Understanding Liver Disease Causes, Symptoms, and Treatments in Bangalore
Liver is an important organ among many involved in providing many vital functions in the body such as detoxification, metabolism and nutrient storage. Nevertheless, several conditions can induce liver disease, therefore it no longer executes all its vital functions. Living in Bangalore and caring about your liver health means that you need to know the reasons, manifestation signs, and existing treatments for the liver diseases.
Understanding Liver Disease:
Liver disorders present a broad spectrum of conditions that damage the liver parenchyma and its capacity. Hepatitis, fatty liver disease, cirrhosis, and liver cancer are the most known liver diseases. Such conditions can be caused by viral infections, alcohol abuse, obesity, autoimmune disorders, genetic factors, and exposure to toxins and medications to begin with.
Tumblr media
Causes of Liver Disease:
Viral Hepatitis: Hepatitis viruses, including hepatitis A, B, and C, can cause inflammation and damage to the liver. These viruses are typically transmitted through contaminated food or water (hepatitis A), blood or bodily fluids (hepatitis B and C), or sexual contact.
Alcohol Abuse: Excessive alcohol consumption over time can lead to alcoholic liver disease, characterized by inflammation, fatty deposits, and scarring of the liver (cirrhosis). Alcohol-related liver disease is a significant cause of liver-related morbidity and mortality worldwide.
Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD): Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease is a condition characterized by the accumulation of fat in the liver, not caused by excessive alcohol consumption. Risk factors for Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease include obesity, diabetes, high cholesterol, and metabolic syndrome.
Autoimmune Liver Diseases: Conditions such as autoimmune hepatitis, primary biliary cholangitis, and primary sclerosing cholangitis occur when the body's immune system mistakenly attacks the liver, leading to inflammation and damage.
Genetic Disorders: Inherited liver diseases, such as hemochromatosis, Wilson's disease, and alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency, can affect liver function and lead to complications if left untreated.
Tumblr media
Symptoms of Liver Disease:
The symptoms of liver disease can vary depending on the underlying cause and severity of the condition.
Tumblr media
Common symptoms may include:
Fatigue
Jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes)
Abdominal pain or swelling
Nausea and vomiting
Loss of appetite
Unexplained weight loss
Dark urine
Pale-colored stools
Easy bruising or bleeding
Swelling in the legs and ankles (edema)
Mental confusion or cognitive impairment
Seeking Treatment in Bangalore:
Fortunately, Bangalore boasts world-class healthcare facilities and a network of experienced hepatologists and gastroenterologists specializing in liver disease diagnosis and management. If you're experiencing symptoms of liver disease or have concerns about your liver health, seeking prompt medical attention is crucial.
Diagnostic Tests:
Upon consultation with a healthcare provider, diagnostic tests may be performed to evaluate liver function and identify the underlying cause of liver disease. These tests may include blood tests to assess liver enzyme levels, imaging studies such as ultrasound or MRI, and liver biopsy for tissue analysis.
Treatment Options:
Lifestyle Modifications: For certain liver diseases, lifestyle changes such as abstaining from alcohol, adopting a healthy diet, maintaining a healthy weight, and exercising regularly can help slow disease progression and improve liver health.
Medications: Depending on the underlying cause of liver disease, medications may be prescribed to manage symptoms, reduce inflammation, or treat underlying infections. In the case of viral hepatitis, antiviral medications may be used to suppress viral replication and prevent liver damage.
Liver Transplantation: In advanced cases of liver disease, such as end-stage liver failure or liver cancer, liver transplantation may be considered as a life-saving treatment option. Bangalore is home to reputable transplant centers offering state-of-the-art surgical procedures and post-transplant care.
Supportive Therapies: Additional supportive therapies, such as nutritional counseling, vitamin supplementation, and management of complications like ascites or hepatic encephalopathy, may be recommended to improve quality of life and overall well-being.
Empowering Patients Through Education and Support:
Living with liver disease can be challenging, but patients in Bangalore have access to a supportive network of healthcare professionals, patient advocacy groups, and educational resources. These resources can provide valuable information, emotional support, and practical guidance to help patients navigate their liver disease journey with confidence and resilience.
Diagnosed with liver disease treatment in Bangalore will be easily accessible, due to the city's advanced infrastructure for healthcare and highly skilled personnel. First and foremost, your liver health matters, and with appropriate care and support, it is possible to take back your life and enhance your general well-being.
So for the sake of studies, these details are for educational purposes only. If you have to get engagements about diagnoses and surgeries, you can speak first at the hospitals or the clinics by yourself from specialists.

Laparoscopic Gallbladder Stone Surgery in Bangalore: A Modern Approach to Pain Relief
Introduction
Gallbladder stones, also known as gallstones, can cause severe pain and complications if left untreated. For those suffering from this condition, laparoscopic gallbladder stone surgery offers a minimally invasive and highly effective solution. In this blog, we'll explore what laparoscopic surgery entails, its benefits, and why Hospital Patient-help in Bangalore is your best choice for this procedure.
