Dinkum, The Aussie Cosy Life
Dinkum is so underrated. I feel like I never hear anyone talk about it on my feed, but I love this game so much, so I want to give it the attention it deserves! Me and my bestie love playing this game, we are both autistic + adhd and love cosy games so anything we can play together for a joint hyperfixation leads to a fun chaotic time.
Tumblr media
Like Stardew Valley, Dinkum is worked on by one person, James Bendon! The game is still in early access and the developer is slowly putting out lots of love in updates. I have been playing this game for way over a year now and I love watching what new goodies are brought in.
The game feels most comparable to animal crossing gameplay but without the mass villagers. You spend most of your time harvesting, mining, metal-detecting, doing daily NPC requests, fishing and bug-catching. You can also explore, decorate, cook and care for animals. You make money and work towards creating a thriving town by inviting all the NPCs to join your island.
Dinkum is based in Australia! Which I love. I feel immersed in Australian culture when playing. Prepare to get your ass beat by some alpha crocodiles and alpha kangaroos! One of my favourite NPC in the games is called Irwin, he owns the animal store. He is super wholesome and I love how the devs have honoured the legacy of Steve Irwin within the game.
Tumblr media
Here is Irwin!
This game is definitely a slow burner, I personally wouldn’t suggest going into this game expecting to get its full experience within the first year of playthrough. Progression takes time, especially if you want to enjoy the later game features.
However, the game feels very interactive to play, I love the hand trolley and wheelbarrow and how you are moving everything around visually instead of it just going into the bags.
There is quite a bit more quality of life I would like to see from Dinkum still in the future. I would love to see improvements to the levelling farming early game, NPC locations on the map, a sandbox/creative mode, the pineapple plant re-growing instead of destroying, and possibly animal automation? I would also love to see improvements to multiplayer, currently, it won’t recognise another player as living there, but it would be good to have the option for them to have more control over things.
Tumblr media
As I mentioned, I’m currently doing a second playthrough with my bestie! We are slowly working on creating a bigger town with roads and larger farms. We are in the middle of moving everything over to the middle and it is so fun watching it all come together!
I am excited about the future of Dinkum. It has such charm to it. There is so much potential there and I’m truly looking forward to seeing what the dev has planned!
Chronically Cosy, aka Georgia :)
P.S, James, if you are reading this, I have broken at least 10 dirt printers, I need emotional support.

Like I totally understand mental health and all dont get me wrong! But that doesn't excuse anyone's actions. If I can take responsibility for being immature in the height of my depression and like, possibly being on the autism spectrum, I think a grown man can take responsibility for making this into a joke? I rly don't wanna come off as hostile but honestly, nobody should be joking about BLM, mental health condition or no mental health condition.
look, you didnt like the joke, understandable. i have no negative emotions to you for that. but what im saying is he was making a remark that was sassy and on brand. he evidently didnt have harsh intentions and he was pressured til he posted that anyway
youre allowed to make a joke that people dont like.
count every suicide joke made by the different influencers, people dont like those, you dont see those people getting cancelled and suicide is a sensitive topic.
you can not like the joke, you can find it insensitive i just dont agree with the backlash hes getting for it
if ive come across any other way, my bad, i genuinely appologise but i just dont like that hes getting backlash. had a female or not white celebrity said it it would have gone unnoticed.
people are looking to cancel people rn cos the posts are getting clout i swear down. maybe thats not your case but you cant tell me I'm wrong when Bendon urie, James Charles and now tyler are all getting cancelled n i dont even know why. yeah James's is being resolved but people are willing to dive onto anything. kurtis Connor nearly got cancelled cos he made a joke and people took it seriously (watch his video on it if you don't know what i mean.)
cancelling people is becoming a trend and its toxic

Dinkum is an Aussie farm life sim with wombats as big as an ox https://ift.tt/3055xJ4
While my knowledge of Australian fauna is limited, I’m quite sure that wombats are not close to six feet tall. This makes upcoming outback life sim Dinkum and its giant fuzzy pals objectively better than reality. Due in the first half of 2020, it looks like a hybrid of Animal Crossing and Stardew Valley (or Harvest Moon, for that matter) with a bit of kangaroo hunting and barbecuing. It’s the work of solo dev James Bendon, native to a quiet little corner of Australia and inspired by his travels around the vast deserts and bushlands of the country. There’s a debut trailer down under.

Dinkum is like Stardew Valley, except it’s Australia so everything wants to kill you
As a long line of games from Harvest Moon to Animal Crossing and Stardew Valley have taught us, there’s no escaping the appeal of a simple life of living off the land with a close-knit group of fellow country people. Dinkum, from solo developer James Bendon and publisher The Irregular Corporation, follows in that tradition - except this one takes you to the Australian outback.
Dinkum takes place on an Aussie-inspired island full of everything from eucalyptus forests to swampy billabongs. You’ll get to build up a town and attract new citizens that’ll open new shops with unique items, construct and customise a house, and start a farm full of crops, chickens, cows, and, er, giant wombats.
You’ll also head into the outback itself to search for treasure, fish, and bugs, and to go hunting Australia’s infamous selection of deadly creatures. There are sharks, crocodiles, and unusually aggressive kangaroos to contend with, all of which fit in with the assumptions I hold about the Australian countryside.
