TRANSLATION:
My therapist just told me my problem is I need to build more LEGO sets.
This sounds fake, but the logic behind it is actually really interesting. She said obsession with shopping for and dreaming about new sets triggers “quick dopamine” release—it's easy and addictive.
What I’m NOT getting is the “slow dopamine” which is more sustainable and engaging. It's the kind we get from DOING things which take effort but are ultimately rewarding.
So, she suggested building sets and making/designing ways to display them are ways to balance the quick dopamine of shopping and dreaming with the slow dopamine of working at something which takes effort.
Moral of the story is: I should engage in the process of creation around my favorite things. I’ll feel better for it.
My therapist just told me my problem is that I need to write more fanfiction.

Heya, Celibacy Question Anon again
I fully know the blog is centered around an AU, I was merely asking because the ethics of making an AU for something that isn't a show and is an actual religion is pretty shaky since actual religious text is pretty different from a form of entertainment media
I'll be honest, I mainly asked because I have seen and heard multiple accounts of Buddhists saying that personifying JTTW in such a way, especially in erasing/tweaking Wukong's celibacy, is extremely disrespectful
So I wanted to be sure that you were aware of the fact that many Buddhists do say that treating JTTW like it's some sort of fandom media (where you would make AUs rather than interpretations of said text) is very disrespectful (and even in interpretations, outright ignoring his celibacy is still considered wrong. Even if it may has been done before, my concern here is that a lot of worshipers of Wukong has said it's disrespectful)
Hello! First I want to say that what I will say in this text is not directly towards you, anon! I say this in general! What I understood is that this blog and AU are inspired by Journey To The West which is not a religion. It is a great Chinese work of fiction written presumably by Wu Chengen in the XVI century. I would argue it's one of the best Chinese novels of all time that I think everyone should read. Yes, it has a real religion that is Buddhism, but the main focus is the novel derives its material from folk tales and myths. That's how I at least take it when I read it. The author of the novel deliberately uses mutually interpretative terms which allow different experts, scholars, and religious practitioners to interpret the novel as an allegory of Buddhism, Taoism, Confucianism, Christianity etc. So Buddhism is not the main religion if we want to go very deeply into it. I personally think Journey To The West tells a story of spiritual transformation that happens to Wukong for example. While the meaning of religious symbolism can be understood in different ways depending on your own religion and background I think most people agree it's about seeking the truth and salvation for the soul. That's what I want to add to my AU and how I see JTTW in general. So for your point, I will answer as best as I can bc English is not my native language and I don't want to cause any drama or hate. When it comes to pop culture and media, I understand that there must be people who don't like JTTW AU's bc the creators, like myself, want to explore the possibilities and make our own stories for fun and entertainment. I personally think if the people in Buddhism and people who worship Wukong want to have their voice heard they should focus on companies that make a profit. Shouldn't this logic also include Lego Monkey Kid which was based on Journey To the West? Their version of Wukong is not exactly the same as in the novel in my honest opinion and the story could easily be someone's AU (and technically it is!) but it has become full-on animation series that makes money. I'm not trying to be disrespectful to anyone! I'm just trying to open the other door in here. I don't get any money from making this blog. I do this for fun bc JTTW is a novel that I love. Do some Buddhists and people who worship Wukong hate it and find it disrespectful? Maybe yes, but again JTTW is a novel and that's how I view it. It's like saying Christian people hate any movies where they make fun of Jesus Christ like Family Guy. That's not even the worst yet! I'm saying this as someone who used to be a Christian.
What I am saying is that you can't please everyone. I am aware that people might not like what I do, but I know that legally I am not doing anything wrong. I can't please people who are religious. I don't think I have tried to be disrespectful at least not intentionally. If I would I think people would have said it a long time ago.
I hope this gave you some satisfaction or a better idea of why I love JTTW.

