So we're going to see if federalism can be pushed to its 'logical endpoint' I guess
#It has taken me aback a little. With just how much gusto 'states' rights' rhetoric has been revived and embraced#That plus increasing polarizarion between individual state constitutions (rapid reform/amendment) in response to federal legislation#And between state constitutions and federal legislation#Oh buddy. 📨 An open letter to State Governors & Legislatures
🚜 End Homelessness, Grow Local! A Bold Plan for America
✍️ 2 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!
I am reaching out with a proposal that could significantly reduce our reliance on imported produce while also addressing our growing homelessness crisis. With the current economic downturn, rising tariffs, and a rising crime rate, action is critical.
Between 2023 and 2024, 102 homeless individuals died on Anchorage Alaska’s streets, despite their $190 million budget for mutual aid. The current approach is not yielding results. I propose a new initiative: developing seasonal farm housing for homeless individuals willing to participate in agricultural work.
Under this program, individuals would receive stable housing with the contractual obligation to maintain and work a state-owned farm. Failure to meet these obligations beyond a reasonable extent would result in termination of the contract. To ensure accountability and a path to stability, participants could be subject to mandatory drug testing.
This initiative offers multiple benefits: • Addressing homelessness by providing stable, purpose-driven housing. • Boosting local food production and reducing reliance on costly imports. • Restoring hope and reducing substance abuse, as meaningful work and stability are proven deterrents to addiction and crime.
Financially, this proposal is feasible. An acre of undeveloped land in Alaska costs approximately $10,000. In contrast, the state spent nearly $50,000 per homeless person last year, with no significant improvement. Redirecting these funds could secure multiple acres per person, including space for small housing units, with even greater efficiency for homeless families sharing lots.
This is an opportunity to invest in self-sufficiency, economic stability, and human dignity. I urge you to consider this initiative and explore how we can implement a sustainable solution for our future.

Has this been done as a poll yet?? Apologies if it has! It’s a very morbid one but it’s always been an incredibly divisive question and I’m curious.
Admittedly these are very simplistic answers. The reason being, whilst I acknowledge there’s more room for dimension of feeling there, I wanted to get to the basics of it if you like? Boiled down, when those charges against Anne were drawn up, did Henry honestly think they were true?
#it’s a difficult question#someone take one for the team and ouija board Henry lol#but anyway#a big part of this I guess is would Cromwell do it w/o the king’s permission/approval#he was clearly more than happy to construct the charges. that he was the architect is beyond doubt#but w/o henrys involvement or knowledge? I’m not so sure..#have to say I’m convinced by MacCulloch’s suggestion that Anne and Thomas Did Not Get On#even if they worked together on aspects of the reformation his evidence is solid enough imo to support the idea they weren’t allies#(the reformation is where they found some common ground it seems?#they agreed on the poor laws he’d had drafted it looks like?#and both disliked and pushed back against the legislation that went through parliament re: monastic closure)#for example#but overall#seems they tried to work around each other for the most part. again elements of the reformation excepted#and that would presumably cause issues and conflicts of interest.#on top of any personality clashes etc.#but could that crystallise into a plot of that calibre absent of Henry’s involvement?#or his approval?#again.. not so sure#henry viii#anne boleyn#thomas cromwell#Tudor history#poll

