The urge to write unrequited renkaza. Renkaza where Akaza is desperately and deeply in love with Kyojuro but Kyojuro will Not and will never give him the time of day. Renkaza where Akaza will sacrifice everything for Kyojuro and switch sides and take his chances with the Corps just for the tiniest hope of being allowed to stay by Kyojuro’s side… and Kyojuro still sees him as nothing but a deplorable demon. Akaza can be useful to the Corps, he’s allowed to live, and Kyojuro is basically nothing but his “handler” because Akaza is obsessed with him and will listen to his every whim…. But to Kyojuro he’s nothing more than a tool he has the displeasure of wielding. i love that sanemi's colour is green, 'cuz usually you associate green with relaxing nature, and even the shade of green that represents him is so fresh and soothing! and yet he is one of the least relaxed characters i've ever come across in any series ever lol. it's great. love the dichotomy.

Something I love about Fruits Basket is that no character was left behind. Every character -from the Sohma family and Tohru to less significant characters like Motoko- had a role to play and had a satisfying conclusion to their stories.

There were several character relationships outside of the main 3 (Tohru, Yuki and Kyo) that were just as beautifully written. Some that stood out to me were Hatsuharu and Isuzu, Hatori and Kana, Yuki and Machi, Kazuma and Kyo, Ayame and Yuki, Hiro and Kisa, Uotani and Kureno, Hatsuharu and Yuki, Momiji and Tohru, Shigure, Ayame and Hatori, Tohru, Uotani and Hanajima, Kyo and Kagura. And there's even more than that! My favorite is probably Hatsuharu and Isuzu. Hatsuharu is probably my favorite character too.

I also really appreciate that Tohru's relationships with both Kyo and Yuki were different from eachother. When I first saw the series, I assumed it would be a reverse harem. But its not. In fact, its barely a love triangle. Because Tohru was always in love with Kyo and Yuki saw her as a maternal figure. If there was a love triangle it was between Kyo, Tohru and Momiji (plus Kagura) Tohru was a key player in all these relationships. She was involved with every member of the Sohma family and they all loved her. I also love that the series starts with Tohru and Yuki's first meeting at Shigure's house and ends with their last meeting there. And that the last line before the epilougue is Yuki saying Tohru's name. It was just such a refreshing story with so many characters that I've come to love.
