gale’s death isn’t funny because it’s sad and it fucked up jesse for life but also it is EXTREMELY funny because the whole reason gale got wrapped up in this mess is he got gus’s gay little chemistry scholarship and was so good at fucking idk vacuum distillations that gus recruited him to be his special little meth consultant and assigned him to be walt’s new partner. then gale fell in love with this abusive salt lamp of a man to the point where he recited poetry to him and gave him a fruity little present, only to promptly be fired because walt couldn’t go six minutes without psychologically tormenting jesse and then he gets fucking shot in the face by this very psychologically tormented baggy t-shirt boy who is sobbing and crying the whole time?? in his own home?? in his own little gay sandals?? fucking unbelievable.

wish we got more gale and jesse interaction. jesse needed a chem enjoyer in his life who wasn't walt. like i bet gale would've been more than happy to explain to jesse exactly why a polyethylene container was necessary when using hydrofluoric acid

No, Jesse didn’t kill Gale to save Walter’s life. No, Jesse didn’t kill Gale to save his own life. Jesse killed Gale because Walter asked him to.

breaking bad passes the gay man’s version of the bechdel test because
1. it has two gay male characters (gale boetticher, gustavo fring)
2. who talk to each other (flashback of gale setting up the superlab)
3. about a man (heisenberg)

it sucks that so many people who talk about how Jesse is both a replacement for Walt's son and wife thematically end up turning it into a shipping thing
because I genuinely think it's an interesting thing to talk about and it is actually true, I think it ties into how Walt doesn't see other people as people but more as objects for him to own that can serve any role that he wants, and Jesse being thematically associated with women in this dynamic to an extent is one of the things that makes me consider Jesse woman-coded and among other things makes interpreting her as transfem a relevant analysis
but seeing people getting so excited about how Walt "needs" Jesse as that replacement for his whole family is just like... beyond se1 and se2 where Walt needs Jesse for distribution- the thing he "needs" Jesse for is so he has someone to abuse and exert his power over who shows less resistance than Skyler does, and I dunno maybe it's my "emotionally Jesse and the rest of these characters register as real people" autism of the brain but even from a more toxic relationship standpoint I don't really get whats so exciting about their dynamic as an actual ship unless you're taking some major liberties with your interpretation of Walt

watching Breaking Bad 3×8, oh—
Walter White is such a power-hungry man
that's probably the whole point of him as a character, and I really like the way it gradually unfolds in him. such a timid and gentle, quiet man at first reveals himself as vain, greedy, hungry for greatness, admiration and immense reverence. all his deepest resentment and possessiveness manifest themselves so interestingly and somehow correctly. it's just amazing.
this whole plotline with his paradoxical dissatisfaction with Gale because Gale is competent enough in his job, and thus Walt cannot assert himself by correcting and humiliating Gale, as he did with Pinkman, he cannot show his intellectual superiority, which he considers his most important value (I can relate to him in that, honestly, although not on such a scale). He doesn't need a partner like Gale is. he needs a student, someone who will look into his mouth and catch his every word and one who is absolutely hopeless or who considers himself hopeless. he needs someone with unstable self-esteem so that Walt can play on it and satisfy his own ego at the expense of a so-called partner. and unfortunately, he has already chosen Jesse for this role.
In Walt's eyes, Jesse was never his full partner in crime. Walt puts himself above Jesse, sometimes as a parent, sometimes as a smarter and more experienced one, sometimes as a boss. That's why he's attached to him so much. His attachment to Jesse is as an abuser has to his victim. And Jesse feels it, but can't get rid of this connection too.
can't really say anything more coherent about this series yet, I want to watch the whole thing first, but God, so great, so cool.