Didn't you say you only saw 1 Star Wars movie? Which set did you want? I mean even if you never saw a movie and wanted the Millenium Falcon or the giant AT-AT there would be no judgement but now I'm curious.
I like collecting the Expert Creator buildings (not sure if that's their technical name) but like the stuff that you can connect and create a street corner. I got the Emporium Shop, the Cinema, and the Pet Shop. But missed out on like so many others I really wanted. I also just saw they're apparently retiring the police station and the bookshop this December so I guess I will be spending more money before the years end.
Display cases are awesome! And I totally invested in getting nice ones! I have them for all my sixth scale stuff but have some on order for my statues. Would like to get some for Lego sets when I move and actually have the room to figure out spacing.
TLOU is my favorite. I got all the Dark Horse statues, besides the larger scale Ellie they announced limited to like 500 pieces and Abby because the last week to order her I got hit with like payments for 3 other things. I also have the TLOU2 Collector's Edition Ellie that came with. And I have the Gaming Heads Ellie and have the Ellie and Joel on pre-order. I also have the Prime1 Ellie and Abby on pre-order (just waiting for them to put up the Joel & Ellie)(If you don't know what Prime1 is or haven't seen pics of any of those statues look them up. They're incredible!).
I wanted to get the Millennium Falcon for my dad. He’s a huge Star Wars fan and he had talked about wanting a model of it for awhile, i just didn’t have enough money to buy it at the time :(
I hate how they retire sets, but I guess it forces people to buy them in a short period of time. The Expert Collector stuff is so cool! I’m currently trying to collect all of the Marvel sets and then I’ll probably move onto the Harry Potter ones
I really need to invest in display cases then! I don’t want to buy any at the moment, because I move out I plan to have a room that has all my books and Lego sets
TLOU is goated and I love it as well!! I got the moth tattoo a few months ago! I didn’t know that they had stuff for it though, do you know where I could buy it? But your collection is so fucking awesome!!!!
I looked up some of the Prime 1 statues and those are so cool! I really like the one with Joel and Ellie fighting off a clicker. I also really like the Abby and Ellie one as well!

The Ultimate Guide to Collecting Legos: Getting Started and Building a Collection
Catching the Lego buzz with Mike Savage in New Canaan, CT
The world of Lego collecting is vast and exciting, offering something for everyone. Whether you’re a nostalgic adult revisiting your childhood passion or a newcomer to the world of tiny bricks, this guide will equip you with the knowledge to start and build your Lego collection.
Define Your “Why”:
Before diving in, consider what drives your Lego collecting journey. Are you passionate about a specific theme like Star Wars or Harry Potter? Do you admire the intricate architecture of Lego Creator Expert sets? Identifying your interests will guide your collection choices and ensure you prioritize sets you genuinely enjoy.
Explore the Lego Landscape:
Familiarize yourself with the different Lego themes and product lines. From iconic Creator Expert models to licensed pop culture sets, Lego offers something for every interest. Researching online resources and visiting Lego stores can expose you to the diverse range available. It might even be fun to learn about the evolution of Lego sets through the years.
Set a Budget and Stick to It:
Lego collecting can be thrilling, but it’s crucial to establish a realistic budget and adhere to it. Consider the cost of individual sets, potential shipping fees, and future additions to your collection. Remember, responsible collecting is essential for long-term enjoyment.
Prioritize and Strategize:
Not all Lego sets are created equal. Some gain value over time, while others remain relatively stable. If you’re aiming for future investment potential, research sets nearing retirement from the Lego catalog or those with limited production runs. However, prioritize collecting sets you genuinely enjoy over solely focusing on potential returns.
Choose Your Hunting Grounds:
The Lego hunt can be as exciting as the collection itself! Explore various avenues to acquire your desired sets:
Official Lego Stores: These offer the latest releases and exclusive sets, but prices might be slightly higher.
Online Retailers: Reputable online retailers often have competitive prices and wider selections, but be cautious of counterfeit products.
