saw some writing advice today that said "please please pleaseeee use Google Docs, it's so good and sooo convenient" and while that is true, google docs is convenient, for the love of all that is holy MAKE A LOCALLY SAVED COPY OF YOUR BOOK/MANUSCRIPT/FANFICTION. save it as a pdf, word document, whatever, but SAVE IT. twice or even three times, just to be sure. never ever everrr trust in cloud services. especially if it's google holy shit

i've been using google docs for so long and it's such a comfortable app to write on, not to mention the fact that I can work on the same file on my laptop and phone, so all this AI shit really saddens me and angers me. Like it's either use an app with ads popping up every other second or get your words fed into machines, ain't it? this is what we have come to. it's honestly depressive. i wish capitalism stopped taking the soul and humanity out of everything.

In search of a non cloud based app/service/program that I can access across my devices without sending files. Does this exist? (No, right? because that mean I have to store the file on the device? And would have to send it to transfer it to another?)

Increasingly uncomfortable storing my work on a cloud/where companies can access/monitor content 🙃
