Lemon! I don't know if you listened to/listen to Clairo (she can be guilty of whisper singing), but her latest album is produced by Leon Michels and he used to work with Sharon Jones and Charles Bradley! You might find something your speed, my personal favorite is Add Up My Love :)

Hello Ada!!!! Yessss! I must confess I haven’t listened to the whole album, but I’ve heard a lot of the tracks on my favorite nightly radio shows!!! I did know it was produced by Leon Michels of the El Michels Affair but I don’t know that I realized he worked with Sharon and Charles!!!! Amazing!!! Thank you for letting me know!!

I do have the album downloaded, I just need to sit down and listen to it.

I think Add Up My Love is my favorite track that I’ve heard so far too 💛💛💛

Yoo!! I totally forgot this recently dropped. Just came across my Apple Music feed right now. I’m mad I missed El Michels Affair, the stellar soul band out of NYC led by Leon Michels.

Pairing with Black Thought is sure to be some classic shit as I am just diving into the album now. Ch-check it!

Liam Bailey's Mercy Tree Challenges Bigotry

Liam Bailey's "Mercy Tree" willfully calls out racism in the true spirit of resistance reggae. Bailey, who spent his childhood in Nottingham, England, tapped into his memories of "all the cliche racism that happens when people started mixing up in the '80s in England" to write "Mercy Tree." The stately horns, Bailey's voice, and the foot-stomping drum are fused together into a modern-day protest song. Leon Michels of the El Michels Affair produced the single that demands equality and reparations. "Mercy Tree" is the third single from Bailey's forthcoming Zero Grace album, which is scheduled to arrive in February.  "Mercy Tree" is the third single from the album and an example of the kind of honesty the album title suggests. Bailey is singing with pure intention and no apologies for his truth. "Mercy Tree" should go down as one of reggae's rebel classics.

Le producteur et musicien Leon Michels et le MC de The Roots s'associent pour un duo au sommet de hip hop et de soul cinématographique comme en témoigne le premier titre "Grateful".

C'est en duo que le MC de Philadelphie s'est illustré ces derniers mois avec l'excellent album Cheat Codes cosigné par le producteur Danger Mouse et avec le EP militant African Dreams enregistré avec l'artiste nigérian Seun Kuti. Une formule qui permet à Black Thought d'explorer de nouveaux horizons et qu'il a décidé de prolonger cette année en s’associant au groupe El Michels Affair du magicien soul new-yorkais Leon Michels. Si les deux artistes avaient déjà collaboré l'an dernier sur le titre dub Conquer & Divide de l’album Ekundayo Inversions par El Michels Affair meets Liam Bailey, ils signent cette fois le long format Glorious Game attendu en avril prochain sur le label de Michels, Big Crown Records.

Maître es groove de Brooklyn, le producteur et multi-instrumentiste Leon Michels a longtemps accompagné Sharon Jones puis Charles Bradley avec le supergroupe soul Menahan Street Band qu'il a cofondé. Mais c'est avec son groupe El Michels Affair qu'il a pu laisser vagabonder son imaginaire dans des productions soul cinématographiques et atmosphériques aux textures sonores venues des quatre coins de la planète.

Des paysages sonores multiples et extravagants qu'il a mis avec ses musiciens au service du flow incisif du rappeur de The Roots sur les treize compositions de Glorious Game. Sur le premier titre Grateful, les beats et les samples menaçants associés à une flûte hypnotique alimentent les rimes sombres de Black Thought. Enregistré dans le Queens au studio Diamond Mind, l'album bénéficie de quelques invités comme Son Little ou Lady Wray.
