I'm gonna make a whole post about it later with photos and stuff but this hotel in Ishinomaki is fucking incredible

We get here like three hours late and the owner drove over to check us in at 10pm

Then he offered to:

Drive us to the ferry to Cat Island in the morning

Stop by a bakery on the way to the ferry so we can get breakfast (two items, included in the room fee)

Pick us up from the ferry after we're done and take us to the train station

When we told him we wanted to see the tsunami memorial museum and park (so we wouldn't be going straight to the train station) he came up with a whole plan to drive us to all of those things AND THEN the train station afterward

The entire building next door is home to like a dozen cats with little walkways and hidey-holes etc, free for guests to come pet and play with

The room is a whole fucking apartment (that sleeps up to 5 people) with an ice maker and massage chair and automatic bathtub and everything

The room cost $75 USD for the night 🤯

One of my partners showed me Hidden Fortress-- both because Kurosawa and because it's an inspiration for Star Wars-- and we talked a bit how Yukihime's "roughneck princess" vibe evoked Isawa Kasu, the deuteragonist from my Confluence series. So I did a painting of my own, with that pose in mind.

The trans sapphic roughneck princess looks out over the land that bore her, having returned in spite of kinfolk who rejected her, secure in the knowledge that finally, it has room enough for her, too.

Tashirojima, commonly known as "Cat Island" for obvious reasons, is a small island in Ishinomaki, Japan. With a population of approximately 100 people and thousands of stray cats, it’s a paradise for cat lovers. The abundance of cats on the island is linked to a local belief that feeding them brings good fortune. In fact, dogs are even prohibited from the island to ensure the cats' peaceful existence.

At the heart of Tashirojima lies a small cat shrine with a touching history. Fishermen on the island, who frequently encountered cats begging for fish, would often feed them. One day, while collecting rocks for their fixed nets, a rock accidentally fell and killed one of the cats. The fishermen, feeling guilty and saddened by the cat's death, buried it and built a shrine in its honor. This shrine now stands as a testament to the island’s unique relationship with its feline inhabitants.

みなさんこれに飽き足らず、はみだしてらくがきしたり、裏に書いたり、新しい紙を追加したりと

こちらも見ていて楽しかったです。

概要：下絵が描かれた、１枚の原稿用紙をはさみでコマ切れにする。セリフやらくがきを追加し物語を完成させる。束にしてぱらぱらめくる。（全７種の物語）