Lego Certified Stores (LCS): These independent stores offer a personalized experience, potential discounts, and sometimes rare finds.
BrickLink: This online marketplace allows collectors to buy and sell Lego sets and individual bricks, offering a vast selection and the potential for finding unique items.
Embrace the Community:
The Lego collecting community is vibrant and welcoming. Joining Lego online forums, attending Lego conventions, or connecting with local collectors can enhance your experience. Share your passion, learn from others, and gain insights into the collecting world. Mike Savage New Canaan
Caring for Your Collection:
Proper storage is crucial for preserving your Lego collection. Invest in storage solutions that protect your sets from dust, sunlight, and moisture. Assembled models can be displayed on shelves or in glass cabinets, while unassembled sets can be organized in plastic bins or drawers.
Most Importantly, Have Fun!
Lego collecting should be a joyful and fulfilling experience. Prioritize sets that spark your passion, challenge your creativity, and bring you a sense of accomplishment. Remember, the true value of your collection lies in the enjoyment it brings you.
By following these steps and embracing the spirit of the community, you’ll be well on your way to building a Lego collection that reflects your interests and brings you lasting enjoyment.

✨Editing Process Insight: A General Overview of My Editing Process
A brief overview of how I start working on a fiction editing project. 🌸
Hey Story Crafters!
If you’ve been keeping up with my Twitter/X feed or with Revise & Resub news, you’ll know that the submission window for #RevPit 2024 officially closed at noon | 12 p.m. yesterday!
Tumblr media
For those interested in keeping up with the #RevPit excitement—whether or not you decided to participate this year—there are daily activities you can join in on or observe during the (excruciating) waiting period.
Tumblr media
Or you can stay up-to-date by following Revise & Resub on Substack, @ReviseResub on Twitter/X, or r/RevPit on r/eddit.
My Editing Process
In preparation for my #AskTheEditor session, I decided to share a bit of how I approach a new fiction editing project here. And I’m going to do it by comparing my editing approach to one of my hobbies—LEGO building.
My LEGO-building process
I’ve been building LEGOs for a long time, since the first versions of the Millennium Falcon, the Imperial Star Destroyer, and the Death Star II were in circulation—back when the instructions came in one giant, spiralbound booklet (which made it really easy to rip the pages) and none of the bags were numbered. Just picture it: bins and bowls filled with countless pieces of various shapes and sizes, primarily in black and several shades of gray. Sorting through the pieces was more time-consuming than actually building the models.
Since I built those models in middle school—before I refined my LEGO-building process—I can’t say whether or not there was a pattern to how the pieces were packaged. As I got older and LEGO started numbering their bags to make the sorting and building experience more enjoyable, I noticed that there is a pattern to the packaging. Which meant I no longer had to follow the unofficial first steps shown in all the LEGO building instruction booklets: dump out the pieces and sort them. (This was a big relief to my mom, who no longer had to loan out leftover containers or baking trays for my hobby.)
Now, my process is pretty simple:
Unpack the instruction booklet and all the bags.If it’s a big build and the bags are numbered, I organize the bags and put them back in the box in reverse order, so the higher numbered bags are on the bottom.
Start building. I open the bags and pull out the pieces I’ll need to complete the steps on the pages I have open.
In the process of pulling pieces out of the bags and building, I figure out how the pieces are packaged across the bags. So as long as I don’t mangle the bag upon opening, I can keep all the pieces in the bag instead of dumping the pieces out.
Repeat until done. (And sink into a sort of meditative state.)
So, my LEGO-building process is pretty streamlined, and I can reach the finished build relatively quickly (like, over a few days or less, time-wise).

Back to my editing process…
While I’ve been building LEGOs much longer than I’ve been editing fiction, my ability to refine that process gives me confidence as I continue to develop my editing process. It still undergoes a few tweaks now and then, as I learn how to improve my process with each author I work with.
