Why is it getting tougher to land a job today????? SIMPLE:It is because Job Interviewers have resorted to using Thanos’s Snap.
Tumblr media
Leah Champagne
Imagine a heavily hyped movie that you have been looking forward to watch with all the excitement all year long and then when the time finally comes you are met with utmost disappointment. Now double that disappointment and that’s what a well prepared interview gone badly feels like.
No, I am not going to talk about the very well executed and utterly satisfying Avengers: Endgame but will talk about the nightmare of a job interview I had right after Hulk reversed the snap and got my interviewer back to life from dust. Continue reading to see how the interviewers need to be taught a good lesson.
Spoiler Alert: (Avengers Endgame References Made Throughout)
Tumblr media
We all dream about getting even with a bad interviewer, fantasize about how this bad interview could have been better and scroll down through Google to learn tips and tricks to get the next interview right.
We perfect our communication skills, put days and months into preparing for an opportunity of a lifetime that is a job interview, wear our best, look our best and then on the final day during such interviews these interviewers snap their fingers and just like that all our efforts along with our confidence fades away. Sounds familiar?
What if I tell you this failure was not completely your fault.( Well Thor could have gone for the head but the snap was still Thanos’ doing.)
Tumblr media
Yes, you are reading it right. A bad interview is not always your doing.
Its 2019, most techniques are old school. Formal firm handshakes with a greeting are now a story of the past. Instead of there being lectures on perfecting an interview, tackling questions and impressing an interviewer, we need lecturing the interviewers on how to conduct an interview in 2019.
In the old times a tough interviewer was considered as a necessity for it was deemed that a person tackling the tough was right for any job. But think again, was it?
Tumblr media
Recruiters now want much more than people who put their heads in the lion’s mouth and live to tell the tale. They seek for loyal, hard working and trust worthy individuals along with the desired skills with whom they can settle down in the near future.
Yet they haven’t changed their ways of finding and recruiting such individuals and still resort to the golden rules of taking an interview viz.
1)   Scare the hell out of an interviewee and at least break some down to tears.
2) Constantly remind them of who the superior is with all the powers.
3) Find ways to humiliate them by passing judgements upon their
    qualifications .
 4)  Demotivation is the key to a successful interview and if possible teach a life lesson that will kill their self esteem.
 Respected interviewers and others,
If you are reading this,
This is exactly what most people applying for a job go through in the interviewing process.
Times have changed. Competition is high. Stacks and stacks of educational degrees and skills are not enough. There is always more expected from us. But do note we are trying harder than ever; our struggles are tougher than ever.
Tumblr media
Going tough on us in a process to find out if we are right for the job is clearly not working for as fear won’t reflect the best in us.
I get it there is employment crisis going on probably everywhere from where you are reading this and most of you have already shortlisted the right candidate well in advance before an advertisement of such a  job in your esteemed organisation reach the job seekers and all this hectic cycle of recruitment is just a show for the outsiders to highlight the fact that all legal aspects were complied with for the process but this does not justify your behaviour towards an interviewee.
If I were to recruit someone for my company, I would want to see the strengths of an applicant and analyze how I will use these strengths for my company’s best interests.
A scary atmosphere in an interview makes even the most outspoken extroverts nervous and does not bring about the best in them. If one can’t see the best how does one figure out what the person really is and if they are right for the job.
Lastly I would conclude with some tips and tricks for the interviewer which is the good lesson that needs to be taught to them that I was referring to in the beginning,
Tumblr media
 1)      Be a human being and treat the interviewee like one too.
There is no point in turning green and smashing every time there is a disagreement or conflict of thoughts. Let us all leave the smashing to HULK.
                                                      OR
If smashing is your thing then take inspiration from our beloved new combination of BRUCE HULK or HULK BANNER as I like to call it. Be both tough and calm.
Tumblr media
 2)  Don’t be happy about the interview if you have managed to make someone cry.
This will only make you a monster without reason and purpose that is worse than Thanos himself as even that purple being had a purpose for what he did.
Tumblr media
 3)      “A smile conveys a million words”, worship this ideology, make it your best friend.
A smile makes the interviewee confident and makes them feel wanted and relaxed. This will bring out the best in them.
 4)       Make the interviewee feel comfortable even when they have answered something wrong.
At least their blunders in answering your questions won’t turn half the universe to dust.
 5)      THE ENDGAME:
This rule as the name suggests is how you play the end. This rule is applicable only when the interviewee is not getting shortlisted. Do it just like the movie, unsettling yet satisfying.
Tumblr media
See how beautifully Pepper Potts handled Tony Stark dying.
Tumblr media
The news was bad but it was done with a smile and a satisfactory remark that “YOU CAN REST NOW” which brought less tears to the eyes. Interviews are no less than a battle field and the outcome is just like experiencing the death of a beloved so take it easy and announce the bad news with heart.
With this I end my first ever post.
Please let me know about your thoughts and views and if you readers have any tips for our dear interviewers.
Do share your interview experiences with me. i would love to hear them
 Thank you for your time.
                  I WILL RETURN

