Chopova Lowena
Spring 2023 Ready-to-wear
"We had three months to fit everyone, so they all felt perfect. Right space, right sound, a great experience emotionally, a different way of walking,"
This collection paid homage to the Rose Festival, a pageant which takes place in Kazanlak, the village in central Bulgaria where Chopova's ancestry is rooted. There were riffs on rose-forms in prints and cuts; a backpack became a whorl of petals.
Sport-the other source of Chopova Lowena's brand identity-showed up in homage to Lacrosse.
"The thing about playing sport at school was that people were always sort of accepting-you were doing an activity in which you had to be a team. It pulls people together who are like, really different or already the same," she grinned. "And so, different people come together."

11 were detained after the mass fight in Kazanlak yesterday. An old family feud between two families is at the heart of the clash that left one man dead and 11 injured. Two of them are in serious condition in the hospital in Stara Zagora.
The incident happened next to the central market in Kazanlak. The two feuding families were on trial for another beating. The feud between the two families has been going on for years.
Some time ago, there was also a case of a child being run over in an accident between the two families.
At the moment, the families involved in the beating are being protected by the gendarmerie and the police. In Pavel Banya, they monitor the schools where their children study.

A young Bulgarian woman, dressed in a traditional costume, is picking roses near Kazanlak, where the famous roses are gathered and then used for all sorts of cosmetics around the world. A project at university I did, incorporating Hermes bags in different ways, at first unexpected- in this case as a basket for the roses.

Special Event: Kazanlak’s Rose Festival - Bulgaria
The first Rose Festival was held in the Rose Valley of Bulgaria in 1903 because this was the main rose growing area for the extraction of rose oil. It is said that its cultivation was brought from ancient Persia in the Middle Ages and soon became a product exported to the rest of the world. The species that is cultivated is the "Rosa Damascena". As the story tells, rose growers, they dressed the most beautiful women with roses to show the quality of the roses to potential buyers and hence the tradition of choosing a "Queen of the Rose" during the Festival.
The Bulgarian Rose Festival in Kazanlak is held at the beginning of each June, specific, being the main day of the festival the first Sunday of the month of June. The festival is therefore short-lived, 3 oh 4 days and in them many possibilities are concentrated for visitors. Some of these activities are the following: pick your own roses in the huge rose fields near Kazanlak, visit factories for the distillation of rose oil from its flower petals, go to jam tastings, rose-flavored cakes and liqueurs, visit the Museum of the Rose and of course enjoy the parade, performances and festivities that take place during the Kazanlak festival.
The Rose Festival is held in Kazanlak every year and marks the famous picking of rose petals in the valleys of the region. The town of Kazanlak takes advantage of this tradition to promote itself, as the picking attracts curious people and tourists from all over the world (especially from Japan).
Tumblr media
The rituals take place in various villages (numbered above) around the town of Kazanlak. The most visited rose picking rituals are in the first weekend of June – Saturday and Sunday taking place near the village of Enina or the village of Kran. It would be good to get there not later than 9 am when the roses are still fresh and the dew has not evaporated yet. You will enjoy picking the petals of the roses, taking photos and watching Bulgarian folklore dances.
But if you cannot visit Bulgaria on the dates of these festivals, then you have the option of knowing the Valley of the Roses at any time of the year because even if there are no special events you can always visit the Museum of the Kazanlak Rose, the house-museums where the ancient process is shown and even the rose oil distillation factories, that although they are inoperative outside the rose season
Tumblr media
The culmination of the rose festival events is the parade on the main square when the visitors enjoy a one and a half hour parade. The participants are members of organizations, clubs, schools, kinder gardens. They parade dressed in colorful costumes presenting their activity. Very attractive is the Queen Rose elected previously in a glamorous ceremony and her runner ups. I will purchase in advance tickets for the rose parade. The ticket will assure you a seat, so that you can enjoy the parade in comfort. If you do not have tickets, still you can watch the parade standing. Very often it is very hot and people hardly manage to stand for one and a half hour under the burning sun.

The Mystical World of the Thracians
Discover the mystique of the Thracians, an ancient tribe whose culture intertwined the vitality of wine with the profound mysticism of Orphism, believing in the immortality of the human soul. Through archaeological finds, their legacy has transcended time, ensuring their immortality.
Unveiling the Thracians
The Thracians inhabited vast lands from Russia to Asia Minor, existing in tribes often engaged in warfare among themselves. They were characterized by their tall stature, golden or copper-colored hair, fair skin, and blue eyes. Intricately tattooed females adorned religious symbols, while males wore exquisite and ornamental jewelry Istanbul Cultural Tours.
Thracian Society and Customs
In Thracian society, husbands held authority, and wives were acquired through payment to their parents. Although polygamous, only the favored spouse of a dignitary was granted the honor of burial alongside them, symbolizing companionship in the journey to immortality.
The Odrysae – Masters of Southern Thrace
The Odrysae, the dominant tribe in the Valley of Kazanlak, wielded significant power. Portraits of their mighty rulers, Seuthes III and Teres, provide glimpses into their grandeur. Under Seuthes III’s reign, Seuthopolis emerged as the kingdom’s focal point, boasting defenses, temples, and gates. Despite lying submerged beneath Koprinka Lake today, Seuthopolis’s legacy endures, offering insights into Thracian civilization.

Thracian Deities and Beliefs
The Thracians revered various gods, including Dionysus, the god of wine and joy, Helios, the sun-god, and the Great Mother-Goddess, symbolizing earth and life. Later, Orphism emerged, emphasizing the immortality of the soul. Rituals, such as the beheading of Seuthes III’s statue, symbolized the journey towards immortality.
Exceptional Thracian Craftsmanship
Although primarily agrarian, the Thracians excelled in ore extraction, metalworking, and craftsmanship. Archaeological discoveries attest to their superior skills in jewelry-making, evident in intricately designed ornaments for arms, riding gear, and religious rituals Istanbul Cultural Tours.
The Thracian Tomb at Kazanlak
The Thracian Tomb in Kazanlak holds significance as Bulgaria’s first UNESCO World Heritage-listed cultural monument. Discovered in 1944 within a burial mound, its fame stems from remarkably preserved frescoes dating back to the early Hellenic era. Comprising a foyer, passageway, and burial chamber, the tomb showcases remarkable architecture and artistry.
Unveiling the Thracian Burial Chamber
The burial chamber within the Thracian Tomb housed the remains of a man and a woman. Though plundered in antiquity, artifacts such as pottery, a gold-plated silver jug, horse bones, an amphora, and golden jewelry were discovered by archaeologists, shedding light on Thracian burial customs and material culture.
