Yugi Amane Isn't Supposed to Live
Other than my False Mystery Hanako theory/AU, I have another. That Yugi Amane's death is a set in stone event. Like think of time as being able to be changed, like by the Clock Keepers, but with certain points that cannot, at least not without disrupting the natural flow of time and events.
I believe Amane's death was one of these events. Everything around it can be changed, but he will be dead at 13. There's something extremely important about the event of his death besides the creation of Hanako, and by changing the timeline to one where Amane never dies, they've avoided something pivotal. Something that cannot and should not be avoided.
And thus, they've caused a rip.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
One minute he's there, and then, with no sudden sound, everything has reverted. It's a storage room with no teacher inside. The universe trying to reset itself, to get rid of what is essentially an extreme anom9ly, an impossibility. Amane is supposed to be dead, and his continued and sudden existence rebels against time itself.
Tumblr media
Granted, Tsukasa did say the time was 'unstable', and Yashiro says this could be from a past timeline, which I agree with. It's definitely the past timeline leaking into this one. But what's important is what 'unstable' means in this context.
Is it unstable as in multiple timelines can mush together? Or is it unstable because it's able to fix itself with time as it is?
However, it's also important not to put too much weight in Tsukasa's words. Though he doesn't lie very often, he does twist his words and purposefully be misleading, as well as the fact that JSHK is no stranger to having characters just be outright wrong about certain things.
Evidence for this is the fact that upon seeing Amane as a teacher, this is the FIRST TIME any timeline differences have presented themselves. If it were about the festival itself, and nothing else, there would've been more inconsistencies with events. More people appearing and disappearing, more places changing, etc. But there's not. It only happens when Yashiro sees and, noticeably, speaks to Amane.
Tumblr media
I believe that what this is, is time itself (personified, for the sake of easier explanation) is attempting to fix the removal of a stationary event. The Clock Keepers removed this unmovable event, and using the time instability, it is perhaps being all focused on fixing Amane's existence. Any existence and interaction with him must be erase, because he should not be alive.
JSHK puts forth the lesson that death is both unavoidable and unchangeable, in the forms of Yashiro's lifespan, Mitsuba's car accident, Hanako's suicide, and Tsukasa's murder. Writing wise, suddenly bringing forth the ability to change people's deaths with time powers would be unwise, and make a lot of the past efforts of characters seem futile.
Also writing wise, JSHK has put so much emphasis on Hanako's death being an unchangeable fact that never doing something with that unchangeable aspect would be a waste.
And lastly, Hanako is, himself, a deeply tragic character. Seemingly destined to die young by countless fates.
Tumblr media
If Tsukasa didn't go into the pit, he would be dead before double digits by that sickness. Tsukasa does exist, and there's nothing yet to imply that the sickness was the influence of a supernatural, so Amane would be dead, and there would be no pit to save him. Specifically the entity in that pit was destroyed.
So without the pit and wish to save him, Amane was going to die young anyway. So logically, in a timeline without the pit, he would've been dead much younger than 13, let alone a teacher.
And the ages don't quite line up, do they? He was 13 in 1969, and at current time in the manga, that's over 50 years later. He should not be a 20 something looking adult.
Because of the Clock Keepers interference, they've made several impossibilities, all hinging on the fact that Amane should not live past 13. 13 is, after all, an unlucky number (The Last Supper, 2012 Apacolypse date, the "successful failure" of Apollo 13 one year after Amane's death [another space reference], as well as many people thinking it represents 'death').
His death is, seemingly, far more important than his life, and necessary for time itself.

TBHK spoilers; don't read unless you're caught up with the manga.
Why have, at least from I've seen, most people in the fandom forgotten about Kou's desire/contemplation on becoming a supernatural?
In the far shore arc, after the Severance, it's is shown that Kou had a conversation with Natsuhiko regarding this topic, though we don't actually see the conversation. He's asked Teru what he thinks of Kou himself becoming a supernatural. He also seems to pick up on the information that eating a supernatural makes you become one.
