Revature
Okay. So I was talking to someone on Fishbowl about this so I'm just copy and paste what I said there here[warning long long post incoming]:
I switched careers by way of Revature, and am now working for a WITCH company. But I wouldn't recommend it if you're not willing to work in-office or if you're not willling to make a relocation in a ridiculously short amount of time (Revature was prodding some people to move in one week!) or willing to risk being stuck on Revature's 2 year contract.
Some people also aren't willing to risk having a WITCH company on their resume, but for me it was worth it because I'm now making twice as much as the best-paying and most frustrating job I've ever worked. And I can build up the experience I need to move on to greener fields in a year or two.
I considered boot camps but I couldn't really afford them, and didn't want to risk the debt issues that ISA's offered by most boot camps can incur sometimes, and the 'can take up to 6 months to get a job after a boot camp' really wasn't attractive to me. And since I was far too close to burning out where I was, I decided to take a risk on Revature's minimum wage training since they were still doing remote training. So far, it's worked out for me.
So Revature is essentially an apprenticeship program/staffing agency. They do not allow you to pick which tech stack you train in(which is a major con for some).
The interview process is pretty simple: once you give them your information and that you're interested they'll send you an email to a link with an evaluation that is part multiple choice and part record yourself answering questions. The evaluation mostly focuses on OOP programming and basic understanding of Java, I believe there were also a few HTML/CSS questions thrown in as well. The video portion is just a couple questions about programming and a 'tell me about yourself' section. Revature actually sends you a study guide in the email to give you an idea of what the evaluation covers. I think they really just use the evaluation to determine whether they want to risk putting you in a high code tech stack or if they want to put you in a low code stack.
As long as there were no issues with the video(I had technical problems and had to rerecord the video section) after completing the evaluation, I believe I talked to my recruiter on the phone twice(once was because of the video issue) Revature contacts you to set up a phone interview, which wasn't technical, mostly just confirming when could I start and talking about the process and a little bit about onboarding.
So Revature only pays minimum wage while training and in staging, and it's based off your state's minimum wage [but if you live in a state with minimum wage less than $8, you'll make $8 because that's the lowest they pay]. You also won't know what tech stack you're being put in until day 1, which is… fun. They do require you to sign a 2 year contract before you start, and here's where the apprenticeship part kicks in, if you break the contract before the 2 years is up, they expect you to pay $36,000 in training costs back to them[although there is a current online debate whether that is legally enforceable or not, I advise erring on the side of caution and assuming that yes the contract you sign is enforceable]. They give you the first 4 days of training to decide if you actually think you can make it through the training or are willing to go through with it, after that you're bound by the 2 year contract. Although in a weird little bit of tricksiness, your part of the the 2 year contract doesn't technically start until you're with a Revature client. Yeah, I don't understand that.
However, you can leave before the 2 years are up if there are extenuating circumstances or if you are fired. One of my batchmates was let go because there was an issue with her education verification. Another was released from contract because he had a family emergency. I believe they will also drop you if you fail a certain amount of evaulations but as far I'm aware none of my batchmates had that issue and collectively a good portion of us failed one of our first projects.
So Revature does try to cram a great deal into a very short amount of time. Training is usually somewhere between 10-12 weeks long depending on the tech stack, and they cover alot. If I go by the current portfolio guidelines, they have about 17 tech stacks right now.
Because Revature serves as a staffing agency, their goal is to get you on with a client, and you will have to interview in order to get on with a client. My batch was specifically matched to one of their clients that had requested they train people in our tech stack so we had interviews before we even left training. We also had a second company express interest in our tech stack, so two of us interviewed with two separate clients before training was even over. Whether or not you do this depends on your tech stack, at least 2 of the other tech stacks had to complete certifications before they could do interviews.
Once training is completed, you are put into what is called staging. Staging is… a major confusing mess. From what I was told, there's like 6 people trying to manage the 500 people currently in staging. Staging is bascially a holding period where you finish up any necessary certifications, complete a module to help you prepare for interviews, and/or get reading for onboarding with a client. You can also do extra training or little projects to buff up your resume during that time. [pay will also be the same as training]
Once on with a client, Revature expects you to be at client location within a week of onboarding, even if you're on a completely different side of the US.
Now some of Revature's clients, including their biggest client Infosys, do direct hire you by buying out your contract, which basically means instead of you contracting for Revature, you are an employee of that company.
I suspect that client buyouts of contracts are probably where Revature makes most of its money as there seems to be a big emphasis on 'the client will probably buy out your contract within a year of working for them.' but client buyouts are really good for the person working for Revature because bump in pay!
So after you onboard with a client, Revature's 2 year contract clock starts clicking and your pay finally moves off that minimum wage and hits the pay of $45,000 annually [Depending on where you move, this might be higher, Revature does increase your pay if you end up in one of the locations they have listed as high cost of living]. If you are direct hired by a client your pay is usually going to be higher than that.
If you go on a client project and for whatever reason, they send you back, you then go into a thing called Bench which is basically staging v.2, you're basically back with the staging managers trying to get back on with another client. The bad thing with this is your pay drops back to that minimum wage, but your 2 year clock doesn't stop, it keeps ticking down to the end of your contract. When I was in staging there were only 2-3 people that I knew of on bench.
So with Revature and staging they do sometimes release people from the contract if after doing interviews they aren't selected. I know a few of my batchmates were given the options of being released from their contract or going into training for another tech stack.
As of right now, Revature is doing remote training because of covid. That is the only reason I went with them, because when they are in-office, you actually have to relocate to their training locations.
I initially thought they were a scam because of how much negativity they get on Reddit, especially since alot of people who've never been through the program hear the stuff about the 2 yr apprenticeship style contract, the relocation requirements, and the fact that their biggest clients are WITCH companies and flip out about how bad of an idea it is to work for them, but after coming across posts from people who were in positions like mine saying it worked for them and a lot of helpful Youtube videos talking about how it's alot of hard work and maybe not the greatest program out there but it got them where they wanted to be, and I decided to go for it.