Giving Thanks--In Writing
Tumblr media
You’ve made it through the interview. And now you might be tempted to collapse, but not so fast! While the interview is still fresh in your mind, it’s the perfect time to compose your thank you note. And there’s no better time to discuss thank you emails than Thanksgiving week! Today we’re talking about what you need to know about working with a staffing agency to perfect the art of showing gratitude to your would-be boss. Since you’re going through a staffing agency, you don’t have to worry about accidentally messing up an interviewer’s email address! In fact, you get an extra set of eyes on your work. While you should be proofreading and editing the email on your own, it’s helpful to have an outside perspective to catch any small mistakes--especially from the person who connected you with the client and made this job opportunity happen. It might sound cheesy, but teamwork really does make the dream work. Speaking of details, be sure to include specifics from your interview in your thank you email. Remember that interviewers often see several candidates. Use your message as a moment to remind them of a positive part of your unique conversation. For example, you can mention that you really appreciated your discussion about . This specific something will help remind them exactly who you are and let you stand out from the crowd--while also demonstrating that you were paying attention, a skill that your potential future employer will definitely appreciate. Above all, keep in mind that your goal in sending this note is to convey your gratitude. Be sure to thank your interviewer for their time. Employers are more likely to hire you if you write a good thank you note, so putting in this effort can only have a positive impact on your job hunt.     Image retrieved from Pixabay under the public domain.   This posting is brought to you by Contemporaries Inc., one of the best temp agencies in Boston MA. My 2 cents on interviews
1) prepare ahead of time - It’s so obvious when a candidate comes in unprepared. No eye contact, stumbling to get out a sentence, or no complete sentences...there are always some basic questions you can prepare answers for when it comes to interviewing.
2) have several questions prepared - seriously ask anything from technical stuff to the general work culture of the company. Questions demonstrate that you are actually interested in the company. I also never understood how candidates don’t have ANY fucking questions about the position or the company they might be joining.Having 0 questions is a red flag that you are not a good candidate.
3) you better be able to explain anything that is on your god damn resume. Yeah we all fudge our resumes here and there or make ourselves seem more important, but if you can’t explain something on your fucking resume, you just shot yourself in the foot.
4) The point of the interview is for both parties to get to know each other. If you feel under qualified for the position you are applying for, try to sell yourself more so that you become desirable. Lack in skills can be made up in work ethic or personality. You can’t expect to work at your dream company/or to move into a new industry if you don’t fucking prepare yourself for the god damn interview.

There is merit in being prepared for all the possible questions that can come your way during an interview process. At some point you can be asked by the hiring manager, “do you have any other job offers at the table?" What’s your opinion on this? Should a candidate disclose the details of the other job offers or politely decline to answer? Share your take in the comments below. #interviewing #interviewtips #interviewquestions #interviewupdates #interviewbodylanguagetips #interviews #interviewservices #interviewprep #interviewpreparation #interviewknowledge #interviewcoaching #interviewmistakes #interviewadvice #interviewanswer #interviewready #interviewingtips #interviewpreparationtips #interviewlook #interviewsetup #jobseeking #jobinterviewquestions #jobsuccessful #jobsearchtips #jobsuccessful #careerguidance #careersuccess #careerpath #careersuccessstories #career (at Interviews & Jobs) https://www.instagram.com/p/CS52LsyFXJ3/?utm_medium=tumblr

Interviewing Advice
Before
1.     Research the organization where you’d like to work ahead of time.
2.     Review the job description of the job you’re interviewing for.
3.      Take note of any questions you have about the organization or position.
4.      Bring 2-3 copies of your resume with you on paper, even if the            interviewer might not need it.
5.      Bring your questions with you to reference.
6.      Bring a pen and paper to take more notes or write down more questions.
  During
 1.      Smile when your interviewer greets you. Be pleasant; respond to any small talk on the way to the conference room or office.
2.      Be aware of your posture and body language.
3.      Sit up straight and look engaged.
4.      Maintain eye contact.
5.      Relax and try to get to know the manager while they get to know you.
6.      Always be honest!
7.      Fully listen to the behavioral based interview questions you’re being asked first and then formulate a response.
8.      Take your time if you need to before you answer a question.
9.      Use the STAR Approach when asked to describe a situation during a behavioral based interview.
a.      S – Situation (Describe the situation at hand)
b.      T – Task (Describe the task that you needed to do)
c.      A – Action (Describe the action you took to complete that task)
d.      R – Result (Describe the results of your actions)
10.      Describe situations from similar work experience you’ve had that relate closely to the job you’re interviewing for.
a.      ie – If you’re interviewing for an Office Assistant Job explain a situation you were a part of during a past Clerical or Operations role you’ve held
b.      ie – If you’re interviewing for a Customer Service Job explain a situation you were a part of during a past retail, hospitality, call center, etc role you’ve held.
11.   Ask questions! It shows that you are interested and engaged.
a.      ie – Ask about the team you’d be a part of. How many people are on the team? What are they like? What’s the organizational culture and dynamic?
b.      ie – Ask about expectations. What is expected of someone in this role? What are the standards/metrics  for performance in this role? What would you like your new hire to accomplish within the first 90 days/180 days/year?
c.      ie - Ask about the future. What are the advancement opportunities in this department? What are qualities you see in people that are top performers on your team?
12.   Thank your interviewer for meeting with you.
13.   Ask when you can expect to hear back regarding the next steps in the interviewing process.
14. Don’t be afraid to turn down an opportunity that you feel isn’t the right fit for you.
15. Remember that an interview is about trying to find out if you’re the right fit for an organization/position as well as finding out if that organization/position is a good fit for you.
  After
 1.      Follow up with a uniquely worded thank you email to your interviewer. Paper thank you notes take too long to get through the mail (in my opinion). Try to send it out that same night if possible.
2.      If you haven’t heard back from a recruiter and/or hiring manager after the deadline he or she gave you (or a total of 7 days), try emailing or calling to politely ask for an update.
With Charisma, Uniqueness, Nerve, and Talent Acquisition,
LaLa Lori
