Fictober Prompt #19: “Yes, I admit it, you were right.”

Fandom: Supergirl

Pairing: Danvarias

Warnings: Minor mentions of drug use

Thirteen miles from a bustling city with a designer landscape, quaint eateries, and a baseball team that nearly became the pride of Ohio is a rural blip on the map that is better left ignored. Duntown, which the residents resentfully call Doomstown, is a place that makes you reckon with reality. Ramshackle churches and hate crimes that people struggle to name, the folks of this city fear everything they do not know. For most that means outsiders. They turn up their noses and yell out the windows of their pick-up trucks. Go back where you came from! For some, their greatest fear is the only thing they’ve ever known - church. They drag themselves to Sunday service, seeking forgiveness for the things they cannot control.

The two most popular places in Duntown are a local bar that serves stale beer and moonshine - if you know how to ask just right - and a weekly flea market that sets up in the parking lot of the local high school. Tents and tables are propped up around potholes that will never be fixed and people banter and barter their mundane little lives away.

The biggest plight of the city takes everyone by surprise. It happens so fast that people struggle to make time between work - at a fading steel mill - and Sunday’s services to figure out exactly what’s going on. It’s a funeral of all things that sparks the interest of the collective town. Watching their children play in a field that they will probably never grow out of and eating bologna sandwiches and salad that’s nothing but iceberg lettuce and croutons, Sam’s entire life changes.

“Went to water my plants this morning. That darn water,” Deborah says shaking her head, “looked like someone done pissed in it.” It’s the way she says it, all bite and resolute, apprehension comes to a head. That’s what catches Sam’s attention. It seems like just another thing to fear, another thorn in her side. Sam’s eyes go to Ruby, she’s laughing and playing tag with her friends. Ruby’s at that age where youth slowly starts to crumble and she’ll become aware of the world around her.

Sam can see Tuffy and John sitting near a makeshift shrine of Kevin. They drink and drink, saluting their dead friend who perished on a normal workday at the mill. To date, Sam had been to seven funerals of people she’d known from high school. They all died in the same place, all had funerals presided over by the same poverty-stricken mourners, and all had after funeral receptions just like this. Tuffy and John smoked meth behind Mrs. Ainsley’s - Kevin’s mother - car. And all this was normal. All this met Sam’s expectations.

Water that she had to boil before drinking did not.

Deborah had made the comment about the drinking water six months ago and now, Sam seemed to be the only one brave enough to do something about it. Her bravery was, in fact, an accident. She’d been weaving in and out of her trailer home, trying to carry all of the groceries that she’d purchased at Costco six towns over. Ruby was supposed to be taking a bath and then going right to bed, Sam didn’t want to argue about it. Not today.

It’d been a long road, getting where they are now. Borrowing from people she despised, working extra shifts at the grocery store, and relying on nosy neighbors to babysit. Sam, you’re a pretty girl. They’ve got some good men at the mill. She’d got a daily reminder of just how cute she was by handsy men, most of whom would go on to live and die at that very mill. Now that Sam and Ruby had a place of their own, things were starting to look up. “Mom. Mom!” Sam grabs four bags at once and rushes inside. She dumps the bags and throws the bathroom door open.

“Oh, Rubes,” It’s a rash, tiny and probably inconsequential, but Sam has promised herself to always put Ruby first. Yellow water that has been slowly turning brown for months, and a rash, are enough to get Sam to make a call.

The call itself goes terribly. She doesn’t know who to ask for or how to ask for what she wants. The secretary on the other end uses big words that feel suffocating. All Sam wants is to be safe. “Do you understand? I need you to send someone who can help us feel safe.” Sam feels like she blew it the moment she hangs up. She deeply considers moving. The cost is far outside of her reach but if she asks the right people and is willing to speak to her mother again, then she can make it happen.

“Someone sent you an email!” Bernice, who everyone just calls Bezza, yells from where she’s seated in front of her trailer. Rocking and knitting like always. Sam approaches with Ruby at her side. “Remember when you showed me how to use the ‘Gmail’? Well, I guess your account is still up. The noise that email made, scared me to hell and back.”

“Who’s it from?” Sam can’t remember the last time she’d gotten an email that wasn’t about her missing a bill.

“Some law firm.” Sam nearly trips on herself as she runs into Bezza’s trailer. She pushes past mounds of newspapers and boxes of old junk and finds her desktop computer. Sam bites her nails while she waits for the computer to wake up. She listens to Bezza tell Ruby about all of her fantastic finds at the flea market that week. Sam feels nauseous.

When she finally manages to get to her email, Sam has to rifle through a bunch of spam and late fee notices to get to an email from Danvers & Danvers Law Offices:

Dear Ms. Arias,

I’ve received some initial information about Duntown and I am concerned about the lack of progress being made on behalf of your town. I’d like to come and talk to you sometime within the next few weeks. Please send me a list of dates and times that you are available to meet and we will work something out.

Alex Danvers LL.M.

Sam rereads the email five times before typing out her response. She’s embarrassed that she’s only free to meet after eight most days, but she leaves room for other suggestions like a phone call. She sends the email and immediately gets a response. They’ll meet at The Tipsy Cow at 8:30 the following day. “Mom, you took like fifty years,” Ruby, who is far too aware and mature for a nine-year-old, says as they walk back to their trailer. “Bezza smells like mothballs.” Ruby hops up the steps one by one and they enter and both go in search of something that will pass for dinner.

