i think the thing that bothers me the most about the recent total drama season is just that there was absolutely zero desire for characters to grow or have a complete arc of any kind. emma got to do nothing, just started the season broken up with chase but didn't really get to form any new relationships (or make up w her bestie from last season.......bowie and emma i miss u) before she left. the cheating in challenges arc between bowie and raj never got solved. priya's entire storyline revolved around caleb and there is no conclusion to be had from their plot, they got together even though caleb is a shitty spineless noncomittal boyfriend to her. caleb Has this issue and nothing comes of it except for like cheap "tension" in the ep where priya gets eliminated. julia has Nothing going for her except that she's Mean and she's Good At The Game and is the reason behind HALF of ALL THE ELIMINATIONS and it all happens OFF!!! SCREEN!!! like heather had mad plot armour in her seasons but god at least she was fun to watch. zee did nothing, not nearly as entertaining as he was last season. they set up a GREAT opportunity for scary girl to come back for Vengeance after being eliminated in the first ep and then do Nothing to follow up. mk is literally glued to julia at the hip and gets no time to shine on her own. BOWIE gets eliminated IMMEDIATELY when the teams merge???? axel and ripper having nothing going for them after they get together and overstay their welcome. DAMIEN! DOESN'T! GET! TO! KEEP! HIS! IMMUNITY! IDOL! and we don't fucking see julia actually take it from him!!!!!!!!!! it's just like they didn't bother with Any interesting plot decisions for any character just to prop up julia who herself doesn't even get to be entertaining. she has some funny lines, sure, but she takes up so much gaddamn screentime and for WHAT.

Usually I only slightly alter the designs of the guys in my verse, so they're still recognizeable; even characters like Hilda and Bianca (complete outfit overhaul) retain their hairstyles, while Cheren (who has the biggest design change) retains some aspects of his design (the ahoge, the hair flaps, the pin).

Shauntal is a character that I really wanted to have a complete design change with the exception of her palette, since I had a big idea for her! Aside from being Hoennian (Filipino) like a couple of other Blur/Blight guys, I wanted to base her off Maria Clara- the parody of a "perfect Filipino woman" by Jose Rizal, a writer in the Philippines.

Though, Shauntal is also slightly a parody of Jose Rizal herself- she studied medicine and practices her faith, but overall, that's where the similarities end!

She's a silly novelist who is smarter than her whimsical personality lets on- and she takes Bianca under her wing to assist her with writing books about the rediscovered legends of the parties of Truth and Ideals.

watching a bad horror movie called The Being whose producer, best known for directing seminal 70s porn parodies Flesh Gordon and the one Alice in Wonderland with the Tweedle twincest, hired his wife to direct despite her having no formal training or experience

and then he somehow suckered Martin Landau AND Jose Ferrer into playing actual roles (did they owe him money?)

anyway I just attempted to use my horror movie party trick, which is counting down to a jump scare, except I couldn't because Jackie Kong hasn't been through the same education as everyone else and therefore does not time her monster attacks six to eight seconds after the fake jump scare

the print on Prime is bad enough, and the outsider quality intriguing enough, that we are now stopping halfway through so we can get it on blu-ray because we are fucking degenerates (positive)

So basically it’s a Hazbin Hotel au with the characters swapped with official characters, ocs, and actual bloggers within the Giacomo fandom on tumblr. (Yes the beloved bro is the equivalent to god of course) (Also some plot points are changed and personalities aren’t identical)

jose chung's from outer space is just absolutely batshitly fantastic like. it's a story about stories, about memories and subjectivity and self-narrativization of memories, how stories can change memory and memories can be led. it's a story about the story of the x-files and also a parody of the x-files while also still being a straight x-files episode. and it's also a succinct tongue-in-cheek broad overview of like, the various manifestations of ufo movements. this little episode packs so much all in there i'm just astounded

my favorite x files episodes in each of the first 5 seasons

“ice” (1x08)

“one breath” (2x08)

“jose chung from outer space” (3x20)

“memento mori” (4x14)

“bad blood” (5x12)

such a tense episode and really felt everybody’s stress in this scenario (even if you’ve never seen the x-files before i feel like you can enjoy this episode as if it’s a survival/horror movie) and the elements it reveals and ways it tests mulder and scully’s relationship really pulled at my heartstrings (“for God’s sake: it’s me” always makes me clutch my chest)

“one breath” (2x08)

love the way scully’s state is depicted artistically but mostly i’m moved by the devotion mulder shows to scully (clutching my heart once again) between his initial rage arriving at the hospital and his moving speech to scully before being moved to pray for her (even in just season 2 i understood how much that meant for him) - also melissa scully dropped an absolute BANGER of a quote with “just because it’s positive and good doesn’t make it silly or trite”!

“jose chung from outer space” (3x20)

honestly remember loving this episode for a lot of the same reasons as “bad blood” - unreliable narrators are always fascinating to me as artistic takes in any media and this was so funny and creative between bleeping out words and the way mulder and scully acted (all in all felt like a parody of an x-files episode and i’m here for it)

“memento mori” (4x14)

hot on the tail of an episode i (and i think many other people) kinda hate (i get its purpose but of course i’m perpetually rooting for mulder-and-scully as soulmates) is this hard hitter and honestly the way they both deal with something this serious and imminent was really moving - and for the same reasons i love “one breath” i’m moved by the way mulder takes dealing with scully’s cancer so hard (they’re partners and best friends and linked in a way not defined by traditional love of any form) also the discussion at the end touches me and BUH clutching my heart once again

“bad blood” (5x12)

honestly i think this was one of the first x-files episodes i saw before i ever started the series chronologically and so of course i didn’t fully appreciate it but i still found it very entertaining - having finally caught up through 5 seasons it’s SUCH a good silly take on yet again unreliable narrators but also a kind of parody of the show itself: a teenage pizza delivery vampire is such a refreshing take and the absurdity of playing upon popular beliefs about vampires within the scully-and-mulder way of operating is just so entertaining (besides: i read something recently about how mulder and scully’s individual tellings of the stories reveal the insecurities they possess about their roles in the partnership with each feeling like a sidekick and i found that a really interesting take)

*p.s. some of these i waffled back and forth on cause there are so many good episodes but this is what i settled on
