and now im convinced ethan was the one who filed for divorce. i cant imagine julia turning her back on him, not after she shot two men dead and beat his chest back to life. im convinced ethan made the decision to leave her and turn her into a ghost after he rescued her from the serbian hit squad. that look at the end of ghost protocol was pure love. she loves that stupid clown. he’s just too fucking stupid and depressed to accept that persephone loves him too. she woulda gone to the ends of the earth with him. she might have died in the process, but it woulda been her choice. except ethan wouldn’t let her. he’d never let that woman die on his watch, not after that fakeout in mi3 💀

this is such a trivial detail but in MI3 when Ethan’s at the hospital frantically looking for Julia he knows all of the staff by name and they respond to him like they know him well. more evidence that he is a full time wifeguy who loves hanging out with his wife and her coworkers

julia meade got married in a hospital chapel and within a week got kidnapped, learned to use a gun from her husband, killed said husband, killed two men, brought her husband back, and found out he has been lying to her since they met. truly one of the worst starts to any marriage ever methinks

i still cant get over the fact that they tied movies 3-8 together with the revelation that the anti-god was the entity, and yet refused to give us julia screentime that wasn’t stuff from previous movies. ethan didn’t almost sacrifice humanity for a rando, he did it for his WIFE. shame him 5ever if you want, but he had no choice, because julia’s life was simply more important than his own. an absolute nothingburger of an ending. what do you mean this man didn’t go crawling back to his wife like a wounded animal. the entity is literally a product of their love. that’s their demonic ass malicious code AI baby

in the Empire podcast McQuarrie talks about the ending montage scene in Fallout with the Sloane voiceover and how that had originally been this whole other coda scene post-Kashmir, and the set-up for it was that Ethan had fucked off and disappeared after the mission and was leveraging his absence so that the CIA would hand over Lane to MI6 in order to protect Ilsa and get her her freedom. and it’s just crazy that like a lot of the deleted scenes or cut content from Fallout are about Ilsa & Ethan’s friendship specifically and how much they care about each other and how much they’re willing to do for one another even when it puts them directly in harm’s way. Because also like McQ talks about a deleted scene where Ilsa tells Ethan she doesn’t care about what happens to her, she just needs to kill Lane, and Ethan is like but I care about what happens to you, and how big an admission that is for Ethan to say to Ilsa. Kinda insane to think about how three movies ago he was interrupting Julia from saving his life to tell her he loves her and then flash forward to Fallout and Ethan’s barely able to even admit he cares about Ilsa
