Imperial Attendant Jian Shuo, Empress He Lingsi and Grand Marshal He Jin
Three of the biggest opportunists in Emperor Ling's court and, by their good fortune and everyone else's misfortune, the most high-standing.
Something they remain oblivious of, however, is that however high you stand, the more you become a target.
Jian Shuo, once Cao Jie's protege, hopes to fill the spot his master made absent and finds himself woefully inefficient. Though not lacking in low cunning, he lacks the patience and forward-thinking of his master and the respect from his peers that came with it.
Empress He Lingsi is the latest and possibly the most obvious sign of the Emperor's lack of regard to tradition. A butcher's daughter elevated to the Empress's throne is, to many, the ultimate insult and she begins ruling the harem with an iron fist, clashing with the Emperor's mother and other concubines, far too eager to resort to bloodshed with the help of her brother...
He Jin, the butcher's boy turned Grand Marshal of Imperial Han. A hopeless incompetent with an indirectly proportioned ego and an utter unwillingness to accept how out of his depth he is protecting an empire from a nation-wide rebellion, he finds himself outplayed at every turn by his two most capable and ambitious lieutenants, Yuan Shao and Cao Cao. Jian Shuo I've already illustrated once but briefly. He starts to come into his own later but unlike Cao Jie, he forgets how the game is played.
While based on Ancient Chinese headpieces and decor, there is meant to be some allusion to the monstrous Georgian wigs with He Lingsi, bunched up high and appearing taller than she is.

SBMS Clowning Series ☀️ v.3
i wasn’t expecting to post this so soon from the last but here we are….
Tumblr media
this is mainly to clown about the fact that shengyang’s scene where he says jian bing is his charger essentially was his own improvisation. we already talked about this before but thought it’s part of the script. it’s so funny how we cpn certain things because of rumors and then what we speculate is actually true. whether it’s indeed connected to yibo or not, what’s true if that xz has that thought in real life.
the person he loves is his charger. he can hug them and hold their hand and he will have the energy again. 🤍 he added that it’s when to people are busy with their work so when they see each other, they will recharge 👀
if you’re wondering, this what was mentioned in the fake rumors before:
A. When two people meet again after being apart for a while,When the time comes, the younger one will hug the older one, and the younger one will hug the older one. For a long time, the older one asked him what (?). Younger one said it was “charging”.
B. I'm not in a very high mood today at noon. I'm just too tired. I sent a lot of voice messages, but Xiao Laoshi seemed to be filming and didn’t reply. Wang laoshi sighed.
Teacher Wang’s power bank has arrived. ( the power bank in this case, we speculate is XZ who finally answered his call lol )
XZ: Did Xiao Baili eat anything?
WYB: You don’t care whether he eats or not
C. An incident where WYB walked over to XZ and said he was out of battery, and XZ just holds out his hand. WYB gets flustered.
• Another addition to the XZS and YBO similarity. The percentage thing. So yeah. It’s my favorite thing, collecting all the times they used the same idea in their posts.
Tumblr media
• What’s him and being a rapper? LOL. influenced by his husband?
I miss WYB rapping. I wish his single this year will have a rap part please. 🙏🏼
Tumblr media Tumblr media
• In the recent episode of SBMS, shengyang was pitching an idea to jian bing for one of the ads. So it’s about recycling & waste management, his idea was doing it in the perspective of the garbage. something like “personification”. What a coincidence that in One and Only, Chen Shuo was doing the same thing. Although his was promoting the garbage can. This connection is so funny!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and the fact that this happened in Happy Camp. Lol. Their garbage classification song 😂😂😂
youtube
• Shengyang’s house number is 28, and the one in front of them is 23. Lol. The numbers!

If the Bearer of the Mace’s authority didn’t extend to the palaces, who did guard them and who made up their ranks?
Under the Han system, the imperial guards consisted of five corps. Two of these appear to have been professional fighting men who would probably be the ones mobilized in the event of a real emergency. For the other three, we have to understand the peculiarities of Han's bureaucracy.
In order to hold office outside of one's local region (to be a county magistrate or official at court), one usually had to receive a special nomination. After being nominated, a candidate served a probationary period of 1-3 years in the imperial guards. So the other three corps guarding the emperor were made up of these candidates for office. One of these corps was exclusively formed by men of an advanced age and probably wouldn't be expected to do any sort of fighting.
Additionally, since the only adult men who could enter the rear apartments were eunuchs, that's who guarded the imperial chambers. These eunuchs could be very capable in the martial arts and helped emperors overthrow their regents on several occasions. They were entirely separate from the regular guards and were the closest thing to a personal army a lot of emperors had. Emperor Ling tried to expand this with the Army of the Western Garden (which included Yuan Shao and Cao Cao as leaders) under the command of his favored eunuch Jian Shuo, noted for his martial prowess.
After Emperor Ling's death, these two groups fought and the eunuch forces were annihilated. Dong Zhuo seized control and the emperor was "protected" by the personal troops of whatever warlord was in power.
Titles associated with the Han system of the imperial guards still appear during the Three Kingdoms, in all three of them. This suggests that the old imperial guards were restored in each state. However, as none instituted Han's recruitment policy, we can guess that these were all professional soldiers, not candidates for office.

