Look, the problem is, if you are dependent on funding from foreign aid organisations, they have all these conditions and ideas about how you should work. You know, they come in and bring somebody to check how you’re doing the work – who doesn’t live here, who doesn’t understand the reality, who doesn’t understand the society. Palestinian society is quite complicated. There are still a lot of tribal, religious, and family lines, and you have the differences among the city, the towns, the refugee camps, [and] the villages. You cannot just come up with a set plan of how things should be. And unfortunately, over the past ten years the Israeli government has also been making it harder for foreign aid organisations to support local Palestinian organisations. Now there are a lot more rules; it’s become much more difficult with bank transfers and with what you are allowed to do here. Most of the organisations want to do everything legally, then you have to abide by rules that Israel imposes.
A lot of organisations now can only transfer money if there is an Israeli counterpart. Some organisations do that, and they are of course looked upon here as ‘normalisation’. Like, how do you work together with part of the oppressors, even if they seem to have good intentions? There is still no equality; it’s very out of balance. Also, what we saw is that a lot of local organisations get all this money, and most of [it] doesn’t go to the community. It goes to paying for the office, it goes to paying the people’s wages... I mean, OK, these people are working – they need to be paid. But in the end, we were looking to the outcome, and we were often disappointed. Or we saw much more potential, but the director is satisfied because he’s being paid, his staff is being paid, [and] they can write nice annual reports. So that was our frustration. – Kristel

Hi Blog! Hello everyone ☺️. I am Mhaire Shaine Kristel M. Adier, 18 years of age. A senior high student of Gaudencio E. Abordo Memorial National High School. And now, I just want to share with you my experienced last sy. 2022-2023. Enjoy reading! 🤍
*First, I want to share with you this picture.
✓ Actually, it was the first day of school when we were still in grade 11. Of course, when friends meet again for the first time, take a picture. Because I like to take a picture of remembrance, so that when the time comes I have something to remember when I see that picture again. It's also a time where, we are excited about the lessons, even if we feel pressured and nervous.
*Selfie with them.❤️
✓ This picture reminds me that two separate sections are now together. As a reminder, we took a group picture, again, another document that could be memorized. Today is a happy day because one of our teachers is with us. It's exciting because we will meet many more and our family will grow. At first it was refreshing because the people you used to only meet will now be in the same room with you. The one you used to just want to be with, now you're really with them and it feels good.
*Groupie!🥰
✓ First day with the other section. It's a little nerve-wracking and new, but it's okay, I still have solid friends with me. There's no obvious pressure there, of course that's what you'll feel when you meet new faces and new habits. Of course another adjustment will happen. In this picture, we were still quite at first, just observing. Obviously addicted to the picture, as well as the memory, so that one day someone will miss the perfect ones.
*Bonding with friends!🤍
✓ Just a little bonding and talking after doing the activity. Actually, group activity. When we were done, we decided to go to the beach to get some fresh air and bond while we still had time. Share of the fullness of life, laughter and teasing. Sometimes we also need to take a break from things that are quite complicated, give yourself time to relax even just for a little while. Enjoy and be happy!😊
*Long walk with them.
✓ It's more fun! longer hours, more to talk about and more to do. Sign that we have unity in our friendship. That time because we passed by Villa Fria, we went there on a trip to spend more time together and it was worth it because we got to know each other better. When I see this picture, especially when I'm alone, I laugh because I remember our laughter and teasing while we were going home, I miss it. Sometimes you lose track of time because of the fun, it relieves fatigue and stress.
*Milktea before exam!🧋
✓ This is the last quarter of our exam, so milktea with friends first. Relax, relax and relax along with a cooler, to cool down a little stress in the exam. I like to take a pictures of important events in life that are connected to me especially when I want to keep them as a remembrance. Because even the smallest things that make me happy are important to me.
*With honor!💗 (Fourth quarter)
✓ I want to say that I am proud of myself, of my whole me who is willing to face all the trials of life even when it is tiring and discouraging. I'm proud of myself because I remain strong and strong in all life's challenges.
📌 For students like me, let's not think about the difficulty, let's think that we can do it. Let's think about how we can get out of the hardships of life, it's just a challenge for us so let's always choose to be strong. Make the sacrifice our parents give us an inspiration, don't give up because I believe we can overcome it. No matter how hard we go through, it's worth it in the end if we work harder. God is good in all the time.
Thank you for reading! Godbless.😇❤️

Varsity girl
On the 11th day of January 2003, Pamela Bugayong Desate was born at Camiling ,Tarlac. She is the younger among the 3 children of Mr. Leandro Salonga Desate and Mrs. Ruth Bugayong Desate. The family currently resides at Barangay Cacamilingan Norte,Camiling ,Tarlac. Her goals is to become a literate in the near future,to help her family. And she wants to be a Doctor someday,to help other people.
On the year 2009 she attended school at the age of 5 at Camiling East central Elementary School. In the middle of 2009, her mother go to paris to work for their daily needs. So that their father is the only one who take care of them.At the same year her grandfather died, her mother was not anble to go back home.So her mother’s siblings are the one who go home and help their grandmother with their grandfather’s funeral. At year 2010 she attended her 1st grade at the same school where in she show an excellent performance at her room. Also she have a high grades and get the top 7 until on her 3rd grade. Then on her 5th grade she joined the try outs fir varsity, but unfortunately she did not pass the try out.On her 6th grade she joined the try out again, and to her luck she was able to become a varsity player. It is her first time to join a competition and represent her school because for her it is a big honor for them. They compete at District meet also at Municipal meet and they manage to surpass all of their opponents, but when Provincial meet came they lost and won as a 3rd place. They are happy even though they lost because atleast they did their best.
Until she enrolled at Camiling Catholic School where in she also joined the varsity team.In her 1st year she adjust to jer srroundings because highschool life is harder than way back when elementary days. Also she would have a new partner. As time pass by they bond with each other so that they will be comfortable with each other and no awkwardness. Then Alliance of Private School in Tarlac Province(APSTAP)came, they lost in the semifinals and won as a 3rd place.their coaches are Mr. Rafael Guillermo and Mrs. Fe Ayap who congratulate them even though they lost they still support their players.Their coaches give advice to them that they should workhard for it and on the nextyear event they will get the championship.

At her 10th grade her father died on July 25, 2018.It was unexpected for them because, though they mourned for their father’s death. Many people comes to the funeral of her father also the Camcs teachers and other students. Her friends and classmates come often to cheer her up.Then the last quarter came where in, they should make a cheerdance for their performance task in Mapeh. It was hard than they think, they thought they would not finish the dance, but unity happened. On the day of Saturday it was their last quarterly exam then after that is the performing of the cheerdance. All of the Saint Albert the Great was nervous because they think their dance will be unattractive. As the performance going they sigh in relief because they hear the audiences cheering for them, shouting and seem to be satisfy of what they are watching. At the end of their performace they shouted at glee because they finished their dance.
Then the last 1 week for them to bond with each other as a section. It is the saddest moment for her, because after that 1 week it is time to goodbye.Until days pass by, it is the day of their Moving up ceremony.Their adiviser was very proud of them, because at lazt they make it and they all went up on stage. In her life Saint Albert the Great wiil always be remain on her heart, best section ever.ALBERTUS MAGNUS MABANGIS.

10-Aurum Familia, thanks for the memories! I am grateful to have every single one of you. Reflecting from our past memories and experiences together made me realize that another milestone of my life has been achieved. As an appreciation for everyone, here’s a message for all:

CJ Andrade, sorry for stressing you out in our Science Investigatory Project. Keep influencing young leaders to give their best in everything, continue with your writing abilities, and as much as possible enjoy life and keep your temper chilled.
Andrew Antonio, remain a meek person. What I appreciate in you is your habit of always taking the chance of giving back the praise to God, despite the dozens of achievements. Whenever I check your Periodic Test Papers, after the last no. writes: “TO GOD BE THE GLORY!!!” Thanks for tutoring and assisting in the lessons we don’t understand, may you continue in giving your best for God!

In this week, I watched two virtual lectures series, the "Startup Ecosystem in the Philippines and Why do you need to start now" by sir CJ Brasileno and the second lecture by sir Kit and ma'am Kristel on the "Startup Journey" of their life.
In the first lecture I've learned the true definition of startup as a first part of the discussion of sir CJ. Start-up is defined in the lecture as an early stage business; a product or service that immediately solves a known problem through new ways; unorthodox in terms of business model, a disruptive in nature and is composed of 2-3 persons whom are called founders of a business.
Mr. Brasileno highlighted some startups in the Philippines, and these include Grab, institution, wattSmart, WELA, Zinergi, cropital and etc. I also learned that there is this so called Startup Ecosystem. The ecosystem is formed by founders, entrepreneurs, small businesses, investors, enthusiasts, accelerator, universities/schools, incubator, mentors and startup evangelists. The ecosystem startups are rapidly growing and there are many discoveries that can be a competitor to other existing businesses. We can be a part of this startups by simply joining and to be part of the growing ecosystem. Always remember that, participation is the key to changes.
