Kamanga hails foreign based stars
Tumblr media
By Mercy Chewe FAZ President Andrew Kamanga is impressed with the performance of foreign based Zambian players. In his weekly column, Kamanga said Zambian players in foreign leagues made tremendous steps in 2021. He named striker Patson Daka of Leicester, Enock Mwepu of Brighton & Albion, Rangers striker Fashion Sakala, striker Augustine Mulenga, keeper Toaster Nsabata and Gamphani Lungu as some players doing fine. Kamanga said the good performance of players in foreign leagues and in the local league gives him confidence that Zambia will excel in 2022. “We are also happy to look back on the tremendous steps made by some of our players in foreign leagues in 2021. We saw three of our Chipolopolo players break into top leagues in Europe with Patson Daka (Leicester), Enock Mwepu (Brighton& Albion) breaking into the English Premiership League while Fashion Sakala headed to Scotland (Glasgow Rangers),” Kamanga wrote. “The form of players like Edward Chilufya and Emmanuel Banda in Sweden (both Djurgardens) with the two Kangwas in Russia (Arsenal Tula), Kings and Evans gives us belief that our team will morph into a strong force. We have other players doing very well on the African continent like in South Africa where Augustine Mulenga, Toaster Nsabata, Gamphani Lungu while Clatous Chama in Morocco and Tandi Mwape are also striking the postures.” Kamanga added:”Domestically, we can also take pride in some strides our local players are making in our league confirming the MTN Super League as being among the top in Africa. Ultimately, we hope that the new Chipolopolo coach will make the best out of these players in building a strong squad.” Read the full article

Zambia face Nigeria in Titanic clash
The Zambia Under-23 National Team Olympic dream faces its sternest test this evening (Tuesday) as the Bola-Na-Lesa boys take on Nigeria in their second Group B tie at Al Salam Stadium. Zambia drew 0-0 with South Africa on match day one while Nigeria lost 1-0 to Ivory Coast. Both sides suffered the absence of key players in the opening match and will be at full strength today heightening expectations among fans. Beston Chambeshi has welcomed the trinity of Fashion Sakala, Enock Mwepu and Patson Daka to his set up and will be expected to throw them in the deep end of the pool this evening. In goal Mangani Banda is expected to take up his place with a familiar back four comprising Solomon Sakala, Moses Nyondo, Shemmy Mayembe and Prosper Chiluya. In the midfield Ngosa Sunzu whose standout performance in the opening match sets him as a sure choice will be the anchor-man with either Field Kandela or Emmanuel Banda partnering him. The imperious Mwepu will be expected to be deployed in an advanced role that may have Daka and Kings Kangwa at the tip while Edward Chilufya and Biston Banda may take up the wings. Beston Chambeshi’s side should by wary of the threat posed by Nigeria skipper Azubuike Okechukwu and Taiwo Awoniyi. Awoniyi is on the books of FSV Mainz 05 while Okechukwu plies his trade in Turkey. With all the players in Chambeshi’s Bola-Na-Lesa boys set-up in his lads will be oiled enough to believe in their invincibility against any opposition. Ivory Coast leads Group B on three points while Zambia and South Africa are in joint second with a point apiece with the Olympic Eagles stuck at the foot of the table with naught points. In the games played on Monday, hosts Egypt maintained their command of Group A with two wins in as many games after edging out Ghana 3-2 in a thrilling encounter while Mali suffered their second defeat after losing 1-0 to Cameroon. Kick off is at 20:00 hours. FAZ Read the full article

Road to Tokyo: Tough competition for U23 places -Musonda
Zambia Under-23 national team assistant coach Bilton Musonda says competition for places between local and foreign based players will be stiff ahead of the Egypt 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Congo Brazzaville. Musonda told Fazambia.com that the players in camp were working very hard knowing how competitive the squad. He said that the technical bench had come up with a perfect mesh from the graduates from 2017 Under-20 winning side and new call ups to challenge for qualification. “The new call ups are doing fine, they have brought competition to the squad. It is helping making a formidable side. We just have to prepare adequately for Congo Brazzaville,” he said. “It will not be easy for us to pick a team but we need to do it. It will give us a good dimension to come up with a good side.” Musonda hailed FAZ for having attached importance to the u23 squad as they chase for Olympic qualification. “I think as FAZ they are doing their best to make sure that we are prepared. They have even planned to camp the team outside,” he said. Preparations for the Egypt 2019 AFCON qualifier have entered week two with foreign based players expected to join in the final stages of the preparation. Kabwe Warriors players are expected to join camp today as they had a league match on Sunday with Nkana players exempted owing to league outstanding engagements. Zambia qualified to the final round after defeating Malawi 2-0 over two legs and will face Congo Brazzaville in the final qualifying round.
