Numbers 40-31 in this part. We're getting close to the end. Really like how this one came out.

40. Populous II
Tumblr media
The first Populous was the start of the god game genre, but Populous II refined it into a perfect blend of god powers and stuff. It also had a “story” of you pitting your might against other Greek gods, so that was fun.
39. Deep Rock Galactic
Tumblr media
ROCK AND STONE! A great cooperative shooter that's easy to pick up, and really fun to master. Four distinct classes make for a great team where every class is important. Hell, you can even tame the bugs and pet them, that's awesome.
38. The Stanley Parable
Tumblr media
Honestly, I can't say anything about this game if you've never played it, because that would be spoilers, and I don't want to spoil anything about this game. It's great, though.
37. Space Quest IV: Roger Wilco and the Time Rippers
Tumblr media
Space Quest IV was the first Space Quest game to have Gary Owens as the Narrator, and it's easily my favorite Sierra adventure game. The time travel plot makes sense, even if the future Space Quests you go to don't exist outside this game, it's just a humorously thrilling adventure featuring everyone's favorite space janitor.
36. Half-Life
Tumblr media
Yes, it's higher than its sequel. Without Half-Life, there would be no Valve, no Steam, no Source Engine... it's that important. Some people complain it's linear, but that's the point; it's that too many took that the wrong way in making their FPS games. Gordon is being pushed that way. Also, don't play the Source port. Stick with the OG. Preferably with the HD Models turned OFF.
35. Jazz Jackrabbit 2
Tumblr media
Take everything about the original Jazz Jackrabbit, remove the timer, make it easier to see around your character, add a second playable character with a different move set, and you get this fantastic sequel. It's honestly one of the best PC platformers out there, and you should play it.
34. Knights of the Old Republic
Tumblr media
One of BioWare's finest RPGs. They take the Star Wars license and tell a story of the universe's past with great twists. Saying anything else might spoil it for you and I don't want to do that to you.
33. Need For Speed Hot Pursuit (2010)
Tumblr media
Criterion's first take on the Need for Speed series is quite good. You can choose whether to be a racer or a cop, and you get a bunch of really neat cars to race or chase in. I usually have a soft spot for the Camaro, even if it's not that great in game.
32. The Incredible Machine 3
Tumblr media
The Incredible Machine 3 is personally my favorite Incredible Machine game because it has some of the more clever puzzles, with new items such as lasers and solar panels. Now, you can't get 3 without getting the others in the series, but they're all great games.
31. Dungeon Keeper
Tumblr media
Dungeon Keeper is a base-building game where you are the dungeon master, trying to keep all those pesky adventurers out of your lair. You must pay your minions, and you can slap them to make them work faster. Evil is good in Dungeon Keeper. Get the KeeperFX port to play it though, DOSBox has problems.
Part 8 tomorrow!

Common behaviours when a creature is angry include vandalising the dungeon and deserting the player. For example, Flies and Spiders are often found at odds with one another. The dungeon has a fleshed-out ecology: certain creatures are natural enemies. The gods may reward or punish the player, or be indifferent depending on the sacrifice. The Temple is a room where creatures are made happy, and the player can sacrifice creatures to the dark gods. Traps are not built instantly Imps need to place them on the blueprint. As with rooms, they can only be built on tiles that belong to the player. Traps include lightning and boulder traps, the latter instantly killing creatures it comes into contact with. The player can build traps and doors, created in the workshop. Unaligned creatures and rooms are multicoloured. Other keepers have different colours, and the heroes are white. The player is red and the tiles are coloured accordingly. Rooms can only be built on tiles belonging to the player. As the game progresses, the player moves along a technology tree, unlocking further rooms and spells. Minions include dragons, warlocks, and the horned reaper, as well as undead creatures such as vampires and skeletons. After connecting the dungeon to a 'Portal', minions will arrive. Once the Imps are working, the player must then set up a basic infrastructure: Lairs for monsters, a Hatchery (where chickens, which serve as food, are grown), and a Treasury. Throughout the game, a "mentor" will advise the player as to various happenings and problems within the dungeon, as a sinister voiceover. To order the imps to dig a tile, the player need flag the tile. Gold is used to build rooms, cast spells, and train creatures. Gold is obtained primarily by digging Gold Seams, and Gem Seams provide an unlimited supply, though take longer to accumulate. Slapping creatures forces them to work faster temporarily, but removes some of their health. Imps are obtained by using the Create Imp spell. Along with the heart, the player begins with a small number of imps, the generic work force for dungeon activities: they dig tunnels into the surrounding soil, capture enemy rooms and Portals, mine gold and gems, and set traps. The Dungeon Heart represents the Keeper's link to the world. Dungeon Keeper 's gameplay exemplifies a dark sense of humour. The hand allows the player to 'slap' creatures and objects, and interact with them. The primary method of control is the hand, used to pick up creatures and objects in the dungeon, carry them around, and drop them. The player constructs and manages a dungeon, recruiting and catering for minions to run it and defend it from enemy invaders. Navigating the built-up dungeon with the Hand of Evil Dungeon Keeper was followed by a sequel, Dungeon Keeper 2, in 1999, and influenced games such as Lego Rock Raiders and Ghost Master. A fan-made mod, KeeperFX, was released, which fixes bugs and adds features. Dungeon Keeper was re-released on GOG.com in 2011, and on Origin in 2016. The game received critical acclaim, with reviewers praising the uniqueness and depth. Versions for the Sega Saturn and Sony PlayStation were in development, but cancelled. Midway through development, lead developer Peter Molyneux decided to leave Bullfrog when the game was complete, which was the motivation for its success. Multiplayer with up to four players is supported using a modem, or over a local network.ĭungeon Keeper took over two years to develop, and an expansion pack, a Direct3D version, and a level editor were released. Dungeon Keeper uses Creative Technology's SoundFont technology to enhance its atmosphere. A character known as the Avatar (resembling the Avatar from Ultima VIII: Pagan) appears as the final hero. The ultimate goal is to conquer the world by destroying the heroic forces and rival dungeon keepers in each realm. In Dungeon Keeper, the player builds and manages a dungeon, protecting it from invading 'hero' characters intent on stealing accumulated treasures, killing monsters and ultimately the player's demise.

KeeperFX • Dungeon Keeper: The Deeper Dungeons
Once upon a time the DLCs were sold on physical disks of various floppiness. And before it became in vogue to actually put effort into them and make them on par with the original game, it was pretty common to release plain map packs. No campaign, no motivation, no fluff. Just select a mission and play it. In rare occasions they could even add some new minor mechanics. Usually it’s hard for me to…
