Republicans threaten to withdraw funding for an entire district if Memphis council reinstates Justin Pearson
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - A Shelby County commissioner told FOX13 on Friday that state leaders in Nashville are threatening to take away funding from Memphis and other Shelby County projects if the county commission decides to reinstate expelled state Rep. Justin J. Pearson.
Pearson (D-Memphis) and Justin Jones (D-Nashville) both were voted out of the Tennessee House of Representatives on Thursday.
The decision came a week after hundreds of protestors gathered at the Tennessee State Capitol to speak out against what they viewed as lax gun laws in the wake of a mass shooting at The Covenant School in Nashville that left three 9-year-olds and three adults dead.
As protestors gathered outside of the House walls, Pearson and Jones took part in a demonstration of their own on the House floor, using a bullhorn and political signs to speak out against lax gun laws. That demonstration prompted the votes which resulted in the two Democrats being expelled from the House.

Instead of filing your tax 1040A, go to irs.gov & file extension for year 20**
This does have a due date & is something you’ll need to routinely do every year.

« So Jan. 6 was that move of normalizing the possibility of violence, trying it out. Think of Jan. 6 more as a trial balloon for the exercise of state power. »
— Dahlia Lithwick at Slate.
We saw which parts of government worked and which did not.
January 6th is a good argument for DC statehood. If the District had control over its own National Guard like the 50 states then a rogue president could not withhold help if a treasonous mob tried to destroy American institutions.
DC has been part of the US longer than any part of the US west of the Mississippi River – or Florida. Yet DC still has Taxation Without Representation.
Tumblr media
Republicans oppose DC statehood because it would mean two more African American senators who would probably be Democrats.
It's yet another way Republicans practice voter suppression which enables them to hold on to power and elect wannabe dictators like Donald Trump.
The only way to bring about fairness and ensure democracy is to make a long term commitment to voting Democratic and never missing an election; there is no such thing as an unimportant election.
Rightwingers put 49 years of effort into getting Roe v. Wade overturned. We need to learn from that and be smart about voting and more active in persuasion over the long haul. Short attention spans are for losers.
Keeping Trump out of power is easy if we are smart and determined. It doesn't matter if pro-democracy Americans are in the majority if we don't vote like a majority.

The Honorable Don Edwards, Chairman
Subcommittee on Civil & Constitutional Rights
Committee on the Judiciary
United States House of Representatives
Washington, D. C. 20515
My dear Mr. Chairman:
I wish to take this opportunity to express my thanks to you for permitting me to testify before your Committee last week on the matter of voting representation in the Congress of the United States. We feel very strongly about this matter and hope that you and your colleagues are successful in getting the necessary votes to have it passed from the House over to the Senate.
During the hearings Counsel for the Committee asked that we supply information on a specific point in my testimony in which I said that the citizens of the District of Columbia pay more Federal taxes than the citizens of 15 other states. Counsel asked which those states were and they are, in descending order, as follows:
District of Columbia    $386,000
Hawaii            $379,000
Rhode Island        $373,000
Utah                $307,000
New Hampshire    $303,000
Delaware            $299,000
New Mexico        $296,000
Maine            $292,000
Nevada            $269,000
Montana            $213,000
Idaho            $197,000
South Dakota        $156,000
Alaska            $150,000
Vermont            $149,000
North Dakota        $149,000
Wyoming            $124,000
Another interesting fact is that there are only 6 states which pay a higher Federal individual income tax per capita than the residents of the District of Columbia. These are:
[page 2]
The Honorable Don Edwards    -2-    September 27, 1977
Connecticut
Florida
Nevada
Delaware
New Jersey
Illinois
I trust that this information is helpful to you in your deliberations.
Sincerely,
Clarence A. Arata [signature]