“I had to answer an email,” Sam explains. “Don’t comment on how people smell unless it’s nice.”

“I like moths.” Ruby finds an apple in the fridge and munches on that while Sam gets to work on Hamburger Helper. “Who emailed? Delany’s mom got a new boyfriend. They went to Chicago for the weekend.” Sam wishes she could tell Ruby that Delany’s mom’s new boyfriend is an alcoholic who has questionable world views. Instead, she remains silent. “Can we go to Chicago?”

“Someday.”

“There’s a giant bean there!” Ruby gets lost in an old Almanac, Sam starts to think that she’s made a grave mistake. Big corporations don’t take too kindly to meddling women. Sam’s a nobody, she knows that and what kind of lawyer travels all the way from National City just to talk? If Sam had a computer of her own, she’d email this Alex Danvers right now, and tell him to forget it. But dinner and bedtime stories get in the way of those thoughts.

Sam is hunkered down at work just enough to forget all about it until it’s six-thirty and Ruby is asking why she has to stay at Deborah’s house that night. “I have to meet someone and I don’t know how long it’ll take. You like Deborah.”

“I like you more,” Ruby tells her pouting and sulking the whole walk over. The minute they arrive at the ranch house, Ruby sees Scout, an Australian Shepherd mix, and she forgets all of her misgivings.

“Everything alright?” Deborah asks as they both watch Ruby, and her oversized backpack, bouncing around the yard. “You finally meeting someone?”

“A lawyer. Just to talk about the water situation.”

Deborah turns very serious. “You be careful now,” She warns, echoing the same tone that Sam’s mother had when she told her about this last night. Sam kisses Ruby goodbye and returns home to change into something more presentable. She settles for a turquoise shift dress and white platform sandals. The bar is close which is good for most people in the trailer community but terrible for Sam. On more than one occasion, there have been fights that have broken out right outside of Sam’s window. For now, she considers it a good thing that she lives so close, otherwise, she might have been late.

The Tipsy Cow represents all the good and bad of the town. Everyone certainly knows everyone but that means that things often boil over and get heated in these very walls. Sam normally wouldn’t be caught dead alone in this place but it’s 8:30 and she doesn’t think she’ll have to wait long.

Unless this big city lawyer is late.

Sam orders a club soda and finds a booth in the back. They’ll need a quiet place to talk and there are too many mill workers crowding the bar and watching some baseball game that Sam could care less about. There’s a little bit of a lull, which Sam hardly notices until one of the mill workers barks - yes, barks - at a woman who’s just entered the bar. That kind of ruckus signals outsider, so Sam lifts her head to see what’s going on. The woman is wearing a grandad collar white button-up, mid-wash blue jeans, and a blazer that could probably pay off Sam’s mortgage. The briefcase is the thing that catches Sam’s attention the most.

Oh, she sits up properly, Alex Danvers is a woman.

Alex doesn’t notice Sam just yet. She checks her expensive watch, mutters fuck, and orders something from the bar. When Sam sees the bartender going for the tap, Sam rises to her feet and approaches. “I’d advise against that.” Alex turns looks between Sam and the bartender and taps her head as if to say ‘duh’.

“Long drive. The brain’s on autopilot.” Alex motions to the bartender. “I’ll take a soda.”

“We say pop around here,” Sam informs the lawyer. Once Alex has her soda, she follows Sam to the booth, and extends her hand. “So, you’re Alex.”

“Yep. And you’re Sam?”

“Yes.” Sam sits first. Alex slides her briefcase into the seat across from Sam and takes off her blazer before sitting.

“Am I late?”

“Only by a few minutes.” Sam smiles. “I see you got a good Doomstown welcome,”

“Doomstown?”

“This place. It’s a nickname of sorts.” Alex frowns.

“Doesn’t look doomed from where I’m sitting.” Sam toys with her straw trying not to get distracted by Alex placing her briefcase on the table. Alex pulls out a few documents and sets them on the table. “I’ve been doing a lot of reading. Coores & Phillips Company seems to be the main corp involved. They have the proper ordinances to drill in Cook and Favors county, but as you know, they’ve been drilling near the border here.” Alex goes to take a drink of her soda, but Sam reaches forward and grabs the glass first. “What?”

“Don’t drink that.”

“What’s wrong with it?”

“The bartender put moonshine in that.” Sam quickly lets go of the glass when she realizes that their fingers are touching. Alex laughs, uncomfortably, at the very suggestion that she’d get her drink spiked. “I’m serious.”

“I can handle my liquor.”

“Don’t be...stupid. We’ve got no-joke moonshine out here.” There’s a competitive drive in Alex. Sam imagines that makes for some magic in the courtroom. “Those papers can tell you plenty but not enough. This place isn’t some cute little town that needs big city saving. It’s been six months, soon people are going to start fighting back.”

“And how would they? Fight back I mean.”

“You see those guys?” Sam nods toward the men at the bar, cheering for a homerun. “When they’re not working, they’re drinking. And if they’re drinking and on crank, then guns get involved.”

“We’ll need a town hall meeting. Something to show everyone that the problems are being addressed.” Alex takes a sip of her drink and grimaces. “We did a case in Texas two years ago. A nice settlement too.”

“How much were the lawyer fees?”

Alex shakes her head. “No, no, nothing like that. This is pro-bono-.”