I know this arc was around a year ago but I feel like it was either
An unessassary plot point that was scrapped OR
foreshadowing
I feel like, once we get back to the main timeline, that will probably be Kou's main conflict (after everything with Mitsuba dying AGAIN is resolved. Though, we don't know if he's actually dead or just in pieces like at the aquarium.)
I really hope this plot point gets brought up again because if not I'll feel like an idiot :3

okay fine. I need people to know this.
I feel like most tbhk fans are Christian from America and Europe. So they probably don't really think about the religion in tbhk but it actually has such a big role.
I'll get straight to the point, all of tbhk (or at least main charactes and the plot) is revolved around the worship of Kami ( 神 ) gods, spirits and supernaturals alike.
ThE most obvious ones are the seven mysteries themselves, yako in a kitsune (litterally fox) a fox spirit/yokai whom like to pull pranks of humans either by shaoeshifiting, seducing or even killing at points, this can be seen in yako's sort of cocky personality. Yako is more specifically an Inari statue of an Inari temple for the goddess of agriculture, they say it protects crops and foxes.
Tsuchigomori is a tsuchigomo (literally earth spider) it's a giant spider who can be at least as tall as 10 meters. In one story, minamoto no yorimitsu (or raiko) killed one and had found multiple skulls inside, obviusly implying that the creature eats humans.
Hakubo is an Oni, a general word for demonic creatures in Japanese, thought I can't pin point which exact one. Another story involving yorimitsu is the drunken demon, when hakubo was found by the exorcist he said to have given the biggest Oni poisoned sake, as the real story says that three old men gave yorimitsu and his men sake that revealed the oni's real appearance but didn't hurt humans because he prayed at 3 nearby shinto shrines, and later slashed his neck like in the original text.
Hanako is straightforward but it is different in almost all prefectures of japan.
The gist of it is that hanako was a little girl who died either by herself of by her classmates in the girls bathroom around 5-10 years old. She can grant your wish but is you make her angry she'll curse you with a painful and slow death that'll happen very soon. One prefecture even says that she died in the nuclear blast during the last years of ww2.
Im not sure where nº3, nº1 and nº4 come from.
Now Onto the more subtle details, you might ask "hold up Roy, but Japanese buddhisim is very in touch with supernaturals aswell, how do you know if it's japanese buddhisim or shinto?"
Well let's talk about the minamotos. As you might've read, yorimitsu killed many yokais, so he would be called an exorcist where now are kou and teru, the staff kou has is real and is in some temples, teru's bracelet wards off evil spirits in shinto (rather not talk about the Buddhist thoughts on it....) .well teru's blade is obviously not real as a sword like that would've been impractical.
The temple where Teru and Akane go during the severance is a shinto shrine, we can see this from the Torii gates and the architecture as well. The workers at the temple are also not bald therefore they aren't Buddhist monks. It was also very customary to serve tea to the visitors. On the front gate of the shrine there at this 'weird Rope' with papers attached on it, it's on most temples and its a direct reference to a story involving amaterasu , the sun goddess, wich i wont get into.
The train to the farshore is actually a story itself and the place being full of water isn't just an artistic choice but it rapresents the river to the farshore.
Haha wow this is all to conviniet, yeah I believe in shinto bye I'm writing this in the fucking school bathrooms. Need to start school soon bye.

Oblivious hypocrisy?
This post is about supposed hypocrisy within Tsukasa. Theory.
To start off, let’s go over his general beliefs that have been shown throughout the manga since day one.
Tumblr media
Tsukasa belives supernatural and humans should be whoever they want to be, they should be together if they desire to. And if that’s enough to end the world, then it’s a done deal.
I find it interesting, out of everything that interesting about Tsukasa, that he thinks people should get whatever they desire. Within reason, authenticity, and if they’re willing to pay the price. With those things, it really doesn’t matter what your wish is, or who you hurt to get it. He’ll forgive everything.
Tumblr media
No.1: He wants people to have whatever wish they want, whatever desire they have.
