the workplace.

Each week Nikolas Badminton, Futurist Speaker, summarizes the top-5 future looking developments and news items that I find to be inspiring, interesting, concerning, or downright strange. Each day he reads through dozens of blogs and news websites to find those things that we should be aware of.
In Exponential Minds’ The Future of Work in 2020 we look at a discussion on how work will change, engineering the future of cities, the New World Order, the future of food, and Hydrogel.
How we will work in 2020 | Inspirefest 2017
Adrienne Gormley (Dropbox), Colin Graham (Facebook) and Thomas Jelley (Sodexo Institute for Quality of Life) discuss the near future of our working life with Silicon Republic managing editor Elaine Burke at Inspirefest 2017.
 Engineering the Future of Cities
Robert Muggah says that cities take up three percent of the world’s surface area but are responsible for 80 percent of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions. Three million people move to cities every week, and the cities are responsible for 75 percent of the world’s energy consumption. In his Ted Talk The biggest risks facing cities – and some solutions, Muggah lays out his plans to engineer cities into the 22nd century.

The New World Order Is Ruled By Global Corporations And Megacities—Not Countries
We all know that quite a few corporations or terrorist groups have more influence in the world than many states do, but have yet to place them all in a single framework that measures them according to their reach and relevance. And yet such a “Mindshare Matrix” is precisely what we need to properly understand the 21st century landscape of power. Rather than comparing only apples to apples (countries to countries, companies to companies) in silos–as all existing rankings of power, wealth, brand recognition, or other assets do–this matrix would place countries, cities, companies, cyber-communities, and other contenders on the same playing field.

Mindfulness Expert Mallika Chopra Will Lead Meditation at This Philly Wellness Festival
Wellness
The B Inspired Inspirefest is scheduled for November 10.
Visit the B Inspired Inspirefest for a day of mindfulness and wellness. Photograph courtesy B Inspired.
As the seasons change, the inspiration to live your fullest life may dwindle. The cold weather can make you long for those worry-free summer days when getting to the gym (or even outside) was easier than ever. If you feel like you’re stuck in a rut, heading out to B Inspired’s second annual Inspirefest on Saturday may be exactly what you need.
B Inspired is a collaborative community that focuses on exercise, wellness, and meditation to enhance the success of other women. Liz Harris and Amy Carolla co-founded the venture in 2017 after the two mothers had a conversation about creating a “team” of women to support one another throughout the Philadelphia region. Together, the women believe that all things are possible through positive, grounded energy and offer a supportive place for women with interests in business, culture, and philanthropy.
This year’s three-hour-long event will be a morning of exercise and meditation with opportunities to learn about the newest wellness trends. Special guest Mallika Chopra — daughter of alternative medicine advocate and author Deepak Chopra — will guide the crowd in meditation as well as speak about her two books, Living with Intent and Just Breathe (her most recent book, which teaches children about meditation).
“Amy and I are so thrilled to be hosting our fourth overall wellness festival, Inspirefest,” says Harris. “Our family-friendly wellness festival provides such a special opportunity for our community to hear from the wise and inspiring, Mallika Chopra, and experience exercise, meditation, and other wellness features!”
If you need a break to refuel throughout the day, Inspirefest will also include a marketplace where you can shop for healthy foods, as well as fitness clothing, essential oils, jewelry, and more. The event is scheduled for Saturday, November 10, at 9 a.m. at Balance Chestnut Hill. You can find tickets — which are $50 for the general public, $25 for students and educators — here.

Moment of Clarity | I'm very lucky to attend Inspirefest thanks to @scienceireland. It's amazing to listen to such inspirational keynote speakers in the areas of creativity, art and science. Yesterday it felt lile every speaker was talking to me directly and suddenly I can see myself working in science again. I honestly never thought I'd say that again. — view on Instagram http://ift.tt/2tTD3oX

