And you can also find a number of dedicated GIF creation tools like LICEcap and Giphy GIF Maker. Video editors such as Adobe Premiere and TechSmith Camtasia do, as well. A number of image editors like Adobe Photoshop and TechSmith Snagit have animated GIF creation capabilities built in. The best tool is often the one you already have. Once you start using animated GIFs, you’ll find many more occasions when this simple, lightweight media format just makes sense. Just having fun or celebrating a win with your team.Showing off a new feature in release notes.Illustrating correct vs incorrect technique.GIFs are a rather versatile format, well suited to a number of common tasks within technical content and everyday office communication: Much more, and it becomes hard for the viewer to follow along, given the lack of player controls like a pause button or scrub bar. Click one of the search results at left to insert the character into your document.Ĭontrast that with the clarity and interest level of this animated GIF (especially when you put yourself in the shoes of someone who has little to no familiarity with the interface):Ī good rule of thumb is to limit the amount of information contained in an animated GIF to 2-4 steps and 3-10 seconds. In the area labeled “Draw a symbol here,” draw out the shape of the character you want to include. To include emoji, math notation, or other special characters in a document when you know the shape but not the name of the character, click Insert > Special Characters. Consider the following instructions for using special characters in Google Docs: GIFs are perfect for replacing or illustrating a rather unwieldy set of written instructions.

What are animated GIFs best suited for when it comes to technical communication? The sweet spot for this format is showing a very brief series of steps or actions. The graphic below shows a pretty common structure that blends multiple media types in one article. Indeed, one of the most popular uses for GIFs in technical communication is to sprinkle them in to illustrate written documentation, as an alternative to a static image or video. Which means you’re starting to see online documentation that uses embedded GIFs as a media format alongside static image formats (e.g., JPG and PNG) and video formats (e.g., MP4).
Licecap convert mp4 to gif software#
Now some technical communicators at startups and established software brands are beginning to pick up on the benefits of animated GIFs as well. Emails like this are becoming an increasingly common sight in my inbox: Technical marketers can tease new features or functionality in just a few frames. The widely-supported motion format is useful to grab the attention of viewers and tell a story… all within a compact space and file size. It’s a move that causes many of us to feel like:Īmong corporate content developers, marketers have been quick to embrace the format as a way to add visual interest to emails and social posts. Most messaging and social platforms support the format, and workplace communication platforms have followed suit. Now thirty years later, the GIF is more popular than ever, providing us with an endlessly creative, visual language of celebration, empathy, and slapstick humor. In the early days of the World Wide Web, it was nearly impossible to surf the web for more than a few minutes without seeing an animated “Under Construction” graphic or a flashing banner ad.Įven as Flash and low-resolution video formats were introduced over time-eventually evolving into high definition streaming video-the humble animated GIF survived, earning it the nickname “cockroach of the Internet.” What’s Old is New AgainĪnimated GIF, a media format first introduced by Compuserve in 1987 and later released into the public domain, was one of the first ways to capture and portray motion on the Internet. One lightweight option worth adding to your multimedia toolbox is a technology that dates back to the dawn of the Digital Age. While videos have become a bigger piece of the content pie for many technical communication teams, the added complexity of audio production and streaming video hosting can be a limiting factor in their use. If the official documentation is an intimidating (dare I say boring) wall of text, they are likely to dismiss it and look elsewhere. Like it or not, customers have more choices than ever for finding help when using or learning about a product. Visuals are a key element of technical communication, not only because they provide better comprehension and recall than text alone 1 … but because they attract attention and interest 2. Daniel will be speaking on the topic of animated GIFs for technical communication at tcworld India 2018.