This really plays into his part on Sakura’s team as well, as her assistant. She’s selfish for wanting to wipe out everyone, every living/existing being just so she could go ‘outside’ and be free. But that’s what she wants, and she’s sure she’s truthful about it, that she’s truly happy.
So in Tsukasa’s eyes, that’s ok.
Tumblr media
No.2 is: That he believes wishes and desires and wants are endless.
A human, a supernatural, existing beings don’t stop wanting. They’re always going to want something, we are always going to have desires and wishes.
He’s known this ever since he was 4 years old, when he got trapped in the Red House. In the Red House, we can see that Kou got put through many trials of his wants projecting at him. And they didn’t stop until they got to Nene and he refused all of them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They are even things he didn’t even realized he wanted.
That’s because they’re coming from the heart, where the authenticity lies.
Tumblr media
Tsukasa has seen person from person walk into the house wanting their wishes to come true. He knows how this works. A wish for a price, no matter how many wishes there are, they’ll have to be payed for.
But there is no end it, no boundaries to what they can wish and what they can’t. As long as it comes from the heart, maybe even portrays in front of them like with Kou.
So, two clear beliefs. People should have whatever they want, beings don’t stop wishing.
Now let’s see how those two things are shown by Tsukasa himself. Let’s see if he fits his own expectations.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tsukasa replies with a chapter long explanation on why and how his wish already got granted.
Kou asks Tsukasa what his wish is, why hasn’t his wishes been projected like his has. Tsukasa says he had no other wishes then what he’s already got granted, with the cost of sacrificing himself, and having to stay in the Red House.
He has no other wishes, supposedly. By his own words. He’s saying he’s never wanted anything more, he’s never even thought of anything more.
To Tsukasa, he really just hasn’t thought of anything more, what more could he possibly want.
Being in the Red House for so long, having to see people come to get a wish granted with their prices as well. He’s been busy peering into other people’s wants and desires. Almost noisily, as this has become his new interest, fixation. Wishes, wants, desires. Impulses, and inclinations too.
But he’s so busy with that, he can’t even think to peer into himself. Figure himself out.
Tumblr media
You could think this was his only want, but then we see later that that’s incorrect.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tsukasa says he knew how to get back home, he just didn’t go because he thought it was for the best. He mentions ‘holding back’, which just brings me back to the whole concept of that in TBHK, and Tsukasa’s obvious interest in it.
So I find it wondrous how he’s saying he himself stopped holding back at some point.
Stopped holding himself back from being with the people he loves most, with Amane and his parents. Now just acknowledging that he’s had the desire to go back. And he even invites the Red House Darkness ( Is that what we’re calling it? ) to come with him.
Though, despite him letting go of his swear of not wanting more, this isn’t reaching his expectations at all. This was, for all we now, one occurrence.
Supernaturals and humans should be however they want to be? Has he ever abstained that from himself?
He’s always wanting people like Mitsuba, Shijima, Sakura, Amane to embrace their aspirations, no matter how selfish or fantastical they may be. He’s always pestering about wishes, this and that, to whoever.
But, he’s never once thought about himself, has he? Just once? It seems so, cause currently ( In the chapter 110 ), here he goes again. Trying to make two wishes come true, Sakura and Amane’s both. At the same time.
And something I’ve also noticed about him is that, he may be truthful, but there are times where he isn’t willing to share. I can point out occasions, but I think this is implying more.
Tumblr media
He can shy away from things, questions, topics. Involving his own feelings? Like his feelings about thunder?
He can get quiet, wide eyed, looking everywhere else?
Well, that’s ironic, giving he always wants to know the feelings of others.
Amane, grabbing his face, trying to see his expression, because I think to Tsukasa that’s a way to read people. Just through the face they’re making? Hmm..
Tumblr media Tumblr media
With Sakura too, like shown in the other imagine above.
Mitsuba as well.
Tumblr media
But.. Then he hides his face when it comes to some situations? I wonder.
That exes all of his beliefs/expectations out.
He doesn’t even make it close to meeting them.
Tsukasa’s all too selfless, and with his overbearing appeal to wishes, wants, desires, selfishness, aspirations, etc etc. It clouds his brain from focusing on nothing more than other’s.