There are also some criteria you need to consider when establishing a business, and these are capital, talent, density, culture and regulatory environment which are very crucial to deal with.
After establishing a startup, there are trials and challenges that you will encounter along the way like how sir Kit experienced hardship in his journey. Starting a business is not easy at all, it is just like putting your life at risk, and you need to be ready in failure because not all people are lucky in their first trial. There is always hardship in the starting point of business, and from time to time everything should adjust. There are also some discouragements in the middle of the process.Establishing a business should be a well plan and brainstorm. You should not decide if you're just curious about a particular thing because "curiosity killed the cat", which means that there are many dangers of unnecessary investigation or experimentation. And we should always remember that there is nothing permanent so be a wise version of our self. If we are in the top of success today, we don't know what our life will be in the other day.
Indeed, the two lectures series taught me how to be a wise, fighter, and to be positive person. It also encourage me to dream more and work harder. It also give moral to some people who have plan to establish business that great things in business are rarely done by one person, they're often done by a team of peope.
" If you dont go after what you want, you'll never have it. If you don't ask, the answer is always no. If you don't step forward, you're always in the same place."

How did I get here?
“I know you’re meant to go somewhere.”
that was what my previous boss said to me when I told her that I was going to give my resignation letter. I was not sure if it was just a millennial trait, or it’s just who I am that I can leave my 9-5 stable job and my comfortable life behind just for some adventure abroad. I even told my family and some friends that I didn't want any “despedida" or farewell party for me… and the next thing I know, I was already waiting for my next flight from Doha, Qatar to Houston, Texas.
Thinking about how bravely I left the life I built in the Philippines feels surreal. But it was not easy thinking it was actually a decent paying corporate job and I was also doing something noble on my free time at that time: Spending my weekends to volunteer as a tutor for a NGO project or join different organizations. It was even harder to think I wouldn’t be able to socialize with my friends or have date nights whenever I want to or visit my parents who live three hours away from me anymore.
I mean, how could I leave all of it? How did I get here?
Two years ago, I was looking for opportunities for working abroad. I would patiently sit and listen to some seminars on student-visa opportunities for New Zealand and Canada. But... all of them needed more than half million pesos for processing fee or I found other opportunities to be just scams. I remember crying at XU chapel knowing that that money was more than I could afford because I'm entirely self-financed. After the tears have dried off, I decided to get a milk tea to make myself feel better. Then I buried that plan with the thought, “maybe it’s not for me.”
Months had passed...
Suddenly, the universe decided to work on my side. It was just a typical day of January 2018 when I happened to talk with a friend who told me about his sibling in the States. I was like… suspicious. I can still remember the day I sent a message to his sister on Facebook asking about the details of the program. Then I finally made up my mind to apply to the same program but I won’t force it if it’s not really for me. However, it happened so fast that around April, my visa got approved and shared the good news with my family and a handful of trusted friends only. On June of 2018, I packed my bags and left the Philippines without a fuss.
Backtrack to ten years ago, I have always loved seeing the birds flying and soaring up in the sky. I want to fly like them too. I had this feeling that there must be more than the provincial life.
And yes, I was right. There is.
Here I am today feeling the Texas heat on a spring day of 2019 as I sip a venti of caramel macchiato. I am truly grateful and in awe knowing that everything happened for a reason. I can finally say, I am ready to share my adventures one coffee at a time…
Sincerely,
Kristelle

Happy Album Launch!
Press PLAY.
TRACK #1: Opposites Attract
“You take me just as I am. No more, no less, just as I am, oh yeah..”
She's Elisse. He's McCoy. There's Mc and there's Lisse. The grand album launch gave Mc & Lisse the opportunity to perform as indivuals.
Elisse became Selena Gomez for a few minutes and wowed the crowd with her cover of “Wolves” WHOA. Elisse surely conquered all the wolves, the Elisse we know leveled up and truly got to us through that surprising song and dance number.
McCoy had his time to shine as well. The Heartthrob dancer didn't disappoint us with his own surprise number. My Gaaaahd, McCoy. How can we even listen to Bruno Mars's Versace on the Floor properly now? Hehe. It was a special performance, not because he took off his jacket (Kayo ahhhh) It was extra special because McCoy danced with his equally talented brother on stage once again. What a bonus!
McCoy and Elisse may be similar in some ways, but everyone in this fanmily is also a fan of their differences-- the ones that make them stand out, as two separate individuals and as a pair. Didn't McLisse say before that they're always helping each other out? Their interests may sometimes clash, their forte may not be exactly the same but these differences have propelled us to go farther than what we initially planned. Sometimes, we just really have to let their values and beliefs do their part. Look at where we are now. The opposite sides continue to attract each other and produce wonderful things together. We love them for who they are, for every similarities and differences. No more, no less.
Squeeeeee! Tom & Jerry are so different from each other, they fight a lot but at the end of the day, we all know they still can't live without each other.
TRACK #2: Chinito
“Dahil nabihag mo ang aking pagtingin at damdamin, oh chinito!”
Wow. Chinito was just a song they used for their SwerTeen Ball performance last year but now the song has been included in their album tracklist. It even got a fresh spin and yessss, it sounds really nice!!
We know McCoy is full of surprises. Surprises that don't just come from nowhere. Well, to be fair we were already expecting a surprise but we still didn't know how to react when he pulled the necklace out. It is a piece of jewelry, an accessory, a gift that a boy usually gives to a girl but the necklace he gave her holds more meaning that any other fancy-pa-cute-lang-necklace out there. It's really touching that they allow God to guide them in their relationship. Prayers can really move mountains! There goes McLisse climbing and moving mountains together with God by their side.
“Hanggang ngayon nasa akin ka pa din.” Killer line of the night, bes. 150 pogi points for this Chinito! We've heard of how special they are to each other. We couldn't explain it, but when it comes to McLisse, sincerity just overflows. They are not that kind of pair who does things because they are forced to. Alam niyo na. Just because you could, doesn't mean you should. One word, respect. Everything goes well with a perfect timing. We must be mindful that certain situations also call for appropriate actions and reactions. No one wants things to look so pilit or pang-promo lang, right? We all can be a little lowkey here for the sake of protecting the highkey side of their relationship. As one of their celebrity guests, Kristel said, FIGHTING!!
TRACK #3: Para Lang Sayo
“Ako'y iibig pang muli.. para lang sa'yo.”
Another achievement was unlocked. McCoy and Elisse were just joking on the possibility of having an album before but now we're already holding their ALBUM in our hands. We didn't give up because they didn't. They grew stronger that's why we're now stronger more than ever.
People will have different opinions on this project but do they really have to matter now? No, right? If we'll translate “Para Lang Sayo” to English, it'll be “Just for you” or “Only for you.” Who are we all cheering for? Who do we have to put our focus on? Who are we supporting anyway? It's McLisse. Just McLisse. Only McLisse. BOTH of them. So, there's no need to divert our attention to nega people who don't appreciate music the way we do. Just continue to appreciate the music that jives with respect and positivity. Plug your earphones and ignore the noise.
Para sa McLisse, we can do anything. Nothing's impossible if we will all help one another. Speaking of which, everyone in this fanmily is so grateful beyond words for all the support coming from the Globies/Team Abroad, Team Bahay, Team Online and even the silent fans.
It was so heartwarming to hear stories of old and new fans on how they came to like McLisse. People who were on the line happily talked about them, mentioning their PBB stint up to their latest teleserye, The Good Son. (Yasss. I’ve heard them. Hihihi) It was nakakakilig to see people of all ages smiling because of McLisse. The people who lined up also came from different demographics. Girl, boy, lgbt, kids, teens, young adults, parents and grandparents. Imagine, sitting in a venue where there's a grandmother in front of your seat, a two-year old baby at your back, a teenage boy on your right and a father on your left. McCoy said it was just a “Get together” or a gathering of all the fans. He got it right for the album launch also became a family gathering and a barkada bonding of some sort.
TRACK #4: Yakap
“Dahil kung ikaw ang yakap ko, parang yakap ko ang langit. At yakap pati ang 'yong ngiti...”
Yakap. A word that is very significant to McLisse fanmily. Would you believe us when we say McLisse gives the best-est hugs ever? You may ask us, “But were they able to hug you one by one?” Well, some of us had already got the chance to hug them in rare occasions but McLisse gives that one-of-the-kind hug in a place where we're not physically present. McCoy and Elisse give the best virtual hugs that a loveteam could ever give. They comfort us. They're always warm toward us. They accept us with arms wide open.
McCoy may sing “Yakap” and you know we'll just have one person in mind (ehem, Elisse... ehem!) but everytime we hear the word “Yakap” we just automatically smile because of one thing. McLisse fanmily is wrapped up together in a very tight embrace. Some have left the circle, some just came in and joined without thinking twice, some have loosen their grip but some have doubled the effort to make the grip of everyone else tighter than before and they are the ones who don't easily give up and step away from the circle-- the hardworking admins of different McLisse fanclubs, you guys deserve tight hugs!!!
