The Hunger Games (Suzanne Collins) "Winning means fame and fortune. Losing means certain death. The Hunger Games have begun. . . . In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV. Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen regards it as a death sentence when she steps forward to take her sister's place in the Games. But Katniss has been close to dead before-and survival, for her, is second nature. Without really meaning to, she becomes a contender. But if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that weigh survival against humanity and life against love."
In the Blood (Jenny T. Colgan) Summary: "All over the world, people are "ghosting" each other on social media. Dropping their friends, giving vent to their hatred, and everywhere behaving with incredible cruelty. Even Donna has found that her friend Hettie, with her seemingly perfect life and fancy house, has unfriended her. And now, all over the world, internet trolls are dyingā¦
As more and more people give in to this wave of bitterness and aggression, it's clear this is no simple case of modern living. This is unkindness as a plague.
From the streets of London to the web cafes of South Korea and the deepest darkest forests of Rio, can the Doctor and Donna find the cause of this unhappiness before it's too late?"
Why it's Slaughter: Yeah, it's anger as a bloodborne disease, basically. You get angrier and more violent, spreading the disease further -- and then your heart can't take any more and it explodes. No one is immune, not even Donna's kindly granddad Wilf. Makes for a change of pace from the myriad war statements to remind us that Slaughter can be extremely local and personal.

As part of the Christmas Invasion novelization, we get a retelling of the Children in Need 2005 short "Born Again," which gives us the first moments of the Tenth Doctor and what Rose first thought of him.
TL;DR: She couldnāt believe he was the same person as the Ninth Doctor and that the new one was a maniacal madman.

I finally bought the second set of ten/Donna big finish audios, so expect me to be off on my nonsense real bad.
Anyway, in One Mile Down Donna offers to get the Doctor a hat that says ākiss meā to cheer him up, and when he says he doesnāt like hats she says it would suit him.
Edit:
Doctor: "There goes young love... Of a sort."
*Donna immediately appears*
Doctor: "Ooooo, can I try your ice cream?"
Donna: "Yeh, but it's pear."
Doctor: "You did that on purpose..."

Your 10 (ish) Most Read Authors (According to Goodreads or Whatever System You Use)
I was tagged by @bookcub - thanks!
What are your ten most Most Read Authors? And how many books have you read by them? Also tag someone who you would like to do this! (Original Instructions (this option wasn't available for me): Scroll to the bottom of your shelves and most read authors is listed underneath. What I did: Exported my Goodreads library and did some Excel magic.)
Note: I only started tracking my reads in Goodreads in 2020 - these stats reflect that.
Terry Pratchett - 15 (Looks like I've read a lot of Discworld in the last few years.)
2. Martha Wells - 10 (Hello, Murderbot!)
3. Chloe Liese - 9 (This is mostly the Bergman Brothers series, which I highly recommend. Lots of neurodiversity rep.)
4. Megan Whalen Turner - 8 (Attolia, my beloved.)
4. Cat Sebastian - 8 (Lots of historical romance.)
4. K.J. Charles - 8 (More historical romance - I love that Charles and Sebastian are tied. I discovered them around the same time, and I frequently confuse them.)
5. Rainbow Rowell - 7 (Novels and She Hulk graphic novels.)
5. Gail Carriger - 7 (I discovered her books a few years ago and ran through a bunch of them, but haven't read another one in a hot minute.)
6. Sarah Andersen - 6 (Relatable comics. Also, read Fangs if you haven't yet.)
6. Olivia Atwater - 6 (Regency/Victorian faerie tales which I adore.)
6. Alisha Rai - 6 (Including one of my favorite romances: Girl Gone Viral.)
6. T. Kingfisher - 6 (Another new-to-me author I began exploring.)
6. Brigid Kemmerer - 6 (The full Cursebreakers series and a few books from other series.)
6. Holly Jackson - 6 (These are not great books, but they are addictive and twisty.)
6. Jenny Colgan - 6 (Easy, seaside, small town reads. Some of the first audiobooks I tried.)
There are 11 (!) authors tied for fifth place, so I'm not going there, but I do want to shout out Talia Hibbert and Maria V. Snyder from that list because I love them.
Tagging (no pressure, just fun!): @godzilla-reads, @brightbeautifulthings, @emspooky, @dkafterdark, @dauen, @bibliophilecats, and anyone else that would like to give this a go!

Women That Turlough Has Been Depicted Being Attracted To
This almost definitely isn't a complete list, but it's what I can definitely confirm.
TW: The two PDA examples are dubcon at best.
Imperial Moon (Past Doctor Adventure, Christopher Bulis, 2000): Lytalia
Gets Turlough to fall in love with her as part of an evil plan. Her species produces pheromones that can sort of mind control humanoid males. Trions are humanoid males, so itās possible that he became infatuated with her because of mind control pheromones that would make virtually any humanoid male fall for her.
The King of Terror (Past Doctor Adventure, Keith Topping, 2000): Eva Oblon
Turlough seems out of character going to a bar, getting absolutely wasted, and actively trying to pick up girls. Eva lures him to her apartment and turns out to be an evil alien who needs alien DNA to take of the world. This leads to an extended period of uncomfortably sexualized torture and her continuing to flirt with him for no practical reason, since heās afraid of her now. He violently murders her and calls her a bitch and I honestly donāt blame him.
Loups-Garoux (Big Finish, Marc Platt, 2001): Rosa Caiman
Itās implied that they have sex but in a way thatās very easy to interpret as chaste cuddling that Rosa sees more significance in than Turlough does. When the Doctor brings her up to Turlough he says thereās nothing between them.
Kiss of Death (Big Finish, Stephen Cole, 2011): Deela
A past relationship on Trion. Turlough was the bad boy Deelaās dad told her to stay away from. In the present, Turlough will only kiss her when literally held at gunpoint.
Gardens of the Dead (Big Finish Short Trip, Jenny T Colgan, 2016): Nyssa
Apparently Turlough had a crush on Nyssa that lasted forever. Because everyone has a crush on Nyssa in Big Finish. That probably includes Peter Davison and at least half the writers.
So we have a situation that can be blamed on mind control, a situation involving alcohol, torture, and a lack of consent, an ambiguous possible misunderstanding, awkwardly executed backstory, and the same crush that basically every character in Big Finish Doctor Who has.
#vislor turlough#imperial moon#the king of terror#loups garoux#kiss of death#gardens of the dead#this is how you can have so many examples of turlough apparently being straight and still have him come across as gay#none of these feel like they should count#accept for maybe deela?