Understanding Gallbladder Stones
Gallbladder stones are solid particles that form in the gallbladder, a small organ located beneath the liver. These stones can vary in size and cause blockages, leading to intense pain, inflammation, and even infection. Symptoms of gallstones include:
Sudden and severe abdominal pain
Nausea and vomiting
Indigestion and bloating
Jaundice in severe cases
When these symptoms occur, it's essential to seek medical attention promptly.
What is Laparoscopic Gallbladder Stone Surgery?
Laparoscopic gallbladder stone surgery, also known as laparoscopic cholecystectomy, is a modern surgical procedure used to remove the gallbladder. Unlike traditional open surgery, which requires a large incision, laparoscopic surgery involves making small incisions through which a laparoscope (a thin tube with a camera) and surgical instruments are inserted.
This minimally invasive approach allows the surgeon to view the gallbladder on a screen and perform the surgery with precision. The entire procedure typically takes about 1-2 hours and is performed under general anesthesia.
Benefits of Laparoscopic Gallbladder Stone Surgery
Laparoscopic surgery has become the gold standard for gallbladder removal due to its numerous advantages:
Minimal Scarring: The small incisions result in minimal scarring, enhancing the aesthetic outcome.
Reduced Pain: Patients experience less postoperative pain compared to open surgery.
Quick Recovery: Most patients can return to their normal activities within a week, making it a preferred option for those with busy lifestyles.
Shorter Hospital Stay: Laparoscopic surgery usually requires only a day or two of hospitalization, allowing patients to recover at home.
Lower Risk of Complications: The precision of the laparoscopic technique reduces the risk of complications such as infections and bleeding.

In recent times, the incorporation of CA 125 into comprehensive full-body health examinations has gained popularity as part of a proactive approach to monitoring overall well-being. While CA 125 is well-known for its association with ovarian cancer, its inclusion in broader health assessments extends its usefulness beyond specific cancer screenings.
1. Early Detection of Gynecological Cancers: One of the primary advantages of integrating CA 125 into full-body health checkups is the potential for early identification of gynecological cancers. Elevated CA 125 levels may not only suggest ovarian cancer but also act as an alert for other gynecological malignancies like endometrial or fallopian tube cancers. This holistic approach enhances the likelihood of detecting these cancers in their early stages, enabling timely intervention and improving treatment outcomes.
2. Monitoring Reproductive Health: Beyond cancer detection, CA 125 plays a role in monitoring reproductive health. For women facing conditions such as endometriosis or pelvic inflammatory disease, heightened CA 125 levels could offer valuable insights into the health of reproductive organs. Regular inclusion of CA 125 in health checkups enables a more comprehensive assessment of reproductive well-being, aiding in the early identification of reproductive health issues.
3. Indirect Indications of Inflammation and Other Conditions: CA 125 is not exclusive to gynecological concerns; its elevation can also be linked to inflammatory conditions and other noncancerous health issues. Including CA 125 in full-body health checkups provides a broader perspective on inflammation within the body, potentially indicating underlying health conditions such as liver disease or inflammatory disorders. This indirect insight enhances the diagnostic value of a full-body health assessment.
4. Holistic Approach to Cancer Prevention: Comprehensive health checkups aim to offer a holistic view of an individual's health, and the inclusion of CA 125 aligns with this goal. By monitoring CA 125 levels alongside other health parameters, healthcare professionals can adopt a holistic approach to cancer prevention. Identifying potential risk factors early allows for tailored preventive measures, such as lifestyle modifications and targeted screenings, contributing to an individualized healthcare strategy.
5. Psychological Well-being and Patient Empowerment: The incorporation of CA 125 in full-body health checkups not only serves clinical purposes but also contributes to psychological well-being. For individuals with a family history of ovarian cancer or other gynecological conditions, the regular monitoring of CA 125 levels provides a sense of empowerment and control over their health. Knowledge and early detection empower individuals to actively engage in their healthcare journey.
6. Collaborative Care and Informed Decision-Making: Collaboration between patients and healthcare providers is crucial for effective healthcare. Including CA 125 in full-body health checkups fosters a collaborative approach to care. Informed decision-making becomes possible as patients and healthcare professionals work together to interpret CA 125 results in the context of overall health, allowing for more personalized and targeted healthcare interventions.
7. Research and Advancements: The integration of CA 125 into full-body health checkups contributes to ongoing research and advancements in the field. The data collected from these comprehensive assessments, including CA 125 levels, can inform research on the interplay between biomarkers, overall health, and specific conditions. This continuous feedback loop supports the evolution of healthcare practices and diagnostic strategies.
There are many good hospitals in Bangalore that offer health checkup packages for females and include CA 125 test, such as a full body health checkup at Manipal Hospital Sarjapur Road in Bangalore.

8 Signs you could be suffering from Kidney Disease
Tumblr media
When it comes to discussing the vital organs that constitute our body, the first couple of names that immediately come up to our mind are the heart, lungs or brain. However, most of us ignore another crucial organ that plays a big role in our existence too and that is our Kidneys.
According to urologists associated with United Hospital, the best Multispeciality hospital in Bangalore, understanding in detail about our kidneys, how they function and what are the warning signs that may indicate that all is not well with them, is equally very important too.
