Leica 90mm f/2.8
90mm on a Leica rangefinder camera is kind of a strange lens. I love the compression and over all look of the focal length, but the box in the rangefinder of most Leica bodies makes using the lens a little more difficult then shorter lenses. The box in the rangefinder for 90mm is kind of small on the M3 and even smaller on any other Leica. I love the lens, but using is a strange experience…

Let’s check out the Leica camera she is merching….oh yes, that is what she is doing….
Why Leica Cameras Are So Expensive
Leicas are known for their high cost, but this is not solely due to their luxury brand image. The Leica M line of cameras and lenses, in particular, are known for their high cost.
The main reason for the high cost of Leica cameras and lenses is the quality and craftsmanship that goes into their production.
Components
One of the main reasons for this is that Leicas are handcrafted. Every single component of the camera, from the screws to the motherboard, is assembled by hand by skilled workers. This process is time-consuming and requires considerable skill, which is what makes Leica cameras worth the high cost. It’s the difference between buying a mass-produced piece of furniture book and getting a hand-carved one.
Made In Germany
Another reason for the high cost of Leicas is that they are only made in one place: Germany. Unlike other camera companies that have factories in multiple countries, Leica centralizes its production in Germany, which adds to the cost. Additionally, Leicas are not mass-produced and are made in small batches, which affects supply and demand, driving up the cost.
Long-Lasting
Leicas are also known for their longevity, both in terms of the shelf life of the camera and the lifetime of their lenses. Leica cameras are built to last, and many photographers have held onto their Leica lenses for decades. This durability and longevity make the initial high cost more attractive in the long run.
Lastly, Leicas are built to be durable, both in the lenses and the camera body. They are made with durable metal, which makes them resistant to wear and tear. This, combined with handcrafted workmanship, centralized production, longevity, and supply and demand, all contribute to the high cost of Leicas.
And…she can keep her story going about having children….her world is cracking around her…..

Photograph by Jewish photographer Alfred Eisenstaedt of Nazi Propaganda Minister
scowling, seconds after Goebbels supposedly learned of Eisenstaedt's 'true identity'
Alfred Eisenstaedt (December 6, 1898 – August 23, 1995) was a German-born American photographer and photojournalist. He began his career in Germany prior to World War II but achieved prominence as a staff photographer for Life magazine after moving to the U.S. Life featured more than 90 of his pictures on its covers, and more than 2,500 of his photo stories were published.
Among his most famous cover photographs was V-J Day in Times Square, taken during the V-J Day celebration in New York City, showing an American sailor kissing a nurse in a "dancelike dip" which "summed up the euphoria many Americans felt as the war came to a close", in the words of his obituary. He was "renowned for his ability to capture memorable images of important people in the news" and for his candid photographs taken with a small 35mm Leica camera, typically with natural lighting.

Hey!  It’s been a while.
A lot has happened in the past few months- I had a new book come out, and have another in the works-  but maybe the most exciting thing was in October when Leica Camera generously brought me to their headquarters in Wetzlar, Germany to participate in their annual Celebration of Photography and help with the rerelease of the M6 .  (More info on that HERE.)
My time in Wetzlar was four days of non-stop love for cameras, photography, and the chance to meet some incredibly interesting, passionate people. I’m still trying to process it all.  You might have seen the stuff from that Leica week I’ve posted on my Instagram account, but I am looking forward to sharing more here (and there) soon.
None of this stuff was ever planned- I just keep doing what I like and am happy that it’s resonated so well with so many people. Your support is appreciated more than you’ll ever know.
Thank you.

Wang Yibo and the secret of his Leica M11 Monochrom
The last few days have been really exciting for all Wang Yibo fans. In addition to a completely new hairstyle and successful participation in Paris Fashion Week, we were able to admire Yibo taking photos on the street of Paris. And what an extraordinary equipment appeared in his hand!
What are the secrets of Yibo's camera?
Leica camera shows up unexpectedly
When Yibo posted a photo of the full moon during the Mid-Autumn Festival last week, we were all delighted. A beautiful black and white photo with the Double Moon effect looked so professional!
Tumblr media
That day in their post Yibo Official called Yibo a "little photographer", which further fueled curiosity.
And indeed! Thanks to the trip to Paris, we discovered that our Yibo is the happy owner of a wonderful Leica M11 Monochrom! Yibo with his camera was even captured on official photos.