The American Federal Poverty Line is absolute bullshit and I'm betting part of it is the inclusion of millionaires and billionaires etc in the census. There is no way a single person can live on less than $15k in 2023. Most places charge at least $2k per month for rent. You won't get even a year's worth from that. Add in the fact that I'm pretty sure that $15k is before taxes? No. Fuck you.
You don't give a damn about the people living in your country, the only thing you give a damn about is stuffing your pockets and tyrannical ruling until everything that doesn't fit your outdated ideals is banned again.
First, the overturn of Roe v. Wade, and now, you're blocking debt relief for the people that are only in debt because of *your* system.
This country is absolutely full of bullshit, and I, personally, cannot wait for all of the elitist, misogynist, hypocritical, tyrannical fucktards in charge to be replaced by the youth of this country because THEY actually give a damn.
Fuck out of here with your encroachment on rights. At this point, voting isn't "by the people, for the people," it's pick the lesser of two evils, and half the time, there's no term limit and the fucker won't leave. They've overstayed their welcome, and they need to retire with the mountain of money that they unjustly "earned" by "representing" the American people.
The goal is not to preserve the ideals of the elders. It's to make a better future for the youth and newer generations, and the people on Capital Hill don't seem to give a damn.
Recognize the fact that you don't know everything and times are changing. New ideas and ideals form everyday, and by not letting the youth have a voice, you're keeping everyone stuck in the past. You abuse your power, and you abuse your people.
I liken this country to a crashing airplane. Only we aren't following procedure. If an airplane is going down, you first put the oxygen on yourself, and then help others. Because you can't help others if you don't first help yourself. Our country needs to focus on the problems within our country prior to attempting to help others. Its hypocritical to want them to be better when we can't even get our shit together.
And I'm not saying that those countries we aid don't need support. But I am saying that the state of our nation is rapidly declining, and instead of using our resources to correct that, we are overextending and burning ourselves out.
There are many ways to offer support, and we aren't the only country able to do so. Not that we would know if other countries are helping, because our "news" and media is so biased and skewed that the narrative is controlled in a way that fits political agenda before it fits its actual purpose. Which is disgusting in and of itself.
There need to be term limits for everyone in power.
There need to be more than the two parties represented not only in the actual government, but in the elections. Debates should include ALL candidates, not just republicans and democrats.
There needs to be a complete overhaul of the Healthcare system. No one should struggle to get the care they need, and NO ONE should have to choose between paying their bills and getting medical help. Medical should not cost so much that a person can go bankrupt.
The same goes for education. If you're going to require higher education for the jobs you want fulfilled, then you need to make it more accessible. Many people don't go to college because they can't afford it. Oh, you want us to take out loans? Remind us about the debt relief that
You
Just
Blocked
And ask us again, if we think it's worth it. The current debt relief systems available are ridiculously hard to qualify for, so it's no wonder that the citizens are in debt. Let's not mention the fact that the government is *also* in debt because they keep lending out money they don't *actually* have.
This country is literally the exact thing we fought against in the revolutionary War.
This is taxation without representation.
You don't hear from the lower and middle classes. Everyone in power has the funds to get there. Has the money to do whatever the fuck they want without consequences. And what does that say about our nation, truly?
We have an astronomically high number of homeless.
More people become homeless everyday because of the debt the people in power force upon them.
Politics is not about helping the people in this country. It's about forcing your will and wants upon those who can't stop you.
You love to act as though this country is run perfectly and there aren't any problems. You know why?
Because you're the problem.
Now I'm going to go get off of social media again because this bullshit has ruined my day.
Thanks a lot, America.
Edit: AND FUCK THE FOURTH OF JULY BECAUSE THAT'S CELEBRATING THE INDEPENDENCE WE DON'T HAVE. THATS CELEBRATING THE COUNTRY THAT DOESNT GIVE A FUCK ABOUT US.
now I'm done.

Someone on Twitter said that making teens with jobs pay income tax is literally taxation without representation and I don't know much about the US government but that seemed like a fair criticism to me
So if we're not going to go with the obvious "don't make kids pay taxes route" I'd like to argue with the "anyone that gets a W-2 should also get a voting ballot" route
Because I can guarantee you that I would have begged my mom to let me get a job as soon as I was legally allowed to if it meant I got my own ballot in November which helps whatever capitalistic societal wheel spin because then you've got more people in the workforce contributing to society

Same thing is gradually happening here in Canada too, but don't you go worry, lots of money available for Ukraine. Retirees and the Canadian military would be far better off if they were over there to accept the brimming government largess for that country.
Again, this will be death by a thousand cuts for us little people, the voters, we only vote for politicians, we don't have the money to bribe them, so we're last in the handout lineup.

The stalking started when you helped the little boy grab the stag stuffed animal off a shelf that was too high for him to reach, unaware that his father stood at the end of the aisle.
Or was it maybe when you consoled his son after the little boy dropped his ice cream in the park?
Or when his son scraped his knee on the playground and you comforted him as you patched him up with the first aid kit you always carried around because you were more clumsy than you seemed.
Come to think of it, there were too many memories of this man and his son showing up in your life for you to pinpoint an exact moment.
On the other end of the spectrum Alessandro could remember the very first moment he laid eyes on you, for that was the first moment he felt warmth since the birth of his son 3 years ago.
You were at work behind the bakery counters laughing with your coworker over a stupid joke, your head thrown back slightly and eyes closed lightly as your lips parted to unleash one of the most remarkable laughs he’d heard in his lifetimes.
Just like that he forgot all about getting his son a blueberry muffin and instead started imagining a future with you. That is until the little hand clutching his thumb disappeared as the toddler raced to the patisserie case, pudgy hand squished against the glass as he stared in awe at the chocolate biscotti.
His heart only further constricted watching you interact with his son, going so far as to let the boy sample the biscotti.
It was over for him when his son bounded back over to him with a biscotti crushed in his hand and demanded to take you home for unlimited treats. You laughed when the boy said it but only if you knew where it would end you.
hello again, I am back after four grueling shifts at work :/ meet my first ever oc alessandro, he's a grungy little man but he kinda cute. don't let him hear you say that though, he's doesn't take so kindly to being called small in any regard.
anywhore, I wanna make an introductory post for him but idk how and I don't have the motivation currently to draw a sketch of what he looks like right now :( anyways expect a meet the oc in a few days when I get the confidence to introduce him tho. leave me any requests or such in the little asks box thing, I've got quite a few fandoms I'd like to write for :)
also name recommendations for the son?? I have a theme I wanna follow but its not set in stone ^.^
