But who were these people, according to some they were Welsh who had come over in the 11th century. According to others they were albinos. Still according to others they were a tribe like the Cherokee who just were nocturnal instead of diurnal. We discuss the Southern Appalachians where they made their home, theories about who they might have been and give our best guesses as to what this ancient Cherokee game of telephone was discussing in this is it real or is it folklore episode of the Family Plot Podcast.

Second Half Blitz Repels Rebels

MARYVILLE—Jack Tirgrath scored a goal and an assist as Bearden’s second half rally turned back Maryville 4-2 Tuesday at John Sevier Elementary field.

The first half delivered a fast-paced and evenly matched forty minutes that went to the break tied at 0-0.

Just after the second half kickoff, Jack Raulston broke things open when he won the ball at the arc, then quickly found a gap to score from twenty yards, showing off his left foot for a second straight game.

Three minutes later, Dillon Sims slipped a beautiful, short cross to Omar Hewezi in close, who buried it to put the Bulldogs up 2-0. 

Tirgrath’s goal came off a long arching pass into the box from Lucas Ford, as he alertly settled and put it into goal. Minutes later, the hustling, senior midfielder launched a shot from the right flank that the keeper mishandled, and sophomore Omar Ardahji quickly pounced and netted the ball from six yards. 

Despite being down two goals, the Rebels attacked the net relentlessly, firing eight shots-on-goal in the second period. Bearden goalkeeper Logan Nelson was impenetrable however, blocking, punching, saving, and clearing any and all shots as he blanked the opposition in yet another impressive performance.

Middle back Cole Stopka read and erased any threats to the backline, and showed vision from the backfield as he initiated several attacks from long range. Encroaching outside defender Nic Prins controlled his right lane from goal line to goal line, and junior forward Jashua Garcia showed some fancy footwork late as Bearden iced the game. 

Two late, unlikely Rebel goals, both during the seventy-fifth minute, were surely caused by the full moon that appeared as darkness fell and the clock ticked down on the final 4-2 Bearden win.

It all began in the year 1784 when a group of brave pioneers and settlers sought independence from the state of North Carolina. Led by the charismatic and determined John Sevier, these men and women yearned for self-governance and dreamed of creating their own sovereign state.

Inspired by the ideals of liberty and freedom, the citizens of Franklin embarked on a remarkable journey. They crafted a constitution, elected their officials, and established their own system of justice. The state of Franklin was born, named in honor of Benjamin Franklin, a revered statesman of the time.

Two-thirds of the way through the flight, Molly desperately wanted fresh air. The cabin was warm and hazy with cigarette smoke. Carefully she unwrapped her ancestor's fragile journal, her elbow touching her father's arm.

The journal had "Mary Catherine Duff" penciled in cursive on the inside cover, and the first entry was marked September 1780. Molly did the math: Mary Catherine would have been 15, just a year older than she was now.

Mary Catherine's diary started as she rode in a horsecart with her father, aunt, three male cousins, and two brothers. They were headed for the mustering site where all of the men - farmers, by and large - would head east to meet Tory troops under the command of Patrick Ferguson. Mary Catherine's family members would be under the command of John Sevier.

"Dad, did Mary Catherine's father survive?"

Mr. McIntire, who had been napping, opened his eyes. "I'm not sure, sweetie," he said. "Or her brothers or cousins. I know about our Illinois ancestors, but not much of what happened in North and South Carolina. Hopefully we'll find out when we go to courthouses on this trip."

Mary Catherine also spent several paragraphs, in tight cursive that Molly strained to read, talking about someone named Micajah.

"Who is this?" Molly asked her father, pointing down to the unusual name.

"Oh wow," her dad said. "Micajah is your, let's see, seventh great grandfather. At this time though - at the battle - he was Mary Catherine's beau."

Molly heard static and the voice of the pilot telling them they were landing. She carefully repackaged the diary to read more later.
