I get a very 80svibe from the early series, Shae walking into a high powered “man’s” role would definitely power shoulderpad it up…

my most recent read — jade war by fonda lee

i've been really struggling with fantasy this past year (i blame wheel of time for putting me into a slump😵‍💫), but i finally feel my sff mood returning and picking up jade war was the perfect re-entry into the genre.

i surprisingly LOVED this book. the characters are absolute perfection, the slow and intricate politics worked so well for me, and this series is so propelling. there's never a dull moment. everyone always pitches this series as 'the godfather but asian and fantasy', and i absolutely agree. beyond excited to continue!!

read the green bone saga this week and i’m just saying. if you want an in-depth political fantasy mafia thriller (yes all of those words apply) set in a post colonial nation that is navigating an unsure global political position and the potential exploitation of its culturally significant resource that simultaneously explores the bonds between family and how they can take different shapes in the wake of loss and love and life, with brilliantly developed, fleshed out characters and realistic pacing (both in world and in the actual delivery of the story). i HIGHLY recommend.

At the end of Jade Legacy they are ~45, that’s 35 years of weird tension brooo😭