GIF’s come in many compositions, ideas and forms, just like all art. little screen capture program called LICECap (and hardly a day goes by that I dont. How to Make an Animated Gif in Photoshop CS5 the easy way!įinally, a few examples below show what a good GIF might be like. As suggested it needs to work on desktop and mobile devices. But if not, we’ve compiled this short list of resources that can lead you on the path towards GIF glory. It’s likely they already exceed your capabilities with computer-based tools and showing off their visual prowess and can school you in the fine art of GIF making already. Anyone can submit their work for viewing, if you’ve made it this far you are probably considering participating, or maybe getting your daughter or younger brother to make one for you. All GIFs accepted into the program will be shown on the 14th and Champa LED screen during Supernova Digital Animation Festival. That changes this year as Supernova Digital Animation Festival hosts the first ever Gifathon. But where you almost never see them is on a giant public LED screen! GIFs are used for many things in today’s society, you’ll find them online, on your devices, in newsletters, in museums (well, maybe online galleries), really they can go anywhere and be for anything. We will see but I got a feeling here that the default channels are the main reason why there is no support for VST3 based simply how VST3 plugins check for the inputs on the track.Get your GIF on, it's fun, reasonably easy, and a great way to express your creativity or worldly sensibilities through simple, striking, inexpensive animation.ĭenver Digerati seeks to bring the art community together through the magic of GIF’s, an opportunity to reflect the wide array of exceptional voices and vocations from the art community. LICEcap is an intuitive but flexible application (for Windows and now OSX), that is designed to be lightweight and function with high performance. The default track channels may be the reason why there is no VST3 support yet.Īs you know Reaper's routing is completely stereo based ( No dedicated Mono tracks or Busses) or even the Cockos plugins all are default to 2 channels ( No dedicated Cockos mono plugins) in order to work fully MONO with plugins that do not have the seperate MONO version you have uncheck the VST pins for the second channel in and out. If the VST3 plugin loads the Stereo/Mono/Surround version by looking at the channels on the track that it is loaded unto then all VST3 plugins will load as Stereo since Reaper's default track channels are 2 ( no option for 1 channel tracks) So Since Reaper's routing is 2 channels default and there are no track types so that the plugin sees a MONO track ( 1 channel) or 2 channels ( Stereo) or more 5.1 ( more channels) this may be the reason why VST3 is not yet supported. Future plug-ins may replace the common MIDI interface with alternative methods of control" Typically, this is a MIDI input for control/modulation but these busses are no longer restricted to MIDI standard only. In addition to their flexible audio bussing capabilities, VST3 plug-ins may also offer a dedicated event bus. In fact, it stands for Lightweight Image Composition Engine, and it’s a fantastic little tool to grab sections of your screen and save them as gifs of any length you like. Interaction between channels depends on the type and design of the plug-in. Similar in hilarity to another open source beauty, LAME, fortunately, it’s better than it sounds. Each audio channel is processed independently. For example, all the new VST3 plug-ins in Nuendo 4 can work in stereo-mode when inserted into a stereo channel, but switch to 6 channels when inserted into a 5.1 channel. Their I/O configuration can dynamically adapt to the channel configuration they’re inserted in, meaning that any VST3 plug-in can be surround-capable with true multi-channel processing. VST3 plug-ins are no longer limited to a fixed number of inputs and outputs. Reading Straight from Steinbergs Site a possible reason why Reaper may not work with VSt3

My First Game Jam 2024 is on!
The optional theme is: “Light”
Here’s a few tips and links to get the most out of the jam.
Make a dev log on the community!
A development blog is a blog in which a game developer or team talks about the process they’ve made over the course of the game’s creation. Maintaining a devblog keeps your audience in the know and helps facilitate productivity so you’ll have something to blog about. It also serves as a record of problems you encounter as well as the solutions you find for those problems.
Development logs are essentially the same thing, except we’ll be using the jam forums rather than a blog. However, you are free to use both the forums and your own blog as you develop your game.
Doing so is not necessary at all, but check out all the logs from last jam! In order to get the most out of your jam experience, it is vital that you interact with your fellow jammers and the community surrounding it. They’ll provide valuable feedback and support to help you along the way. So please, we encourage you to mingle, post in other logs, and of course post your own!
In addition, you are encouraged to add images and gifs. Here’s some programs to help facilitate that:

I said I'd take Emesis Blue gif requests, but my current method can be finicky and not always great - I've just being using LICEcap to record gifs while the video is running meaning I very often mess up the timing and need a few goes at it, which is silly

nr04 // I feel bad about not posting.
It has been an eternity since I posted something here, and th reason is that I started taking commissions, because I find that, while money may not buy happiness, you cannot buy happiness with poverty, either. This, plus a few other things, has made it difficult to work on my game.
I did wish to post something, however, and this is it: a doodle I did yesterday night, redrawn for you in FANTASTIC RE-DO-VISION (a technology normally reserved for the high-speed reconstruction of trees and rocks). I am not used to drawing with a tablet and this is my first crack at it in a while, and one of my first ever at using it for pixel art. I would say it turned out fairly well? I have not settled on the colouring and the lines are not finished but who knows if they ever will be. :1
Anyway, none of my projects are “dead” exactly but they will forgive you if you return to your lives and maybe phone the hospital to see how they are doing every so often instead of visiting in person.
If you are curious, the character’s name is Eicheloa “Eloa” Riisilou, 41 years old; academic, cultist, mother of three. She is a character in a story I am writing with one of my fantastic girlfriends. :D
I will post again eventually, but I have no clue when that might be. Thank you for your patience. n_n;