Carnage In New York (David Michelinie and Dean Wesley Smith) "Spider-Man rescues Dr. Eric Catrall, a scientist, from government agents. Simultaneously, serial killer Cletus Kasady is brought to New York to undergo an experiment that would purge him of the Carnage symbiote, which is bonded to his bloodstream. Catrall infiltrates the experiment and in the confusion Carnage escapes, taking Catrall with him. When Catrall turns up in jail, Spider-Man learns he had invented a chemical that drives people insane with bloodlust, and the government wants it back in order to weaponize it. Even worse, the serum is now in Carnage's possession. Spider-Man is forced to go toe-to-talon with one of his most dangerous foes to retrieve the serum, which could make all of New York just as bloodthirsty as Carnage himself."

Are you reading the official novelization of The Christmas Invasion or the earlier fan novelization that was made for charity?
I just finished the official one. I'm a fan of the other work Jenny T. Colgan has done for Doctor Who, so I thought I'd check it out. I didn't know there was a fan novelization though, that sounds neat!

Last Book I...
Thanks for the tags @lemonlyman-dotcom and @bonheur-cafe!
BOUGHT:

Iron Flame by Rebecca Yarros- Went on a search through several Barnes and Nobles to find the sprayed edge edition! Technically I have already bought Onyx Storm...from two places...but I don't have them yet lol.
BORROWED:

As Seen on TV by Meredith Schorr- I creeped on someone at the pool and saw them reading this and it seems EXACTLY like something I'd love, so I'm super excited to try it!
WAS GIFTED

The Wizard's Guide to Defensive Baking by T. Kingfisher- @bluenet13 gave this to me for Christmas and it was delightful! Magic, baking, mystery, it's got it all!
GAVE/LENT TO SOMEONE

Christmas at the Little Beach Street Bakery by Jenny Colgan- I ADORE British women hitting rock bottom and moving to a remote location to find themselves while baking and falling in love. This is the second in this series and Polly, Huckle, and Neil are just as delightful during the holidays as they are during the summer.
STARTED

Someone Just Like You by Meredith Schorr- Okay so TECHNICALLY I haven't started this one yet, but I'm about to! We love a book new in NYC!
FINISHED

The Beauty of Darkness by Mary E. Pearson- A rec from @bluenet13, this one is the finale of The Remnant Chronicles Trilogy and it was quite an epic end. I loved all the side characters and their interactions!
GAVE 5 STARS

Dragonfruit by Makiia Lucier- I got this one from Book of the Month and it was so fun! I love some high seas hijinks during the summer and this one was all of that plus a lot of love and heart. A young woman who is estranged from her homeland, sea dragons, pirates, a prince with the weight of the world on his shoulders, and tattoos that come to life as familiars!
GAVE 2 STARS

Kilt Trip by Alexandra Kiley- I wanted to love this one because it's set in Scotland and I read it in Scotland, but it fell really flat. Enemies to lovers, but like...not a good enough reason to be enemies, not enough time to let it develop, I felt mildly annoyed the whole time!
DIDN'T FINISH

Romantic Comedy by Curtis Sittenfeld- Another Book of the Month and I made it like...two chapters. The characters feel like over-the-top caricatures of people, it was kind of crass, and the SNL type sketches seemed really stupid, not funny. Meh.
Idk who the bookish people are on here, so if I tag you and you don't read, no worries! Tagging @bluenet13, @ladytessa74, @liminalmemories21, @carlos-in-glasses, @welcometololaland, @strandnreyes, @thisbuildinghasfeelings, @cold-blooded-jelly-doughnut, and anyone else who would like to do it!

The novel "In The Blood" by Jenny T. Colgan was published for the first time in 2016.
The Tenth Doctor brings Donna Noble back to her time but things quickly start to go wrong. Donna wants to spend some time with her old friend Hettie but finds her grumpy even though her life is supposed to be perfect. She's not the only person to engage in that type of behavior, and internet trolls increased significantly. However, trolls also began to die.
The Doctor thinks something abnormal is happening to people, stimulating their negative instincts. Unfortunately, someone opened a bar in front of the Tardis and is ready to use violence to prevent him from entering it. The Doctor and Donna must use conventional means to travel around the world in search of the cause of what is happening.

āDo you sleep?ā she shouted up eventually. āThrough all this shouting? Wouldnāt have thought so.ā Returned the voice of the Doctor. āWant some Toblerone?ā āIāve brushed my teeth already! Havenāt you?ā There was no answer. But there was a quiet tinny rustle of Toblerone being unwrapped. Donna sighed. āChuck us a bit, then.ā