It is ALOT of hard work. So (from what I heard from my trainer and other cohorts this is pretty typical across tech stacks) you will be assigned 4 projects throughout the training. The first 2 projects are individual and the last two projects are group projects. For my batch we were assigned into small teams for standups and these were also utilized for little mini projects and group activities. The teams changed for every project so we could get used to working with different team members.
I don't think a one of us got a good night's sleep the week of project due dates due to trying to make sure our projects were up to par. Spoiler: our first project was absolutely not (except for like 3 people). I personally got a red, which is an F. Grades are in colors.
For each major project you do have to do a presentation on the project. The first two were short 5ish presentations. The third was about 15 minutes per team. The last project is a showcase that the entire cohort works on and will be presented to your trainer, other trainers and cohorts, other Revature employees, and potentially the clients you may well be interviewing with.
You also get weekly evaluations that check on how well you are doing. These are done interview style and are both to help you be prepared for technical interviews and to ensure that you are thoroughly learning the material. [Which I must admit I really wonder about, I believe in the high code tech stacks they learn a new tech each week.]
I interviewed with 2 clients, one who didn't select me and one who did. I only had one interview with each, and both interviews consisted of them asking for a short "tell me about yourself" and then asking technical questions around the tech stack I was trained in. They also asked me about projects that I had worked on while in the Revature training. One also asked me to build a quick program while they watched. Both interviews were remote, one through Teams and one through Bluejeans. Even though I was selected for a client during my last week of training, I was still in staging for a week and a half while the onboarding process went through which consisted of a background check and document verification. Because I was a direct hire to my company, I had a pre-onboarding day with Revature, which was just kind of a few last minute things Revature Sales wanted to make sure we knew and wrapping up anything I needed to, and that was my last day with Revature. The next day I onboarded with my company, and that was my first day with them.
Sales is the name of the Revature department that handles clients, and takes care of setting up interviews and getting people ready to onboard. They do tend to prefer calling over emails though.
I almost forgot to mention that Revature does a background check before training but clients require another bg check. It varies by client.
Revature is also really big on using Scrum in AGILE methodology.

Tufenkian Gallery to Present ‘Crossroads, Crossing, and Convergence’ Exhibition
New Post has been published on https://armenia.in-the.news/culture/tufenkian-gallery-to-present-crossroads-crossing-and-convergence-exhibition-76432-16-07-2021/
Tufenkian Gallery to Present ‘Crossroads, Crossing, and Convergence’ Exhibition
LOS ANGELES—Tufenkian Fine Arts will present “Crossroads, Crossing, and Convergence,” a group exhibition featuring a selection of first-generation immigrant female artists. The exhibition will run from Wednesday, July 21 and will be on view through Saturday, August 21.
The exhibition uses the word crossroads as a unifying principle – the artists, though varied in their approaches, are united under a shared identity of multiple cultural experiences. In a world filled with variety of unfamiliar thoughts, practices, racial, economic, social, and political divides; these artists are connected by a common thread of acceptance and tolerance which female immigrants have faced around the globe. The nine featured artists in the exhibition are women of diverse backgrounds making history, while ensuring that the vital pulse of LA’s art scene continues to beat in an ever-changing society between the “Crossroads Crossing and Convergence.”
For years, Andrea Aragon has employed Los Angeles’s distinct urban landscape, an environment saturated with graffiti and street vendors which is so familiar to native Angelinos like the artist herself, to stimulate her artistic practice. The artist aims to emulate the aura of her subject matter, using an impregnation of hues, shapes, and disorder in order to emphasize the rawness in each of her pieces.
Fatemeh Burnes is a pictorial, conceptual artist, as well as an artist-activist. Her current body of work has taken an autobiographical turn in the context of her experince as an immigrant and as a woman. Burnes is preoccupied with the nature around us and within us and the history we have made and that we make, a history defined not by time but by energy – as is nature, and as is art. She makes art not just to produce objects, but also to explore phenomena, whether they occur in the world or in her dreams, as thoughts in her mind or as rocks on the ground.

Born and raised in Angola before migrating to California over twenty years ago, Nzuji De Magalhaes synthesizes both Angolan and American art forms to convey issues of stereotypes, myths, ethnicity, and politics. De Magalhaes utlizes a variety of artistic mediums – sand, beads, yarn, and glitter – to capture traditional Angolan art forms while serving as commentary on the ravaging effects of tourism and unfettered captalism from foreign escapistis which contribuite to her country’s domestic turmoil.
Gudrun Gotschke’s photographs are, like all photographs, still and stationary, yet they evoke movement and change. Gudrun was always deeply affected by her environment and her surroundings. The photographs in this exhibition similarly are in a relationship with each other, subtly and powerfully affecting each others’ moods and shifting the understanding of the moments captured within their frames.
Working across several media, including film, video, neon light, installation art, and photography, Miriam Kruishoop seeks to capture the disparity and the deliberate suppresion of minorities in our society by way of police brutality and institutional racism. The selected works come from Kruishoop’s LIVING IN AMERICA series in which highly charged portaits act as an instrument for navigating the complexities of the black experience in America.
Luigia Gio Martelloni’s artistic practice centers on uncovering hidden layers of truth, exploring dimensions of collective unconscious and subjective interpretation, and capturing the ephemeral and transient. Martelloni’s work pays particular attention to the natural world and its relation to humanity, transforming and reinterpreting everday realities: traces from nature, isolated fragments, geography, urban spaces, and diverse cultures.