Understanding your Kidney
Your kidneys are tiny, bean-shaped organs situated towards the back of your upper abdominal cavity. Though tiny in size, they perform one of the most crucial activities in filtering extra water and waste products out of your body in the form of urine.
Kidneys are extremely strong and efficient. However, according to vastly experienced urologists associated with United Hospital rated as the best Kidney Hospital in Bangalore, they’re also vulnerable and susceptible to damage — particularly due to uncontrolled diabetes, high blood pressure, or some other condition that impairs kidney function.
If not taken proper care of, over a period of time your kidneys can be subjected to serious damage and lead to life-threatening conditions. Hence, renowned urology doctors in Bangalore working at United Hospital, known for the best kidney treatment in Bangalore, recommend a periodic kidney function test to know where you stand with respect to the condition of your kidneys and also are aware of any hitherto unknown danger signs of kidney malfunction.
8 signs which can indicate a kidney malfunction
Loss of energy Experienced doctors working with United Hospital, the best Super-speciality hospital in Bangalore, are of the opinion that with the decline in kidney functioning, toxic and other impurities can easily build up leaving you tired and fatigued.
Feel an itching sensation in your skin Best urologists in Bangalore associated with United Hospital observe that your kidneys play a vital role in maintaining the right balance of minerals in the blood. When this does not happen, it can cause dry and itching skin that could very well ring alarm bells for possible chronic kidney disease.
Frequent urge to urinate Experienced Uro doctors operating at United Hospital regarded by many as the best hospital in Bangalore, share evidence of a direct link between the frequent urge to urinate and kidney disease. Not just a Urinary Tract infection as many of us would conclude but it could be a bit more serious than that.
Observing blood in the urine Though blood in your urine can be caused due by various reasons, urology specialists in Bangalore correlate this symptom with bladder cancer and CKD.
Frothy Urine Doctors working with United Hospital, the best hospital for kidney care in Bangalore caution that if you notice excessive amounts of bubbles, froth, or foam in the urine, it could be the first sign of kidney disease as damaged kidneys are more likely to let some protein escape through your urine.
Puffy Eyes What have our eyes got to do with a kidney problem!! While most of us may ponder over this question, urologists think otherwise. According to them, if your kidneys are allowing large amounts of protein to escape through your urine, you may also begin to experience persistent puffiness around your eyes.
Inflammation noticed in feet/ankle This condition can very much signal a kidney disorder apart from being a symptom of heart or liver disease. Persistent swelling in the feet should never be ignored and an immediate medical opinion is crucial.
Frequent muscle cramps Most of the minerals in our body function as electrolytes. If there is an imbalance in the functioning of these electrolytes, it can lead to chronic kidney disease.

Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy Surgeon in HSR Layout, Bangalore| Dr. Manas tripathy
Tumblr media
Gallstones are small stones that develop in the gall bladder. The condition is quite common and is also genetic in many cases. The chances of developing gall bladders increase with age. People who eat a fat-rich diet are particularly susceptible to it. The ailment can cause severe symptoms; the most common is returning attacks of shooting abdominal pain
Treatment
Gallstones can be dissolved or disintegrated into tiny pieces but these treatments involve the use of drugs with possible side effects. Besides, there is a high rate of failure. In many cases, the gallstones form again. Antibiotics can heal infections of the gall bladder due to the stones. A low-fat diet can also help in preventing pain. However, alleviation of symptoms is temporary.
Surgery
Laparoscopic surgery for gallstones or cholecystectomy is a procedure, in which the gall bladder (and gallstones) is removed. After making incisions in the abdomen, the surgeon will inflate the abdomen with carbon dioxide, in order to see the interior more clearly. The surgeon then inserts a telescope, which is attached to a video camera. This will guide him (through a video monitor) while inserting more surgical instruments in the other incisions in order to remove the gall bladder. Before removing the bladder, the surgeon may take a special x-ray (intraoperative cholangiography) to see the locations of the bile ducts inside the liver.
After surgery, the bile will flow from the liver into the small intestine through the common bile duct. Since the gallbladder has been removed, the body will no longer be able to store bile between meals. This has little or absolutely no effect on the process of digestion in the majority of people.
Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is performed under general anesthesia and lasts for 45 minutes to an hour.
Complications
There may be some complications as with most surgeries. In a few laparoscopic cholecystectomies, the surgeon may switch to open surgery, if a larger incision is required. These can cause additional complications like scars, inflammation, and bleeding. More serious complications may include:
Development of a hernia at the surgery site Injuries to nearby abdominal structures Surgical emphysema Leaking of bile or leftover stones Chronic pain Diarrhea Bowel injury Damage to the liver
Recovery
Patients are generally discharged the following day. Convalescence may take between two to four weeks depending on the extent of surgery and your type of occupation. Check with the surgeon before the operation about how much you can exercise. For the first few days, increasing how much you walk is recommended. You can expect a full recovery and be able to eat normally during recovery.

Cholecystitis or gall baldder swelling treatment requires a hospital stay to control gallbladder inflammation. The following treatments are provided to control the inflammation:
Fasting: It enables taking the stress off the gallbladder.
