The 18th U.S. Air Force (USAF) Fighter Wing mobilized and launched more than three dozen aircraft on Tuesday, its first large-scale force demonstration since the rotating F-22 Raptors arrived to replace the aged F-15 fleet at the base.

The "routine readiness exercise" saw taxiing simultaneously 23 jets F-15C Eagles, eight F-22A Raptors, a trio of HH-60 Pave Hawks, a KC-135 Stratotanker, E-3 Command and control Sentry and RC-135 reconnaissance, before takeoff, a procedure called Elephant Walk.

The succession of launches was designed to test “Kadena’s ability to generate air power quickly” to defend Japan and promote “peace and regional security,” the 18th Fighter Wing said in a statement on Monday announcing the exercise.

The demonstration came shortly after criticism from some defense experts and a group of U.S. legislators who protested against the replacement of permanent fighters by a rotating set.

“Whenever we are displaying our air power, part of this is to reassure our allies that we are capable and reliable,” said 18th Wing spokesman, Lieutenant Colonel Raymond Geoffroy, as the aircraft gathered on the runway. He said that Tuesday's exercise "definitely" took on an additional meaning due to the transition from the Eagles to the Raptors and with the two aircraft in hand.

There are still approximately 50 F-15 fighters in Okinawa, Geoffroy said. He calculated the number of Raptors in about a dozen. A spokesman for the Okinawa Department of Defense, which represents the Ministry of Defense of Japan on the island, said there are 14.

The "gradual withdrawal" will occur in the next two years. The Eagles - at least initially - are being replaced by fifth-generation F-22 stealth fighters in six-month rotating deployments.

The first Raptors arrived on November 4, from the 3rd Wing at Elmendorf-Richardson Joint Base in Alaska. There will be no gaps in the coverage of the fighters, according to the 18th Wing.

Critics said the measure sends the wrong message to China and U.S. allies in the region.

Prominent Republican legislators, Senator Marco Rubio, from Florida; Congressman Mike Gallagher, from Wisconsin, the main Republican in the subcommittee of personnel of the Armed Forces; Senator Bill Hagerty, from Tennessee, former ambassador to Japan; and Congressman Mike McCaul, from Texas, the main Republican in the Foreign Affairs Committee, wrote a letter to Secretary of Defense Lloyd

The group agrees with the modernization, but fears that there will be a "tangible reduction in American advanced combat power" without the permanent presence of fighters, the letter said.

Deadly Mass Shooting At A Walmart In Virgina

Six individuals were shot dead and six others were wounded by a long-time manager at a Walmart location in Virginia[1]. Officers were called to the bustling Chesapeake branch when the shooter started shooting at coworkers in a staff area[1]. Then, according to authorities, he turned the gun and shot himself[1].

The shooting’s cause is not immediately apparent[1]. No one else connected to the attack is being sought by police[1]. Andre Bing, 31, has been identified as the shooter by the police[1].

He was a night team manager and had worked there since 2010[1]. The corporation stated, “We are committed to doing everything we can to support our workers and their families.[1]” Of the six injured, it is known that two are in serious condition and one is stable[1].

At 22:12 local time on Tuesday, the initial police call was placed, and cops were at the supermarket in less than two minutes[1]. The building was evacuated of the 50 individuals who were inside immediately after they entered it, and it was deemed safe an hour later when all the victims had been found[1].

Police Chief Mark Solesky said during a press conference on Wednesday that processing the crime scene would likely take several days and that the FBI was assisting with the investigation[1]. Video of the attack that went viral on social media[1]. Immediately after it happened, there was an eyewitness who was dressed in a Walmart uniform describing what transpired[1]. He claimed that after leaving the staff room, a different employee went inside before opening fire[1].

Walmart employee Briana Tyler spoke with ABC’s Good Morning America, “I looked up and my manager just opened the door and he just opened fire.” Another employee Jessie Wilczewski spoke with WAVY-TV about her experience. Wilczewski had hid under a table when the shooting began; the gunman had spared her[1]. “It didn't even look real until you could feel the pow-pow-pow. You can feel it,” she said,“I couldn't hear it at first because I guess it was so loud. I could feel it.[1]”

According to several workers who spoke with CNN, the manager had previously displayed paranoid behavior and expressed worries that the government was watching him[1]. Local officials stated that the shooter bought the weapon he used the morning of the attack and left a “death note” describing his complaints against various persons in his life[2]. The message, which was discovered on his phone, mentions God, the holy spirit, and the author's perception that his “associates” were making fun of him[2].“The associates gave me evil twisted grins, mocked me and celebrated my downfall the last day. That’s why they suffer the same fate as me,” the note says[2]. “I wish I could have saved everyone from myself,” the note continues,“My God forgive me for what I’m going to do[2].”

