When I started programming, there was an overnight turnaround, then standing in long lines to submit cards and again to collect printout. Next was compilers time-shared, later on tiny PCs, any serious program was at least a lunch break.
Then came Pentium and multicore and Jupyter and a KILLER reinforcement schedule that would blister a lab rat. Now, instead of PLANNING code, it is incremental trial and mostly error.
Hover-mom managers asking why I wasn't "doing" something was my main reason to work from home. I could get things done.

thinking about the time last semester when I was sitting in physics lab trying to do the lab, while the lab instructor and one of the TAs were talking about whether or not they liked jupyter (however the program is spelled). I, however, didn't know that's what they meant, and I interpreted it as the actual planet. I said, out loud, mind you, "I think all the planets slay in their own way" and they laughed, explained what they were actually talking about, and then agreed with me