Susan O’Brien Summarizes the 7 basic survival skills of the entrepreneur

Tumblr media
Make belief your money, Smigin founder tells Inspirefest 2017.
Entrepreneurship can be a tough and very lonely journey for founders. For Susan O’Brien, the key to success lies in soothing the demons of doubt but also by imposing iron self-discipline.
O’Brien is CEO of New York and California-based Smigin, a service used in over 175 countries worldwide that offers travellers a package of translation apps. She was a speaker at Inspirefest 2017 in Dublin during the summer.
She's also co-founder of The Creator Guide, a resource for entrepreneurs, together with former Enterprise Ireland executive Simone Boswell.
"To focus, you want to quieten the noise inside your head," she explained.
"There is a very overwhelming, constant battle for your attention."
O’Brien outlined the decisions that founders need to create to deliver on goods and wow investors.
She called them her basic rules for survival.
1. Your passion is the purpose
"Without passion and conviction, you are wasting your time. As a start-up founder, nobody will be passionate as you are about what you are building. If you can leverage that passion, your purpose becomes your passion," said O’Brien, whose first love was languages.
2. Be authentic
"Sales jargon is crass, honesty is jarring, and, if you are solving your own problems as a creator, then you know it's a real issue. It's important to know you are building an authentic solution," she said. Recalling the creation of Smigin, she explained: "I believed I could build a much better way for people to learn conversational languages."
3. Put yourself out there
"You have to make those networks and connections," O’Brien urged. "As you work away on the long start-up travel, it's a fact that you will make errors. Build an actual network with real people and then you will find every error you made has also been made by someone else."
4. Explain it in 1 line
O’Brien said you need to have the ability to explain the purpose of your venture in a single line. "Learn a few lines off by heart, simplicity into the rest of it. As a founder, you've got to get your pitch down to a line. The elevator pitch was coined a long time ago. You must do it in 1 line."
5. Play to your strengths
"Know what you are good at and then concentrate on this, but not to the exclusion of everything else. I had to learn, as a first-time female founder, how to talk tech."
6. Know your numbers
"This isn't optional. It is critical, and women are the worst offenders. We don't like to discuss figures and money. You've got to learn how to speak the language. If you are able to talk numbers, you can inspire a ton of confidence."
7. Harness the power of your view
O’Brien said there is power in belief. "You decided to go on this mad journey for a reason. You believed in what you were doing. Do not underestimate the power of your belief, it's your vision. Belief is what aligns your staff and fuels your vision."

Ep 134 Lean In And Speak Up & Ruba Shamshoum by The Women's Podcast .... The science and technology conference, InspireFest took place at the Bord Gais Energy Theatre in Dublin earlier this month boasting a great line-up of female speakers. The organisers have kindly given The Women’s Podcast permission to broadcast some of their speeches and in this episode we bring you an address by Dr Anita Sands – a global business leader, public speaker and advocate for the advancement of women. In her speech she talked about embracing change, ignoring that 'roommate in your head' who tells you that you aren’t going to make and explains why it’s not good enough to just lean in, you have to lean in AND speak up. In the second part of the show we will be bringing you two songs performed live in studio by the Dublin-based Palestinian singer Ruba Shamshoum ahead of her appearance at the Hotter Than July festival in Dublin this Sunday.

Abundantly Different Happily Divine T Shirts
Abundantly Different Happily Divine
My name is Taylor Richardson. Most people know me as teen advocate Astronaut StarBright! I use my platform to get more girls involved in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math)!
When I was in 2nd grade I was diagnosed with ADHD. I was bullied because of it and many people told me I wouldn’t be able to do much because of my diagnosis.
Well I am definitely proving them wrong!
As I have taken stages like IBM Live, Ellevate, and Inspirefest. I am a Teen Vogue 21u21, a delegate for Eighteenx18, and an officer in the organization The STEAM Squad!
I have crowdfunded through GoFundMe to raise thousands of dollars to send kids to movie screenings like Hidden Figures, A Wrinkle in Time and Captain Marvel, sent girls to space and robotics camps, collected and donated over 10,000 books to youth and even been on the covers of Girls for Aviation and Scholastic Science World.
I have even had the opportunity to meet Oprah Winfrey, Robin Roberts, Ava Duvernay, JJ Abrams, Arlan Hamilton, Monique Mosley and Michelle Obama!
So as you can see my ADHD is not a handicap but my superpower, which I proudly call Abundantly Different Happily Divine.
My goal with my shirts is to show others like me and the world that we all are a little ADHD and that’s most definitely OK! So let’s raise the bar and awareness of ADHD!
I hope you will consider purchasing a shirt to support and show the world we all are Abundantly Different Happily Divine.
Proceeds will go towards STEM initiatives and scholarships that help youth especially girls live ABUNDANTLY DIFFERENT and HAPPILY DIVINE!