Intravenous fluids: Fluids are injected through a vein in the arm to prevent dehydration.
Antibiotics: They help in treating gallbladder infections.
Pain-relieving medications: These medicines help in controlling pain until gallbladder inflammation subsides.
Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP): This procedure involves the use of a dye to highlight the bile ducts and then the use of instruments to remove the gallstones that block the bile duct or cystic duct.
Drainage of the gallbladder: Cholecystostomy or gallbladder drainage may help in removing the infection. This may be done by passing a tube (endoscope) through the mouth or the abdominal skin (percutaneous).
Gallbladder removal surgery or cholecystectomy: The gallbladder may be removed by either making a large incision in the abdominal area (open technique) or through many tiny incisions made in the abdomen (laparoscopic technique). Once the gallbladder is removed, the bole flows directly from the liver into the small intestine, instead of being stored in the gallbladder.
There are many hospitals in Bangalore where gall bladder surgery is done with great success.

Ayurvedic Skin Psoriasis Treatment
Ayurvedic Skin Psoriasis Treatment
Skin-psoriasis ayurvedic treatment involves the use of a natural remedy to alleviate the condition. Ayurveda is a traditional Indian system of medicine which can cure many conditions, including skin psoriasis.
Tumblr media
Seborrheic dermatitis, a skin condition that causes dry, flaking skin, can be treated using Ayurvedic methods. It is a common ailment and is believed to be caused by excess sebaceous secretions, which clog pores and lead to inflammation. In some cases, it can mimic eczema or dandruff.
Ayurvedic cure for psoriasis for seborrheic psoriasis includes a number of herbal remedies. Some of these include aloe vera, turmeric, ghee, and olive oil. These are taken as dietary supplements, or applied topically to the affected areas. The effectiveness of these supplements depends on the severity of the disease.
An important factor in any psoriasis treatment is a balanced diet. Psoriasis symptoms may be eased by eating lots of healthy foods, such as green vegetables and fruits. Ayurvedic physicians recommend that patients avoid certain foods, such as those that are spicy, fermented, or cold.
Another important factor in ayurvedic psoriasis treatment is stress management. Meditation is a good way to reduce stress-related psoriasis flare-ups.
To treat psoriasis, doctors can prescribe injectable medications, such as methotrexate, which are effective in blocking the signal from immune cells that cause inflammation. However, these drugs can be uncomfortable, and can carry a risk of side effects.
Another type of Psoriasis treatment in bangalore is Panchakarma therapy, which involves cleansing the body. Ayurveda experts believe that the disease is caused by imbalances in the doshas. If this is not corrected, it can lead to permanent joint damage.
Psoriasis is a chronic condition that can develop on skin. The disease is marked by red, scaly patches that can sometimes be painful. There are many causes of psoriasis. It may result from stress, infection, trauma, or internal system problems.
Ayurvedic treatment for psoriasis can involve herbal medicines, yoga, and meditation. It also involves changes in diet and lifestyle. In addition, patients should learn to listen to their bodies.
To prevent flare-ups, an ayurvedic doctor can identify the triggers of psoriasis. For example, excessive physical activity can lead to a flare-up. Using natural soothing oils such as olive oil, coconut oil, or jojoba can reduce the symptoms of psoriasis.
When treating psoriasis, ayurvedic practitioners recommend that patients avoid unwholesome dietary habits and stress. They also recommend taking regular baths to help keep the body's skin clean.
Ayurvedic psoriasis treatments involve the use of purgatives and herbs that are known to clear the liver and colon of toxins. This helps restore dosha balance and prevent further occurrences of psoriasis.
Virechana therapy is also used in psoriasis treatment. These purgatives are combined with herbs such as ginger and turmeric. These herbs are effective at reducing inflammation, clearing the liver, and boosting immunity.
Some studies have suggested that a specialized ayurvedic diet can improve psoriasis symptoms. Such a diet may include ghee, turmeric, and other Ayurvedic compounds.
Prevention of future health issues
If you are suffering from psoriasis, you can prevent future health problems by using Ayurveda treatments. This ancient medicine focuses on treating the body as a whole. It involves herbal medicines, lifestyle changes and detoxification.
Ayurvedic doctors can help you identify psoriasis's trigger factors and prescribe a treatment. Using Ayurveda medicines, meditation and yoga can help you reduce the frequency of flare-ups. You can also improve your overall well-being.
Psoriasis is a chronic skin condition characterized by red and scaly patches. In some cases, it can lead to painful swelling in joints. Stress can also aggravate the condition.
Ayurveda practitioners believe that psoriasis is caused by imbalances in the vata and kapha doshas. By restoring the balance of these doshas, they can provide relief for the symptoms of psoriasis. The patient in this study sought Ayurvedic treatment after three years of allopathic treatment.
Psoriasis is an auto-immune disease that causes inflammation in the skin. Extra skin cells are produced and clog pores. Over the course of a few days, the new cells form a thick, rough surface known as plaques. These plaques can be painful and itchy.
