Some more fanart of @barbwritesstuff Bloodmoon depecting Lawerence Blackwell meeting my MC, Hala at The Rose and Cherry Cafe.

It's interesting to see the similarities and comparisions of Blackwells dynamic with Carrie, and Hala to Charles Perrault's "Little Red Ridding Hood." With Carrie, Blackwell is clearly the "wolf" in their relatonship dynamic. Disguising himself as Carrie's guardian and family, feeding her blood, and offering her a place to rest beside's him so she's easily acessiable and docile prey. Then when Carrie goes missing the werewolf that comes to speak with him is just this little slip of a girl wearing hand me down clothes, and homemade jewlery who's barly into her mid 20s. She's even wearing a red headscarf! Compaired to someone like Blackwell who's been around a few centuries Hala seems like another child he can cow into obedience with a flash of fangs and promise of reward.

Yet if you pay attention to the shadows you can tell who the real Apex predator is. Sure Hala doesn't look as intimidating as Blackwell in her human form, but it took tremendous will power for someone as amiable as her to not pop Blackwall's head off like a Champage cork. Espically after having to deal with his creepy stepford smile, terrible smell of rot, and even more odious personality. How much poision has Carrie had to swallow over the years because of him? Not just the blood cocktails but the horrible insults and derrogitory remarks about werewolves that Carrie internalized from him while growing up?! The only reasion Hala was able to keep a polite smile during her talk with Blackwell was because she was imagining the painful ways she wanted to murder this entitled and abusive POS parasite!

In retrospect the fact the Thicker Than MC can want nothing to do with the court and be openly disgusted and defiant of the Night King and Gaius will love them for it. It's hillarious because after all the scheaming and years perfecting his brew Lawerence did over the centuries and one of his smiler thralls is somehow more popular using his name!! If the previous Lord Blackwell wasn't torn apart by Werewolves he'd be turning over in his grave🤣

Gaius actually liked Lawrence Blackwell. Lawrence was young, ambitious, and his schemes were delightfully absurd (brainwashing fledglings? Wonderful! Plus, he made great brews). However, the favour of the king is very fickle. He can love you one night, and find someone else more entertaining/amusing the next.

Which is exactly what happened to Lawrence Blackwell.

One minute, he's a favourite. The next, werewolves show up, and the king is giggling and kicking his feet for these beasts... and oh well, the dogs want to tear you to pieces, and the king likes them right now, better go in and give it the old college try, old boy.

The real problems started when Gaius realised how much he enjoyed watching a vampire lord being torn to bits... and how long it's been since he had a real war.

After falling in love with @barbwritesstuff Bloodmoon, I had to play the sequel demo for Thicker Than. So I decided to introduce my new Lady Blackwell, Dr. Roxane Godwin, with her bloodspattered hospital ID badge.

Roxane hasn't had the best life so far she a widow, an overworked single mother, with student loan debts, and she winds up murdered against her own car and made a vampire against her will. Now she's dragged into all this court politics and power games while dealing with an existental crisis about if she's still the same person after being dead?! Dammit she doesn't have time for this BS! Sure her previous life wasn't the best but it was her life!!! She's immortal now and can have cool powers, but it sounds like the trade off of being a vampire is looking forward to an eternity of loosing herself to what sounds suspicously similar to clinical depression, and growing hunger.

Recently played the updated Ticker Than demo and I love the parelles of Blackwell meeting with the werewolf representive at the Rose & Cherry café. It's a fun mirror riversal of the scene in Blood Moon, only this time the entire staff is werewolves and the new Blackwell isn't sure what to expect.

As funny as the wolfpack adopting a fail vampire is consider the possibility of the wolfpack bonding with Blackwell over their shared hatred of the court. Espically if the vampire MC still hates the previous Lord Blackwell for killing and enslaving them.

Alpha MC: We'll work with u for now to take down the Night Court but if u try anything we'll tear u apart like the previous Lord Blackwell.

Blackwell: I've seen the security tape of his death, and Lawerence Blackwell deserved every second of it. Although personly I would have shoved the asshole into the forge, and watch him burn to death in molten silver.

Alpha MC:

You may just get your wish. The werewolves are very much willing to listen to a vampire who ain't a fan of the former Blackwell, ain't a fancy talker, and ain't got no qualms about taking the fight to the Night Court's doorstep.

Couldn't sleep last night so I drew more @barbwritesstuff Thicker Than art depicting Lady Roxan Blackwell and Lord Marcel Medici looking dapper AF while dancing in the shadows.

Marcel and Roxane's dynamic is facinating, even with Lord Medici being known to have a fondness for fledglings someone like Roxane is a pleasant surprise. She's an intelligant woman with a medical doctorate, which was almost unheard of for black women when he was still human. She was able to accomplish something like that during her brief human life which was considered only a dream for anyone that wasn't a wealthy white guy for a long time. Which also makes her death especially tragic considering Lawerence took her life and free will to serve his ambitons, stealing Roxane from her infant son. It's all too familair to Marcel who's seen so many beautiful and promising black women and girls over the centuries lose thier lives because an entitled wealthy man wanted to use them for his own success and comfort. It's why Marcel never knew his own mother after being born on that damn slave ship. Is it any wonder they both became so close after knowing each other for 5 short years? Even with Marcel orginally aproching Roxane for stratigic reasons, he genuinly enjoys her company as he got to know her. Likewise as much as Roxane hates the court Marcel is one of the few people there who makes things tolerable.

While both IF games feature supernaturals living secretly among people, they're respective Vampires and Werewolves are very diffrent. However both stories do have similar type of main intro villain, a creepy white male vampire who creates thralls, commits murder, and abducts people to expermint on them for blood and power. Granted Blackwell is more of a Stepford smiler mixed with sinister business man type, while Murphy gives off more of a mad scientist vibe (and he definitly didn't graduate medical school).