“I’ll pay. We’ll scrape money together. I’m not a charity case.” Alex seems to recognize Sam’s seriousness, so she lets it go in favor of mulling something over in her mind.

“Show me.”

“Show you...what?”

“This town. Show me what I’m missing.” Alex pays for their drinks and manages to polish off the rest of her soda before following Sam out of the bar. They get another bark on their way to Alex’s car, Sam turns sharply.

“Fuck off!” She warns. She’s seen these guys before. Heard their poor pickup lines. She won’t let them bully what might be their saving grace.

“Oh, mommy’s pissed,” One of them says as Alex unlocks her car. Alex looks like she might say something, but Sam grabs her arm and continues to pull her along. When they’re in Alex’s SUV, which is a black Porsche Cayenne, Alex looks over at her sympathetically.

“You have a kid?”

“A daughter.” Alex will probably ask more but for now, she drives out of the parking lot and down the road. “Nice car.”

“Thanks,” Alex says a slight smile on her face.

“I was being sarcastic, you can’t drive this thing around.” Sam points to her trailer which is only a block away. “You need to pull over there. You can park by my place.” Alex follows directions well but seems less than eager when they get out of the car and start walking. “Don’t worry.”

“I’m not worried,” Alex lies. They approach the church. Sam hasn’t stepped foot in there in four years and counting. Alex seems to acknowledge her jitters by slowing near the front door. “This the kind of place for you?”

“Girls like me avoid places like that,” Sam tells her. “Didn’t always. Things change.” The streets are quiet on the weeknights. The further you get from the bar, the easier it is to forget what kind of town this is. Sam glances up at the sky, the pollution from the mill has changed the whole world from Sam’s perspective. She doesn’t want Ruby growing up in a place without stars and with rusty water. “You shouldn’t take this case.”

“Why not?”

“I saw the way you looked at those guys. Like you wanted to say something or fight.” Sam stops Alex before they reach the long pathway that leads to the mill. “But you didn’t.”

“I would’ve. Easily. You don’t know me.” Alex sticks her hands in her pockets. “My mom would say that this is a lost cause. That we’ll get buried under big corporate lawyers, but our firm is solid. We’ll get you paid-.”

“If you think any of this is about money, then you don’t understand.”

“I do understand.” Alex touches the small of Sam’s back. She isn’t certain what to make of the gesture but she’ll remember it in case things take a turn for the worst. “Whoa.” Alex bends over with her hands on her knees. “Fuck.”

“What?”

“That moonshine.”

“Oh,” Sam laughs. “Yeah, it takes a bit to bite you like that.” Sam wraps her arm under Alex’s shoulder and guides her back down the road. “You okay?”

“Yeah, I could just use some water, which...I recognize is a problem.”

“I have bottled water at home.” Even though they’re strangers, Sam feels comfortable enough with Alex to invite her into her trailer. For one, there’s nothing worth stealing in the place. And two, Alex has just decided to put so much on the line to help out. Sam wishes she’d cleaned up more. Or maybe folded up her couch so it would look like there was more space but Alex seems mainly focused on water, so Sam buries her shame.

“Thanks,” Alex mumbles as she leans against the counter and downs half the bottle. Sam tries not to stare when Alex untucks her shirt and looks around the modest kitchen.

“I told you not to drink that shit.”

“Okay, yes, I admit it. You were right.” Alex shrugs it off. Sam sits at the tiny wooden table and starts unlatching her sandals. When she’s finished and looks back up at Alex, she’s struck by the fact that Alex’s eyes are already on her. Like she’d been watching her. “Um...I’ll go. You have your kid and everything-.”

“She’s staying at a friend’s place.” Sam doesn’t know why she jumps in to say that but she does know that everything has a cost. If Alex wasn’t accepting payment from her, then she must want something. Sam takes a chance, a small one, and stands shoulder to shoulder with Alex. She’s been here before, giving recklessly. Never with Ruby around but there were times where desperation took hold. “I could repay you…” Sam has never had to say much to anyone, just show casual interest and they would find a way to take control.

Alex is different, Sam learns right away, taking a step away and putting her water bottle down. “You’re a good person, Sam. I am too.” Alex lets out a breath. “We can work together, can’t we? Probably better when I’m not this drunk.”

“I wasn’t…” Sam shakes her head. “In this place, things sometimes get warped.”

“It’s okay,” Alex says sincerely. “And in honor of us understanding each other. Would it be possible for me to sleep here tonight? On the couch, on the floor...whichever.”

“Of course you can.” By the time Sam has gathered a pillow and blanket from the closet, Alex is already snoring softly on the couch. Sam covers her with a blanket, locks the doors, and goes into her own bedroom. Outside of feeling embarrassed by basically offering sex as payment, Sam is remarkably thrilled with her day. Even in her tiny room that often makes her feel like a child, Sam is floored by the possibilities that the future brings.

Doomstown might not be doomed quite yet and if the fight that Sam has seen crop up in Alex’s eyes is any indication, they might actually have a chance. Sam doesn’t like to get her hopes up. She kneels at her bedside, crosses herself, and prays for the first time since she was in high school. She wants to be safe and for once, someone understands that.

When she wakes up, Sam finds Deborah and Ruby in the kitchen. They’re both eating cereal and Deborah is boiling the water for the coffee maker. Neither seems all that phased, especially Ruby who points to the other room with her spoon, “Who’s that in there?”