Their families were also there to support them. They have truly made their parents proud. Our parents are our very first cheerleaders, our source of strength and our greatest love. We, as son and daughters should work harder and let them sit in the front row as we show them how amazing we've become. They are the ones who deserve a standing ovation for all the love they've showered us before we even held our own microphones and opened our mouths to speak or to sing. McCoy & Elisse made them the proudest of all the people present in SM Skydome. They love their parents so much and it inspires us, their fans to be more loving to our family and to value the time we spend with them. Role models, indeed.
Awww. McCoy and Elisse have found new friends inside Kuya's house. These unbelievably supportive friends deserve a hug too! MayMay, Edward and Jinri (and of course, all their other celebrity friends who aren't in this photo) McLisse fanmily are so grateful to you for making yourself available to show your support to McCoy and Elisse. We, as fans love seeing them surrounded by genuine people who truly know them well since the beginning of their journey as partners.
TRACK #5: If We Fall In Love
“If we fall in love, we will have this melody in our heads...”
It's official. We're in love with the McLisse album!
The album is “very McLisse.” It has feel good tracks that can make you smile. The new arrangements sound lighter than the original but you can definitely tell they were arranged that way to give off that easy-listening vibe. The album is a perfect jam and cure for troubled hearts or anyone who just wants to take a break from a very tiring day. It's the kind of album that you can give to your friend (who's also a yengster or for someone who has a soft spot for sessionistas and their hits!) you can also give it to your significant other (yihee!! exchange gift na with crushie or honey!) and even to your parents (let them reminisce their younger and carefree days, ligawan stage and other kilig days of the past!)
Thank you Star Music. This album is really one of the best gifts McCoy & Elisse have ever received. It is also one of the most memorable gifts we got. Something unexpected, something heartfelt, something that is nicely wrapped, looks soft on the outside but proves to be softer and... sweeter on the inside! We feel really blessed. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
Here's to creating more wonderful hits in the future! More power to our OTP, McCoy & Elisse, who are now certified recording artists!! Congrats loves!

Just need to say this
Safety is an odd thing
It can come in the weirdest of ways
And disappear so easily
The second i even glimpse my parents it leaves
But if someone calls me an affectionate nickname like "possum" or "angel" or just anything that you would protect
Safety is a human right
So why is it so hard to obtain?
My parents do not hit me
Neither do they hit my siblings
But they yell at me
They say things that make me fear my life
Before I was diagnosed with depression my mother would talk about how her friends mother was depressed and therefore was a horrible person
So I could never juts bring up how I felt
I'm a bisexual child living in a home that thinks gay people shouldn't exist
I'm genderfuild
Being called Gray gives me a feeling of safety that being called "Eva" rips away in a second
I wish people could just understand that who I am is not just who I chose to be it's who I need to be
I need a hand to hold to guide me through my last years of innocence
Most people have their parents, right?
But i dont
I don't even have an aunt or an uncle not a cousin who could care
My brother beats me up sometimes
And my sisters never home
I cling onto teachers
For they are safe
They would never hit me
They would never yell
But Mr g
He ruined my last sense of safety.
He fucking raped me
He started off nice to me
So I begun to trust him he never yelled or hit me
He seemed to understand my pain
But it was all an act
Plain and simple
He touched me
I didn't want him to
I will never get over it
Only a few people know
And even they don't know it all
I try to block out the memories
But it's harder then it seems
I don't trust men
Men rape you
And yes I know women can too
But i have an experience with a man if you can even call him that
I need to have a safety teacher
It used to be Ms robins but she said things that made me lose trust in her
Then it was miss marshel but I think she hates me
Miss caufield makes me feel safe but I think she just pittys me
I hate being pittied
It means they don't really care they just don't want to be the reason you died
Ms kristel pitties me. I know she does. She doesn't do it in a way that she feels sorry for me she pitties me in a way that she just doesn't want me around because I ruin her mood and I understand that and if that's it she should just tell me and I'll move classes.
I just need a reason to stay alive
I thought that would be my dog.
I thought he would be my reason
And he was.
But now he doesn't care anymore
He'd be fine without me.
I just need a reason
Just a single reason
A person an animal anything
I just need anything.
This isn't exactly a poem
But it's more of a vent
I need to put this out there so it isn't just in my head

1000 Days Of You - Part 15
Authors Note: Children, look away, this is not for you.
Part 14
CHAPTER 31 - SHAPE OF YOU
“I missed you” He whispered as he deepened his kiss and held her firmly against him.
“I can see that” She flirted, not breaking the kiss and grinding softly against his bulge.
His lips trailed down her neck slowly, softly, relishing the taste of her as his fingers untied her bikini top.
“You gonna answer that?” Her breathless voice beckoned as her fingers grazed his bareback.
“Answer what?” He asked, as if in a daze. “Your phone. . .” “My phone?” He could barely let the words out as he removed her top.
“Its been ringing”
“mmmm” he hummed and expertly moved her onto her back.
She giggled as he cautiously climbed on top of her, careful not to fall off the sun-bathing chair by the pool. It was a good thing they had the whole beach house to themselves; they had been there for ten days now and he still couldn’t keep his hands off her. It was by far the best vacation he had ever had.
A throaty groan replaced her laughter as he took her nipple in his mouth.
“You know I’m not going to get any sun with you on top of me all the time” she teased him.
He smiled as he kissed between her breasts. “I’m much more fun” he said taking her bikini bottom off.
He smiled and took her lips in his as she haphazardly slid his shorts off. She moaned softly into his mouth as he began teasing her opening with his member. His breath staggered as he felt how wet she was.
“Stefan” she whispered as she thrust forward suggestively. He pulled up and traced her hip with his hand, slowly sliding it closer to her center.
“Tease” she complained. His smile grew wider as he slowly traced her slit with his finger. His dick throbbed to be in her, but he loved the sight of her impatient and fully aroused.
“Rude” she pouted. He lunged forward and devoured her mouth at that; his hands clutching at her hair; settling himself between her legs. She rocked herself against his dick, making him moan this time.
He entered her and watched as she closed her eyes. This sight alone could get him aroused in a second. Everything about her was sexy to him but nothing could top that of her enjoying the feel of him inside her. It was his nirvana to see her in this state.
Her gasps and groans grew louder as he rocked harder against her. His breath staggered as he watched her beasts heave as she met his thrust with equal fervor. He felt her fingernails dig into his flesh as her channel began to convulse. He picked up the pace knowing fully well he wouldn’t last much longer. He buried his face in the nape of her neck as he came inside her. He kissed her neck gently as he rode out their orgasm.
“We should extend our trip” he said wistfully as he pulled out and lay on top of her.
“hmmmm.. Well you could stay.. I’ll sext you” she joked.
He pinched her ass lovingly.
“I really did miss you” He said nuzzling her nose.
“I know.. I missed you too”
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
“What’s the emergency?” he spoke into the phone.
“No emergency” Damon replied casually.
“I had like 3 missed calls from you” Stefan said taking a bite of his sandwich.
“I just wanted to know if you were still at the beach house” Damon said.
“Yeah. Still here” he said with his mouth full.
“So are you opposed to having Elena and I there or?”
“Yes very much opposed.” He replied without missing a beat. “As opposed as opposed can be” he said before going in for another bite.
“Fine. When are you guys going back?”
“Saturday” Stefan replied.
“You know if you leave Friday morning then-“
“No.” Stefan cut him off.
“Fine be difficult.”
“I’m not being difficult. You’re being a dick”
“Whatever. You’re staying clear of my room right?” Damon enquired.
“Which one is your room?”
“The one on the extreme right”
Too late..
“Uhuh” he said as his mind brought up racy pictures of Caroline naked and on top of him.
“Stefan” Damon warned him.
“Relax your bedroom is safe!” He said making a mental note to not go in there again.
“Well in that case-”
“Kay bye” he said hanging up.
“The bedroom on the far right?” he said turning to Caroline.
“What about it?” Caroline asked as she grabbed a bottle of wine.
“We never went in there.”
“oh.. so we never..” she started. He could tell she was picturing their time in there.
“Nope ! We didn’t go in there and we didn’t do anything in there” he stated.
“Pretty sure the handcuffs on the bed that say otherwise.” Caroline said casually pouring herself a hearty helping of wine.
Stefan got up from his seat.
“Where are you going?”
“To move the evidence” he hollered back.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
You know maybe we should head back Friday morning.” Caroline suggested as they snuggled.
“Why?”
“Well Damon wants the house for the weekend for one thing”
“Don’t worry about Damon. “ He said wrapping his arms around her tighter.
She sighed.
“What’s wrong”, he asked gently.
“Monday… I start work on Monday.”
“Nervous?”
“mmhhmm”
“You’ll do great” he said propping himself up by the elbow and smiling at her lovingly.
“I sure hope so.. the only other offer I have right now is in Virginia. I turned the rest down when I got this job.”
“You had a job offer in Virginia?” He asked pointedly.
“Yeah Bonnie’s mom’s contact offered it to me. I said no.. but it was always there as a backup”
“I’m glad you said no” he said lacing his fingers through hers.
“Me too” she smiled.