But the way I start a fiction editing project is the same:
Upon receiving the manuscript (MS) in a Word file, I make a folder for the new project and save all the relevant files for the project (e.g., a developmental editing project folder includes the manuscript with markups, the dev editing tracking sheet, and the editorial letter).
Make sure the MS is formatted to industry standard (i.e., 1-inch margins, 12-point Times New Roman, double-spaced, page numbers).
Apply the “Heading” style to chapter titles to make navigation easier.
Start editing.
Communication
My method of communication is email, all the way.
Email is the best communication method for me to keep in contact with authors and other clients. It makes it easier for me to track what we discussed and when, so I can refer back to an earlier conversation if needed and expand on it.
I’m pretty responsive. I make sure to respond to current clients within 24 hours on weekdays. (I don’t usually respond to emails I receive over the weekend unless a current client has an emergency.)
During a fiction editing project, I have 3 standard emails:
At the start of the project. I send an email to the author saying that I’ve started editing their MS, and that I’ll reach out if I have any questions. I also remind the author to reach out if they have any questions, concerns, or need to share additional information about their MS.
A week before the return date. This email is meant to reassure the author that everything is on track to be returned on the date agreed upon per the contract (which we both agreed to and signed prior to the project start date).
The return date. The editorial package is returned to the author, with a reminder that the author has up to 30 days after the return date to send up to 10 emails to discuss the edits.
Frequency of communication
The frequency of the email communication can vary from author to author. I’ve worked with authors who I didn’t contact outside of the 3 standard emails (and a few follow-up emails), and were perfectly fine with that level of communication. I’ve also worked with authors who preferred weekly check-ins. When I start working with a new author, we decide on which level of communication works best for them and stick with it throughout the duration of the project.
#RevPit 2024 #AskTheEditor sessions
This week the #AskTheEditor sessions for #RevPit 2024 start up! My session is this Thursday, March 21 at 7 p.m. ET on r/eddit. Planning and Storyboarding
Start by deciding the message you want to deliver with a time-lapse video. Ask yourself the purpose of creating a time-lapse video. As a video production company, we often ask our clients this question. Hence, we suggest you ask this question and narrow your target audience. The answer will help you with brainstorming ideas and creating a storyboard accordingly.
Choose the Right Interval and Camera Settings
Setting an ideal interval between frames is crucial for successfully capturing the essential aspects of a project. Keeping the intervals short will result in a high-speed time-lapse video that might not be visually appealing. Similarly, your time-lapse video will be too slow when intervals are shorter. Hence, determine the suitable interval settings based on the visual narrative you want to create.
Enhance Visuals with Lighting and Composition
Lighting and composition are essential in enhancing the visual appeal of your time-lapse videos. So, check the footage and make sure the lighting is proper for time-lapse video photography. However, not all locations have lighting that complements time-lapse videos. You can correct it in post-production.
In addition, ensure strategically planned composition to bring perspective and dimension to your time-lapse video. Look for the best angles and frames to elevate visuals with composition.
Complement Your Time Lapse Video with Relevant Music and Sound Design
Adding music in time-lapse videos magically adds depth to the video and makes it more engaging. We witnessed it while creating time-lapse videos for our clients. As a result, we highly recommend integrating custom music or sound to make your time-lapse video more engaging. The music needs to match the pace of your time-lapse video. For instance, an ongoing construction site is the most comprehensive example of time-lapse. Time-lapse here captures a single process of development. It showcases a project’s work from the initial level to the end, letting you know whether the project has been accomplished progressively.
How can you Incorporate Time Lapse?
Well, incorporating time-lapse can powerfully boost your business platform if performed comprehensively. Even though time-lapse is not as complicated as it seems, it’s a time-consuming process that needs a high investment, too. A low investment may not fulfill your expectations. So, for a quality time-lapse video production, make yourself comfortable to spend as per requirement.
Also, it’s better to hire a professional time-lapse video production company to be guided comprehensively about how effectively you can show your business objective beautifully.