“That’s Alex, she’s a lawyer.” Deborah arches a brow at Sam. Sam peeks into the room and finds Alex exactly where she left her.

“What’s she doing here?” Ruby whispers as she looks over the couch at Alex.

“She’s going to help us get clean water.”

“Really?!” Ruby yells. She bolts to where she can get face to face with Alex whose eyes open slowly. She has to blink a few times to remember where she is but when she does she smiles at Ruby and says ‘hi’. “You’re gonna help us?”

Alex looks to Sam and then sits up a little. “Yeah, I’m gonna help you.” On their way to check to see if Alex’s car got stolen Alex observes the town in the light of day. Bezza is rocking away in her chair. The hazy overcast does nothing to deter Alex’s smile. Even shouting from inside a trailer doesn’t seem to frighten her. “I like it here,” Alex tells Sam.

“Really?”

“I like the people at least.”

The next time Alex Danvers comes into town, it’s to rent an entire building out for her team. They parade in with their fancy cars and nice suits but they immediately get to work. The drilling ceases for a week and after what seems like a standoff - marked by a lot of yelling in and outside of town hall - Alex takes the Coores & Phillips Company to court. The win comes suddenly, after months and months of proceedings. The big corporation senses the uneasiness and after a few men from the mill, high on meth, blow up a drill, it’s fairly obvious that this is a war they won’t win. Alex knocks at Sam’s door, sweaty from jogging over to this side of town, she is elated and Sam knows that finally, everything is right in their little burden of a town.

Two weeks later, while Ruby, Deborah, and Bezza are playing cards, Sam announces that she’s going to take a shower. Alex looks up from where she’s seated, after losing in the very first round, and follows Sam into the hallway. “Don’t make me get a restraining order,” Sam jokes.

“This is actually...about that night.”

“I’ve known you for about a year. There’s been plenty of nights.” The hallway is barely a hallway. Just a sliver of space that leaves only a few inches between their bodies.

“The first one.” Alex rolls her eyes, knowing that Sam will wait until she says exactly what she means. “We could’ve, you know. Ended up in bed together.”

“You wouldn’t have been very good. From what I remember you were all valiance and moonshine.”

“That stuff was so strong, I might still be all moonshine.” Alex puts her hand on Sam’s waist, it’s the most direct she’s ever been with something outside of the courtroom. “I’d like to try again. Properly, I mean.”

“That’s sweet.”

“You aren’t interested?” Alex questions sadly.

“I am interested. But more so in you joining me for a shower.” Sam holds Alex’s face in her hands and smiles. “Show me you belong in this crazy little town. Show me what you’re made of.”

“We can hear everything you’re saying!” Deborah yells from the kitchen. Alex and Sam crack up laughing, hustling into the bathroom, and taking off their clothes.

A cautionary tale for the brave, the latest from the creative voice of Ruby Taylor is an ensnaring electro/punk proposition inspired by a series of real-life events that almost had the most calamitous of outcomes. A song about recklessness and regrets, fate and fortune, loneliness and a longing for love, its suggestive lyrics construct a troubling narrative of a near-miss only narrowly evaded. “Let’s drive straight into the fog, All I know is this isn’t love,” lulls Yumi with all the dreaminess of someone sleepwalking into a cul-de-sac, “This could be the last road that I take, No time to go back or contemplate…” Of “Can You Tell”, Yumi AKA Ruby explains: “‘Can You Tell’ was inspired by a very impulsive decision… It could have been the biggest mistake of my life, but luckily it was absolutely fine. This song came out of the sadness from feeling the fear I felt that overcame me when I realised I was no longer in control. Thoughts of what could happen came into my head, and I thought about what I was doing and had to have some words with myself. I lived and learnt that life is not a dream where I can just wake up when it goes bad, so I slowed down after that because trust is something you build in time, and presumption is the mother of all F*** ups!” With a laissez-faire cool somewhere between Sonic Youth and Yeah Yeah Yeahs, “Can You Tell” creates a joyride of veering sonics and compulsive rhythms that will fasten you in tight and refuse to let-go until the road runs out. Written, recorded, produced and performed (Vocals, Guitars, Synth, Bass) almost in its entirety by Ruby Taylor AKA Yumi And The Weather, additional drums were laid down by William Woodfine. Start is muddy, but I remember kind of playing a dungeon (albeit in real life) that was like a slaughter arena. You walked in, there were rows upon rows of enemies, and at first only a few would come to life, then suddenly all at once would rain upon you. We were 4 players as usual, but when all activated one player kind of ran away to hide into a corner so they wouldnt be found and couldnt lose. They looked like one of those nurses from Silent Hill but with their head in Bandages and they did the hands by their side flail walk like in Attack on Titan. Needless to say, we absolutely lost and got demolished.

I think I remember texting or calling you afterwards that this dungeon was hella dope, and there were these "real life profile altars" that you could customize and people could see, and mine was dark purple with flowy fabrics & three minis in it.

