Sometimes I get a word stuck in my head. Something will make me think of a really random word, and then I’ll be like, Where did THAT come from??
This evening the word “caelestis” came into my head. And I’m like, Where do I know that word from? I never took Latin. I know it means “heavenly” tho...
And the moment I knew the meaning of the word, a longer phrase popped into my head: “rex caelestis”. Heavenly king. And I realized we must have sung a religious song in Latin that had the phrase, which meant it was a song I sang in County Chorus, because that’s the only place I ever sang in Latin.
And then a moment later the actual TUNE for that phrase of the song came into my head! And I was like, “It’s from Movement 2 of John Rutter’s “Gloria”, which we sang my senior year, which was 2004. Which was 19 years ago. ...How the FUCK do I still remember this tune??”
That was a ride...
Anyway, I looked it up, and there’s a REASON I remember that bit of the tune: because it is DRAMATIC. Movement 2 is really beautiful--parts of it sound like Tolkien elf music!--and the phrase “Rex Caelestis” is the climax of the movement. It happens precisely at 4:00 here (it’s hard to tell what they’re singing there because the accompaniment is so loud). If you want to hear the build-up to that climax, you can try starting at 3:10.

Rutter’s “Gloria” was a pain in the ass to sing because it was FORTY-TWO PAGES LONG (and that was just the choral music!), but it’s fun listening to it again. I may have to download it.
here’s a @sundayhymnsing contribution from me! I was looking for something that lent itself to a Thanksgiving mood, so here’s verse 1 of For the Beauty of the Earth (John Rutter version, which I adore).
The first... line? Line and a half? Two lines? idk, of John Rutter's The Lord Bless You And Keep You. Somebody pick it up after this. Pardon my pitch.
(feat. the top of my head at the end)
also pardon my really bad singing in general xD and also don't ask what key it's in I went with whatever felt comfortable that day, which was probably a tone or two higher than I usually would but that was the most comfortable range then
In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I shall not be afraid. What can flesh do to me?

“More than an end to war, we want an end to the beginning of all wars.” ~ Franklin D. RooseveltWe watched two documentaries about war yesterday. One was about the Korean Conflict, the other was about World War 2. No matter what your feelings…