French Revolution Constitution
The French Revolution resulted in several significant constitutional changes, marking the transition from the Ancien Régime to a series of revolutionary governments. Here is a brief overview of the constitutions developed during the French Revolution:
1. The Constitution of 1791
The first constitution of France, adopted on September 3, 1791, established a constitutional monarchy.
Key Features:
Limited Monarchy: King Louis XVI retained the throne but his powers were considerably reduced.
Separation of Powers: The government was divided into three branches: the executive (the King), the legislative (the Legislative Assembly), and the judiciary.
Legislative Assembly: A single-chamber assembly with 745 members elected for two-year terms.
Voting Rights: Limited to "active citizens" who paid a certain amount of taxes, thus excluding a significant portion of the population.
Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen: Incorporated into the preamble, asserting fundamental rights and freedoms.
2. The Constitution of 1793 (Year I)
Adopted on June 24, 1793, but never implemented due to the ongoing war and internal strife, this constitution was more radical and democratic.
Key Features:
Republican Government: Abolished the monarchy and established a French Republic.
Universal Male Suffrage: All male citizens aged 21 and over could vote.
Direct Democracy: Frequent referendums and primary assemblies where citizens could propose and vote on laws.
Rights and Welfare: Strong emphasis on social and economic rights, including the right to work and education.
3. The Constitution of 1795 (Year III)
Implemented on August 22, 1795, this constitution established the Directory, marking a shift to more conservative governance.
Key Features:
Bicameral Legislature: Consisting of the Council of Five Hundred and the Council of Ancients.
Directory: A five-member executive body chosen by the legislature.
Limited Suffrage: Voting rights were restricted to property-owning men, reversing the universal male suffrage of 1793.
Stability Measures: Designed to prevent the rise of another dictatorial power and address the chaos of the previous years.
The Constitution of 1791 (Excerpt Translation)
Here is an excerpt translation from the Constitution of 1791, focusing on key articles that outline the new political structure:
Preamble: The National Assembly, wishing to establish the French Constitution on the principles it has just recognized and declared, abolishes irrevocably the institutions which were harmful to liberty and the equality of rights.
Title III - Public Powers:
Article 1: The sovereignty is one, indivisible, inalienable, and imprescriptible. It belongs to the nation; no section of the people nor any individual may attribute to themselves the exercise thereof.
Article 2: The nation, from which alone emanates all powers, can exercise these powers only by delegation. The French Constitution is representative; the representatives are the Legislative Body and the King.
Article 3: The legislative power is delegated to a National Assembly composed of temporary representatives freely elected by the people to serve for a given period.
Article 4: The government is monarchical; the executive power is delegated to the King, to be exercised under his authority by ministers and other responsible agents, in the manner and to the extent determined by the legislative power.
These documents reflect the evolving political philosophies and tumultuous changes during the French Revolution, capturing the struggle between democratic ideals and practical governance.

"C.C.F. BAN ON 'REDS'," Vancouver Sun. May 29, 1934. Page 1 & 2. --- By Canadian Press VICTORIA, May 29. - Taking a cue from what has happened in the East, Rev. Robert Connell, leader of the C. C. F. opposition in the Legislature, read Communists out of the Co-operative Commonwealth movement in British Columbia, Monday evening, in a clear-cut address before Victoria clubs of the organization. Speaking to an audience in the Maccabees Hall, the Parliamentary leader of the C. C. F. in this Province made himself unmistakably clear on the point.
Agitation, strikes, and advocacy of the overthrow of the state by force were no part of the machinery, thought or aims of the C. C. F. party, he said. Neither, he continued, were dictatorships, fascism, nor other forms of militarized states.
The Co-operative Commonwealth was Socialism, and its federation proposed the assumption of power in Canada by constitutional means solely. On this basis only would the C. C. F. appeal for public support, Rev. Mr. Connell said.
Talk of violence, from the moderate forms of direct action to the extremes of street fighting, was not only folly, but was doing active damage to the C. C. F. movement, he declared.
CONSTITUTIONAL MEANS The parliamentary group of the party in the House, and the Provincial Executive of the movement, were convinced that a change in the economic system could be brought about only by constitutional means, and that after winning the support of a majority of the people.
Steady strides had been made, he said, in winning the confidence and support of British Columbia voters, evidence to him on his recent tour of thirty centres in northern parts of the Province, and this work should be continued.
It should be explained at the outset that the C. C. F. stood for Socialism, and its application by constitutional methods.
The leader of the opposition gave an interesting description of his tour through northern ridings, in company with Ernest Bakewell, C. C. F. member for Mackenzie.
SURPRISE FOR LIBERALS An election in the north today would furnish the Liberal administration with a vast surprise, he declared. After an address of an hour and a half, Rev. Mr. Connell responded to questions from the floor.

Op you. You realize the entire point of this moral exercise is to force you to confront the reality that BOTH OPTIONS LEAVE YOU WITH BLOOD ON YOUR HANDS, yes?
With the two options being: TOUCHING (& diverting the violence of the status quo onto a NEW TARGET THAT WAS *SAFE* BEFORE, orchestrating their death by your own hand) or NOT TOUCHING (& allowing the status quo to continue its trajectory of violence against the multitude of ppl it's STRUCTURALLY INTENDED to target— but without bearing the personal burden of choosing to kill someone, instead bearing the "'lighter'" burden of passive negligence/ignorance).
This exercise HAS NO CORRECT ANSWER bc it's not INTENDED TO ELICIT A '''CORRECT''' ANSWER— YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO INTERROGATE PERSONAL CULPABILITY FOR YOUR ACTIONS & THE HARM THAT COMES OUT OF THAT CHOSEN (IN/)ACTION.
I think you're dishonestly framing this as Voting Blue = Lesser Evil = Pulling Lever when both parties are **well within the status quo**, except Repubs want to multitrack drift to maximise damage.
Voting NOT REPUB means less blood is on your hands; not voting at all likely means more blood than voting against Open Fascism; but voting Covert Fascism is **still voting for the status quo** bc your dems are a centre-right & moving rightward party THEMSELVES.
Your 'first past the post' system means that by any other nation's definition? You are already not a democracy. You need to stop having a kneejerk defensive reaction everytime somebody expresses this opinion of your country. You need to rehaul your entire electoral system for personal voting to have the impact your magical thinking claims it does— & pretending otherwise is /choosing not to engage with the problem/ & turning your back on the lever so you at least don't have to Watch the Outcome.

