Shimura sometime after the spare ending: Jin Sakai is no longer samurai
Masako: sure. But this is Jin Adachi, heir to the Adachi clan not Jin Sakai. Oh there's his lovely wife Yuna Adachi.
Shimura looks like he's going to explode
I won’t lie to you, anon, I sat here for a full five seconds like Adachi…? Koichi? Before I remembered that there is also an Adachi in Ghost 😂😂😂
Uh, anyway lmao
Shimura just like

Koichi Sakai / Afla Sackey - Wono - electronics + West African percussion (OIindo Records)
Following a successful EP in 2019, featuring remixes from Osunlade & Pocz, Olindo Records are proud to present “Wono”, the debut collaborative album from Koichi Sakai & Afla Sackey. The album is a deep exploration of Koichi's love of both electronic and West African music, in close collaboration with Ghana-born master percussionist, singer, band leader, teacher and songwriter, Afla Sackey. The album features 7 tracks ranging from the meditative Yamb, which features master Kora player Kadialy Kouyate, to the acid infused, slow house workout of Niege. Passing through a contemporary Highlife take on Suolo and a shorter version of the previously released Jingo. "Wono" means "It's Ours" in Ga. As in that which you desire, will be yours in time, even if you do not possess it now. So don’t rush brother, patience is a virtue.

I finally had a chance to sit down and watch Mibu Gishiden today. I've not actually read the book but I have read the first nine volumes of the manga (which is still ongoing and based on the book), so I had a little background information to the movie before watching it.
...
Yoshimura Kanichiro, a poor ronin from Morioka, comes to Kyoto to join the Shinsengumi, though he appears mostly interested in the money rather than having a strong conviction to fight for the shogunate and against the forces pushing for a restoration of imperial rule.
Over the course of the movie, we learn that Yoshimura is sending pretty much all of the money he earns home to his wife and three children, whom he has left behind when he deserted his clan to fight for the shogunate. (It seems he really left because it was the only way for him to earn enough money to keep his family from starving.)
He runs afoul of Saito Hajime, who is Yoshimura's polar opposite in every possible way, and who immediately takes a dislike to him because of his prattling on about family back home, but they eventually develop something of an uncomfortable friendship.
...
I hate to say this, but I didn't love it, and it's largely due to the casting.
Mibu Gishiden was done in 2003, a year prior to the NHK Shinsengumi! series, and it uses several of the same actors: Sakai Masato and Sato Koichi, specifically. Sakai plays Yamanami Keisuke in Shinsengumi and Okita Soji in Mibu Gishiden, and Sato Koichi plays Serizawa Kamo in Shinsengumi and Saito Hajime in Mibu Gishiden.
Even if it weren't for the fact that Serizawa Kamo's face attached to Saito Hajime was bewildering and uncomfortable since I've seen the Shinsengumi! series first, the fact that both actors are so much older than the characters they're playing just killed it for me: Sato was 44 and Sakai was 30 when Mibu Gishiden was filmed, even though both Saito and Okita were in their early 20s.
I wasn't as bothered by the age issue with Yoshimura, who historically would have been 25 when he joined the Shinsengumi, but was played by Nakai Kiichi, who was 42 when Mibu Gishiden was filmed. I'm guessing it didn't bother me as much because I wasn't as familiar with the historical Yoshimura.
Anyway...
One thing Mibu Gishiden did well were the fight scenes, which are appropriately bloody, something that is generally missing from NHK series because they are aimed at "all ages" audiences, while feature films don't have to worry about the same restrictions.
Historically, Mibu Gishiden has some issues, but that's neither here nor there as I don't necessarily expect historical accuracy with my entertainment. (If I did, I would probably not watch any period pieces or war films, to be honest.)

Stage/Seating
Tumblr media
There will be 5 sections on the stage (gold area) that have seats for audience. They’re called “Comet Seats S/A” (black areas, except the bottom right one, which will be the orchestra pit). Normal seats are in the auditorium (gray area). The image above does not necessarily show the actual set/seating design.
Fun Facts
Yoshio Inoue (Pierre) is one of the most popular musical theatre actors in Japan.
He’s btw two years older than Josh Groban.
Erika Ikuta (Natasha) is from a girl idol group called Nogizaka46. She's been in a few musicals including Les Misérables and Mozart!.
Meili-Mu (Balaga) is a drag queen who identifies himself as a gay man.
* Actually I’m not really familiar with this show, but it seems it’s drawing a great amount of attention from non-Japanese speaking musical theatre fans, so I made this post. I’m happy that people are getting aware of Japanese musical theatre! There's been a lot of great productions in the past and the future.