Lorenzo Gamble, Brian Pendleton, Kellie Pyle, Randall Blevins, and Tyneka Johnson were identified as the victims by the police on Wednesday[1]. Fernando Chavez-Barron, a 16-year-old victim who had not yet been identified, was named by the city on Friday[2.].

President Joe Biden called the attack another horrific and senseless act of violence[1]. “I signed the most significant gun reform in a generation, but that is not nearly enough. We must take greater action,” he stated[1].

According to the city, the shooter had no prior criminal activity, and the 9 mm gun he used in the killings was one he had bought on Tuesday[2]. A box of ammo and other materials in regard to the 9 mm handgun, box, receipt, and other documents, according to the city's tweet, were found during the search of his residence[2].

This year has seen 611 mass shootings in the United States, making it the second-worst year for gun violence in the eight years since the founding of the Gun Violence Archive, the country's most thorough database of such incidents[3]. Long-standing calls for the country's gun laws to be changed were rekindled following two high-profile mass shootings in May: the attack that left 10 people dead at a grocery store in a neighborhood that was primarily Black in Buffalo, New York, and the Robb Elementary School shooting in Uvalde, Texas, which claimed the lives of 21 people, including 19 children[3].

Since the moment they parted ways, Fernando was all too happy to keep his distance from the great advisor. Hearing the whispers of her moving about the state. Those under his compulsion and those who were under his wing. All sent word back to him. So where ever she was, Freddie made sure he was not. His pride was a little hurt maybe-- definitely. A little pain, she chose her king over them. He’d been  warned, hadn't he? To take better care about who he attached himself to. But as self-serving as Fernando had been back then, it all took a back seat to her. 

Jessie was his match, even if it pained him to say so now, even if he refused to acknowledge it. Instead surrounded himself with distractions and work and forgot the fact that she chose her little family - when he'd been so ready to leave his for her. It was the hierarchy that had been the nail in the coffin. 

No regrets; this is how their kind lived and thrived. Not when they played the great game, But when they made the gameplay for them. They took every action with the firm knowledge that they would win it—each time. Fight dirty— soak the gravel and the cobblestones with the blood of those who stood in their way.  

To be able to say-- I regret nothing. I would do it all over again.

So long as you won, that was all that mattered.

The price of winning, however, had to be paid. There was no guaranty that his staying by her side would end well. It was probably doomed to fail. She is a clever woman, and she must have known this. It is why she made the choice she did because he wouldn't be able to follow. No need to behave; he didn't have to change himself to fit and hold onto the illusion  of power. Because as clever as she was, and much power as he knew her to have. Jessie, like the rest of them, was the king's puppets-- His assessment of what he'd seen and heard over the years. And he'd grown tired of how servile they had become. 

Where were the guts and glory, where were the vampires with backbone? Who craved the violence and real power they weld. He longed for the days of Myla and her reign. So he left, off to find the man Obreyn needed him to. To get away from the noise and the disappointment that his kind was to him. More whispers came over the last few days. Urging him to come back. The Humans had lit the match, and the war was coming.

Centuries, he avoided her like the plague she was; not trusting himself that even after all this time apart, she wouldn't affect him still. Even as he deadened those affections. Pushed memories of her touch, her scent and her voice away. In his subconscious, he recalled the power  that was Fernando and Jessie—debased, delinquents. Blood on their hands and the promise of more sinister things to come. 

I'll see if she's alright, then I'll go. 

It was the only way to quiet his thoughts. He'd waited this long to make sure no one was in the house. Surely she would appreciate the effort-- even knowing she wouldn't. It was an unspoken rule they kept away from each other for a reason: her precious reputation, no doubt. We can't have the advisor to the great overlord Kazmire being seen with a known Anarchist, could we? He didn't bother knocking.; instead, he used a key that was made—a clever girl his Yara. She always knew how to come through for him.

Entering the house, he pocketed it, standing in the foyer. "Now," he called out. Slowly moving deeper into the vipers nest. "Where would the second most powerful vampire be after an attack on her people, hmm?" He took in the neatly arranged Museum. That's what it felt like. Did anyone live here? So orderly, so clean, must be her doing. To match the illusion, clean and pristine"-- surely she isn't locked away in her home when she should be running about trying to clean up her king's mess." he chuckled darkly. Pausing, his back towards the staircase. She had appeared, finally.

"Sorry for the intrusion mi amor, had to make sure you were still alive."

 And if she wasn't? What would he have done. Hunt down, split open the bodies of those who took her from him? A possibility. 

Dark eyes rose to see her and for the briefest of a second, the  façade cracked. In that double relief washed over him: there she stood. In her power and splendor, he might have bent under the weight of her present if not for the simple fact ath he was stubborn to a fault and could never. They stood as equals or stayed out of each other's way. This was the way of things. And just like that, the mask was back up. Those emotions safely locked tightly away. As a colder and more distant stare took hold of his features.

"Ms. Davenport, alive and well. I knew you would be. You weren't dumb enough to walk into a trap."