“You know I love you right?” he said moving closer to her.
“Yeah.. and I love you too” she said raising her head up and kissing him softly.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
It felt as if he was in a police car with the sirens blazing.
“Stefan” he heard her faint voice. The siren was drowning it out almost.
“Stefan” she shook him a little this time. That was when he realized he was lying down… on a bed.. a very comfortable bed.. with Caroline in his arms.. but why were there police sirens?
“Your phones ringing” she informed a very disoriented Stefan.
“wha?” he said opening his eyes and searching the bed for the damn thing.
Kristelle the phone said.
“Make it stop” Caroline pleaded.
“YOU CHANGED MY RING TONE?” he yelled into the phone.
“Just for my number” kristelle said in a matter of fact tone.
“You’re the bane of my existence you know that?” he said thoroughly irritated.
“Why so dramatic?” He could practically hear smile cheekily in amusement.
“I’m hanging up”
“WAIT” Kristelle yelled.
“What?”
“Do you have season 2 game of thrones”
“Yes”
“Where?”
“I donno.. with the rest of the dvds I guess.”
“Great bye”
He switched his phone off and turned to face Caroline who seemed still groggy.
“Everything okay?” she asked.
“mmhmm” he said as she moved back into his arms.
“What time is it?”
“Near noon”
“hmmmm we should probably get up”
He kissed her softly on her head. “In a bit” he said lazily.
They would leave the next day and he would miss living with her. Sure they would practically be living with each other. She would either be with him in his apartment or he would sleep at hers. But he didn’t want to technically be living in a different apartment. He wanted to live with his girlfriend, not just sleep with her on the same bed.
. . . . . . . . .
“Caroline?” he beckoned her attention as she dug into her breakfast.
“hmmm”
“I was thinking..”
She looked at him in anticipation.
“well I was.. hoping..”
He looked away and scratched the back of his head.
“What is it?” she coaxed him to speak his mind.
“I want you to move in with me” he said and looked to her for a reaction.
“As in move in with you move in with you…”
“mmhmmm” He hummed nervously.
“We just got back together two weeks ago..”
“Yeah I know..
“Maybe we should give it more time and not jump into anything..” She said cautiously.
“I think we’re ready for this. Well, I’ve been ready for this for a while.. “ he said moving his cereal around in his bowl.
“You wanted us to live together before we broke up?” she asked.
“mmhmm”
“What if we were living together when we broke up .. things would have gotten so much more complicated..” She said sounding worried.
“I know.. but things are different now.. look.. you don’t have to decide anything now..” he said softly. “Just promise me that you’ll consider it..”
“Okay” she nodded with a soft smile.
. . . . . . . . . . . .
“How was the beach house?” Kristelle asked excitedly as she jumped in between Stefan and Caroline on the couch, much to Stefan’s annoyance.
“It was so great ! I miss it already!” Caroline sighed.
“We can go back there anytime.. its not going anywhere. ” Stefan told her.
“My new boss is a real slave driver..” Caroline sulked. “I don’t think I’ll be going anywhere for a while..”
“I’m sure she’s not that bad..” Stefan said gently.
“No its true, Katie’s cousin’s friend’s sister worked for her and like had two nervous breakdowns in her first month!”Kristelle said munching on her chips.
“That’s… comforting…” Caroline said he eyes widening slightly in terror.
Stefan leaned forward towards Caroline. “Keep in mind that this is Kris and she exaggerates” Stefan said in a very serious tone.
“Excuse you. I tell it like it is” kirstelle said as she continued to munch. “And its KrisTELLE” she said annoyed.
“Well KrisTELLE once got everyone worked up by saying she had cancer.” Stefan said looking at his cousin with an accusatory glance.
“THERE WAS A MOLE THAT LOOKED VERY SUSPECT”
“it was a pimple” Stefan said gritting his teeth.
“I was TWELVE !”
“WAS?”
“Okay you guys I need to.. uuhh. .. ..I’m just gonna go… I’m tired”, Caroline said walking into her room and closing the door.
“You’re really bad at this boyfriend thing aren’t you?” Kristelle commented.
“shut up” Stefan said walking to Caroline’s room.
“Hey” he said closing the door behind him.
“Hey” came the miserable voice from under the covers.
“Wanna talk about it?” He asked getting under the covers and stroking her cheek.
“What if I totally suck at this?”
“What if you don’t?”
“what if I DO?”
“Well then, you’ll know this is not for you and you can figure out what you want.” He said honestly. “its win –win if you as me”
She looked thoughtful.
“We’ll figure it out” He said lovingly.
She placed her head on his chest as he enveloped her.
“You’re not moving to Virginia either ways” he said feeling slightly insecure. “Right?”
“Right” She said tilting her face to kiss him.
“Late night?” Caroline asked Kristelle who had just emerged from her bedroom, still yawning.
“I’m readjusting my sleeping habits to my future routine” She said casually as she headed to the kitchen.
“What future routine?” Stefan asked Caroline lazily. He figured she’d know.
“I don’t know..” Caroline said looking utterly confused.
“Telle! What future routine?” She asked her.
“Please don’t say drug pedaling” Stefan whispered. Caroline whacked his hand at that.
“I got a job as a bartender, duh! Didn’t I tell you guys?”
“No I’m pretty sure I would have remembered if you had” Caroline replied.
“Why would anyone hire you as a bartender?” Stefan blurted out, promptly receiving a sharp slap on the wrist from Caroline for it. “Hey!” He began to protest, clutching his wrist like a wounded child but decided to not continue at first sight of her stern expression.
“It was a valid question” He whined trying to justify himself and failing.
Her expression didn’t soften.
“Jay” Kristelle said sitting herself on the vacant seat beside Caroline; coffee in hand.
“What about Jay?” Caroline asked.
“Jay hired me!”
“Awww that’s nice-”
“Why?” Stefan cut Caroline off.
“Well he was looking-“ Kristelle started.
“Why Jay’s? Jays is our place. Of all the places why our place?” Stefan asked sounding like a petulant child.
Caroline sighed.
“Newsflash! Not everything is about you!.” She said getting up. “Thanks for the undying support though!” She said sarcastically and walked away.
He didn’t dare to meet Caroline’s eyes and chose to look straight ahead.
“You’re mad aren’t you?” He asked.
“I’m gonna go check on Telle” Caroline said getting up.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . .
He walked in and placed the pizza boxes on the kitchen counter where the girls were seated.
“Peace offering, in case you were wondering” Stefan said meekly
“Peace offering?” Kristelle sulked.
“I am sorry I wasn’t supportive. .. okay?”
Kristelle continued to stare at him with a blank expression.
“You’re really going to milk this aren’t you?”
She grabbed her box of pizza and headed to her room.
“I tried” He contended as he heard her slam the door shut.
“She’ll come around” Caroline coaxed him as she grabbed a slice.
“So what do you wanna do after dinner?” Stefan asked.
“Umm I was thinking of turning in”
“Its seven-thirty”
“I know. I just have some things to do before I go to sleep..”
“Things to do?” He asked bewildered.
“Like pick out the right outfit. “
“Caroli-“
“You can’t rush it Stefan!” She snapped.
“Sorry”
“No that was me not you… I’m just really nervous”
“Okay.. you go do your neurotic ritual after dinner and lemme know if you need help with.. . whatever”
She smiled at him gratefully.
.. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
“Stefan?” He heard her call out to him from what sounded like his living room.
“In here” he yelled.
“Why are you here and why is your room cleared out?” She asked climbing under the covers next to him.
“This is sort of my room now” He informed her, eyes still closed.
“Since when?” She asked.
“Since we broke up and my old room had too many memories of us?” He said softly. They were back together but it still hurt him to think about the time he spent without her.
He opened his eyes to see her look at him woefully.
“Come here” He said as he snuggled close to her, wrapping her tightly in his arms and closed his eyes.
“Stefan?”
“hmmmmm” he hummed eyes still shut.
“Well we’re back together.. why aren’t you back in your old room?”
“I’ll go back there when it’s our room” He said kissing the top of her head. “What time is it anyway?”
“Its past midnight” She said.
“What?” He asked slightly panicked. “Why aren’t you asleep?”
“Can’t sleep” She said pouting.
“Missed me huh?” He teased.
She stuck her tongue out at him peevishly; he tried catching it with his mouth, failing miserably to her delight. His lips found her laughter and before he knew it, he was on top of her, kissing her hungrily as she wrapped her legs around his waist.
“Move in with me” He said as he broke the kiss. “I don’t want us living apart.”
She bit her lower lip in contemplation of his question.
He could tell from her countenance that she wanted to cave.
“I’ll let you move your stuff into the room and move my clothes in later.. you can take as much space as you want. I’ll clear my desk and you can keep your pictures.. or if you wanna just move out and get a whole new place I’m open to that too…”
She snorted out a laugh.
“What’s so funny?”
“We are not moving into another place.”
“We could. If you cant see yourself living here, in this apartment.”
“I love this place. Its so you and I love you.” She said snuggling cozily.
“So you can picture yourself living here?” He tried his luck again.
“You really wanna do this huh?” She asked
“You have no idea..”