And I’m always so confused when people call him selfish. They may be thinking of his twin. Their almost complete opposites, after all.
I feel like this shows a sort of oblivious hypocritical behavior. His behavior contrasts his beliefs and feelings.
I don’t think anyone would have took him for the hypocrite. Even though I don’t think he himself even has a clue.

Amane knew his time was short.
Tumblr media
its referred to as the big clock, just like the clock keeper rumor.
it's said how it's been frozen for a very long time
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hanako can't remember, but my theory is that he knew his time would be cut short. he seems very resentful and lonely, Tsukasa and him have their differences, that seem unfixable.
Tumblr media
this may be because he knows there a demon inside or there's something more that happened. but I believe he's trying to fix the clock, to change time all together
Tumblr media
you may change the schools time as you will if it's in your possession. but the clock isn't moving? yes, if you can make it move it's yours to command. so Amane's goal was to have it move so he can change time, or maybe he didn't even know about this? well, it's highly possible he did, Tsukasa may have told him all about the supernatural, and so Amane would know. because of the red house demon now coexisting with Tsukasa he may think this has changed him too much, I do believe that the red house demon took part of Tsukasa's heart in payment, and Amane wants to turn time back to "fix" Tsukasa, he may have forgotten because, humans forget about the supernatural gradually, Amane is already a special case, so it may be possible that this happened or it's a blocked out memory done by "God" it may also be due to trauma.
well, anyways
you need the clock keepers permission, or else it's death for you. with the current plot Natsuhiko's goal is to use the clock, it's only now because the auditorium is only ever open once a year. so the clock keepers are only accessible once a year.
so Natsuhiko will recruit Akane, to gain a clock keepers permission to touch the clock
Tumblr media
or else he wouldn't be able to

Tsukasa could still be in Hanako's boundary
I was think this over and I believe the Tsukasa we see around is actually a physical replica made by the red house, I'm not sure if this has been a theory before but it's driving me up the walls
so firstly I'd like to talk about a theory I have for a human Yorishiro. like Sumire she has to endure the same day over and over again, and I believe this to be because that is the day she meant the most to Hakubo.
Tumblr media
so I'd believe that Tsukasa was also stuck in a loop of some kind or, stuck in a replication of their childhood house. my only proof of this is (1) we have not seen Hanako's boundary and instead he always says the bathroom his is sort of boundary, but every boundary has its own innermost reach. we have not seen Hanako's, and instead the entrance to hell of mirrors is through his own mirror, but I think it could be a replication of the red house. my only sort of proof is this
Tumblr media
he's seen to be in this broken down piece of the red house, it's not just in this scene but we've gotten multiple arts of him here, he is partially the red house demon, but what if this is Hanako's boundary? Tsukasa is powerful on his own and I would not put it past him to tear down a section of the boundary for just himself, and especially sense this looks like the playroom and the playroom is where Tsukasa disappeared.
Tumblr media
and with all the supernatural bugs around it could be completely plausible that it's because Hanako never visits his boundary. now why I think Tsukasa is a physical replica is because of his lack of solid body in the early chapters
Tumblr media
he has the black smoke all around him, similar to how the red house only appears as a black emptiness, even as only a demon in Tsukasa's chest, speaking of my guess as to why he can still grant wishes I think it's because he's still partially the red house demon? it's been theorized that the demon builds its own strength and power over time, which is why he would have mistaked the last time he saw Hanako or Hanako went to his boundary twenty to ten years or so
Tumblr media
and Sakura is also said to have helped him, and the paper crane is highlighted and we all know his kokujoudai take form in a crane, especially the one that teleports, similar to Hanako's hakujoudai one teleports people items ect, which could be how he contacted Sakura, the crane is also used to help keep track of people(well that's one of the uses we've seen most) so he could also be keeping tabs on her
Tumblr media
and one of the other reasons I believe he's a replica and not the real yorishiro is because he's said it's harder to move around because, presumably, his body not being entirely together and he seemed very happy to have gotten out. not to mention Hanako being surprised to see Tsukasa, and if my theory is correct on the day he meant the most being the day the boundary revolves around this could also explain what he said here
Tumblr media
and we all know Tsukasa has a huge master plan slowly piecing together through all the arcs we have played out in his drawings
Tumblr media
and I think Tsukasa may be doing all of this, to get his original physical self, who is plotting inside the boundary out of there. I think this because of his actions recently, now it's a very good guess that it's for Sakura's wish, but I believe why he's trying to get Hanako and Nene to destroy all the Yorishiros so he can escape. Sakura has even said she's very confident that Nene will end up destroying the Yorishiros regardless, and this could be because of her pure faith in Tsukasa's master plan
Tumblr media
and in regards of her wish, Tsukasa states that after they're destroyed she will be able to go outside, which is in fact her wish.