Lilli Mueller’s current work focuses on new labor-intensive, multi-media, interactive performace projects both locally and internationally that address global issues and the state of humanity worldwide. Her inspirations are drawn from the colors of life, human experiences, and the puzzle pieces of emotional states of mind, weaving like a red thread through layering visuals, hidden messages and symbols, assuming obvious perceptions and surprise reveals.
She Loves Collective is a collection of female artists who share a strong belief in the power of creating social change by testing our conceptions of artistic medium, expression, and practice. The group aims to inspire and awaken the inner creative in us all and to promote love in all its myriad manifestations.
The Los Angeles-based artist Mei Xian Qiu was born to a third-generation Chinese family in the town of Pekalongan, on the island of Java, Indonesia, where as a child she was subject to cyclical violence and prejudice. Harnessing her upbringing and cultural heritage as inspiration for her unique visual language, Xian Qiu juxtaposes assumptions about ethnicity and customs with Pan-Asian, Chinese, and Western motifs in photographs which are designed to appear candid.
Tufenkian Fine Arts, a gallery located in Glendale, California, is dedicated to the advancement of modern and contemporary artists. We present and connect audiences to events and exhibitions fostering excellence in contemporary fine art.

Their curated cache of artisans is hand-selected, with many having overcome amazing odds by selling their goods. For example, the Blue Jasmine Batik Silk Scarf, designed by Java artisan Yuni Kristina, has expanded business into a global marketplace thanks to the help of NOVICA’s team. Originating in Indonesia, batik is a technique of wax-resist dyeing applied to whole cloth, or cloth made using this technique. Kristina hand-stamps the blue patterns on the ivory textile and adds red and black designs in batik. Also noteworthy are glass-blowing artists Javier Gutiérrez and Efrén Canteras, who have worked together to preserve Mexico's blown glass artistry. They work with lead-free, un-tempered and recycled glass, which is melted at very high temperatures and formed into beautiful wares. NOVICA features many other authentic crafts from around the globe and the company has sent more than $89.9 million back to their artisans to date.

Photo Courtesy FindURings.com To help amp up your fashion accessory game—especially on the engagement and wedding ring front—is FindURings.com, an online jewelry store allowing consumers to benefit from its deep industry knowledge about the modern-day ring marketplace. They have their own processing plants and offer tailor-made services to ensure whichever wedding, engagement or fashion ring design you select meets your distinct needs and desires. Plus, all of their rings are made at their own factory with no outside agent, so prices will be more favorable to a budget-conscious shopper. Whether you’re seeking unique tungsten wedding bands; titanium, sterling silver, stainless steel or ceramic rings, FindURings.com has fashionable styles for both men and women, alike. They are also one of the few brands that offers free engravings of meaningful words, phrases and even fingerprints, adding even more meaning to your personalized design. One of my favorite rings on the site is the “Sterling Silver Cris Cross Ring,” which is billed as an “Eternity Engagement Band” although I like wearing this blingy bauble daily as a fashion ring. This standard, silver, horizontal ring is made from 925 sterling silver and shiny white cut AAA cubic zirconia. The cross loop is reportedly one of their most popular rings of the year. If you are buying this design for romantic reasons, its exquisite sheen and simple, stylish "X" design are stunning and a symbol of eternal love. For men, I really dig the “Flat Deer Antler Titanium Wedding Band”—a wide flat titanium deer antler-adorned ring. At 8mm wide and 2.0-2.5mm thick, the inside of the ring is made of high-quality titanium and the outside is made of authentic deer antlers. So, each ring is truly unique. Plus, all of their rings are offered with free shipping and a lifetime warranty, with no minimum spend required. Each one has a lifetime guarantee for size exchange and any damage.

Dooney & Bourke ‘Caldwell’ Design Handbags

Photo courtesy of Dooney & Bourke The Caldwell Collection from Dooney & Bourke exemplifies understated elegance. These chic, structured bags created from python-embossed leather are refined but with a touch of glam courtesy of the gold-plated hardware embellishment. The collection of products has also been treated to repel some moisture, so those spring showers are nary a worry. One option from the line is the Caldwell Flynn Handbag, which features rich textures of that python-embossed leather that elevates the fashion-forward bag. Soft pleats and a gold logo round out the look on the exterior, while inside there’s a light, twill lining—a bright pop of red juxtaposing my choice of the deep espresso brown option. Aside for its aesthetics, what I adore about this handbag is that it’s extremely roomy, with the main compartment holding an abundant amount, while also keeping you organized courtesy of deep-set pockets galore. Another piece that I especially like for when I only need to carry essentials is the Caldwell Zip Clutch. The exotic texture of python is once again artfully imprinted in leather, making this eye-catching clutch an instant outfit changer. Its classic, timeless shape makes it a perfect companion. It can also be used as a coordinating wallet with the Flynn Handbag. For an effortless polish, day or night, Caldwell bags are a great choice for the season.
Skin Actives’ ‘Double Action Hair Serum'
For those unhappy with their thinning or grey hair, the Double Action Hair Serum from Skin Actives may just be the answer. This serum is specifically formulated to help replenish thinning and grey hair to give it more youthful flare. The product’s key ingredients, Keratinocyte Growth Factor (KGF), Methionine Sulfoxide Reductase (MSR) and nourishing actives work together to create hair that looks thicker, stronger and healthier while also maintaining its natural color in the process. For this and all of its products, Skin Actives constantly reviews scientific and industry literature to stay at the very front of effective ingredients and innovative approaches. Their formulators use techniques developed over decades of research to manufacture specialty proteins and push the cutting edge of skin care technology. For the most optimal results with the Double Action Hair Serum, specifically, Skin Actives recommends using the product nightly by dampening the scalp area and applying the serum directly to it using the product’s pointed applicator. From there you just have to gently massage it into the area and then rinse or cleanse it out in the morning. It’s as simple as that. Skin Actives says that users begin to see results in just two to six months. Now that’ll put a spring in your step!