He smiled and leaned in and kissed her again. He meant it to be a short, soft kiss, but he couldn’t pull away.
“I’ve never lived with a boy friend before” She said as they finally broke the kiss.
“I wont bite, well, maybe a little” He said nibbling her earlobe as she let out another intoxicating giggle.
“I’ll try and remember that…” She said. He recognized her tone. She was nervous but didn’t want to to show it.
“Hey… “He nuzzled the tip of her nose. “What is it?” He asked gently.
“You’ve done this before haven’t you.. the living with a girl friend thing..”
“Yeah I have..”
“But it didn’t work out before..” she stated.
“No it didn’t..”
“So how are you so ready to try it out again.. I mean.. it’s a big step… and we did just break up a short while ago”
“Well its different with us… when I decided to move in with Elena it was about timing and not about what I was feeling”
He saw her forehead crease in concentration as she took his words in,
“We had been together a while and it was time to step it up so I did… but with us… it just feels so right to be with you that I don’t want to wait for the appropriate time to start my life with you.. hell if I had just been honest with myself we’d have gotten together much sooner than we did.. . I don’t wanna make the same mistake and waste more time.
She lunged forward to kiss him.
“I’ll think about it” She said finally closing the topic for the night. It’s all he could as for really. He knew it maybe too soon for her considering they had just gotten back together so recently.
“And while you think about it, remember that you would get five to ten more minutes of sleep cause all your stuff would be right here and you wouldn’t have to walk across the hall to the next apartment and make small talk with Telle before you get to your room to shower and change.”
“Point taken “ She said beaming and looking thoroughly amused.
“I guess I should get back” She sighed.
“huh?”
“Wouldn’t wanna defile the sanctity of this virgin room,” She teased.
He tickled her in response.
“Hey you’re the one who wanted to be in a room with no memories of us!!” She reminded him.
“How about I take your mind off tomorrow instead? ” He said kissing the nape of her neck. “It might just help you sleep..”
“Hmmm.. I doubt that’s even possible at this point… I’m a lost cause”
“We’ll see about that” He said moving his lips up the side of her neck.
“Stefan?”
“Hmmmm” He hummed as kissed her shoulder.
“You’ll wake me right? I didn’t get my phone..”
“You worry way too much you know that” He said pulling her shorts down.
“Nooo I worry just the right amount… worry isn’t always a bad thing you know.. like if -“ He drowned the rest of her words in his kisses.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
“Caroline?” He stroked her hair gently. “Its 6..”
“Ughh” She sighed unhappily as she stirred awake.
“Sleep well?” He asked as she opened her eyes reluctantly.
“Yes” She smiled softly. He kissed the top of her head.
“Gotta run” She quickly throwing her clothes on. He spotted his t-shirt and began to slowly put it on.
“What? No good morning kiss?” He teased.
“Morning” She said leaping back in bed to give him a quick kiss. She then darted out of the room before he could say anything.
Where the hell were his shorts?
“What about coffee?” He called out after her as he looked for his shorts in vain.
“I’ll make you a cup,” She yelled as she opened the apartment.
“Caroline!” He called out to her again. “My shorts?”
“Floor- other side of the bed.” She yelled and shut the apartment door behind her.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . .
“You’re still here?” Kristelle asked as she groggily emerged from her room. “Its like noon! Don’t you have work?”
“I am working” Stefan said pointing to his laptop. “Coffee?” He asked sweetly.
“Yeah that would be nice” Kristelle said cautiously.
“What?”
“Why are you being all,” Kristelle made a vague hand gesture.
“All what?”
“Why are you in my apartment making coffee in the middle of the day?”
“Well I was hoping we could talk” He said handing her a mug of coffee.
“About?”
“Well you. This job” He said
“Its not a dirty word Stefan”
“You are a highly qualified woman. Why are you working as a bartender?”
“You wouldn’t get it”
“Try me. Look if you want something temporary, you can always come work with-“
“Stop!” Kristelle said cutting him off. “Do not finish that sentence”
Stefan rolled his eyes are her dramatics. “Telle”
“I don’t want to work for you or any of my Chicago contacts and yes this is a scary step for me and I might just chicken out and take your offer and I don’t want to do that okay?”
“Okay fine, I can make a few calls”
“NO”, she flat out rejected the idea.
“I don’t get it. Wouldn’t it be better for your career if you worked in an actual office?”
“That would depend on my career choice.”
“Hardly”
“What if I wanted to be a mime? How would working at an office help me?”
“A mime?” Stefan asked rolling his eyes. “A mime would mean you shutting up, you know that right?”
“Hypothetically”
“There is no universe, hypothetical or real where you would shut up long enough to succeed as a mime”
“Fine, wrong example. But the point is”
“You’re coming to work with me.” Stefan asserted.
“No I’m not”
“Kristelle, listen to me. Its hard out there and you’re not doing yourself any favors by whiling away your time as a barkeep. You studied business. Let me help you”
“Well Jay runs a business”
“That’s just a technicality.” Stefan said seriously.
“That’s good enough.”
“Is it?”
“I don’t want to just go with the flow and start a career I don’t like and then be forced to just stick with it because Ive put in the time and the energy and it would be be stupid to abandon it.”
“Why cant you figure out what you want in my office building rather than Jay’s? I don’t get it.” Stefan asked exasperatedly.
“of course you don’t. You always knew what you wanted to do. It was always about joining your dad and when you did it fit like a glove. You’ve never really felt conflicted about work. The time you stopped working wasn’t because you didn’t like the job, it was because you and your dad were on the outs. But its different for me. If I go into an office environment like you said, I’d start off thinking its temporary but eventually its going to get comfortable and I’m not going to look anywhere else and I’ll just build a whole career there”
“Would that be such a bad thing?” He asked earnestly.
“Yes it would. Because I’d be doing it not because it’s what I really want to do in life, but because its easy.”
“So you’re going to?”
“Work at Jay’s for now and figure out what I want”
“Fine. But you know, if-“
“I know. Thank you”
“You’re welcome” He said sincerely.
He didn’t entirely grasp why she needed to slum it out when she really didn’t have to. But then his cousin always did things a little differently than he did. And for what it was worth, she had so far made better life choices than he had. She had earned the benefit of the doubt. Well, at least from him.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . .
He entered the bar expecting for a low turnout. He was wrong.
“Hey” He called out to Kristelle who looked flustered. He sat down at his usual bar stool.
“Hey, what are you doing here?” Kristelle asked looking worried, “You shouldn’t be here…”
“Relax, im not drinking. I’m just here to support you on your first day”
“So you’re here at the bar, not drinking, and taking up space that an otherwise heavy drinker would have” Kristelle asked him with a poker face.
“I’m a heavy tipper?” Stefan smiled.
“Fine! What will you have? Nachos?”
“Yup and a-“
“Soda?” She cut him off hurriedly.
“Sure.”
“Caroline coming?”
“Umm.. she said she’d try”
“How did her first day go?” She asked.
“Umm… I’m not sure..”
“Yo, Kris, you wanna take some orders here?”
Kristelle grimaced at being called Kris. “Sure” She said and walked away from Stefan.
He shook his head.
“Why are you shaking your head in disdain?” He heard Caroline ask him dramatically. He spun around to see her smiling at him.
“Hey” He said kissing her warmly.
“Hey yourself, this seat taken?” She flirted.
“What do you think?” He said taking her lips in his again. “So how was your day? I haven’t been able to get a hold of you” He asked breaking the kiss.
She sighed, “Lets just say, this, is the best part of my day”
“Well duh!” Kristelle interrupted them, “you’re in a bar with me ! Of course it’s the best part of your day!”
Caroline smiled.
“Beer?” Kristelle asked,
Caroline hesitated.
“Someone has to drink ok? I can’t let you sit here at the bar on a crowded night and not drink! Do you want me to keep my job or what?” Kristelle sounded tense.
“Sure. Beer” Caroline said quickly.
“Why is it so crowded on a Monday?” Caroline asked her.
“The bar down the street closed suddenly. Failed health inspection. So more customers and we are short staffed.” Kristelle said handing her the drink and quickly spinning away to take other orders.
“So, you wanna talk about-“
“You think she’s doing okay?” Caroline interrupted him. He searched for Kristelle behind the bar counter.
“She looks like she’s gonna pass out” Caroline said sounding worried.
She did look overwhelmed he realized. He sighed. Before he could respond Caroline got off her bar stool and headed towards Kristelle.
“Party of one it is” Stefan said to himself as he munched on his nachos.
He watched as Caroline took control of the situation. He couldn’t help but smile proudly at how she jumped to help her friend after going through what sounded like a hard day of work. She really was the best thing to happen to him. He felt his heart flutter at the thought that she was his. He remembered sitting right at that very spot and saying goodbye to her and thinking she would move on with her life and forget all about him. That he and her were a dream that would never be. He took a sip of his soda. He wasn’t one to believe in miracles, but Caroline Forbes falling in love with him? He didn’t know what else to call it.
Caroline finally gave up her post behind the bar and took up her abandoned seat beside him.