Leica – famous cameras for famous people
Leica is a very old and well-known brand. The company was founded by Ernst Leitz in 1869, in Germany and the first camera prototypes began to be created at the beginning of the 20th century (the first Leica camera dates back to 1913). Since then, Leica cameras have become synonymous with quality and prestige and are eagerly used by photographers around the world. These cameras are also an absolute hit among actors, musicians and celebrities!
Is there something unusual about Yibo choosing this particular camera’s brand? Absolutely not! On the contrary - he joined a distinguished group of owners of the world-famous camera, which also includes Elvis Presley, Pablo Picasso, Queen Elizabeth II, Christian Bale, Cindy Crawford, Eric Clapton, Julia Roberts, Katy Perry, Stanley Kubrick etc. What great company!
The premiere of the model Yibo owns, Leica M11 Monochrom, took place in April this year, so it is a completely new model!
Chinese Leica stores have already boasted that Wang Yibo chose their brand!

Yibo and Leica - more connections
Well, it turned out that last year Xiaomi, with which Yibo has business contacts (he is their Redmi's Global Spokesperson), joined forces with the company Leica. Thanks to this cooperation, last year's Xiaomi 12S Ultra model was created and, more importantly, this year's new Xiaomi 13/13 Pro model equipped with a high-class Leica lens. The latter premiered in spring this year.

Photographer Yibo and his secrets
We are all probably curious about the origins of Yibo's Leica camera. Did Yibo decide to buy this particular camera himself, or did someone recommend it to him? Or maybe he received it as a gift from someone? As a token of gratitude for cooperation from Xiaomi? Or maybe from Leica, as a sign of appreciation?
However, let it all remain Yibo's sweet secret!
Instead, let's admire the effects of the work of this wonderful camera and the extremely talented "little photographer". I hope we will see many more beautiful photos in the future!

Mercury In Retrograde
One of my Favorite film cameras is the Mercury II. It's a half-frame camera from the 40's that was supposed to be the American rival to Contaxes and Leicas since we were having... second thoughts about doing business with Germany, and even Japan. Even though I'd adapted this lens to my Fuji X-E2 before, I'd never thrown it on my Sony A7ii.
Tumblr media
Here are some shots!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I figured I'd be able to use the APS-C mode in the menu, which just punches into the sensor, since half-frame is about the same size as APS-C anyway.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Overall, I'm pretty astonished by this lens' performance. It handles color and contrast well, and definitely has a vintage focus fall-off in the corners, which is common for three-element lenses like this one. The Bokeh looks good, and sharpness are on point!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So not bad for APS-C  crop, right?
I've been withholding something. These are all shot full frame. Turns out this tiny lens covers the sensor at wider apertures with just a vignette. Stopped down, the corners fall out. Here's f/2.7 compared to f/8.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Not bad for a lens the size of a quarter!

Isabelle Wenzel
Isabelle Wenzel (b. 1982, Germany) studied to be a photographer/artist, but is also a trained acrobat. Usually, she sets her own body before the camera. Within the seconds that the self-timer allows her, she assumes an impossible position and continues to hold it until the camera has clicked.
The central focus of the photographs of Isabelle Wenzel is the body as a physical form, rather than people themselves. By making a photograph, she freezes a pose in time as it were, and in doing so draws attention to the sculptural qualities of the body. In order to achieve a certain image, the manoeuvres need to be carried out repeatedly. In this way, Wenzel does her own little experimental performance in front of the camera, which captures it for us in ‘frozen form as a photograph.
Artist statement:
I stretched forward. Felt sensations of heaviness. Was overwhelmed by choice. Got lost. Stumbled. Failed. Started again. I’m a space in the landscape. A geological formation. A botanical shape. An island of isolation.  A thinking body. Look at me in slow motion. Look at me frozen in time.
Isabelle Wenzel