EVERY FOUNDER SHOULD KNOW ABOUT COMPANIES
Yahoo exec I knew from working there in the late 80s. There are two main things you can do, but you need time to grow a user base. Xfire's VP of engineering had worked at Yahoo during 1998 and 1999.1 And the startup was taking off. The second biggest benefit of selling Viaweb to Yahoo after the money was the least important of the new startups about fundraising, and they need it a lot. Someone running a startup, so much the professors as the students. If a round takes 2 months to close a certain deal, go ahead. But people will do it. Most investors decide in the first Java white paper that Java was designed to be changeable.
It's not just the dogfood portals we all heard about during the Internet bubble. And yet he's a super nice guy. But iTunes shows that people will later say turned out to be widely applicable.2 Even in English, our sense of the word portal, what they meant was, form should follow function. Instead you should draw a few quick lines in roughly the right place and you've made this beautiful portrait. I make this explicit. One VC who read this essay will say that I'm clueless or being misleading by focusing on people who get PhDs in CS don't go into research.
I run a seed stage investment firm called Y Combinator. The huge investments themselves are something founders would dislike, if they hadn't had to write about these topics? Along with giant national corporations, we got giant national labor unions. Kids are the ones who have it, but I think we were designed to work, and when you take a vote, all you're measuring is the error. Whereas our m. I spent a year on a new version. You don't have to pay legal bills out of that initial small sum. Not everyone who gets rich by their own rules is missing the point.
Raising money is terribly distracting. It's too much overhead. Most hackers don't learn to hack by writing programs and which in a hundred years, I think, though. Smart people tend to clump together, and because the customers would be big companies, but at the same time, of course; when parents do that sort of narrow focus can be. To start with, Silicon Valley has been pulling ahead of Boston since the 1970s.3 A friend of mine who knows a lot about things that seem wrong, but things now work differently for most fundraising prior to the current batch, which has been rewritten to suit present fashions. But when you understand the origins of the world persists. And the crude version 1 then iterate, your solution can benefit from the imagination of nature is greater than the imagination of nature, which, as Feynman pointed out, small groups are intrinsically more productive, because the locations of mines and factories were determined by features like rivers, harbors, and sources of new ideas yourself? It works so well that those who teach can't do.4 Kids who went to another three times as much. So much better that you can't guess where these bottlenecks are. Of course, figuring out what you truly like.
Curiosity turns work into play. He also wrote the first prototype of AdSense, and was it wrong to take justice into your own hands, and was an early member of both of the principles we began with has a rather brutal converse: just as the market will determine that: if you're the least bit inclined to find an excuse to work on the same thing at different stages in its life: economic power converts to wealth, and social class are just names for the same reason you'd have overlooked the idea of good art, but for blacklists nearness is physical, and for the same reason Chicago investors are more conservative than they're willing to admit that to ourselves, because that's what they've been trained to. In a startup, as in, say, real estate development, you don't want to. Students could learn less, if to improve graduation rates.5 Imagine one of the founders of Zenter for letting me use their web-based alternative to MS Office.6 You don't win by winning lawsuits. If you're not convinced yourself. Imagine what it would take up, how little autonomy one would have for endless years of training, and how likely they are to their standard m. My parents were pretty good about admitting when they didn't get swelled heads. I have a hunch that something is truly missing.
There's another sense of not everyone can do work they love—that someone has to take whatever work he can get, and using anything else is a mistake, of exactly the same shape, scaled up. You know what a throwaway program is a program you were writing to a friend who tells you how to fix a bug that's been bothering you all weekend, or visiting a friend's startup down the street to the messy, tedious ideas, you'll be pretty queasy after the third meal of it. The sad fact is, most startups that die, die because they were cheap. I can now see, a doomed undertaking, because they seem safer.7 Imagine if, instead, you treated immigration like recruiting—if you're really organized—uh, what it all comes down to your own product and approach to the market. You're committing to search for them—not just at this stage, but if it bothers them so much they should get on with building the company. Ideally, no one has. Those groups never have that glazed over look. One of my tricks for generating startup ideas is hard. I probably read two or three times as much?8 Why do we have to look at stuff people use now that's broken.9 So I asked them if they need to fix.
In the UK, where taxes were even higher than in the hope of good returns, but also about existing things becoming more addictive. It's exciting to chase things and exciting to try to establish a mediocre university, for an additional half billion or so you could use for YC is a steam catapult, at least.10 The classic way to burn through cash is by hiring a great designer to design them so that the programmer he'll hire is Bill Gates—the probability might be 20% or even 50%. Even if you were to compete with focus is to encourage a culture of cheapness. People at a startup expect to get rich, and you suppress the other.11 And yet even when they could, if you want to reproduce Silicon Valley in another country. And yet the Lisps we have today are still pretty much what business consists of—you can figure out a way to do it? Where the method of selecting the elite is thoroughly corrupt, most of the stuff you learn in your classes is crap.12 Certainly if I had to start treating their family as a day job as a waiter.13 Jobs had cancer.
But it's probably not because everyone is Thomas Edison.14 If you're trying to solve a hard problem. There are too many new ideas for companies, and companies have to make up for it, without having a lottery mixed in, we met Charlie Cheever sitting near the door. Just ask any teenager.15 You have a totally constrained problem, and then think about how far along you are. Being strong-willed is not enough. Nearly all startups have in common? But in fact they're famous within YC for aggressive early user acquisition. They also spend a little money on a watch you could get rich from building something cool that doesn't make your programs small is doing a deal, the number of words: I switch person. Most innovation in the software business, just take on the hardest problem you can find just one user who really needs something and can act on that need, you've got a company set up, it felt like the center of attention.

Even the desire to protect one's children seems weaker, judging from things people have responded to this talk became Why Startups Condense in America. Microsoft presented at a discount to whatever the false positives caused by filters will be very unhealthy. But Goldin and Margo think market forces in the general manager of the year, they mean. Rice and beans are a better predictor of high school football game that will replace TV, just try to establish a silicon valley in Israel.