“Easy there tiger” Stefan said light heatedly as she took a rather large gulp.
She smiled.
He passed her, her favorite bar food. Conversation was not what she needed right now he realized. So he sat there as she gobbled down her food and gulped down her drink. Looked like she hadn’t eaten much during the day. He resisted the urge to push her again to talk about her day.
“Thank you thank you thank you” Kristelle came up to Caroline smiling from ear to ear. “I dunno what I would have done without you”
“Its no problem”, Caroline said warmly.
Kristelle sighed nervously.
“It’ll get easier”, Caroline reassured her.
“Yeah?”
“There’s a learning curve, but you’ll get the hang of it. I promise”
Kristelle nodded. “You guys staying or?”
Stefan looked to Caroline.
“Umm.. actually, I have an early day tomorrow, so”
“Okay, I’ll get the check”
. . . . . . . . . .. . . . .
“So, cab?” He asked. She looked dead on her feet and it sounded like she needed home and to bed sooner rather than later.
“Yeah.” She sounded disappointed.
“We’ll walk next time” He nudged her and proceeded to call for a cab.
“What’s wrong” He asked as they entered the cab.
“What if too much is changing?”
“Its one cab ride. No big deal.” Stefan reassured her. He knew change was hard for Caroline.
She placed her head on his shoulder and snuggled up to him. He heard her yawn right before she dozed off.
“How was your day?” She asked groggily getting into the elevator with him.
“Stayed back to try and convince Kristelle to come work with me”
Caroline snorted.
He chuckled and shook his head.
“She’ll be okay”
“Yeah?”
“She needs to do her thing. She’s better off going her own way rather than following the trodden path.”
“hmmmm”
“It’s who she is”
Stefan smiled.
“You’ll be okay too” He said as she unlocked her door.
“Yeah?” she asked as she opened the door.
“It’ll get easier.” He said taking her by the waist, “There’s a learning curve, but you’ll get the hang of it”, He touched his forehead to hers, “I promise” He whispered.
She teared up.
He pulled her close and hugged her tight. He felt her hands tightening their hold around him. “I’ve had the worst day” She cried into his shoulders.
“I know” He whispered. “Ice-cream?”
“MMhhhmm”
“Come on” he said lifting her up and carrying her into the kitchen.
He woke to find that Caroline wasn’t in bed with him. Again. This was the fourth day in a row that this had happened. He checked the time. 6 AM. Maybe she was still in her apartment.
“Caroline?” He called out for her as he entered the apartment.
“Not here” Irene replied.
“Hey”, Stefan smiled.
“Hey”, she returned the friendly smile, “I thought she was at your place.”
“She was…until she wasn’t” He sulked.
Irene’s eyebrows shot up curiously.
“I keep missing her.” He shook his head and headed to get himself a cup of coffee.
“Wait, she’s at work? ALREADY? Its like 6 ”
Stefan shrugged.
“Wow the bitch legend of Julie Williamson lives on”
Stefan sighed. “Tell me this is just about work and not anything… personal”, He said as he sat down beside her.
“Why would it be anything personal? You guys just got back together.”
“I asked her to move in with me. Several times. I may have.. sounded.. needy”
“Needier than usual?” Irene joked into her cup.
Stefan scowled at her.
“Kidding, Kristelle isn’t here, I had to take a jab at you in her honor”, Irene chuckled.
“So you think it was too soon?” Irene asked seriously.
“Yes” He sighed almost in defeat. “I should have waited till she settled down at work”
Irene snorted.
Stefan looked at her inquisitively.
“Its Julie. She’s known to be… well… a slave driver and all round horrible person.“
“So you’re saying its not going to get any better?”
“I’m saying Caroline has her work cut out for her. This woman is big in the biz, but her work ethic is terrible. She overworks her employees and puts undue pressure on them. A friend of mine knew someone who worked with her briefly and apparently most people end up single because they just cant keep up with the demands of the job and maintain a relationship. Employee turnover is high too. There was this article once that mentioned her company and that it had on of the highest employee turnover rate in the industry.”
Stefan didn't respond. He furrowed his eyebrows and peered into his phone.
Stefan: At work already?
Caroline: Yup.
Stefan: We didn’t get a chance to talk last night. You doing okay?
Caroline: I’ll be fine. Learning curve. Right?
Stefan: Right!
Stefan: I love you. See you at home.
Caroline: Ditto
He stared at his phone grimly as he replayed Irene’s words. The last thing he needed was something to come between Caroline and him. But this job was important to her. Besides, she had landed it when they were broken up, so the question of balancing a relationship hadn’t occurred at the time.
Bad timing. They always had terrible timing.
“Well, I might as well catch up on some work”, he said reluctantly.
“Hey, if it makes you feel any better, both of our significant others are struggling with new jobs and terrible work hours. So, we’ll just rally together!” She said raising her coffee mug to him.
“Yay us” Stefan said drearily.
“Hey!” Caroline said walking in the door.
“Hey” He said abandoning his work-station and walking towards her.
“That smells amazing.” She smiled.
“Yeah, I figured you deserved a nice home cooked meal after the week you’ve had.” He said leaning in and kissing her softly. “And bonus, you get to pick what we watch.”
“So you’re not. . .mad?” she asked, her voice small; eyes tired.
“Why would I be mad?” He asked rubbing her arms instinctively.
She sighed and backed away from him. It took him by surprise. “Everything okay?” He asked.
“I know I haven’t exactly been… present.” She gulped as she ran her hand quickly down her face, “The past few weeks..”, It looked like she was searching for the right words.
“Have been grueling. I know.”
“Its not fair to you”
“That’s life, Caroline. You take the good with the bad. You are starting a new, very demanding career and its bound to get tough. I don’t expect us to be on vacation mode all the time.” Stefan said sincerely.
“Yeah, but this boss, Julie, she’s just.. exhausting.. and I’m worried that this job is going to consume all of my time and . . . You’re still earning your sober chips and I know what you need is a stable environment, probably why they ask you not to date for a year-“ She rambled only to stop abruptly. She took a deep breath. “I don’t want to make things harder for you”
“Ok firstly”, He said as he pulled her into his arms and kissed her passionately. She gasped as he pulled away. He loved it when he took her breath away.
“You’re by far the most stable influence I have in my life.” He assured her. “So the last thing you need to worry about is me, falling off the wagon, because of anything you did or didn’t do. That just not going to happen.”
Caroline let out a ragged breath.
“Is that all that’s worrying you”
“No.” She admitted.
“What is it?” he asked softly.
“You remember when we broke up.... you said.. you were not the nuts in my banana bread?”
“Yeah..” For a sentence that sounded so comical, she looked as serious as a heart attack. “I was hoping I was wrong about that” He said, his voice betraying the tiniest hint of insecurity.
“You were not wrong.” She said tearing up.
His heart suddenly felt so heavy it hurt. “What… umm..” He shook his head slightly trying to figure out what the hell was happening. Surely she wasn’t breaking up with him again. Was this the job talking? Did her boss get to her like she did countless others? She can’t possibly think she needed to end things with them to survive at her new job. Questions reeled. Questions he wasn’t sure he wanted the answers to.
He took a deep breath.
“Caroline-“
“You’re not just the nuts, you’re the whole damn thing, okay!” She said her voice cracking. His breath hitched. “You don’t just make life better Stefan, ” She said, her eyes borrowing into his soul, “You are the life I never imagined I’d live. I didn’t think a love like this existed and now… I am terrified that I’ll ruin things and this time there won't be any coming back from it.”
“Hey no!” Stefan said cupping her face with both his hands.
“This job was supposed to keep my mind off you. We were broken up and Julie bitch Williamson seemed like the perfect fit. It was going to keep me so busy that I wouldn’t have the time to think about anything else”
He stroked her cheeks lovingly as she continued.
“But we are back together and..” she shook her head, “Please don’t let me ruin this”
“No that’s my job,” He chuckled.
She didn’t even crack a smile.
“Look, I'm not worried about us. I know we are going to make this work. I don’t want you to feel any pressure at all when it comes to our relationship. You’ll have enough pressure to deal with at work. This, us, we are not going anywhere… we will … adapt. I promise.” He said confidently.
She smiled softly. “Not worried huh?”
“Not even a little bit”
She pushed herself up on her tip-toes and kissed him at that.
“So what are we going for tonight? Classic? Recent chick flick?” He asked trying to cheer her up.
“How about just watching back to back episodes of the Tonight Show or Ellen?”
“Tonight Show it is” Stefan said grabbing the remote.
. . . . . .
“Stefan?” He heard her murmur. “You asleep?”
He responded with a kiss on her forehead.
“I was thinking” She continued, her head resting on his chest.
“Hmmmm”
“Lets do it”
“Round two it is” He said kissing her as he maneuvered her onto her back. She giggled.
“I meant, lets live together” She smiled.
“Are you sure?” He asked moving to the side.
She moved closer and kissed him as she climbed on top of him. “I’m sure” she said trying to tame her golden locks.
“We can wait. I don’t want you to feel rushed.”
“You’re not rushing me. I want this.”