All y'all fuckers when you say you ain't gonna vote
#americans should go open season on their 1%#if they want sympathy from everyone else in the world who must 'abide by' the decisions of the States under threat of Military UltraViolence#failing that I need to not fucking see liberals REFUSE to engage with global social justice efforts (bc it '''clogs their dash''')—#only to mass fucking spam all online spaces with VOTE BLUE TO PROTECT AND SERVE OUR GLORIOUS AMERICAN DEMOCRACY every 4y#& incite mass federal reporting on ppl who focus their reformation criticism on '''the good party''' as 'election interferance'#bc I guess you can't just call them 'dirty foreign commies' like you see repubs doing bc ~ohhh that would be so /impolite/ & on-the-nose~#you ppl are going to be so fucking embarassed of yourselves assuming you don't go full conservative in 12y anyways#anyways 'american boils down famous moral conundrum into a False Binary of 'Good Team vs Evil Team'; more unsurprising news still to come#spelt interference wrong back there but it's mid-tag so fuck it#us politics#us propaganda#trolley problem#and for the wannabe feds: Open Season means pursuing legislative policies against them— not 'exploding them with hammers' 🙄😒

Connecticut Passes Major Housing Bill Impacting Zoning Laws

Connecticut Housing Bill's Impact on Zoning LawsAmid significant controversy, the Connecticut Housing Bill has cleared a pivotal legislative hurdle. It passed in the House with an 84-67 vote, signaling a transformative shift in the state's approach to zoning and affordable housing. The bill's advancement stems from a nearly 12-hour debate. It marks a critical turn in addressing regional disparities in housing accessibility.Despite facing staunch opposition from Republicans and some Democrats, especially those from Fairfield County, the bill's proponents emphasize its necessity. Modernizing zoning laws and facilitating more inclusive housing practices are at its core.Central to the bill are zoning reforms aimed at dismantling restrictive local laws. These laws have long impeded the development of affordable housing across Connecticut. The legislation requires municipalities to alter zoning regulations. This includes eliminating large-lot mandates and easing approval processes.Specifically, it introduces provisions for "middle housing," like duplexes and triplexes, on commercially zoned land. This aims to enhance affordable housing options. This push to reconfigure local zoning practices has ignited significant discourse over local control. Critics lament a perceived erosion of municipal authority in land-use decisions.Underpinning the reforms is a "Fair Share" housing quota. Wealthier communities must actively plan for affordable housing stock or justify their inability to comply.By linking each municipality's objectives to broader regional needs, the bill aims to harmonize local development with statewide affordability goals.Should municipalities falter in meeting targets, they must propose alternative plans. These plans should align with the intent of expanding affordable and mixed-income housing. This includes identifying suitable development areas, especially downtown hubs and transit-rich locales.Beyond zoning, the bill enacts significant changes in rental regulations. One notable aspect is the prohibition of algorithms for determining rental rates. This addresses concerns over automated pricing exacerbating housing unaffordability.Recognizing the importance of rental housing, the bill mandates 25% of new developments be rental units. Half of these must accommodate families, enhancing the environment for low-income and family households. These measures are crafted to bolster housing availability and mitigate bottlenecks in rental affordability. Communities resistant to reforms are ushered into new developmental paradigms.Affluent areas now must reassess their housing priorities. While apprehension over lost local control is palpable, economic benefits from expanded housing can't be overlooked.Connecticut faces a severe housing shortage, needing at least 150,000 affordable housing units, which amplifies the urgency of implementing these legislative changes. The bill's passage is more than a legislative victory. It represents a call to action for a more equitable housing environment statewide.AssessmentConnecticut's new housing bill signifies a major shift in the state's zoning framework. This legislation sets a precedent with wide-reaching effects for real estate development.By amending zoning laws, the aim is to address housing shortages. It also seeks to potentially reshape community environments.Proponents believe it will increase housing accessibility. However, critics warn of impacts on local control and potential infrastructure strain. As developers and investors evaluate the bill's impacts, its long-term effects on Connecticut's real estate market remain under close observation.

Nearly 700,000 Americans in Washington, D.C. pay federal taxes and serve in the military—yet they lack full voting representation in Congress. This is a civil rights issue that disproportionately impacts Black voters and contradicts our democratic ideals. The Washington, D.C.