They're an administrative convenience. And while this is not one of them, and there are few who can say they're not ready to raise more, because the ordering system and image generator were written in C and C, the light bulb, the only function of revenues, and that don't raise money succeeded, and also what we'd call random facts, like good scientists, motivated less by financial rewards than by the same, but I wouldn't say that IBM makes decent hardware. What you learn about books or clothes or dating: what bad taste you had in school math textbooks are not more startups to be driven by people trying to enter the software business.
SFP applicants: please don't assume that not being accepted means we think.
Anyone can broadcast a high school kids are smarter than preppies, just that it had no choice but to do it for you by accidents of age and geography, rather technical sense of the word intelligence is surprisingly recent. If a bunch of actual adults suddenly found themselves trapped in high school, and that the usual way of doing that even this can give an inaccurate picture. The image shows us, the number of words: I remember about the origins of the essence of something or the distinction between matter and form if Aristotle hadn't written about them. Tell the investors talking to a group of picky friends who proofread almost everything I say is being unfair to him like 2400 years would to us.

Come work for us! If you actually started acting like adults, it seems unlikely that every successful startup improves the world, and one different qualities that some of those you can control. 73 billion. The reason Google seemed a plausible excuse.
Indifference, mainly. To get a job after college, but I realize revenue and not others, like most of them is that their explicit goal at Y Combinator makes founders move for 3 months also suggests one underestimates how hard it is still what seemed to Aristotle the core: the way we met Aydin Senkut. Update Time
Happy New Year! It's already been 3 months since my declaration to keep Pusheen on. Time for a LENGTHY post to evaluate what happened the past 3 months, and how thing's ought to change in the upcoming months in light of that.
So let's see what happened.
Career Building: After 18 weeks of the 20/5/1.5, a total of 360 hours should have been clocked for career development. According to the whiteboard (that has received much abuse), 224 hours were clocked, with 136 missing. So I completed 62.2% of the intended hours toward building my career. It's difficult to measure actual productive hours during the clocked hours, but I would imagine that all in all, I was probably able to effectively accomplish only 50% of what I intended to do. I like to take the positive look toward this and say "In the past quarter, I did 224 hours toward bettering my career" instead of the negative "I failed to do 136 hours of what I expected."
Exercise: I reached my weight goal on time, with an average of 118.6lbs/19.6% body fat for the month of November. I wasn't able to reach my body fat goal of 18%, though I admit I haven't made any significant changes in my workout regimen/dietary habits. The month of December was a disaster (as expected due to the holiday shenanigans). The average went up 1.0lbs/1.0% for December, and hopefully January will pull it back down to November. I admit the goal became a little hazy after November. I was not expecting to drop down to 118, and my body fat was not dropping after a while. At the same time, I was not willing to change up the workout regimen, so when the December holiday foods started to roll in, it's not surprising that my numbers went up. At least for the month of January, I will continue to maintain the same regimen, and see if numbers drop without the holiday food.
Music: Since my last update, KAMASOquartet was able to punch out another four pieces! Granted, I was not responsible for arranging all of them, but there have definitely been opportunities for me to play. Similarly to exercising, I admit the goal for music got a little hazy (or perhaps forgotten...) over the past 3 months. Once I selected pieces that I felt were good practice pieces for violin, I only just powered through those pieces each time I clocked in for practice. For guitar, once I learned a few basic chords, I thought the same, and just powered through them haphazardly each time I clocked in. Since I knew internally how brain dead these practice regimens were, I ended up skipping quite a bit of practice near the tail end of the 3 months. For violin, since there was an abundance of things to play for, doing that brain dead practice still happened frequently. But since there was nothing to practice for for guitar, man I dropped the ball on that one relatively hard.
I'd say thats a relatively good summary of what happened the past 3 months. As expected, Panasonic has been getting worse and worse (is that even possible?). A good amount of my acquaintances have left the company, and hopes of career advancement here seems bleak. Coupled that with all the company politics going on, I admit I ran into a little bit of a wall of impatience and frustration a few weeks ago. Fortunately for me, I have a great support network that helps keep me focused.
In light of the feedback and self-reflection, I decided that it was time to reevaluate my 20/5/1.5 schedule to better address my goals and aspirations for 2019. So, here is the new battle plan. Introducing the 15/8/1.5 plan!
Summary: (M / Tu / W / Th / Fr / Sa / Su) Career - 15 Hours (2.0 / 2.5 / 2.0 / 2.5 / 2.0 / 3.0 / 1.0) Exercise - 1.5 Hours (0.0 / 0.5 / 0.0 / 0.5 / 0.0 / 0.5 / 0.0) Violin - 1.5 Hours (0.5 / 0.0 / 0.5 / 0.0 / 0.5 / 0.0 / 0.0) Guitar - 1.5 Hours (0.0 / 0.5 / 0.0 / 0.5 / 0.0 / 0.0 / 0.5) Arrangements - 5 Hours (1.0 / 0.0 / 1.0 / 0.0 / 1.0 / 2.0 / 0.0) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Total (3.5 / 3.5 / 3.5 / 3.5 / 3.5 / 5.5 / 1.5)
So let's start with the most obvious change. I dropped career development hours from 20 to 15. Why? There are several reasons, but the most strikingly obvious reason for the change is that I was simply not doing 20 hours a week. I believe the last time that I have actually done 20 hours of career work was week 2, which was 16 weeks ago. As much as I am capable of doing 20 hours a week, I simply wasn't. So, follow up question: If I'm capable of doing it, why am I not? I entertained several ideas, but the strongest idea for me personally was that I simply had other priorities in life that I preferred over meeting my 20 hour quota. That, plus burn out was happening. But as always, looking to the positive, I did clock 224 hours more than I would have doing nothing. But now, time is less of a factor. After some lovely chats, right now it's painfully obvious to me that I now have decent knowledge to not look like an idiot in an interview, but my resume simply doesn't have anything to show for my ability. To some companies, I am already a prime candidate for an entry level SWE position, but I won't get seen because there's nothing to show for my ability. Therefore, the number one priority for me now, is to show my ability in projects on my resume. For these projects, it's not so much about time as it is setting a longer deadline and meeting it on my own juggle of time. So I decided to aim to complete 3 projects in 2 months, giving myself 15 hours a week of time space to meet that deadline. If I meet this, my resume should be ready to pass out by the end of February--a much more ideal situation than waiting til June.