Tumblr media
but this could be because once he's out of there he's more powerful, the red house is a very powerful demon, no Minamoto or any exorcist has been able to get rid of it. one of the things that really got me stuck was when Tsukasa was telling her how many Yorishiros have already been destroyed and he said Mitsuba/no.3 could, do whatever? well, let's hope we get some answers soon

bound to meet
Tumblr media
honestly i was just watching an tbhk edit and I just thought...
Tsuchigomori said that Amane's book stated that he would become a teacher in the future, right?
Tumblr media
Which means that, Amane was never supposed to be Hanako-san nor anything like that.
So.... Why does Nene's book talks about Hanako-kun...?
Tumblr media
If Amane's book implies that he was never supposed to become Hanako-kun... Then why does Nene's book contradict it?
It's like- It feels like Nene's whole existence is a contradiction to Amane's whole future. His book states that he was never destined to become Hanako-san, but then Nene's book talks about Hanako-kun like Amane was always destined to become Hanako-kun.
It's almost like Nene was always destined to meet Hanako-kun, but Amane was never destined to meet Nene.
Like I said before; It almost feels like Nene's existence is a contradiction to Amane's future. They were never supposed to meet, but they still did, all because of Nene's destiny.
Or- well, better said; Amane was never destined to meet Nene, but Nene was always destined to meet Hanako-kun- Atleast, according to her book.
It might just be me overreacting about it and/or I'm just missing something out, but this is really confusing me xd
Welp- This is short, but I really wanted to get this off my chest today(tonight... since its night rn at my place lol) before I forget about it tomorrow lmao
hope u enjoyed reading this lil' thingy!
Cya~!
(lil' reminder; Feel free to correct me and/or add your own thoughts about. Just be nice and respectful about it, please.)

No but in the arc where we find out about the clock keepers and nene’s lifespan(I forgot what it was called) it is stated that the clock keepers abilities do not work as effectively on supernaturals. What does this mean. WHAT DOES THIS MEAN.
I feel that it would be dissappointing if shijima/mitsuba was actually alive and their mystery selves don’t exist at all in this present, period. With no memories coming back to them. Or anything, really.
Aidalro what are the ramifications of this I am in your walls

frantic/messy post-ch109 theory/brainstorming lol
I am starting to put my cards in yorishiro aoi rn…
so far the two human yorishiros have both been sacrificed to the “god”
aoi went down that same hole, didn’t she? sure, so did akane, hanako, and nene, but they were all already supernaturals or could see supernaturals
aoi, however, only saw supernaturals once hakubo appeared to her… does that count as a sacrifice beginning? and she can still see them… was it permanent when the separation between shores started breaking down, or permanent after she fell down the hole and ended up… still in that boundary and unable to leave?
aoi has been different lately, right? aoi sees supernaturals still and she’s wearing her hair differently and brushing off questions and keeping secrets and her body holds the memory of part of her being taken to the far shore. we haven’t seen aoi since supernaturals started taking over the school—we’ve seen everyone of the main cast except aoi since the flowers starting taking over, if I’m not mistaken? maybe there’s a reveal coming there
and from the clock keeper perspective, what could an entity as objective as time care enough about to make their yorishiro? they constantly need someone new to rule the present…someone alive…someone they are able to manipulate specifically bc they love another person so much
“it is precisely because it is now” does that mean it is precisely because it’s akane???