After finishing Blood Moon and Thicker Than demo, I've come to the conclusion the Night King is thirsty AF for the Werewolf MC, pun intended. Heck when I first played through and had my MC, Hala, go to the Night Court I got some Salome vibes from Gaius wanting to see her wolf form before giving his blessing to have her pack use Blackwell as a chew toy. The creepy Valintine he sent, and Gaius obsessively watching the security footage of Lawerence Blackwall being mauled to death in the sequel demo. Lbr I wouldn't be surprise if the Night King put togeter a collage of my MCs photos from his spy network like a stalker with a crush. Ig we should be thankfull that Gaius isn't up to date with modern tech and socail media. He'd be so annoying trying to message or text the MC, or waking them up at 3am trying to vido chat.

Crush is the wrong word.

Gaius used to wage war against the allied werewolf packs of central Europe. Werewolves are nostalgic enemies for him... and he wants the wolf pack to get stronger so they'll be more fun to play with.

With the latest update of the Thicker Than demo by @barbwritesstuff I decided its time to post a collage and some info about my Blackwell.

Name: Dr. Roxane Godwin Blackwell

Occupation: Doctor, single mom and unwilling vampire noble.

Pronouns: She/Her

Height:5ft.5”/165.1cms

Birthdate: June 19, 1981

Appearance: An African American woman of average height and build, with a heart shaped face, dark brown complexion, brown eyes, black braided hair, a full mouth, and defined cheekbones. Usually seen wearing modern fashionable clothes with silver jewelry, or medical scrubs. 

Family: Chris( husband, deceased),Percy(son, alive)

FC: Lupita Nyong’o

LI: Too many appealing ROs will play multiple saves for Marcel, Illya, Freya, and Nathan.

Misc. Info & headcanons:

Her name Roxane means dawn or light in persian. Her original surname Godwin means friend of God, and is a reference to Mary Shelly, as it was one of the author’s maiden names.

Her son's name, Percy means to pierce or destroy, and is in reference to Mary Shelly’s only surviving son.

Her initials RGBW are the same as a type of lighting combos used for electronics.

Roxane prefers to be addressed by Doctor rather than Lady, because she actually worked hard for her medical degree.

Due to working in the medical field Roxane already developed a morbid sense of humor to help her cope. This hasn’t changed much since becoming a vampire except the jokes have become darker.

Roxane knows how to play the ukulele. It was a hobby she picked up as a child, and she even used to play lullabies for Percy when he was a baby. She doesn’t play it much anymore since becoming a vampire.

Roxane’s symbol after becoming the new Lady Blackwell is a stylised plague doctor mask on top of a medical caduceus. So she winds up both bird and snake imagery when associating with house Blackwell.

Roxane’s favorite flowers are poppies because of their medical uses and they’re pretty easy to grow. Although she does appreciate the irony that poppy flowers are also associated with remembrance.

While she died in her late 30s Roxane was blessed with good skin, so even though she was overworked and tired when Lawrence turned her she still looked younger, and now she always will.

While Roxane has to practice and relearn how to emote, smiling seems to be easier due to muscle memory from her time as Lawerence’s thrall. Sadly it’s much different from the way she used to smile when she was alive, because Roxane used to have a beautiful smile that would light up a room.

Still married to Chris but he died from a car accident before the events of Blood Moon, and Thicker Than. Roxane kept both of their silver wedding rings on a chain around her neck, but Lawerence Blackwell took and melted them when he made Roxane a vampire.

Roxane’s attempt at friendship with Minjo is more tragic in retrospect, since Roxane knows intimately the kind of pain and grief of losing the husband and father of her child, but if she ever fully remembered the previous Lord Blackwall forcing her to hurt Minjo and her family. The guilt would devastate Roxane as well as make her wish she could have murdered her predecessor herself.

After becoming a vampire Roxane started wearing exclusively red or black for her more formal attire. That way the bloodstains don’t ruin her more expensive clothes.

When Percy was still a baby Roxane gave him a small stuffed rabbit and it became his favorite comfort toy. As he got older he decided to give the rabbit to Roxane, because he’s a big boy now, and he knows how much his mom misses being with him. He figures the rabbit will help Roxane not feel so sad and lonely because Percy loved it so much but he wants his mom to know he loves her more. Roxane always kept the little stuffed rabbit in her pocket or purse, like a lucky charm. Even when she was imprisoned for five years, focusing on the toy and memories of her son helped keep Roxane from completely losing herself.

Roxane’s relationship with her son, Percy, in an odd way mirrors the dynamic of Perseus and both his mother, Danaë, and Medusa (also Roxane would have definitely read the Percy Jackson books with her son). Like the Greek hero Percy is a protective boy who is raised by a single mother, and then separated from each other when Roxane is made a member of the Night Court against her will, although not by an unwanted marriage but by being made a fledgling vampire. Tragically Roxane could also potentially be like the gorgon, after breaking out of her 5 year imprisonment, she tries to visit her son, but ultimately leaves without letting Percy see her face. It would break Roxane's cold dead heart to be the cause of her son's demise, or have her baby boy look at her like a monster. As a vampire Roxane prefers to live in seclusion from the court, and while she doesn’t have the power to turn others to stone like Medusa. A vampire's predatory gaze can cause people to freeze and if trained enough in Path of the Master she can potentially command someone to be still as a statue. There are also some versions of Medusa’s origin where she was a priestess who was assaulted in her temple by a god, and cursed to become a monster. Likewise Roxane’s murder by Lawernence Blackwell in the hospital parking lot reads chillingly similar to many stories and police reports about victims of SA.
