The Little Mermaid (statue) by p.mathias The Little Mermaid (Danish: Den lille Havfrue) is a bronze statue by Edvard Eriksen, depicting a mermaid becoming human. The sculpture is displayed on a rock by the waterside at the Langelinie promenade in Copenhagen, Denmark. It is 1.25 metres (4.1 ft) tall and weighs 175 kilograms (385 lb). Based on the 1837 fairy tale of the same name by Danish author Hans Christian Andersen, the small and unimposing statue is a Copenhagen icon and has been a major tourist attraction since its unveiling in 1913. Street Art in Copenhagen

Gazing over the Sound at the Langelinie Pier sits Copenhagen's famous Little Mermaid sculpture. For such a small bronze statue, the half fish, half woman attracts a vast amount of tourists year on year. The sculpture was commissioned by Edvard Eriksen and donated by Carl Jacobsen who had fallen in love with the ballerina performing The Little Mermaid at the Royal Danish Theatre in 1909 and dedicated the piece of art to her. The artwork is inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's 1837 fairytale, The Little Mermaid, where a mermaid falls in love with a human prince and wishes to become human herself. (Nikel, 2022) In later years, the fairytale was adopted by Disney and animated into a movie that would gain  immense popularity.  

Despite it's small size in comparison to other countries' iconic statues such as, The Statue of Liberty, the sculpture still receives a lot of tourist attraction. Positioned along a popular promenade, the Little Mermaid sees many visitors from all over the world. (Nikel, 2022) What started as an unofficial tourist attraction, has now become a "must-see" site for a lot of people travelling to Copenhagen due to its romantic back story and popularity amongst tourists. Unfortunately, the statue is often a canvas for protesters and often embellished with political messages and statement graffiti (Harris, 2024). Hence, while there are some locals that adore the “cute” statue, others do not, specifically following the animation of her into Disney’s Ariel (Harris, 2024).

Have just been going to more places to visit, exhibitions, walks, cafes, trying out new food, etc. Made a trip to see the little mermaid. It was a gift from Danish brewer Carl Jacobson to the city of Copenhagen. The sculpture is made of bronze and granite and sits in the water of Langelinie Pier.

On January 6, 1998, The Little Mermaid statue (by Edvard Eriksen) was decapitated again the culprits were never found, but the head was returned anonymously to a nearby television station, and reattached on February 4.

Das Kastell Kronborg, oft als "Hamlets Schloss" bezeichnet, ist eine beeindruckende Festung in der Hafenstadt Helsingør, nördlich von Kopenhagen. Kronborg wurde 1420 erbaut und im Laufe der Jahrhunderte mehrmals erweitert und renoviert. Die Festung spielte eine wichtige Rolle in der dänischen Geschichte und war ein wichtiger Stützpunkt für die Kontrolle des Sunds, einer strategisch wichtigen Wasserstraße. Booking.com Kronborg erlangte weltweite Aufmerksamkeit als Schauplatz des Dramas "Hamlet" von William Shakespeare. Die Geschichte des melancholischen Prinzen Hamlet, der am dänischen Hof umherirrt, wurde in dieser beeindruckenden Kulisse zum Leben erweckt. Seit 2013 buche ich meine Unterkünfte über booking.com und stelle mir meine Reisen zusammen. Merke mir Hotels die mir gut gefallen, um sie in spätere Reisen zu integrieren. Bereut habe ich das nie. Aber seht am besten selbst.Unterkunft suchen TIPP Kopenhagen - habe ich schon an anderer Stelle erwähnt ist nicht sonderlich preiswert, um mal schnell einen spontanen und günstigen Städtetrip zu machen, aber das "Seaside Toldboden - 7 kitchens & bar" gleich um die Ecke vom Kastell oder der Kleinen Meerjungfrau gelegen ist für mich ein schöner Ort, um am späten Abend den Sonnenuntergang, das rauschende Wasser und den Blick rüber zur Oper zu geniessen. Auch ist die abwechslungsreiche Küche einen Besuch wert. Ansonsten befindet sich direkt vor der Außenterrasse auf der Hafenanlage ein Areal mit Liegestühlen, die kostenlos zur Verfügung stehen. Und mal ganz ehrlich ein, zwei kühle Getränke mit etwas zu Essen aus der Tupperdose ist mit Sicherheit ein Magic Moment in Kopenhagen. Letzter Tipp - im Frühjahr Ende April, Anfang Mai blühen die Kirschbäume im Langelinie-Park, -Promenade oder -Pier.

Nur wenige Minuten von der Kopenhagener Innenstadt entfernt liegt ein weiteres Wahrzeichen, das die Besucher in die Welt der Märchen entführt - die kleine Meerjungfrau.
