Kenny Rogers was an American singer, songwriter, actor, and record producer, who had a long and successful career spanning over six decades. Born in Houston, Texas in 1938, Rogers started his music career in the 1950s as a member of various bands before forming The First Edition in the 1960s. Rogers gained national recognition in the 1970s as a solo artist, with hits such as "Lucille," "The Gambler," and "Coward of the County." His music blended elements of country, pop, and rock, and he was known for his smooth, distinctive voice and storytelling lyrics. Throughout his career, Rogers sold over 100 million records worldwide and won numerous awards, including three Grammy Awards, six Country Music Association Awards, and eight Academy of Country Music Awards. He also collaborated with other artists, such as Dolly Parton, with whom he recorded the hit duet "Islands in the Stream." In addition to his music career, Rogers also acted in movies and television shows, including "The Gambler" TV movie series, for which he also recorded the theme song. He also produced several television movies and documentaries.