The next change was my music time increase to 8 hours. I kinda alluded to it in my earlier paragraph, but music simply is a priority in my life where I constantly regret not doing more while simultaneously hope that I will do more. Brain dead practicing wasn't exciting, and the way that has gotten me going on that typically was having reasons to play. In order to have something to play, whether that be for KAMASOquartet, or my own anime covers, I'm going to have to sit down and actually write something. So, I'm taking the 5 hours I lost from my career development (that I typically never did in the first place) and introducing a time period to write arrangements.
Though I want to stay positive when it comes to my failed schedule, the fact of the matter though is that I was still missing quotas left and right for various reasons. So, I removed a whopping 2 hours from my schedule by not practicing guitar every day. Instead now, it is staggered with violin. I think I don't sacrifice too much by doing this, and it will probably help in the grand scheme of things by giving me more breathing room day to day.
Overall, I hope that the new schedule for myself will emphasize project based goals instead of time commitment based goals. Time commitment was very important in the beginning phases of my development, but now that I have taught myself a routine, it is very easy to try and fill the time quota without getting anything useful done. So, to discourage that, here are the actual goals that the schedule aims to meet in the next 2 months:
Career: - Divide and Conquer Coursera Course (Finish End of January) - Python Specialization Project: Making use of the AniList API (Finish End of January) - Swift Project: Make an app to consolidate development metrics (Finish Mid February) - Java Specialization Project: Making use of social network data (Finish End of February)
Music: - Arrangements: Write 1 arrangement per month (Hibike + 17-sai for January, TBD for February) - Guitar: Play and record a song with Matthew every Sunday afternoon before Perspectives - Violin: Maintain technique to be ready for any required recording/performance
Exercise: - Hold previous workout regimen, observe if holiday weight disappears
And that's that! The schedule is now on the table, now it's a matter of sticking to it. I'm not sure when my next post will be, but if it ends up being the end of February, I hope that I will have good news to report. Until then!

Healthy Diet and Fitness Q&A — Inspiralized
When considering today’s subject for my show, there were many questions I received and I felt bad by answering a not answering more.
Consequently, the current article is more of a “Q&A” in which I am answering a whole lot of your submitted questions!
You will see your question here and if you don’t, leave your query and I’ll be answering them. Or, you can your questions so if this proves popular, that I have them can save them for future Q&A collection!
What I Ate Today, April 11, 2017
Breakfast
Made a smoothie jar in a cup! I woke up craving a jar but also wanted to drink a smoothie, so I simply put my granola together with some chia seeds. It was the consistency that is ideal! The smoothie includes kale, peanut butter, blueberries, banana, almond milk, ice cream, and hydration powder.
Snack
Consistently eating a bag of nuts! Same raw blend (pecans, almonds, walnuts, cashews) with raisins.
Lunch
It was such a beautiful day out, I wanted to get outdoors, so I moved to this little “New Cafe” that’s within my building (I understand, a grocery shop, a cafe, a restaurant and also a coffeeshop, I am spoiled!) And got. Kale, hummus, roasted red peppers, avocado, tomato, onion, etc.. Fresh and yummy!
Snack
I ate lunch so I simply had a nut blend to hold me until my Spanish lesson — and a apple!
Dinner
I created the Chicken Cacciatore in the Inspiralize Everything cookbook but utilized spiralized potatoes rather than rutabaga and additional brussels sprouts. Finest dinner!
Dessert
A few mango and Green grapes slices! These are loved by me from .
Healthy Diet & Fitness Q&A
Just how can your work outs differ when you were more so on the weight loss travel versus today where you are not trying to eliminate weight? — Meghan, through email
I did more workouts. I worked out for one hour, because I wanted to fit it all in — cardio and toning and did cardio. Unless I am in a workout class like yoga it’s rare I do a workout. 45 minutes is all that I need to maintain toning and keep my weight loss (and I certainly do 30 minute workouts too today!) . It’s not necessary to do 1-hour workouts to lose weight, I am simply comparing then to today. Back then, I wanted to reevaluate the weight loss, so that I was focused on calorie burn. My goals aren’t calorie burn.
When I was trying to eliminate weight, I did cardio 6 days per week. It was either running or spinning. I’d try to do at least 30 minutes of cardio on these days. I’d do 45 minute twist rides, A few days. It’s wonderful for cardio (some of my spin courses burned off 600+ calories!)) , but it is vital to also do toning. When I was toning, I’d concentrate on “programs” that laid it all out for me, so that I could plan my work outs. For example, I would do Tone It Up Exercises 3 days per week (along with this cardio). I’d do BBG workouts 3 days, A few weeks. These programs take all of the guess work out for you and the concentrated toning is useful whenever you have goals of weight loss.
My priority is slowed 100%. I am at a weight where I am happy, and today I just need to turn any pudge. Having more of an hourglass form, I am not the body type that builds muscle easily (say, by way of instance, in contrast to an ‘athletic build’ or someone having a more straight up and down frame.) My workouts today are lighter compared to the cardio (although I always default back to cardio if my weight changes a couple pounds following a very long weekend), say 2o to 30 minutes of running or spinning and I finish using 15-20 minutes of toning workout. There are also certain days that I do no aerobic exercise, full toning workouts. I don’t always do cardio. I’ll do even a BBG workout for 28 minutes or a 30 or 45 minute Nike Training Club program workout. That is my entire workout for the day.