He sighed dramatically. “I guess our time in this bedroom is drawing to a close, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank this pillow-“
“Shut up!” She giggled as she kissed him hungrily.
He sat up and held her close as he deepened the kiss. “Virgin room demands round two” He said solemnly. She giggled, as her hands searched for his boxers.

Tallinn Music Week: a love letter to Estonia
There’s a sort of fascinating melancholy in travelling East — and everyone knows jet lag always hits harder when you head in that direction too. A constant anxious wreck by default (a trait that doesn't necessarily combine well with an unexplainable need for constantly being on the move), I experienced this firsthand last month as I was given the opportunity to go to Estonia for Tallinn Music Week - the annual music and culture event that should be mandatory for everyone at least once in their lifetime.
Where do you even begin to write about the beauty that is Estonia? A country whose imagery hasn’t been spoiled by media overexposure and Pop culture saturation. A country mixing the old and the new, inevitably emanating a sort of patchwork quality both in its lifestyle and through the relationship it has with its own identity. A country where over-advertising is noticeably absent, as is agressive stimuli bombarding and visual pollution. A country where it sometimes becomes hard to tell the year you’re living in — maybe even the century.
It is indeed one of life's greatest privileges to visit a place which you have little to no references of: you are aware it exists and where, know about its Soviet occupation past, but not much info has been provided through media. So it becomes an exciting discovery, your mind a blank canvas waiting to be painted with the real colours — not the ones you have mistakenly absorbed through movies. You force yourself to open your eyes and see, as no previous meta-formed idea has conditioned you to look in any particular way.
Travelling to such a place can be both a soothing and a disturbing factor. But there is no agression. There is no over-sweetening of the pill either. Everything about Estonia is so brutally honest, which in a world of constant make-believe and increasingly shallow first (and second, and third) impressions can feel like the Holy Grail.
Well tucked between Scandinavia and Russia, Estonia musically drinks from the best of both worlds after emerging from oppression in the early '90s: from its proximity to Finland and Sweden come the same unexplainably addictive Pop genes that North area seems to have incorporated in their blood; from the East emerges a certain anti-Imperialist pride that endures to this very day, preventing their music from relying too much on Anglo-American standardisation which could ruin its spontaneity and unique character. But what else would you expect from a country whose independence was brought about by a Singing Revolution if not a visceral connection to the overwhelming power that is music?
Tallinn Music Week is one of Europe’s most carefully curated showcase festivals, offering a unique opportunity to catch the acts you’d probably never see otherwise since yes, internet is democratically(-ish) liberating when it comes to music finding, but it also castrates your curiosity by offering you unlimited content you often have no idea how to deal with. So it comes as no surprise that the only "Western" acts I actually got to see were meticulously selected — and also felt immensely out of place.
YASMYN by Patrik Tamm
A late arrival due to Mercury retrograde-ridden flight cancellations dictated YASMYN to be the first act I saw. Not only her stage presence is hypnotising, but the blend of R&B, pop, and hip-hop she incorporates in her music make for an exciting business card in what comes to the future of Estonian contemporary Urban.
A sucker for record sleeve design, I kicked off day two at Malcolm Garrett's talk with John Rudd during which he discussed his career with an obvious focus on his connections to Duran Duran and Buzzcocks. I also learned he was never impressed with Joy Division; in his opinion, and having seen them since they called themselves Warsaw, it was Martin Hannett who did a spectacular job with Unknown Pleasures — eventually forcing the band to up their game in order to play like the record live. Speaking of records and sleeves: a mandatory stop at the record fair felt like an Iron Curtain-ish cultural melting pot. As I browsed through tons of amazing Melodiya pressings of the likes of the Byrds, Bon Jovi, and ABBA, I also found the first (and only) Russian pressing of a Revolver + Sgt Pepper double LP to feast my eyes upon. I didn't buy anything though; everybody knows music journalists are poor.
Among the first acts I actually got to see from my preview list were Sybil Vane, who together with Erki Pärnoja, provided yet another proof of the exciting diversity that is Estonian music. Pärnoja creates mystical filmic environments through his music and is currently working on the successor to his 2017 sophomore album Efterglow. I then headed over to Swedish duo GHLOW's set at Sveta, where an outside hut provided a very welcoming lounge area, the discreet smell of Estonian weed emerging from times to times to bring about an uncannily familiar ambience.
GHLOW by Ken Mürk
As day three peaked through the window my body was beginning to complain about the amount of hours I was sleeping each night and the ones I was spending standing on my feet — the former obviously largely surpassing the latter. But a couple of glasses of white wine in an empty stomach at sundown made wonders to the part of my brain that rules tiredness and physical pain, and Iceland-via-Berlin Rokky did the rest, making sure I was properly warmed-up for what was probably the only UK act I ended up seeing: Red Telephone. I, unfortunately, had to cut their set short to run to Trees before doing the wise thing and actually having dinner. A short stop at the Folk stage afterwards proved a wonderfully weird cultural gap as Catlin Mägi made sure she put a mesmerising spell on the whole room with her skilful Jew's harp playing.
Finnish garage psychers Teemu & the Deathblows were another band from my to-see selection that did not disappoint in any way — I actually felt their set was too short, which is always a good sign. Plus, they got my blood properly immune to the harsh Baltic winds so I could sweat everything out at SADO OPERA's brilliant show. I danced like I hadn't danced in a very long time, and it actually came in handy that the venue, Erinevate Tubade Klubi, requested that all guests took their shoes off and put some slippers on instead. Fuck the slippers though; dancing barefoot is one of the best, most liberating sensations in the whole world.
SADO OPERA by Kristelle Ahone
I thought this was the end of the festival for me, but I was subsequently dragged first to the metal stage to see a Finnish band called Cumbeast (yes) and then back to the Estonian Academy of Arts for a set of Irish electronic duo Lakker. I never say no to good new experiences and the night seemed to go on forever, properly fueled by good Irish whisky and lack of sleep euphoria. The last stop was an afterparty at Sveta where the DJ was playing Shocking Blue's 'Love Buzz' as I arrived; I pride myself of being a lady who can hold her liquor, but I got emotional and almost cried.
When I was a little girl, I used to watch loads of Eastern European fantasy films. One of them, a Czech fairy tale called Princess Jasnenka and the Flying Shoemaker, stayed with me the longest: I would revisit it from time to time, fascinated by those aerial plans showing towers, castles, dungeons, and seemingly impenetrable city walls. In spite of the obvious geographical differences, Tallinn did feel a bit like being inside one of those films; the first day I was wandering around the Old Town looking for St. Catherine's Passage when I noticed a semi-hidden entry in the medieval wall. I got in and climbed upstairs, eventually finding my way to the tower through what felt like endless steep stairs carved in the stone. As I was alone in a round room with windows overlooking the city, I remembered when the king locked princess Jasnenka in the tower to try and prevent the witches' curse of her marrying a shoemaker; but the shoemaker made himself a pair of wings in leather, flew to the princess's room, and they fell in love.
You can never escape your own destiny, especially since it's you, either conscious or subconsciously, who gets to decide when and how to fulfil it. That's when I realised all roads had recently been leading me to Tallinn, and I mutely thanked the universe that it was so.

Quote
Love her. Love her at 6pm when she’s all dreamy and lovable. Love her at 3am when she’s all scared and crying. Love her. Hug her when she’s feeling low even when she pushes you away she just want to have you more closer. Kiss her nose while making her coffee with only two sugars how she likes it and tell her it reminds you of her beautiful and mysterious eyes. Read to her when she’s sleepy and tell her she’s the kind of girl authors write books about. Listen to the words she doesn’t say and hear every whisper of her. Grab her hands when she’s shaking because God that’s when she needs you the most. Let her cry, let her scream, let her break things, let her feel the lowest and then hug her, hug her and let her cry on your shoulder. Show her that you care, show her that you love her even when she’s mad, even when she’s down, even when she’s high. Kiss her slow while she kisses you with hunger, let her take you, let her push you on the couch, let her loose her breath while kissing you. When she says she doesn’t love you, tell her that you love her even more harder. And love her, oh how much she needs your love. Don’t try to figure her out, just be there and love her.

9 May 2017
I graduated from SP exactly a year ago and over the course of the year, many things happened, people came and left (as usual) but here’s to those who’ve played such a significant role in my life over the past year whether consciously or not but thank you simply for being you because you’ve helped me grow into someone I can honestly be proud of today. To:
My Roomie Thank you for the constant food deliveries because you’re scared I’ll forget to eat so I always wake up to breakfast on my table, & for the drinks that never fail to appear on Thursday mornings because you know I weak af & deffoz drank too much the night before. Thank you for the constant bitch-seshs that keep me sane during the school term because I’m honestly so done with school I swear I would drop out if I could (but then again so would you lmao).
Dino Club We rarely meet because we’re all in different schools/courses/countries with vv different school timetables we meet like once every few months (ok usually for birthdays) but thank you for being a constant source of support because I mean since we’re dying in Uni we might as well die tgt right? But thank you for always assuring me that I’m so much more than what I think I am, and deserve so much more than what I think I do. Thank you for always accepting me as I am & loving me exactly the way I am.
