#One of my perennial faves from fandom gone by: David Hewlett#Was holding forth on twitter the other day about challenging his own racism when it comes to#His response to characters or actors he doesn't like from franchises like Star Wars#And not always liking what he finds out about himself#All of this is like - I'm not giving him a cookie but I like to see white folks I respect trying to do the work#And one of the comments disagreeing was like#'no David racists are inherently bad people and you're a good person'#And I facepalmed so hard bc that's the shit about fandom racism in a nutshell#The idea that good people can't do a racism even in their heads bc racism is a quality exclusive to 'bad people'#It is what I have always gone thru and experienced with the weed-slash-n-word video#And various responses to BLM and Mammy fetishism and finnpoe#And various lgbtq fans clamoring for representation while ignoring out gay men like Lil Nas#As I said in the early days of the fallout from that zouis video leak#And have repeated so many times since#Good people can love their mums and give to charity and be ride or die friends and also do a racism#And if you think you're immune because you're a 'good person'#Know that your friends of color - if you have any - don't trust you like that