Eventually I think Daniel, Kendra, Kevin and some others walk by and we go for a stroll or something, to my house. You were eventually also there I think, this part is the blurriest. It was all very dark, but eventually we get to my house which is just a room, and it turns out you were somehow trying to put together a surprise party for my birthday but I am in denial like "nahhh, its not my birthday" because I was uncomfortable with the attention. Weirdly there were two people there that I follow on Instagram (they look very gothic in this dream, based on a historic fashion outfit reel they did) and I talk to the dude as we're having cake but I dont remember much about this.

the loss sucked and I vented about how it was annoying that one person just hid to let us do the work, but the way the dungeon was designed was hella dope & we should try it ahain later :P

Anyways this whole gothic surprise tea party at my place turns into.. hm, I dont understand where, why, or how it flipped but eventually there is Butcher from The Boys, he's kind of my dad, and he's trying to get me away from his ex-wife and to come life with him on a farm because she was acting crazy. It was almost in an elongated barn type thing, and he was so angry at her for just disappearing on him and disappointed by what she's become

she was moving really strangely, only as if trying to act human, sometimes she'd end up on all fours, jumping at the wall or the window like a spider, pleading with him to let me stay, but in a way that spelled danger and "bad idea"

so he takes me with him to a farm where I had a sister and a brother I think, he stayed as my dad but turned into someone else when we got there (bigger belly, softer face), and either his ex wife as mom turned into a different mom eventually or there was a new one eventually.. I dont remember

we also had a dog called Yogi (so the same as my moms) but he was an old sad looking golden retriever in this one

it was a very small house and we lived in what I would describe as comfortable poverty

sometimes people went missing but would reappear

I would spend a lot of time with Yogi getting to know him, cuddling him, befriending him, feeding him, because everyone else seemed to neglect him, he was always in a certain shed, and if he was anywhere else he'd run around hyperactively

eventually we got another dog, looking identical to Yogi but younger and female, and her name was something starting with an N or an L, but in the dream I kept forgetting her name, then it would come back, and so on

I'd now split my time between the two of them, and the dogs didnt seem to like each other much, Yogi out of jealousy it seemes

there was one day I was spending a bit more time with the female dog and Yogi broke out because he was jealous to find us

I realized I hadnt gone to yogi get and felt super bad and followed him when he darted toward the neighbours that had just moved in who were holding a wedding in their backyard that had super tall grass

so they were clearing some of the grass to have space, and yogi seemed excited and hyper despite his upset so he ran there

I ran after him and a man was standing at the corner fence connecting our properties

I profusely apologized to him for my dog and realized that I couldnt get yogi to stay on our property because the fence was just two wires and he got thru, so I asked if it was okay if Yogi joined the wedding

and the man said sure! no problem for Yogi to stick around for the celebrations or to come around since he seemed to lively. The man also said we could come by I think, then he showed me a card with his name on it which was a Co-worker from (supermarket I work at) so I was like "Oh! I also work there!", his name was something along the lines of Sanvri

uhh...

ah okay, I almost forgot

so, Yogi was fine to stay for the celebration and I was reliefed that they wouldnt be upset at Yogi darting around

at this time one of my siblings had also disappeared I think (the sister)

he also invited us to come as well, so I go back to my family and tell them that we are allowed to join them for the wedding as well

before the wedding my mother and I are sitting at a kid’s table hidden in some bushed, I'm eating a weird stringy salad out of a can (like algae salad) and Yogi or the other dog is there as well, this was actually I think when Yogi ran to the wedding, but finished eating before I went there, I"m not sure anymore

I'd also seen a weird thing around that was like a big great ball (like a yoga ball) on legs

almost as if there was a monster either among us, or hunting us, I couldnt be certain

so we go to the wedding with my brother, mom, dad, and some other dude we bring along

and we are now in a weirdly white sterile room, only large enough to fit a dinner table, with a door leading into the next room where the wedding was, and we are there to eat

my brother has a black bandage on his left leg up to his knee with what seems like a bow with a square plate in it

the host asks us if he has a certain illness (because it is highly contagious, and he would have to leave as to avoid risking his kids getting it) called something "shield" and my dad replies no, that it's something else, some unnamed illness every farm boy gets at some point (the host leaves, satisfied with that) and we all suddenly get very suspicious, I start inquiring, saying that the square on the bandage bow looks very shield (wappen) like and that it seemed part of the illness rather than the bandage and dad tries deflecting

so I ask what the hell this illness is supposed to be called then if its literally common enough for every farm boy to get on their leg at some point

the dangerous illness was a weird black leg rot that apparently had this formation of an abcess that looked like this black bow with a square gem in it, and so brother had it

dad knowing he couldnt talk himself out of this got up

and we all suddenly knew that he was the impostor that was making my family disappear one by one

and he turned into

fucking Mike Wazowski

except kind of like a translucent Mike Wazowski where you could see all the blood vessels

a moment later everyone was back and we were in a national park where I was looking at the Direction Board, knowing what he was but everything was oddly fine, then I wooe up

I need to emphasize more how dingy everything was, the buildings were unlivable

also the dogs played a much bigger role but I cant describe those parts because of how blurry they are

I did forget to mention that eventually the female dog ran after yogi to the celebration, and suddenly they got along well

when dad turned the female dog hugged the shivering and scared yogi and hid his face in her fur so he wouldnt have to look

Biografia del personaggio Austin Milkon è il figlio di Dave Milkon e Amanda Wood. Ha tre fratelli che si chiamano Jake, Ethan e Chad, e lavora nel locale Shiley facendo il barista.