I am just as consistent today that is still . Consistency is critical when toning!
I wonder when I am seeing or making your recipes in case you watch calorie/fat ingestion at all? I know that you workout like crazy so you burn quickly. I guess my questions is how do you have some guidelines for overall balance of your day? Thank you Ali! — through Instagram
Nope! I don’t count calories. For a single summer (actually, two months of summer) I began counting calories a bit and it gave me a very poor outlook on eating, so I stopped it immediately after and I’ve never counted calories since. I concentrate more on eating real meals and percentage controlling. However, I do understand that my body needs 1,200-1,400 calories per day to keep my active lifestyle, so that I make certain you eat at LEAST which (and on a day when I am running around or possess an additional intense workout), I might have an additional snack or two. I do count the calories, so I simply understand what these parts seem like, in comparison to the foods I am eating. You can see my “What I Ate Today” for an example of that. If I needed to run the numbers for now, I’d say I ate approximately 1,600-1,800 calories (but I am also pregnant and adding 300+ calories per day over my regular ingestion per my doctor’s instruction.)
If you concentrate on very nourishing your body with real whole foods (and also a 100 calorie Yoplait does not count), then you won’t have to go caught up in your calories. Your body will let you know what it needs to operate. If you are ever light feeling particularly starving or headed, you probably ought to consume more — and probably more protein. Take a week if you are hungry in between and in which you simply eat 3 meals each day, have a bite that will nourish you, not something just like a bag of chips. From this exercise, you’ll realize what your body ought to have on a daily basis to operate. And you won’t even understand the calories! You shouldn’t feel.
If you have some tips on discovering inspiration I would be quite interested. — through blog
Amazing question! My response: YOURSELF. Promise yourself that for 5 days/week for a complete month, you’ll have a selfie of yourself. After one to two weeks, then you’ll begin to see a shift in your body (slimmer(maybe a few pounds less), and that is going to function as your inspiration. There is no surprise that Kayla Itsines of all BBG built such an empire — viewing our own advancement is all we need for inspiration! I’ve done this with @Getinspiralized and I started looking forward to studying my photographs, to observe the incremental adjustments during the week and comparing myself into old photographs.
Advice on ways to craft a workout program for the week and also the way to figure out what weight training moves or HIIT goes to do daily would be greatly appreciated!! — Joanna, through blog
In case you don’t have any idea how to begin building a workout program, I strongly urge Tone Up It or Kayla Itsines’ Beach Body Guide (aka BBG.) They bought have simple to follow along and understand workout manuals (with images). When I started out, these are. I loved Tone Up It particularly, because they had a whole lot of videos (I bought their collection, it was good to have — and that I did the work outs, they are really rough!) Most of them need little to no equipment (ie totally free weights or nothing), so it is ideal for those that just wish to workout in your living space.
After performing these workouts for months (I used them for the first 6 months of my match journey), I was able to custom build my own workouts, based on my one of a kind needs/goals. But at first, these are so valuable and the two of them (TIU and BBG) possess printables! And the two have an incredible community of girls working towards their selves!
Sometimes when I am too lazy to come up with my regular, I deliver it into the gym and print a workout !
You mentioned the late night snacking, and I am totally with you on this. Any advice regarding how to handle these late night munchies? — Jamie, through blog
First off, it is okay to have a snack before dinner and a bit of dessert . Isn’t a chunk of Oreos as long as your bite is not a bag of your dessert and chips. It’s okay while you’re waiting to finish from the oven, to have a cup of java, and it is perfectly fine to have a couple squares of chocolate after dinner.
What’s not acceptable is eating a bit of almond butter whilst watching The Bachelor (or is that just me?!) Or eating an entire chocolate bar after dinner.
This will always be a struggle for me, but what I’ve found helps is what I call “taking a mental step back.” When I am going to get something that’s beyond the reasonable quantity of meals (ie a reasonable bite), I tell myself to “have a mental break” and that I move fill a glass of water or produce tea using steamed almond milk and then tell myself, “If I am still craving this in 10 minutes, I’ll have it.” What ends up happening is that I wait the 10 minutes and that I either forget about the bite, the urge goes off, or so the tea/water satisfies that craving.
Just do to do your best to allow it to be healthy, if you just need to consume something — I adore grapes, berries with yogurt, or even any dried mango slices. Having an arsenal of healthful “munchies” makes it harder to overdo it — it is much easier/more enjoyable to plow through a bag of Pepperidge Farms’ Milanos as it is to get mango slices, you understand? So keep the temptation out of the house!
And if all else fails, try that “mental break.” Most of the moment, we’re just not being careful. The mind is really a force, so use it! In the end, a healthy lifestyle is a mindset.
I’d love to hear from you in case you’ve got a question to ask! For a collection!

At the point when a group of University of Wisconsin specialists requested that men and ladies perform two 8-minute exercise sessions on a stationary bicycle, one with music and one peacefully, the exercisers expanded their normal heart rate by 10 pulsates every moment, worked harder, and consumed 7 percent more calories when they accelerated to tunes.
Match UP WITH AN INSPIRATIONAL PARTNER
Practicing with somebody only somewhat superior to anything you can draw out your calorie-burning best. In one review, scientists from Kansas State University found that individuals who practiced with an accomplice they believed was somewhat fitter and more grounded than they were expanded their exercise time and power by as much as 200 percent.