The main causes of psoriasis are bad dietary habits and unhealthful lifestyles. Avoid sour, heavy, salty, and acidic foods. Excessive exercise during high-energy activities can also aggravate the disease.

Choose centers that are easily accessible by public transportation and offer convenient scheduling options for consultations, tests, and procedures. Additionally, consider the cost of treatment, transplant surgery, and post-transplant care, including insurance coverage, financial assistance programs, and payment plans available at the center.
Patient Testimonials and Referrals: Seek patient testimonials, referrals, and feedback about liver failure treatment and transplant surgery centers in Bangalore from previous patients and their families. Personal experiences and recommendations provide valuable insights into the quality of care, patient experience, and satisfaction levels at the center. Online reviews, social media platforms, and patient advocacy groups are useful resources for gathering feedback and recommendations.

Hematuria (Blood in the Urine)
Tumblr media
What is hematuria?
Hematuria is the presence of blood in a person’s urine. The two types of hematuria are
gross hematuria—when a person can see the blood in his or her urine
microscopic hematuria—when a person cannot see the blood in his or her urine, yet it is seen under a microscope
urology hospital in bangalore
What is the urinary tract?
The urinary tract is the body’s drainage system for removing wastes and extra fluid. The urinary tract includes
two kidneys
two ureters
the bladder
the urethra
The kidneys are two bean-shaped organs, each about the size of a fist. They are located just below the rib cage, one on each side of the spine. Every day, the kidneys filter about 120 to 150 quarts of blood to produce about 1 to 2 quarts of urine, composed of wastes and extra fluid. Children produce less urine than adults. The urine flows from the kidneys to the bladder through tubes called ureters. The bladder stores urine until releasing it through urination. When the bladder empties, urine flows out of the body through a tube called the urethra at the bottom of the bladder.
What causes hematuria?
Reasons people may have blood in the urine include
infection in the bladder, kidney, or prostate
trauma
vigorous exercise
viral illness, such as hepatitis—a virus that causes liver disease and inflammation of the liver
sexual activity
menstruation
endometriosis—a problem in women that occurs when the kind of tissue that normally lines the uterus grows somewhere else, such as the bladder
More serious reasons people may have hematuria include
bladder or kidney cancer
inflammation of the kidney, urethra, bladder, or prostate—a walnut-shaped gland in men that surrounds the urethra and helps make semen
blood-clotting disorders, such as hemophilia
sickle cell disease—a genetic disorder in which a person’s body makes abnormally shaped red blood cells
polycystic kidney disease—a genetic disorder in which many cysts grow on a person’s kidneys
Who is more likely to develop hematuria?
People who are more likely to develop hematuria may
have an enlarged prostate
have urinary stones
take certain medications, including blood thinners, aspirin and other pain relievers, and antibiotics
do strenuous exercise, such as long-distance running
have a bacterial or viral infection, such as streptococcus or hepatitis
have a family history of kidney disease
have a disease or condition that affects one or more organs
What are the symptoms of hematuria?
People with gross hematuria have urine that is pink, red, or brown. Even a small amount of blood in the urine can cause urine to change color. In most cases, people with gross hematuria do not have other signs and symptoms. People with gross hematuria that includes blood clots in the urine may have bladder pain or pain in the back.
How is hematuria diagnosed?
A health care professional diagnoses hematuria or the cause of the hematuria with
a medical history
a physical exam
urinalysis
additional testing
Medical History
Taking a medical history may help a health care professional diagnose the cause of hematuria. He or she will ask the patient to provide a medical history, a review of symptoms, and a list of prescription and over-the-counter medications. The health care professional will also ask about current and past medical conditions.
Physical Exam
During a physical exam, a  Urologist professional most often taps on the abdomen and back, checking for pain or tenderness in the bladder and kidney area. A Urologist professional may perform a digital rectal exam on a man to look for any prostate problems. A  urologist in bangalore may perform a pelvic exam on a woman to look for the source of possible red blood cells in the urine.
Digital rectal exam. A digital rectal exam is a physical exam of a man’s prostate and rectum. To perform the exam, the health care professional has the man bend over a table or lie on his side while holding his knees close to his chest. The health care professional slides a gloved, lubricated finger into the patient’s rectum and feels the part of the prostate that lies in front of the rectum. The digital rectal exam is used to check for prostate inflammation, an enlarged prostate, or prostate cancer.
Pelvic exam. A pelvic exam is a visual and physical exam of a woman’s pelvic organs. The health care professional has the woman lie on her back on an exam table and place her feet on the corners of the table or in supports. The health care professional looks at the pelvic organs and slides a gloved, lubricated finger into the vagina to check for problems that may be causing blood in the urine.
Urinalysis
The health care professional can test the urine in the office using a dipstick or can send it out to a lab for analysis. Sometimes urine tests using a dipstick can be positive even though the patient has no blood in the urine, which results in a “false-positive” test. The health care professional may look for red blood cells by examining the urine under a microscope before ordering further tests.
Prior to obtaining a urine sample, the health care professional may ask a woman when she last menstruated. Sometimes blood from a woman’s menstrual period can get into her urine sample and can result in a false-positive test for hematuria. The test should be repeated after the woman stops menstruating.