the thing I'm stuck on with this theory though is the clock keepers tricked akane through his love for aoi, but if the sacrificed kannagi status being a prerequisite for human yorishiro status theory is true, then what was the clock keepers’ yorishiro before the school sleepover and the severance?
this prompts the question as well, can a yorishiro change? if tsuchigomori’s yorishiro is a rock amane yugi gave him in 1969, were there no 7 mysteries, or at least no yorishiros, before that? or did his yorishiro get overwritten by one more emotionally powerful?

My theory for what the Clock keepers changed.
First of all, look at Amane’s eyes and also that of Tsukasa and Katakuri from the Red House arc
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They all look very dead and lacking light. Also note how tired both Amane and Katakuri look.
It's possible this is a sign that the entity on the Red House has them (I also feel like Katakuri is important, but not sure how yet)
Anyway!
At the end of the Red House arc Kou tells Tsukasa that Amane dies at 13 after killing his brother.
Tsukasa then tells the entity that he wants to go home and see what happens and that he'd been too scared to before.
What if this interaction is what causes Amane to die at 13?
We know that baby Tsukasa disappeared and then reappeared later as Not-Tsukasa. What if this is after he has had the Red House interaction?
It's implied that Amane can remember the interactions with Nene from his past, so the time travel isn't impossible
So in this time, Amane didn't die at 13, because he didn't kill Tsukasa. Now, if he were to find out that some sort of entity was at his old house and his brother disappeared because of it or had become the school supernatural because of it.
It is entirely possible that he went to the Red House to try and bargain with it, or, sacrifice himself to free Tsukasa (him freeing him could also be why the entity is now at the school)

I feel like hanako is the one that would understand kou the most, he probably knows how he feels.
they have different reason to be like that, but it's the same thing kind. your not really happy, but you'll be here just for them.
i kinda wanna see more hanako and kou interacting seriously, because if there's someone who can understand how kou feels, it's definitely hanako.
they kind of have the same feelings.
i wish they could talk less 'goofy'.
i know its a comical shonen, but well, it's a shonen.
their conversations would be interesting and maybe, kou will finally open up, atleast to someone.
and well maybe even hanako will say something that might move the story, though i wouldn't know WHAT he would say.
i don't know if anyone has the same feelings, but i appreciate any critics.

Tsukasa Is Tsukasa
Recently I discovered a poll asking if people thought the Supernatural Tsukasa and the Red House Tsukasa were different, and the results surprised me! A majority of voters thought they were not the same. Not only that, but I've seen many people in the fandom start believing they are separate people, if they hadn't already believed it before.
I think this stance can very easily be explained by the scene in Chapter 111 where Amane comes to the conclusion that the Tsukasa who went missing isn't the same as the one who came back:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
While people might be divided on the details, the conclusion is basically the same: whatever that is inside of him, it's not Amane's brother.
And I can see why they think this! In fact, it used to be a popular theory back during the release of chapters 78-82 when we didn't know the specifics of what happened. Heck, we still don't know many of the specifics...and many people continued believing the Tsukasas were different anyway!
There's decent evidence to support this, too. When Tsukasa returned, he had sharp teeth and supernatural powers. He knew that Kunishige's wish was that the head priest would die. He's demonstrably different from the innocent little Tsukasa that sacrificed his life for Amane.
If that wasn't enough, even his own mom came to the conclusion that Tsukasa wasn't her son! This is basically the same conclusion Amane comes to in Chapter 111. That's 2/3 of Tsukasa's family members thinking some evil entity is larping around in his skin--not a good look!
In any case, while I could try and convince you guys there are two Tsukasas and the Tsukasas are different, that's not what I'm here to do. If you read my blog you already know I'm 100% on the side that Tsukasa is Tsukasa and always has been, and nothing AidaIro has shown me so far has been convincing enough to change my mind. In this post, I am here to argue that the Red House Tsukasa is the same as the Supernatural Tsukasa and that he merely works in tandem with the ancient god living inside him.