Brothers of Yuwen Tai (ZS10)
[And three out of five nephews. A certain common fate appear.]
The Benevolent [hui] Duke of Shao, Hao, was Taizu's oldest brother. August Emperor De married Ms. Wang of Lelang, this was August Empress De. She begot Hao, next Duke Jian of Qi, Lian, next Duke Zhuang of Ju, Luosheng, and next Taizu.
Hao was by nature extremely filial. When August Empress De collapsed, his mourning damaged his health and went beyond ritual requirements. His district and partisans altogether respectfully marvelled at him.
August Emperor De fought with Wei Kegu at Nanhe [?] in Wuchuan, approaching the columns he fell off his horse. Hao, together with several riders, ran to the rescue, and struck and killed several tens of people. The traitorous multitudes split and scattered, and August Emperor De therefore managed to get on top his horse, withdraw and leave. Shortly after the traitors' pursuing cavalry greatly arrived, and Hao thereupon fell in battle.
Beginning of Baoding [561 – 565], he was retroactively conferred Grand Master, Great General of the Pillars of State, Great Paramount Steward, Great Chief Controller of the Various Army Affairs of Heng, Shuo, Etc. Ten Provinces, and Inspector of Heng province. He was ennobled Duke of Shao state, with an estate of 10 000 households. His posthumous title was Benevolent [hui]. Hao had three sons, Shifei, Dao, and Hu. Hu has a separate biography.
Shifei was aged 15 when Duke Hui died, he pitied himself for being fatherless ahead of time. He served his mother with a reputation for filial piety. Middle of Yong'an [538 – 531 AD], Taizu entered the Passes. Shifei was unable to leave his mother, and thereupon stayed behind at Jinyang. When Taizu settled Qin and Long, Shifei was murdered by Shenwu of Qi.
Beginning of Baoding [561 – 565], he was retroactively conferred Great General, Junior Paramount Steward, Great Chief Controller for the Various Army Affairs of Ji and Ding Etc. Provinces, and Inspector of Ji province. He succeeded to the feudal rank of Duke of Shao state, with the posthumous title Luminescent [jing]. His son Zhou inherited.
The Simple [jian] Duke of Qi杞, Lian, as a young child was yet prudent and full-hearted, and when approaching a foe he was resolute and bold. He accompanied August Emperor De to pressure Ding province. The army was at Tanghe, they thereupon died together.
Beginning of Baoding [561 – 565], he was retroactively conferred Envoy Holding the Tally, Grand Tutor, Great General of the Pillars of State, Great Minister over the Masses, Great Chief Controller of the Various Army Affairs of Ding, Ji, Etc., Ten Provinces, and Inspector of Ding province. He was ennobled Duke of Qi杞 state, with an estate of 5 000 households. His posthumous title was Simple [jian].
His son Yuanbao was murdered by Shenwu of Qi. Beginning of Baoding [561 – 565], he was retroactively conferred Great General, Junior Minister of the Masses, Great Chief Controller for the Various Army Affairs of You, Yan, Etc., Six Provinces, and Inspector of You province. He succeeded to the feudal rank of Duke of Qi杞 state, with the posthumous title Ardent [lie]. Used the Duke of Zhangwu, Dao's son Liang as heir.
The Strong [zhuang] Duke of Ju, Luosheng, as young relied on gallantry and placed high martial skill. Reaching his prime, he had great measures, was fond of giving and liked gentlemen. The worthy and capable of the northern provinces all associated with him, yet in talent and ability many came out beneath him.
When Ge Rong routed Xianyu Xiuli, he then used Luosheng as King of Yuyang, continuing to lead August Emperor De's remnant multitudes. At the time people all called him out as Luoshang the King. Luosheng was friendly with generals and soldiers, and in his following had many valorous and brave. Arriving attacks and battles, there never were any who blocked their spear-points, and thus their conquests and captures was often ahead of the various armies.
Erzhu Rong settled East of the Mountains, gathered the various prominent and outstanding, and moved them to Jinyang. Luosheng at the time was among the captives. Rong heard especially about his fame, and in his heart dreaded him. Soon after he was murdered by Rong.
Beginning of Baoding [561 – 565], he was retroactively conferred Envoy Holding the Tally, Grand Guardian, Great General of the Pillars of State, Great Revered Elder, Great Chief Controller of the Various Army Affairs of Bing, Si肆, Etc., Ten Provinces, and Inspector of Bing province. He was ennobled Duke of Ju state, with an estate of 5 000 households. His posthumous title was Strong [zhuang].
His son Puti was murdered by Shenwu of Qi. Beginning of Baoding [561 – 565], he was retroactively conferred Great General, Junior Lineage Elder, Great Chief Controller for the Various Army Affairs of Si#, Heng, Etc., Six Provinces, and Inspector of Si# province. He succeeded to the feudal rank of Duke of Ju state, with the posthumous title Stately [mu]. Used the Duke of Jin, Hu's son Zhi as heir.

I’m running out of page slogans.
So sorry it’s been so long since I uploaded more comic pages. I’ve been pursuing other outlets. I know have a Tapas Page and could really use some readership if you’re interested.
https://tapas.io/series/The-Tale-Of-Cao-Aman/info
But yeah, I enjoy making Cao Jie and Dou Wu good foils for each other. Both want all the power over the Emperor but while Cao Jie’s all flattery, Dou Wu just blusters and makes threats.
Hope the rain effects look alright.
And our first appearance of Jian Shuo. He’ll be important later.

Chunyu Qiong seems to be one of those generals who is known mostly for fucking up his last battle (losing the storage depot to Cao Cao). You've said other generals with similar reputations, like Guanqiu Jian, Ma Su, and Cao Xiu, are better than their 'loser' reputations indicate. Is Chunyu Qiong also better than his reputation, or was he as much of a failure as he's usually perceived to be?
Chunyu Qiong is a good example of your typical Han-era officer/official. He was from a family of some small promenance. Among his generation we can find a few other significant members like the eunuch Chunyu Deng and high minister Chunyu Jia. Qiong is first mentioned as part of Jian Shuo's Western Gardens army in 188 along with Yuan Shao, Cao Cao, and some others. He appears to have remained attached to Yuan Shao and was likely a family client.