Additional Testing
Sometimes, a health care professional will test the patient’s urine again. If the urine samples detect too many red blood cells, a health care professional may order additional tests:
Blood test. A blood test involves drawing blood at a health care professional’s office or a commercial facility and sending the sample to a lab for analysis. A blood test can detect high levels of creatinine, a waste product of normal muscle breakdown, which may indicate kidney disease. Other blood tests may detect signs of autoimmune diseases, such as lupus, or other diseases, such as prostate cancer, which can cause hematuria.
Computed tomography (CT) scan. CT scans use a combination of x-rays and computer technology to create images of the urinary tract, especially the kidneys. A health care professional may give the patient a solution to drink and an injection of contrast medium. CT scans require the patient to lie on a table that slides into a tunnel-shaped device that takes the x-rays. An x-ray technician performs the procedure in an outpatient center or a hospital, and a radiologist interprets the images. The patient does not need anesthesia. CT scans can help a doctor diagnose stones in the urinary tract, obstructions, infections, cysts, tumors, and traumatic injuries.
Cystoscopy. Cystoscopy is a procedure that a urologist—a doctor who specializes in urinary problems—performs to see inside the patient’s bladder and urethra using a cystoscope, a tubelike instrument. The health care professional performs cystoscopy in his or her office, in an outpatient center, or in a hospital. The patient may need pain medication. A cystoscopy can detect cancer in a patient’s bladder.
Kidney biopsy. Kidney biopsy is a procedure that involves taking a small piece of tissue from the kidney. A health care professional performs the biopsy in an outpatient center or a hospital. The health care professional will give the patient light sedation and local anesthetic. In some cases, the patient will require general anesthesia. A pathologist—a doctor who specializes in diagnosing diseases—examines the tissue in a lab. The biopsy can help diagnose if the hematuria is due to kidney disease.
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). MRI is a test that takes pictures of the patient’s internal organs and soft tissues without using x-rays. A specially trained technician performs the procedure in an outpatient center or a hospital, and a radiologist interprets the images. The patient does not need anesthesia, although patients with a fear of confined spaces may receive light sedation. An MRI may include the injection of contrast medium. With most MRI machines, the patient will lie on a table that slides into a tunnel-shaped device that may be open-ended or closed at one end. Some machines allow the patient to lie in a more open space. During an MRI, the patient should remain perfectly still while the technician takes the images. During the procedure, the patient will hear loud mechanical knocking and humming noises coming from the machine. An MRI can help diagnose problems in individual internal organs, such as the bladder or kidney.
How is hematuria treated?
Health care professionals treat hematuria by treating its underlying cause. If no serious condition is causing a patient’s hematuria, he or she typically does not need treatment.
Eating, Diet, and Nutrition
Researchers have not found that eating, diet, and nutrition play a role in causing or preventing hematuria.
Points to Remember
Hematuria is the presence of blood in a person’s urine. Gross hematuria is when a person can see the blood in his or her urine, and microscopic hematuria is when a person cannot see the blood in his or her urine, yet a health care professional can see it under a microscope.
The causes of hematuria include vigorous exercise and sexual activity, among others.
More serious causes of hematuria include kidney or bladder cancer; inflammation of the kidney, urethra, bladder, or prostate; and polycystic kidney disease, among other causes.
People who are more likely to develop hematuria may have a family history of kidney disease, have an enlarged prostate, or have bladder or kidney stones, among other reasons.
People with gross hematuria have urine that is pink, red, or brown.
Most people with microscopic hematuria do not have any symptoms.
Taking a medical history may help a health care professional diagnose the cause of hematuria.
Health care professionals diagnose hematuria with a urine test called urinalysis.
If two of three urine samples detect too many red blood cells, a health care professional may order one or more additional tests.

FAQs on Gallstones | Gallstone Treatment in Koramangala
Tumblr media
Gallstone Treatment in Koramangala, Bangalore by Dr. Manas Tripathy
Gallstones are a common digestive disorder found in 15 percent of people ages 50 and about 10% of the population worldwide. The standard treatment is the removal of the gallbladder when severe symptoms exist. Whereas, you do not need any surgery if you do not have any symptoms.
There are misbeliefs around gallstones found on social media or the internet that are not correct and harmful for people blindly following the available information. In this article, we will look at some resolutions for misconceptions and frequently asked questions about gallstones to make the correct decision.
1. What are Gallstones?
Gallstones are gravel-like deposits made of bilirubin, cholesterol, or calcium salts found as a mixture found in your gallbladder. The size of the stones may vary from a rice grain to the size of a golf ball, with different numbers and sizes.
There are two types of gallstones:
Pigment Stones-These contain bilirubin salts and are found rarely. This type is present in patients with biliary tract infections, liver cirrhosis, or any blood disorder.
Cholesterol Stones-It is the most common type that occurs when the liver produces more cholesterol.