1. Chapter 82
This is the chapter when a lot of people dropped the theory that there are two Tsukasas, including me. (Yes, I used to believe there were two Tsukasas--people change!)
Kou and Nene had determined that the Red House Tsukasa was the real Tsukasa and that the one Amane killed was a fake. They come to this conclusion because this Tsukasa was trapped in the Red House for 50 years and acts a lot nicer and sweeter than the one we know.
The issue is, Kou tells this Tsukasa that Amane is going to kill Tsukasa and die at the age of 13...and unbeknownst to Kou, the seemingly innocent little Red House Tsukasa is EXCITED at the idea! Tsukasa, thankful to Kou and Nene, helps them escape the house but stays behind. This scene is when a lot of cool stuff happens.
First, we learn that Tsukasa wasn't actually trapped in the Red House and he always knew how to get back home, but that he never left because he was worried about what would happen to Amane. However, once Kou told him that Amane wasn't happy after Tsukasa left and that Amane kills not just Tsukasa but also himself, Tsukasa realizes he doesn't know that much about Amane and wants to learn more. The most shocking part of this scene to me was that Tsukasa's excitement at dying was very similar to the lighthearted way the Supernatural Tsukasa brings up his death with Amane.

Second, we see Tsukasa not only has the entity he sacrificed himself to to save Amane stored in his chest, but that he holds a conversation with it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The entity being shown in his chest is actually a popular argument for the "Tsukasa isn't Tsukasa" theory, but I feel this scene proves otherwise. Tsukasa is not the unwilling host of this entity, as one might expect, but instead almost treats it as a friend. They have a sort of symbiotic relationship going on, and Tsukasa makes the decision to go back wholly of his own, despite them both knowing how to get back the entire time. He even says "let's go back TOGETHER," which supports the idea that they work together and that it isn't simply piloting a Tsukasa meat puppet.
We can argue Tsukasa is the victim to the entity's machinations, that the entity needed Tsukasa to do it willingly or that the entity took full control of Tsukasa after he succumbed to the flames or what not and tricked him, but so far AidaIro has only shown cooperation between these two characters. It's not unreasonable to suggest that Tsukasa gaining supernatural powers after he comes back isn't a sign that he's a different being entirely but that he's just working with one.
2. Mother Doesn't Always Know Best
This one will be a quick section, but considering Mother Yugi is basically the origin of "Tsukasa isn't Tsukasa" I wanted to cover why I think she's wrong.
In Chapter 79 Kunishige recounts how Mother Yugi took Tsukasa to their shrine because she thought her son was possessed by a demon after being spirited away. Kunishige thinks she's crazy at first, and so do the priests, who find nothing wrong with Tsukasa. Put a pin in that btw.
However, Kunishige later learns she was onto something because Tsukasa is not only an incredibly unsettling child but he correctly predicts the death of the head priest of the shrine and tells Kunishige his wish, for the head priest to disappear, would be granted tomorrow. This proves Tsukasa has otherworldly power, since he knows Kunishige's wish without Kunishige telling him, and also might have the ability to grant wishes, something the entity in his chest is shown to be capable of.
Now, I personally think the fact that the priests found nothing wrong with Tsukasa is HUGELY in favor of my theory. I understand how you can argue that the entity somehow avoided detection because it's powerful, or because there was nothing left of the original Tsukasa or something, but I still think the fact the priests detected nothing wrong is extremely weird. What if that's because Tsukasa is still in control?
I think the fact Mother Yugi was convinced Tsukasa isn't her son and wasn't persuaded otherwise is important, too. In fact, I think it might directly correlate with the conclusion Amane makes in Chapter 111. I think Amane is more or less coming to the same conclusion his mother made, something he hadn't wanted to believe at first but eventually, finally, succumbed to. I have to imagine his mother's insistence that Tsukasa wasn't Tsukasa left a big impression on Amane, and it's something that's bothered him for years.