L'arrivo a Los Angeles e L'Amicizia con Allison Young Austin arriva a Los Angeles per cercare lavoro. Infatti viene subito assunto come barista da Lisa nel locale Shiley. Austin fa la conoscenza di Allison Young, fidanzata di Jake fratello di Austin. All'inizio non scorre buon sangue tra i due fratelli, infatti Austin dice al fratello che vuole restare nella città degli angeli perchè ha trovato lavoro, ma Jake dice ad Austin di lasciare Los Angeles. Austin non ha intenzione di lasciare la città e chiede ad Allison e Jake un posto dove vivere. Allison ne parla con Jake cercando di convincere l'uomo ad ospitare il fratello nella loro casa, Jake all'inizio non accetta ma in seguito Allison lo convince a far pace con Austin e ospitarlo nella loro grande casa. Austin quindi va a vivere assieme a Jake e Allison, e Austin fa molta amicizia con Allison. In seguito durante una discussione tra Austin e Allison, quest'ultima si sente male e quindi Austin accompagna la futura cognata Allison in ospedale perchè essendo incinta sente dei fortissimi dolori alla pancia. Austin dopo aver appreso dal medico che la ragazza è pronta per partorire, Austin chiama il fratello Jake che arriva subito in ospedale, e Allison partorisce la piccola Mya Milkon. Jake ringrazia il fratello di essere restato accanto alla sua donna e inizia a fidarsi di lui. Inoltre il loro rapporto si riavvicina molto, grazie anche ad Allison. Jake e Allison si sposano, e Austin fa da testimone al fratello, ed in seguito Jake e Allison e la loro bambina Mya si trasferiscono a New York uscendo di scena lasciando la casa ad Austin.

La relazione con Gina Foresta e La rivalità con Dave Milkon Austin scopre che suo padre Dave vuole restare a Los Angeles ed in un primo momento non la prenderà molto bene, ma poi lo accetta e i due cercano di creare rapporto padre-figlio. Austin fa amicizia con Donna, Theo, Ally, Lucas, Sonia, Luke e Haley, e passa molti momenti insieme ai suoi amici. Austin in seguito inizia una relazione con Gina Foresta, ignoto però che Gina sta frequentando anche Dave Milkon, padre di Austin. Questo nuovo triangolo amoroso durerà poco, sino a quando Gina scopre che Dave e Austin sono rispettivamente padre e figlio. La ragazza vuole dire tutto ad Austin, ma Linsey Melone scopre lo scandalo e lo dice ad Austin, che sconvolto lascia Gina. Gina poi si fa perdonare da Austin e i due tornano insieme causando la gelosia di Dave che in tutti i costi vuole conquistare la giovane Foresta. A Los Angeles arriva Amanda Wood, la madre di Austin ed ex moglie di Dave che scoperto lo scandalo di Gina con il resto della sua famiglia, minaccia la ragazza dicendole di lasciare Gina. Gina non si arrende e affronta Amanda. Amanda vorrebbe tornare con Dave, ma lui è ancora innamorato di Gina, quindi Amanda continua a minacciare Gina e si scontrano. Gina resta insieme ad Austin anche se Amanda disapprova la loro relazione. In seguito Austin assiste all'incidente della fidanzata Gina spinta in piscina sbattendo la testa da Lucas Chiummi perchè la ragazza aveva scoperto i flirt tra Linsey e Lucas alle spalle di Ally quindi durante una discussione tra Gina e Lucas, il ragazzo spinge la ragazza in piscina senza farlo apposta, ed Austin assiste alla scena e aiuta Lucas a salvare Gina. Gina si salva, ed Austin accusa Lucas di un tentato omicidio. In seguito Gina torna a frequentare Dave e hanno dei flirt, Linsey scopre tutto e lo dice ad Austin il quale perdona Gina e tornano insieme. In seguito Austin si scontra molte volte con il fratello Chad arrivato a Los Angeles, ma i due fanno pace grazie a Gina. La relazione tra Austin e Gina prosegue, ed Austin passa il Natale 2016 con i suoi amici.

La relazione con Linsey Melone Austin e Linsey passano tante notti insieme, ed Austin che crede che Linsey sia cambiata, quindi Austin lascia Gina ed inizia una relazione con Linsey. Quando Theo caccia da villa Foresta Linsey su consiglio di Ally, Austin ospita Linsey a casa sua dove passano dei bei momenti. Theo non è d'accordo della loro relazione, ma poi Ally dice a Theo che forse Linsey questa volta è veramente cambiata grazie ad Austin. Linsey racconta al fidanzato Austin di essere stata violentata dal padre quando lei era piccola e chiede al ragazzo di non dire niente a nessuno, e il ragazzo appoggia la Melone sostenendola. Linsey inoltre tenta il suicidio, salvata da Austin. La relazione tra Austin e Linsey prosegue, e quando Amanda madre di Austin scopre la relazione tra il figlio e l'ex rivale, Amanda tenta di uccidere Linsey in vasca da bagno ma Austin e Theo la salvano da annegamento.