2. What are the difficulties caused by Gallstones?
The main symptoms that people experience are pain in the stomach under the rib cage and the back of your shoulder. There can be episodes of nausea and vomiting also. You may have a severe stomach ache that can last for many hours once you have a fatty meal. But, if you experience pain due to longstanding gallbladder inflammation, you are also prone to jaundice and fever.
3. What are my chances of getting Gallstones?
You are more likely to have gallstones if you,
Are you over forty years of age
Are a woman
Are pregnant
Are obese
Have diabetes
Eat a diet high in fats
Lose weight quickly
Have a family history of gallbladder stones?
Take cholesterol-lowering medications
Take medicines for hormone replacement or contraception.
4. Can drinking plenty of water flush out my Gallstones?
Gallstones are not similar to kidney stones. Kidney stones form within the kidneys and can flush out through urine with sufficient water intake. But, gallstones are formed inside the gallbladder under your liver. Accordingly, drinking plenty of water does not remove gallstones but can harm you, and you are required to visit the hospital if you experience extreme pain.
5. Are there any alternative medications to try first?
Presently, there are no alternate medicines that can help you relieve gallstones. You are prone to serious complications like jaundice, cholangitis, cholecystitis, gangrene, pancreatitis, gallbladder cancer, or any other gallbladder-related complications, that may increase by 1-3% by the next decade even after diagnosis. Hence, gallbladder removal surgery is the only practical option.
6. Do Gallstones require treatment?
Some gallstones do not need any treatment. But, if you have gallstones that are more than 3 cm in size and are asymptomatic, or incidentally diagnosed during a checkup, the doctor would suggest eliminating the gallbladder to avoid any further complications.
7. Are there any complications involved in removing the Gallstones while retaining the gallbladder?
Stones in the gallbladder indicate poor health. So, many undergo surgery for gallstone removal. But, there are chances of non-surgical treatments in case of any medical conditions. Few methods include,
Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP)
Shock wave lithotripsy
Oral dissolution therapy
The above treatments are for the extraction of cholesterol stones alone that may recur after several months even with subsiding symptoms compelling you to take regular gallstones treatment for a longer time.
8. How are Gallstones treated?
Gallbladder removal is carried out through cholecystectomy. It is the standard treatment for gallstone removal and is done in two ways.
Open Surgery
In the case of gallbladder inflammation, infection, or scarring from previous surgery then open surgery is the best solution. It is the best option when laparoscopic surgery is not possible. You are likely to stay in hospital for about a week and may resume your daily activities after a month.
Laparoscopic Surgery
This is the most sought after option for gallbladder removal because,
It requires three small incisions, so there is less scarring
Can be treated as an outpatient
Less postoperative discomfort and pain
Less medication
Requires hospitalization for 1-2 days
Speedy recovery
9. What are the harmful effects post gallbladder surgery?
The gallbladder is an indispensable organ. The primary function of the gallbladder is to store bile juices that aid digestion. In most cases, there are not many serious harmful after effects. But, some people might complain of stomach pain, diarrhea, heartburn, bloating, and gas that can be treated with medication after consulting a doctor.
10. Should I consider a second opinion before deciding on surgery?
The symptoms experienced by gallstones are not distinctive and are common to other medical conditions. Taking a second option from a reliable source in such cases is highly beneficial and makes a huge impact to make a knowledgeable choice.

Exploring the Interplay Between Diseases and Liver Transplant
Understanding the Complexities and Implications
Liver transplant surgery is a life-saving procedure that offers hope to patients with end-stage liver disease and certain liver-related conditions. However, the decision to undergo a liver transplant is often influenced by the underlying disease or condition that necessitates the procedure. In this article, we delve into the intricate connection between diseases and liver transplants, exploring the complexities, implications, and considerations involved.
Tumblr media
Liver Diseases Leading to Transplant: Liver transplant is commonly indicated for patients with end-stage liver disease (ESLD), a condition characterized by irreversible liver damage and loss of function. Chronic liver diseases such as cirrhosis, hepatitis B and C, alcoholic liver disease, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), and autoimmune hepatitis are among the primary causes of ESLD. These diseases progress over time, leading to liver failure and ultimately necessitating a transplant to restore liver function and prolong survival.
Hepatobiliary Cancers: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), the most common type of liver cancer, often develops in the setting of chronic liver disease or cirrhosis. In cases where the cancer is confined to the liver and has not spread beyond, liver transplant may be considered as a curative treatment option. However, stringent criteria and careful patient selection are essential to ensure favorable outcomes and prevent cancer recurrence post-transplant.
Metabolic Liver Diseases: Inherited metabolic disorders such as Wilson's disease, hemochromatosis, and alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency can affect liver function and lead to progressive liver damage. For patients with severe and unmanageable symptoms, liver transplant may offer a chance for improved quality of life and long-term survival. However, the presence of underlying metabolic abnormalities may pose challenges during the transplant process and require specialized pre-transplant evaluation and management.
Acute Liver Failure: Acute liver failure (ALF) is a rare but life-threatening condition characterized by rapid onset of liver dysfunction and hepatic encephalopathy. Causes of ALF include viral hepatitis, drug-induced liver injury, autoimmune hepatitis, and acute fatty liver of pregnancy, among others. Liver transplant may be considered for select patients with ALF who fail to respond to medical therapy or develop complications such as hepatic coma. Timely referral and evaluation are crucial in optimizing outcomes for these patients.
