Chaz Bono existed before, but I do get what you mean about the invisibility. Just. There wasn’t none before Elliot and that’s important to remember.

I’m gonna be very honest: I very much hadn’t heard of Chaz Bono before this ask. I also hadn’t heard of Buck Angel until the Contrapoints drama, I hadn’t heard of Cavetown until a transmasc friend introduced me this year, and I hadn’t heard of Kalvin G-rrah or Ty Turner or Korviday until well after I learned I was transmasc either.

People outside of our community know who Elliot Page is. Cis people have been following his career for decades. Our family members, coworkers, classmates, and cis/straight friends are likely to know who he is; and if they don’t, there are movies and shows they’ve heard of before that he’s been in, and that we can show them.

I appreciate that you want to uplift the figures we do have, and like, you’re right that a lot of them do deserve more recognition! (Buck & Kalvin can get fucked tho.) But I mean. Elliot Page is the first transmasc public figure anywhere close to the playing field that Laverne Cox, the Wachowski sisters, and Caitlin Jenner are on. That’s what I mean when I call him the “first”.
