Fun fact!
The coronation celebrations today were in part paid for by money that would otherwise have been spent on foodbanks.
Fuck the royals, fuck the lords, and fuck the capitalist state that preserves their power. How long, how long, until the people can be free?

I don’t know about you guys but I actually think it feels great not to support an institution rife with corruption, bullying and incest that glorifies inequality, whitewashes colonialism and covers up for paedophiles.
I enjoy my life a lot more and sleep a lot better knowing I don’t simp for that bullshit and that a bunch of sparkly diamonds and singing priests in tacky clothes aren’t enough to win me over.
Nothing joyless about it at all, honestly. :)

A woman who was arrested yesterday in Edinburgh for holding up a placard that said “fuck imperialism, abolish the monarchy,” has now been charged with a crime. If you got any joy at all out of seeing folk boo the proclamation of Charles Windsor yesterday, please make yourself aware of this, and please get in touch with your MSPs ASAP. This is heinous.

"The will of the people, moreover, practically means, the will of the most numerous or the most active part of the people; the majority, or those who succeed in making themselves accepted as the majority: the people, consequently, may desire to oppress a part of their number; and precautions are as much needed against this, as against any other abuse of power."
John Stuart Mill (1806-1873) English political philosopher.

Seeing a post proposing an abdication of the monarchy in 2066 going around again and like. It's a cute idea and all, but y'all do realise the whole "it's only ceremonial" thing is basically a lie and the monarchy is deeply entrenched in the entire UK political system?
The government is appointed and approved by the monarch (winning the public election is, constitutionally, only advisory)
Our money (the pound sterling) is all technically* only on loan to the Bank of England from the monarch - it is guaranteed by the monarchy
The House of Windsor collectively constitutes the largest landowner in the country
And so on and so on. Saying "the monarchy should just dissolve" of the UK would be like saying "the Supreme Court should just dissolve" of the US - it is a deeply entrenched part of the political infrastructure, and removing it would require a total reconstruction of that infrastructure.
Of course, that's not to say that we shouldn't get rid of it - only that if you are serious about republicanism in the UK, you need to recognise that nothing short of a total reconstruction of our constitutional political infrastructure from the ground up will be sufficient to disentangle and remove the monarchical rot at its core.
*ok so it's a bit more complicated than that but you get the gist.

“Would you rather have President Boris Johnson?”
We already had Prime Minister Boris Johnson. The monarchy did not, and by definition could not, stop an incompetent leader from taking the reigns of power.
In fact, an elected head of state might have been able to sack Boris Johnson when he refused to resign. The monarch is honour bound not to do things like that precisely because they’re unelected and unaccountable.
Yes, sometimes bad leaders take charge. That is not a pretext to withhold democracy. The United States didn’t tell the electorate they weren’t allowed to pick the head of state any more because they picked Trump in the past. We will pick a bad president at some point. That’s democracy. The monarchy is not an adequate response to that.
It is perfectly possible to have an elected head of state with even less power than the monarch. The President of Ireland has less power than King Charles, but he’s still elected directly, democratically and with majority approval, he is still bound by term limits, and his wealth and prestige extend only to him, not his entire extended family of inbred, born-to-rule, privileged brats.

Alarming how often you see pro-monarchists trot out references to “President Blair” as though it were an argument. You can’t be shocked to find monarchists “stuck in the past”, but Tony Blair hasn’t been PM since 2007. It’s been 16 years. Let him go.

Monarchy considers man in his ties with society; a republic considers man independently of his relations to society.
- Louis de Bonald
The only flag that is inclusive enough to include everyone equally irrespective of race, creed, or sexual orientation. And even republicans.

Viral Celtic coronation chant raises £15,000 for Glasgow food bank
“Supporters took a stand against King Charles III's coronation with the chant: ‘You can shove your Coronation up your a***.’ Their vocal protest could be heard when the Parkhead side took on Rangers in the Scottish Cup semi-final last month.
“The clip, taken by Celts Are Here, appeared on BBC’s Have I Got News For You on Friday ... After being rewarded £200 from the BBC for the clip, Celts Are Here decided to use the money to start a JustGiving page for local Glasgow NE Foodbank.
“A Celts Are Here spokesperson told the Glasgow Times: ‘It’s been a collective effort ... Our clip of the Celtic fans singing their displeasure at the Coronation has really struck a chord and opened a debate about celebrating and publicly funding the already vastly wealthy royal family. We thought it was only right that the fee we received from BBC’s Have I Got News For You went to help those experiencing extreme hardship during an unprecedented cost-of-living crisis.’”