Autoimmune Liver Diseases: Autoimmune liver diseases, including autoimmune hepatitis, primary biliary cholangitis (formerly known as primary biliary cirrhosis), and primary sclerosing cholangitis, are characterized by immune-mediated damage to the liver and biliary tract. While medical therapy is the mainstay of treatment for most patients, those with advanced disease and progressive liver failure may require liver transplant as a definitive treatment option. Careful management of post-transplant immunosuppression is essential to prevent disease recurrence and graft rejection.
Challenges and Considerations: Despite the potential benefits, liver transplant poses inherent challenges and considerations, particularly in the context of underlying diseases. Patient selection, pre-transplant evaluation, and post-transplant management require a multidisciplinary approach involving hepatologists, transplant surgeons, oncologists, and other specialists. Additionally, the shortage of donor organs, immunosuppression-related complications, and the risk of disease recurrence post-transplant are important factors to consider when weighing the risks and benefits of liver transplant in patients with underlying diseases.
The interplay between diseases and liver transplant is multifaceted and complex, with diverse implications for patient management and outcomes. While liver disease treatment in Bangalore, offers a lifeline to patients with end-stage liver disease, hepatobiliary cancers, metabolic disorders, acute liver failure, and autoimmune liver diseases, careful consideration of the underlying disease, patient characteristics, and transplant-related factors is essential in optimizing outcomes and ensuring long-term success. Through continued research, innovation, and collaboration, clinicians and researchers strive to advance our understanding of this intricate connection and improve the care and outcomes of patients undergoing liver transplant for various diseases.
Let’s know what are approaches taken to Liver transplant
Deceased Donor Liver Transplantation (DDLT) and Living Donor Liver Transplantation (LDLT) are two approaches to liver transplantation, each with its own distinct characteristics and considerations.
Tumblr media
Donor Source:
Deceased Donor Liver Transplantation: Deceased Donor Liver Transplantation in Bangalore, the liver is procured from a deceased donor who has been declared brain-dead and has consented to organ donation either during their lifetime or by their family after death.
Living Donor Liver Transplantation: In Living Donor Liver Transplantation, the liver is donated by a living donor, typically a family member or close relative of the recipient. The donor undergoes a thorough evaluation process to assess their suitability for donation, including medical, psychological, and ethical considerations.
Timing of Transplantation:
Deceased Donor Liver Transplantation: The timing of Deceased Donor Liver Transplantation depends on the availability of deceased donor organs, which can vary depending on factors such as organ donation rates, waitlist prioritization, and organ allocation policies.
Living Donor Liver Transplantation: Living Donor Liver Transplantation offers the advantage of scheduling the transplant at a time that is convenient for both the recipient and the donor, minimizing the risk of disease progression and optimizing outcomes for both parties.
Graft Size and Compatibility:
Deceased Donor Liver Transplantation: The size and compatibility of the deceased donor liver may not always match the recipient's requirements, leading to potential mismatches in size or blood type. This can sometimes result in a longer wait time on the transplant waitlist or the need for additional surgical techniques to adapt the donor liver to the recipient's anatomy.
Living Donor Liver Transplantation: Living Donor Liver Transplantation allows for a more tailored approach to graft selection, as the donor liver can be selected based on size, blood type compatibility, and other factors specific to the recipient's needs. This often results in a better match and reduces the risk of graft rejection or complications post-transplant.
Waiting Time and Urgency:
Deceased Donor Liver Transplantation: Due to the limited availability of deceased donor organs, patients awaiting Deceased Donor Liver Transplantation may experience longer wait times on the transplant waitlist, particularly for those with less severe illness or lower priority status.
Living Donor Liver Transplantation: Living Donor Liver Transplantation offers the advantage of shorter waiting times, as the transplant can be scheduled based on the recipient's clinical status and urgency of need. This can be particularly beneficial for patients with rapidly progressive liver disease or acute liver failure who may not have the luxury of waiting for a deceased donor organ.
Risk to Donor:
Deceased Donor Liver Transplantation: There is no risk to the donor in Deceased Donor Liver Transplantation, as the liver is procured from a deceased donor who has already passed away.
Living Donor Liver Transplantation: Living Donor Liver Transplantation carries inherent risks to the living donor, including potential complications related to the surgical procedure, anesthesia, and recovery process. However, advances in surgical techniques and donor selection criteria have significantly reduced the risk of complications for living donors in recent years.
while both Deceased Donor Liver Transplantation and Living Donor Liver Transplantation in Bangalore,  offer life-saving options for patients with end-stage liver disease, each approach has its own unique characteristics, considerations, and advantages. The choice between Deceased Donor Liver Transplantation and Living Donor Liver Transplantation depends on various factors, including the recipient's clinical status, urgency of need, compatibility, and availability of suitable donor organs. Ultimately, the goal of liver transplantation is to provide the best possible outcome for the recipient while ensuring the safety and well-being of the donor.