I can't exactly blame them both, either. By the time Tsukasa came back, he'd lost a lot of his innocence. Keep in mind that they think Tsukasa was gone for six months. Any normal 4-year-old kid might have been traumatized by leaving his family for six months, but Tsukasa just acts creepy and possessed. And despite him meeting Nene and Kou 50 years in the future, it's possible it really was only six months for Tsukasa! Time worked differently there. Still, it's not hard to see how the extreme circumstances he was in might have changed him. Not only was he stuck in a haunted death house, he later learns the wish he granted for Amane wasn't Amane's true wish and that Amane kills Tsukasa. This is all pretty life-changing information, and when you tack on the fact that he's buddy-buddy with an ancient man-eating god, it's really not that surprising Tsukasa has changed so dramatically, especially when he's still at the tender age of 4.
3. Behavior
For something that's supposedly replaced Tsukasa entirely, it certainly gets very personal with Amane, doesn't it?
I said before that Red House Tsukasa in Chapter 82 acts similar to Supernatural Tsukasa. How they find delight in death. But I don't think this is the only point of similarity between them, either. In Chapter 81, Red House Tsukasa is under the impression that Amane hates him.
Tumblr media
In Chapter 111, after Amane tells Tsukasa he hates him, Tsukasa tells him he already knew that.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mind you, this line comes seconds before Amane comes to the conclusion that Tsukasa isn't Tsukasa.
Think about it. Tsukasa tells Amane that he knows Amane hates him, echoing a sentiment that the Red House Tsukasa shares. And Amane, after hearing this, comes to the conclusion that this Tsukasa is an impostor.
Isn't that... really sad?! I mean, I'm not going to say that Amane's whole reasoning for Tsukasa being a fake is that he thinks Amane hates him, but...before this scene, Amane was saying he couldn't destroy his yorishiro because he cared about Tsukasa too much. And for Tsukasa to say something he's thought ever since Amane pushed him as a little kid, and for THAT to make Amane say he thinks Tsukasa is fake... it really shows they've never understood each other at all.
Tumblr media
Tsukasa's never been shown to get extremely upset about being hated by Amane, either, so you can't say Amane is right just because Tsukasa is laughing in Chapter 111. Tsukasa initially seems shocked when he was pushed, and overall seems a little sad about it in Chapter 81, but he still remarks that Amane hates him with a smile. He's selfless about it. And later, when he learns Amane kills him, this feeling gets more complex. Despite Kou's attempts to convince him otherwise, I think Kou's reveal only made Tsukasa more convinced that Amane hates him, and this is shown in Chapter 111 when he laughs about it. It's just a funny joke to him at this point.
Tumblr media
I...genuinely cannot reconcile this behavior with Tsukasa being a fake. I just can't! Why would the entity be this personal with Amane? Why would it share opinions that the supposedly "real" Tsukasa had? If AidaIro really is trying to write a story about a little boy being replaced by a supernatural entity, then they could at least do a better job of making them act different. TBHK makes it clear that supernaturals can experience human emotions just as strongly as actual humans, so it wouldn't surprise me if the god has its own personality and feelings, but for them to just...be the exact same as the human it replaced? I'm not buying it.
There is no difference between the Red House Tsukasa and the Supernatural Tsukasa that can't be explained away by the fact that people change as they grow older. Everything about Tsukasa's character arc as I've presented it is completely logical.
Conclusion
With so little info on the ancient man-eating god, it's kind of impossible to reach a proper conclusion at this point. All we really know about its personality is that it hungers for flesh and will grant any wish in exchange for it. With this in mind, it's incredibly easy to see why people think the god and Supernatural Tsukasa are one and the same, especially when the cast tends to treat them as such. I could just as easily write a post in favor of them being different as I could of them being the same.
And I think this is what AidaIro ultimately wants! I think AidaIro wants us to second guess ourselves. If I know anything about Aidairo, it's that they like to keep up on our toes and shock us with surprising twists. Who really knows what they have hiding up their sleeves?
Still, I feel the theory that the god replaced Tsukasa raises more questions than answers, and I hope I managed to explain my side of things.