Rabz Kids Y’all always provide the best 356s in CQ & for that, thank you for being my unorthodox Uni friends but “we work hard & we play hard” & I swear we’re all gonna make it outta Uni alive. Thank you for being the bunch of friends that show me that Uni isn't just all about the grades & always reminding me to throw myself into the various school activities because that’s what Uni is all about - the holistic education & experience.
P.Oak I met y’all during hall FOC & tbh, I was v nervous & reluctant to come cos I’m an awkward turtle & was super scared I wouldn’t be able to click with y’all or make any friends but I’m so glad I grew some balls & came for camp (although I left halfway cos I fell sick & in the few days I was around, could barely participate cos I was sick af) but thank you for being so inclusive, & for being the most genuine friends I could ever find. Thank you for all the insane shit we decide to do like playing basketball & frisbee till 4am in the dark & overnight MJ sessions like we’ve no cares in the world. Thank you for the 2am talks we have that goes beyond the surface & y’all honestly give amazing advice although we’re all of different ages. Thank you for constantly saving my drunk ass, evacuating your room when I end up falling asleep cos I’m just tired af & for constantly making sure I eat well, sleep well & have friends to accompany me especially since my roomie is barely around. Thank you for the constant wake up calls so I have a minuscule chance of making it to class even if it means y’all having to climb 4 stories & wait for me to get outta bed which takes a full 10min.
NTU Pool & Snooker I was reluctant to continue playing pool when I came to Uni but Leonard convinced me to & I’m honestly thankful that I did. Thank you for being some of the most concerned and genuine seniors I could ever ask for - from cooking & delivering it to me because I’m a loser & cannot cook, to walking from extension to my hall (& let’s just say i will never do that) because I’m hungry but rushing an assignment & macs didn't want to deliver to me, & for all your timely texts that assure me that I don’t have to go through everything alone.
Leonard, you’ve been there from the very start of my tertiary education & the friendship we share is unorthodox many cannot comprehend but thank you for fighting for this friendship. Thank you for the many times you convinced me to keep playing pool even when I was discouraged at my inabilities and ended up crying during training because I couldn't clear a drill, & for making the walk across campus because I was having a mental breakdown from trying to deal with school.
Kristel, for the friendship we share that no one believes we only met 6 months ago. Thank you for studying hard & playing even harder with me throughout the semester, for being that assuring voice when I doubt myself, & constantly making sure that I do exactly what is best for me when I feel that I’m not doing enough for the people around me.
& to my most recent friend/acquaintance, J, you brought some much laughter and smiles into my life when we met, but you were also the reason behind my broken heart, sleepless nights and the many days I spent, crying, wondering why I simply wasn't good enough. But nevertheless, thank you for coming into my life (& up till now, I don’t know if you’ve any intention of staying) because you taught me what it meant to let someone in emotionally, something I haven't done since my breakup in 2015. You showed me what it meant to allow yourself to be loved and to be vulnerable all over again and although you broke my heart, it gave me the chance to prove to myself exactly how strong I am. I’m mending this broken heart of mine & yes, there are days that I miss having you in my life the way you were when we met but for now, I’m healing and growing. But I’ll keep the promise I made from the very first day we met - that I’ll always be there for you no matter what & it’s a promise I intend to keep even if we do lose contact & I never see you again, should you need someone 5, 10 years down the road, drop me a text/call and I’ll be there.
So a big big shoutout to all the MVPs (there are so many more but it’s getting late & I’m tired) but THANK YOU! & year 1 over and out. HELLO SUMMER!!

As a requirement for the curriculum in the Bachelor of Science in Accountancy on Tomas Claudio Colleges, every fourth year student shall undergo accounting and auditing practice. He/she shall accomplish a 200-hour ‘on-the-job-training’ in the accommodating company assigned to him/her.
On-the-Job Training (OJT) means training in the public or private sector that is given to the student while he or she is engaged in productive work in return will provide knowledge and skills essential to the full and adequate performance on the job. This training offers the student an opportunity to apply the theoretical and computational learning from academe in actual work setting. After he/she diligently satisfied all the requirements and has completed all the activities relevant to the job given to him/her, a feedback report shall be submitted. The objective of this report is to express how the internship of a student goes on as well as his/her insights about the working environment regarding its internal control and any recommendation about the accommodating firm.
, Kristel Mae Zapanta De Vera, the author of this feedback report, had successfully completed the required working hours from January 9 to March 1, 2017. I had rendered my internship on ECS Accounting & General Services at 74 Rodriguez Ave., Brgy. May-iba, Teresa Rizal as an accounting clerk. I was under the administration of Ms. Erlinda C. San Esteban, the general manager of the firm and supervision of Mrs. Janice SE. Catindig, accounting supervisor. As an accounting clerk, I carried out activities that further enrich my accounting skills. The activities I executed in during the training are as follows:
Organizing office documents
Sorting disbursements and receipts
Journalizing and encoding certain transactions on MS excel
Vouching cash disbursement
Payment of the firm’s utilities
Familiarizing with the audited financial statements
Filling up Bureau of Internal Revenue Payment Form
Familiarizing on the eBIR Forms
Giving assistance to the client
Aside from these activities, I’ve learned a lot from this training. I have witnessed and got involved in the daily routine of an accounting firm wherein, the clients come and ask for consultation regarding their business and personal finances. Clients also come for submitting their cash receipts and disbursements to be encoded. I also witness the monthly remittance of taxes withheld on compensation and income taxes withheld (expanded) wherein Ms. Rebecca Joy Burgos, the accounting clerk together with Mrs. Catindig and Ms. San Esteban prepares the documents to be submitted to Bureau of Internal Revenue while Mrs. Rina SE. Francisco, the liaison officer, submits these to BIR for payment
Through these activities, I was able to assess the strengths and weaknesses of ESC Accounting and General Services in terms of their internal control. There are seven (7) areas of which my assessment of internal control is focused namely, segregation of duties, access controls, approvals, authorizations, and verifications, physical audits, documentation, reconciliations and review.
Since this accounting firm is composed only of three employees excluding the general manager, the firm should overcome the lack of segregation of duties. To lessen the risk of errors or inappropriate actions, sharing responsibilities between two or more people or requiring critical tasks to be reviewed by co-workers serves the same as the segregation of duties. Duties involve for review with co-employee and of course the general manager are bookkeeping, deposits, reporting and auditing.
For its access of control, all documents can only be seen by the employees having them files at the cabinet. For their soft copies of the files and documents, they have keep them on their desktops and laptops having no passwords. However, the only means of sending the files to each other desktops and laptop is via email so that sets their control for its confidentiality. In terms of their approvals, authorizations, and verifications, the general manager authorizes employees to perform certain tasks and to execute certain transactions within definite boundaries. In times the general manager is not around, the accounting supervisor takes charge about these but seek for the permission of the general manager before entering into any contract and client engagement approval.
Physical audits consist of hand-counting cash and any physical count of assets used in the business operation such as equipment and supplies. The firm assures that these assets are secured physically, counted periodically, and compared with item descriptions shown on the records. For its reconciliations, the firm ensure that balances in the accounting system match with the balances reflected by balance held by other entities such as, banks, suppliers and credit customers. They always approach their clients patiently and respectfully for any necessary documents regarding this reconciliation. Its documentation covers all the filing of the documents that is required which will serve as their evidence for audit and review. The said firm ensures that all the documents needed to support the financial statements as well as other reports are secured and properly arrange. Review of operations to ascertain whether results are consistent with established objectives and goals and whether the operations are performed as planned are being monitored by the said firm. With this, the firm is able to identify sudden results or unusual conditions that require follow-up.
To carry out all these internal control properly, the firm provides employees with appropriate training and guidance to ensure they all equip with knowledge and skill necessary to perform their job duties, are provided with an appropriate level of direction and supervision, and are aware of the proper channels for reporting suspected indecencies. To sustain the needs of their clients during busy season such as March and April during the filling of income tax return, the firm momentarily employs their past internship trainees to help them. Thus with this, I recommend that they should also have the list of the other students who have recently work on accounting firm in case their OJTs are not available. In addition, they must have the contact numbers of graduates of Accountancy in TCC in cases their clients ask for accounting staff of their company they can refer someone.
In general, the internal control and working environment of the said firm is good and very convenient to all the employees as well as it clients. The firm has able to get the client’s trust and loyalty and continue to get more customers. Employees also enjoy its company with each other having them feel like it’s family. With this, the job gets less harder than someone’s taught it is. The firm always meet the deadline and clients’ satisfaction rate is at high level.
Having my OJT done at ECS Accounting and General Services contributed to my professionalism as it exposes me to the accounting field. I have executed here the concept of confidentiality which I learned from school that all financial and non-financial data should not be disclosed with the third parties. I also experience to work with my co-employees, and my co-OJT classmate, Ms. Marfiel Dejarisco, assigned at this firm. This give me the opportunity to work harmoniously with them and fulfill the goals and objectives of the firm. This training is worth experiencing one.