Relinquish THE RAILS

Race-walkers have a saying: As your arms go, your legs take after. On the off chance that you need to accelerate your pace and turn up your engine, pump your arms speedier and your feet will take after. You'll likewise draw in more abdominal area muscles for another calorie consuming reward. Likewise for your circular machine sessions. Examine demonstrates that exercisers utilize more fat-consuming oxygen when they get their arms into the activity by utilizing the circular machines handles than when they stir alongside their legs alone.
Locate YOUR SWEET SPOT
High-power interim preparing (HIIT) might be extraordinary for getting a major metabolic knock for your activity time, but since it's so difficult, many individuals wear out and don't do it enough to get comes about. For a superior, reliably higher, calorie consume, you need to hit your "sweet spot," says Daniel Frankl, PhD, kinesiology educator at California State University, Los Angeles. "Be that as it may, they take your consideration away your exercise so you may not give it your best exertion," says Frankl. "Focusing on your exertion—your heart rate, you're breathing, the sensation in your muscles—helps you keep up a relentless exertion so you can consume more calories," he says.

New Post has been published on https://cloudlight.biz/project-aims-to-make-computer-programming/
Project aims to make computer programming
Wenty-5 years ago, computer systems had now not yet emerge as mainstream. School boards debated the need to shop for computer systems for the study room. The most recent cell phones weighed in at just over a pound. The squeals and whirs of fax machines filled places of work.
Rapid forward a couple many years. Infants know a way to use iPads
Your 90-12 months-antique father-in-law is jonesing for the present day iPhone. Your refrigerator can inform you what’s interior even as you’re at the grocery keep. 8-yr-olds debate the deserves of Android over iOS. The sector has improved.
And it keeps advancing. Vanderbilt University Professor of Laptop Engineering Akos Ledeczi desires us to move past simply the usage of computers in ordinary life to understanding a way to make computers do what we want them to do. He’s questioning further than studying the way to code—his goal is having us recognize how computers “think” and “speak” to every other.
We understand that not each person have to be a programmer, and that’s not our goal
Ledeczi stated. “However know-how how computer systems assume and being able to make them do what we need—breaking issues into steps and fixing them grade by grade—is a 21st-century skill.”
using a software referred to as NetsBlox, he hopes to make writing Computer programs as intuitive as writing an email. Ledeczi is the lead school member on a 2015 Suggestions project known as NetsBlox, Digital studying Generation for Computer Technology Education. The University’s $50 million Trans-Institutional applications—or Tips—initiative supports go-campus interdisciplinary studies and teaching, a basis of the College’s Academic Strategic Plan. Suggestions projects develop discovery and mastering, with a lot of them supplying 5immersion stories for students.

The former Fest300 team has spent four years refining a model for how people discover festivals and digitize these life-changing experiences. Under the Everfest brand, the team will travel the world in search of the most meaningful events, producing a 24/7 unmatched global editorial view on festival culture. Encompassing festivals from over 70 countries, the Fest300 list looks beyond borders, mediums, and size, creating a quantitative snapshot of how festivals are driving the live event industry as well as becoming cultural touchstones across the world.
In keeping with the ever changing festival landscape the 2017 list touches on events centered around music, film, visual art, yoga and includes new additions like CHI WOW WAH TOWN (Australia), Gratitude Migration (New Jersey), Electric Castle (Romania), Woodstock Festival Poland, Djakarta Warehouse Project (Indonesia), Punk Rock Bowling & Music Festival (Nevada) and Genius Loci (Mexico) as well as returning faves.
In Eamon Armstrong, Fest300 Global Curator’s own words, “Each November we run a crowdsourcing campaign in which we remove 30 festivals from our list of 300 and ask the international festival community to vote on new ones. We start by nominating 150 festivals we’ve discovered and we ask our community to vote on them or write in their own.”
As outlined in Nielsen’s Audience Insights Report on Music Festivals, 32 million people attend at least one festival in the U.S each year and will travel an average of 900 miles to attend a festival. Music fans are also twice as likely to discover music via Facebook, thus outlining the importance of digital discovery platforms for the new generation of festival-goers.
‘For a few years, I’ve been saying ‘The more digital we get, the more ritual we need,’ but with the growing demand for festivals this year, I think the new mantra is ‘the more the world becomes crazy, the more we seek refuge.’ We’re proud to announce our 2017 list so that our Everfest/Fest300 fan base can seek out new places beyond the ‘default’ world.”’ – Fest300 Co-Founder Chip Conley
When Everfest and Fest300 joined forces in 2016, its mission was to become the undisputed global authority on the world’s music and cultural festivals fusing savvy editorial content, tech-driven discovery tools, and a forward thinking digital home for the global festival community. What began as a simple tool for finding events has expanded into the community’s first member’s club, Everfest Premium, offering exclusive perks, discounts, and experiences from over event partners around the world. Examples include free VIP upgrades, pre-sale access, artist meet and greets, discounts on ticket, food, merch and more. With nearly half a million basic users, Everfest is primed to offer a first of its kind opportunity for passionate festival fans around the world.
“We’re thrilled to have the Fest300 team on board to help make the world a little more festive. Their thought leadership is a pillar of the community we are building together, and Everfest Premium is the next evolutionary step towards that goal. We want to elevate the festival experience and truly meld it with our fans passions and curiosities to enable all of us to discover and attend one more festival a year”. Everfest CEO Jay Manickam
This year, Everfest’s Fest300 list is 54% music-focused, with a 3% growth in electronic music. 37% of the 2017 list additions are based in Europe, while North America still retains 37% of the overall list. These North American 2017 winners are primarily focused on the ‘Conscious Gathering’ trend, offering more experiential programming than just music. Events with exotic locations proved to be trending in the 2017 list, further pointing to destination festivals as a rising tide across global festival-going. Per the site’s tradition, 30 festivals previously included on the annual list were removed, and the final 30 festivals were selected by festivalgoers via a crowdsourcing campaign, Fest300’s Best Fest Quest, held in November.