La rivalità in tutto con Noah Chiummi Lucas, Ally, Theo, Austin e Linsey vanno a fare un viaggio di lavoro alle Hawaii dove Ally James è modella nel servizio fotografico. Durante il servizio fotografico di Ally, Linsey che ha una relazione con Austin, nota un bellissimo ragazzo sulla nave. Il giovane e sconosciuto Noah che stava su una grande nave in mare, fa amicizia con i 5 ragazzi quando Ally rischia seriamente di affogare in acqua con le altre modelle, ed lui, Lucas, Theo e Austin le salvano. Il fotografo insulta Ally incolpandola di aver rovinato il servizio fotografico, e Theo e Noah difendono la ragazza, e il giovane marinaio prende a pugni il fotografo, e tutti lo ringraziano. I 5 ragazzi invitano Noah in compagnia con loro, e Linsey che nel frattempo frequenta Austin diventa un ottima amica di Noah invitandolo a prendere una birra insieme. Nel frattempo Sonia Evans raggiunge gli amici alle Hawaii. Inoltre Noah, Lucas, Ally, Theo, Austin e Linsey vanno a fare i tuffi nelle cascate divertendosi molto. Noah che conosce molto bene le Hawaii porta la sua nuova amica Linsey a visitare il posto, e Linsey bacia l'uomo ed in seguito i due fanno visitare al resto del gruppo (tranne a Sonia) il resto delle Hawaii. Mentre i ragazzi camminano, Austin e Ally restano indietro, e mentre il ragazzo dice all'amica di raggiungere gli altri, Austin resta da solo e cade in un burrone. I 5 ragazzi vanno a cercare il ragazzo e solo Lucas e Noah riescono a salvare Austin che era finito nell'oceano. Linsey preoccupata viene consolata dall'amica Ally e il fidanzato di quest'ultima ovvero Theo, poi per fortuna Lucas e Noah portano Austin da Linsey cosi la ragazza si calma visto che il suo fidanzato sta bene. Tutto si risolve per il meglio, e Noah dopo aver fatto la conoscenza di Sonia, decide di partire con loro per andare a Los Angeles. La sera stessa del loro ritorno dalle Hawaii quindi a Los Angeles, Sonia rimane vittima in una sparatoria, ed i 6 ragazzi soccorrono Sonia che finisce in ospedale, ma Noah riesce a salvarla donandole il proprio sangue cosi Sonia si riprende. La stessa notte della sparatoria di Sonia, Noah finisce a letto con Linsey Melone (fidanzata di Austin) creando in seguito scontri tra i due uomini. Linsey lascia Austin e inizia una relazione con Noah che lo lascia quando lei crede che lui sia povero visto che vive sulla nave ma i due restano comunque ottimi amici. Linsey nel frattempo cambia idea su Noah e tenta di rimettersi con lui visto che è un Chiummi, i due si rimettono insieme ma si lasciano quando Linsey scambia dei baci con Austin. Quando il locale Shiley va in crisi rischiando di chiudere, Noah compra il locale facendo infuriare Austin e Linsey licenziando quest'ultima, ed cosi Noah, Lisa, Quinn e Austin gestiscono il locale, anche se all’inizio Austin non vuole lavorare con Noah incolpandolo ancora di avergli rubato Linsey. Ma poi Noah e Austin fanno pace. Quando Linsey torna insieme ad Austin, il fratello di Noah ovvero Nathaniel mette della droga nel bicchiere di Linsey, la quale passa una notte con Noah visto che è ubriaco. Linsey dice ad Austin di aver fatto sesso con Noah, e i due uomini tornano a litigare. Linsey scopre di essere stata drogata e accusa Noah denunciandolo mandandolo in tribunale. Alla fine Noah scopre che è stato suo fratello Nathaniel a drogare Linsey, cosi lo dice a tutti e cosi Noah fa pace con Austin e Linsey, mentre Nathaniel esce di scena. Austin e Linsey si lasciano definitivamente, lei confessa ad Austin di essere la causa del suicidio del padre e che è stata quindi lei stessa ad uccidere suo padre per poi fingere che si è suicidato, Austin ne rimane sconvolto ma promette di non dirlo a nessuno. Austin appoggia Linsey quando quest'ultima confessa la verità dell'omicidio del padre ad Annie, madre di Linsey. Dopodiché Linsey lascia Los Angeles per tornare a Londra dalla madre.

La relazione con Carol Store Austin inizia a frequentare Carol Store una carissima amica di Theo e Lucas. All'inizio tra Austin e Carol sarà solo sesso fino a quando Austin e Carol ricambiano i loro sentimenti iniziando una relazione. Carol di origini giapponese-coreana si preoccupa molto quando i suoi genitori scoprono che la ragazza frequenta un americano. Vorrebbero infatti che lei un giorno sposasse un giapponese, ma Carol ama troppo Austin e cosi i genitori di Carol la buttano fuori casa la quale la ragazza va a vivere a villa Foresta dove si trasferisce pure Austin vendendo la casa di Allison (dove abitava fino a questo momento Austin) al fratello Chad. Carol scopre di essere incinta ma il figlio potrebbe essere o di Theo o di Austin. Alla fine si scopre che il figlio che aspetta è di Austin ma non vorrebbe dirlo al ragazzo perchè crede che lui lascerà dopo aver scoperto della gravidanza.