I hope you don't mind me asking, but how do you get your gifs to be so hd but a small enough file size to post on tumblr?
it honestly depends on the size of the video as a whole (as well as your screen size), the amount of colours in it and what program you use to get the gif! the more colours there are in a video, the poorer quality it might be. gifs only have a palette of 256 colours so youd have to keep that in mind when making them
the other mods use gifcamera & i use licecap . some people use photoshop or other programs to touch up their gifs and make the colours more high quality, but we do not know how to do that (we actually use ezgif for a lot of our editing)
hopefully this is at least slightly helpful! ♪ (´∪` ●) ゝthe other mods & other stim blogs are more than welcome to chime in on this

My first gif ever. Steps I had to follow to do this:
Download LICEcap
Use LICEcap to record part of S1E7 (probably did 10 takes)
Upload the video to Imgur
Download the Imgur app because otherwise it won't let you download on mobile (ugh)
Download the video from the Imgur app
Convert the video to a gif (which was probably the issue in the first place)
Please lmk if you have a better screencap program that converts directly to gifs!!!

https://ift.tt/3eNjSk9...
https://ift.tt/2vBxeuK
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Command Processor
%USERPROFILE%\init.cmd
Tumblr media
@echo off doskey /macrofile=%USERPROFILE%\init.macros if "%CMD_INIT_SCRIPT_LOADED%" neq "" goto :eof set CMD_INIT_SCRIPT_LOADED=1 set EDITOR=c:/dev/vim/vim.exe set GIT_EDITOR=c:/msys64/usr/bin/vim.exe set GRAPHVIZ_DOT=c:/dev/graphviz/bin/dot.exe set LANG=ja_JP.UTF-8 set GOROOT_BOOTSTRAP=c:\users\mattn\go1.13.5 set CMAKE_GENERATOR=MSYS Makefiles set GIT_SSH=c:\windows\system32\openssh\ssh.exe cls
例えば僕の init.macros は以下の通り。
ls=ls --color=auto --show-control-chars -N $* licecap="C:\Program Files (x86)\LICEcap\licecap.exe" $* gimp="C:\Program Files\GIMP 2\bin\gimp-2.10.exe" $* vlc="C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\vlc\vlc.exe" $* code="C:\Users\mattn\AppData\Local\Programs\Microsoft VS Code\bin\code.cmd" $* ag=ag --nocolor $* ssh=c:\msys64\usr\bin\ssh.exe $* find=c:\msys64\usr\bin\find.exe $* vi=vim $* mv=mv -i $* cp=cp -i $* rm=rm -i $* grep=grep --color=auto $* java="c:\Program Files\Java\jdk-13\bin\java" $* julia=c:\users\mattn\AppData\Local\Julia-1.3.1\bin\julia $* conda=c:\users\mattn\Miniconda3\Library\bin\conda.bat $* vcvars64="C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio\2019\Community\VC\Auxiliary\Build\vcvars64.bat" choco=C:\ProgramData\chocolatey\bin\choco.exe $* vagrant=c:\dev\vagrant\bin\vagrant.exe $* docker="C:\Program Files\Docker\Docker\resources\bin\docker.exe" $* docker-compose="C:\Program Files\Docker\Docker\resources\bin\docker-compose.exe" $* tinygo=c:\dev\tools\tinygo\bin\tinygo.exe $*
— mattn (@mattn_jp) September 13, 2017

Hi, I was wondering how you make your theme image preview? The one you show your theme in gif
hi there,the theme image is a screen recording of a live blog with the theme applied!  i use quicktime player to screen record then make the gif from that recording in photoshop.  there are other screencapping/recording programs out there that do a good job, some of which are free, some of which are paid for versions - just have a poke around google to see if there’s something suitable for screen recording on your device!
there is one i have tried called licecap - which not only does the screen recording but also automatically converts the output to a gif for you!

Go for a Paid App and not the Equally Good Free One
If you’ve ever needed to record what you’re doing on your screen, you realized that you need a product for that. Of course, you COULD record it with your phone like a Neanthertalian, but let’s not.
Ever since this need arose, I’ve browsed the web for products that do just that. You won’t believe the amount of products that cost money! Or that they are being jerks and provide a free product, but with their logo on the screen, so that pressure amounts that you pay those $$$.
As I’m not producing any apps or products, I’m in the team of ‘everything MUST be free’ and anybody who pays even 10 dollars for the priviledge of using a product that someone worked for hundreds of hours is a sucker. Of course, you could be that sucker and thus promote paying for an honest days work and not pirating blah blah.
Well, boys and girls, I’ve discovered a FREE product - and just after I’ve lost all hope and resolved on paying BandiCam.
*drums rolling*
This product is LICEcap!
Yes, I’m so happy it exists that I’ve inserted it in a header format. Take it.
It looks super simple, but it actually works. Ran into a lady on a TechNet forum and she displayed a gif and it just rocked my world. Thank me later. Seriously. Thank me.