Il matrimonio con Carol Store Carol tiene in segreto la gravidanza solo per se per diversi mesi poi però decide di confidarsi con le amiche Sonia e Ally e dice a loro due di aver paura a dirlo ad Austin perché lui potrebbe lasciarla. Nonostante tutto Sonia e Ally la incoraggiano ad essere sincera con Milkon. Cosi Carol con il supporto delle sue amiche, decide di dire ad Austin della gravidanza. Il ragazzo sconvolto la lascia ma poi grazie a Lucas, Luke, Noah e Theo, Austin decide di tornare con Carol accettando la gravidanza. Austin fa la proposta di matrimonio a Carol ma lei non accetta perché crede che il ragazzo la sposi solo perché aspetta un figlio da lui. Poi però grazie a Sonia e Ally, Carol decide di sposare Austin perché i due si amano. Austin e Carol si sposano a Villa Foresta con la partecipazione di famigliari e amici. Nei mesi successivi, Austin scopre sua madre Amanda a letto con l'amico Luke Chiummi e ne rimane sconvolto dichiarando guerra al suo amico ma poi fanno pace. Austin in seguito è sconvolto quando suo padre Dave muore tragicamente. Nel corso degli altri mesi, Austin e Carol non hanno trame significative.

L'amore per Jessica Horton e Il divorzio da Carol Austin e Jessica si avvicinano e finiscono a letto insieme. Vengono sorpresi da Carol la quale sconvolta si sente male perché le si rompono le acque pronta a partorire viene ricoverata in ospedale. Jessica resta accanto ad Austin il quale si sente tanto in colpa per aver tradito Carol. Austin dice a Jessica di amarla molto e vuole una vita con lei. Carol rischia di morire quando partorisce la bambina mentre la bambina non respira e non piange durante la nascita. Nathan avvisa Austin delle condizioni di Carol e della loro figlia che rischiano di morire entrambe. Jessica consola Austin, il quale non vuole perdere moglie e figlia. Alla fine Carol riesce a riprendersi e la bambina riesce a respirare bene. Austin è felice e abbraccia Jessica. Austin fa visita a Carol che tiene in bracco la loro figlia che decidono di chiamarla Maddy. Austin è felice di essere diventato papà ma dice alla moglie di amare la prostituta e spogliarellista Jessica. Carol in lacrime lascia Austin e vuole il divorzio. Carol torna a casa e caccia di casa il marito Austin. Carol va ad affrontare Jessica e la accusa di aver rovinato la propria famiglia. Carol e Jessica si scontrano per Austin. Austin e Carol divorziano, Carol lascia la città con la propria famiglia e con la piccola Maddy uscendo di scena.

Biografia del personaggio Austin Milkon è il figlio di Dave Milkon e Amanda Wood. Ha tre fratelli che si chiamano Jake, Ethan e Chad, e lavora nel locale Shiley facendo il barista.

La relazione con Jessica Horton Austin e Jessica iniziano una relazione, Austin chiede alla fidanzata di lasciare l'ambito lavorativo della prostituzione e della spogliarellista, Jessica accetta per amore di Austin. Austin lascia il lavoro come barista e viene assunto come stilista e modello alla Foresta, disegnando accanto alla fidanzata Jessica. La loro relazione prosegue anche se Cooper è un po' geloso. In seguito Jessica viene rapita dal suo ex protettore Paul. Cosi Austin, Coop e Claire con l'aiuto dei detective Alex e Owen, riescono a trovare Jessica. Per telefono Paul ricatta Austin dicendogli di volere i 500.000 dollari sennò Jessica morirà. Austin porta i dollari che gli ha dato Coop da portargli a Paul e tenta di liberare Jessica. A conclusione della vicenda, Jessica viene liberata da Austin mentre Alex e Owen arrestano Paul. Jessica sta bene e ringrazia il suo fidanzato Austin dicendogli che è stato molto coraggioso. La loro relazione prosegue ma poi Jessica tradisce Austin andando a letto con Adam Young e poi con Samuel Young. Austin scopre i tradimenti di Jessica e la lascia ed la ragazza si fa consolare da Lucky Chiummi. Lucky e Jessica iniziano una relazione facendo ingelosire Austin.

La notte con Jackie Malloy Austin sta molto male da quando si è lasciato con Jessica e cosi conosce Jackie Malloy, madre di Jessica. Austin si ubriaca e finisce a letto con Jackie per vendicarsi di Jessica (anche Jackie vuole vendicarsi della figlia). Jessica li scopre e si scontra con la madre Jackie e con Austin. Austin dice a Jessica che loro due non stanno più insieme e quindi lui può fare ciò che vuole. Austin e Jackie comunque si allontanano perché Jackie è incinta e innamorata di Daniel Walter, amore non ricambiato perché Daniel continua ad amare Jasmine.

La relazione con Ginevra Foresta e gli scontri con Edward Milkon Austin conosce Ginevra Foresta, sorella di Gina. Austin e Ginevra iniziano una relazione ma lei viene corteggiata anche da Edward Milkon, fratellastro di Austin. Edward e Ginevra finiscono a letto insieme ma in seguito Austin viene a sapere dei loro tradimenti e perdona Ginevra ma si scontra con Edward. Ginevra sceglie di restare con Austin perché lo ama. La relazione tra Austin e Ginevra prosegue.

Il matrimonio con Ginevra Foresta La relazione tra Austin e Ginevra prosegue. In seguito Ginevra scopre di essere incinta di Austin e lo dice ad Austin. Austin felice chiede a Ginevra di sposarlo e lei accetta. Austin e Ginevra si sposano a Villa Foresta con la partecipazione di tutti. Austin e Ginevra vanno in luna di miele. Tornati dalla luna di miele, Austin e Ginevra vivono la loro vita da sposati. Austin finalmente è davvero felice con Ginevra.
